• "file not found" error while commiting

  I have a working copy, checked out from SVN repository. When i'm trying to commit, i get following error: svn: File not found: revision 57, path '/trunk/path/to/my/file/logo-mini.jpg' I've found this file in the repo and noticed, that it has only one revision - 58. I don't understand, why SVN complains about this file, when it is presented and why it points to revision 57 instead of 58 ? I've also renamed the grand-grand-grand-parent folder of this file. Possible, this is an issue ... Update Detailed error description, that i've got from Cornerstone app (Mac OS X): Description : Could not find the specified file. Even this does't helps. Still getting the same error. I've got no results.

• Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash while opening Bamboo Preferences, often after resuming computer from sleep

  One of the ExpressKeys on my Wacom Bamboo Capture graphics tablet is mapped to Bamboo Preferences, so that I can quickly access the tablet settings and view the battery level (I have the Wireless Accessory Kit installed). However, when I connect the tablet to the computer, in wired or wireless mode, and attempt to open Bamboo Preferences, the Wacom consumer tablet driver service may crash, most often when I try to do so after resuming the computer from sleep. There is usually no direct indication of the crash (although I once did get Tablet Service for consumer driver stopped working and was closed), only that the cursor shows that the system is busy for a split second. When this happens, the pen no longer tracks on the screen when in proximity of the tablet (even though it is detected by the tablet itself); however, touch continues to function correctly. To recover from this condition, I need to restart the tablet driver services. I got tired of having to go through Task Manager to restart the service every time this happens, so I ended up writing the following command script, with a shortcut on the desktop for running it with elevated privileges: net stop TabletServicePen net start TabletServicePen net stop TouchServicePen net start TouchServicePen Is there something I can do to prevent these crashes from happening in the first place, or do I have have to deal with this issue until the driver is updated? • Replacing DropBox with: Amazon S3 + SSL + GPG/TrueCrypt + Mounting on OSX ??

  So, right now we're using DropBox to share various data files around between approximately 10 Mac OS X systems. However, we already have an S3 account and everyone on the lowest DropBox plan of $10/mo seems too expensive. We'd like to avoid any kind of local storage (share a disk on a desktop or something) since we're a geographically distributed team). So, I am contemplating something that would allow us to replace DropBox with our own home-grown solution. We are all fairly technical people and/or smart enough to follow some steps, so if it's not as "user friendly" as DropBox we're all comfortable with that. There are plenty of docs out there that have bits and pieces of what I want but some of the tools don't seem to fit the requirements: Transport security via SSL to the bucket Encryption of bucket contents Bi-directional syncing Most of the scripts I can find on the internet use "duplicity" which appears to fail #1 (it doesn't look like duplicity supports SSL to S3 - the docs don't state but the protocol looks plain old http http://www.nongnu.org/duplicity/duplicity.1.html#sect6 ) Many scripts use gpg to encrypt files. This seems like it could work, however I have to make sure that each OSX client is able to use the same key to encrypt and decrypt files (key management is left to me to manage). FTP and other client-based apps don't seem to support this at all. Finally, most of the scripts use one-way replication, e.g. using Amazon S3 as a simple backup store. As we'd be using Amazon S3 as the "repository" they fail this one. Whew. So, I'd love a single tool that does this but after an exhaustive search I don't think one exists. In my mind, the magical tool would be some combination of TrueCrypt and rsync. I'd be happy just knowing which tools out there can fulfill my 3 requirements, after that I can stitch together the rest. Any thoughts? THANKS!

  Hello ! Every one. I am having a query regarding WiFi network. I am having PC & LapTop. Now, Let me explain the situation. I requested My WiFi providers that I want connection in my PC. So that - WiFi provider set up an Antenna on my building Terrace - They joined a cable to pc & that Antenna. ( I think using RJ45 connector ) - The reason behind this - my pc is not having inbuilt wifi functionality. Now - almost laptops have inbuilt functionality. Now - On terrace there is wifi with superb speed. But on my flat - wifi comes with low speed. so, when ever I use internet on my pc - it has great speed - but my laptop works with low speed. The reason behind this - PC is catching wifi from terrace & laptop is catching the wifi from it's own place. Now, My question is something like this. Can we place an antenna or something like that & connect it to laptop for better wifi speed? • Can't connect to LAN when connected to D-Link DIR-615

  I'm have a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N 300 Router. I didn't use the CD it comes with to set up the network. Instead I configured it manually through the router's settings that are accessed via a web browser. The main changes I made are: Secured the router so that a password is required before clients can use the wireless internet. Broadcasting 802.11N only (not B or G). I can connect to the router just fine and I'm able to access the internet. The only problem is that I don't see any of the other computers in my LAN. When I try connecting to another Wi-Fi router that I have (which is connected to the same network), I can see all of the computer's on my LAN just fine. Therefore, I'm guessing that the reason I can't connect to the LAN is not a problem with my computer and is a problem with the router instead. I'm on a MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.6. I tried contacting D-Link technical support, but they only try to help you if you have problems connecting to the internet. They aren't really concerned with problems that have to do with the accessing PC's on the same network.

• Certain banking pages not loading

  For some unknown reason, I am suddenly unable to access my accounts at several banking and credit sites. I have been a registered user at each site for several years and know I am using the correct user ID and password. Yet, after entering the data, answering security questions, and clicking the submit button, I land on a page with an error message saying their is a technical problem preventing me from accessing my account. On one site, I end up at the sign in page repeatedly. I am never told that my ID/password are incorrect. I believe may be firewall related. Windows firewall was damaged after a recent malware attack. I am now using a third party firewall (Fort Knox). I am not seeing a pop-up indicating sites are blocked or asking me to indicate yes or no. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I get the same result regardless of the browser. I switched to Maxthon last night and am getting the same result. This is not happening at other sites. And I am able to access some banking sites normally. This is frustrating because I need to make payments and have gone paperless. Any feedback will be appreciated. ---- Joe ----

• SAN performance issues storing SQL Server tempdb on a SAN that's being backed up

  I'm afraid I don't know much about SAN's so please forgive my lack of detail or technical terms. As a developer I've just completed and put on an existing production system a new application but it would appear to have tipped the scales regarding the performance of the backups being taken from the SAN. As I understand it there's a mirror of the SAN being taken usually constantly at the block-level. However, there seem to be so many new writes to the disk that the SAN mirroring/backup process can no longer keep up. I believe I've narrowed this down to SQL Servers tempdb which exists on a drive that contributes the largest portion of the problem! In fact I think tempdb has be contributing the largest portion of the issues all along regardless of my application! My question therefore is whether the tempdb should ever be mirrored or backed on the SAN and whether anyone else has gone through this sort of pain already? I'm wondering whether it's a best practise to make sure that tempdb is never mirrored on a SAN simply because any writes to it don't need to be saved. This also raises a slightly connected question - is it better to rely on SQL Servers built-in database backups tools (DB in full-recovery mode with full/differential and transaction log backups) or, as is the case with our application, SQL server is in simple recovery mode and never backed up since the SAN is mirrored and backed up? • Has anyone used the sharedband connection bonding product?

  See http://www.sharedband.com/ for details on the product. Obviously Sharedband aren't too keen on giving away their technical secrets, but I would guess that it bonds the connections at the IP layer i.e. their routers send the IP packets to the SharedBand routers over all available lines and the ShareBand routers handle all the virtual circuitry and provide the NATing to whatever IP address(es) they've assigned you. It looks a clever idea, and a good way to provide some resilience over ADSL links. You can even use ADSL links from different ISPs and SharedBand will still bond them for you. But, I find myself wondering how well it really works, and whether it's worth it. The Draytek routers can already load balance (though not bond) up to four ADSL lines, so the SharedBand product really only offers an advantage if you're hosting servers i.e. you can have one IP address to accept incoming connections through all your (working) ADSL lines. But should you really try and host servers using ADSL lines, especially since ADSL upload performance isn't stellar? Wouldn't it be better to use a hosted server, or maybe pay up for a leased line with a SLA? So I'm asking if anyone is using SharedBand, and if so what do you think of it? JR

  Hello SIP was not built with NAT routers in mind, and I'd like to get to the bottom of this issue to check what needs to be done on all devices so it works with NAT routers, and understand in what context it just can't be used and I should check more NAT-friendly alternatives like IAX. A picture being worth a thousand words, here's the layout I need to use: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4077/sipandnatrouters.jpg The PBX server is located in the private LAN behind a NAT router connected to the Internet (I know it'd be easier if it were located in the public network, but this router doesn't support DMZ's so the server has to be in the private network) A couple of (soft|hard)phones are located on the same LAN and connected to the PBX server, along with a PSTN gateway (Linksys 3102 or a Digium PCI card) Remote users using (soft|hard)phones are located somewhere on the Net with dynamic IP's and are also located behind NAT routers I may or may not have control over the local NAT router where the PBX server is located, but I have no control over the remote NAT routers, either because the users don't have the computer knowledge to map ports or because the routers are off-limit (eg. web cafés, hotel LAN's, etc.) Is it possible to configure the PBX server, the (soft|hard)phones, and the PSTN gateway so that the all conversations work fine, no matter the endpoints (POTS caller/local phone, POTS caller/remote phone, local phones, remote phone/local phone)? In which cases may I expect problems, and are there solutions? FWIW, I'm leaning toward using Freeswitch, but I could end up using Asterisk if there are technical advantages to it in this context. • Maximum RAM on Biostar P4M8PM7 Socket775 mATX board

  I have a server with a Biostar P4M8PM7 ("Pro-M7") board based on a VIA chipset. It's a strange board to put in a server because it seems like more of a desktop board to me, but alas! It takes DDR2-667 (PC5300) RAM. What I can't figure out is the maximum amount I can put in it, as I cannot find the manual anywhere online. I've found a few marketing broadsheets from online retailers that say, "up to 2 GB of RAM!" but I am not sure whether to believe them. They also do not seem to be quite for the same board, as they indicate DDR2 400/533 RAM, for example: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P4M8P-M7. The manufacturer's web site says the same thing, but does not elaborate. It's a 64-bit CPU and board; is there a technical reason why the board would not be able to address more than 2 GB? Can someone tell me what sort of that reason that would be? I bought this server from someone really hoping I could put 8 to 16 in it, and wanted to do some research before I gave up. On a related note, it's not indicated anywhere whether it can take ECC RAM; the existing chips are not ECC, but most memory sold in the range I'm looking for (e.g. DIMMs with enough chip density to do 8 GB) seems to be server-class and for that reason ECC. • If spaces in filenames are possible, why do some of us still avoid using them?

  Somebody I know expressed irritation today regarding those of us who tend not to use spaces in our filenames, e.g. NamingThingsLikeThis.txt -- despite most modern operating systems supporting spaces in filenames. Non-technical people must look at filenames created by geeks and wonder where we learned English. So, what are the reasons that spaces in filenames are avoided or discouraged? The most obvious reason I could think of, and why I typically avoid it, are the extra quotes required on the command line when dealing with such files. Are there any other significant reasons, other than the practice being a vestigial preference? UPDATE: Thanks for all your answers! I'm surprised how popular this was. So, here's a summary: Six Reasons Why Geeks Prefer Filenames Without Spaces In Them It's irritating to put quotes around them when referenced on the command line (or elsewhere.) Some older operating systems didn't used to support them and us old dogs are used to that. Some tools still don't support spaces in filenames at all or very well. (But they should.) It's irritating to escape spaces when used where spaces must be escaped, such as URLs. Certain unenlightened services (e.g. file hosting, webmail) remove or replace spaces anyway! Names without spaces can be shorter, which is sometimes desirable as paths are limited.

• Cannot access certain URL on my wireless

  Problem: On my wireless network at home, there is one URL that I just cannot access with my browser: http://research.microsoft.com/ I have no problems with the Internet connection otherwise. But on that address I just get The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. from Firefox. I am using a DSL modem (Westell) and Linksys wireless router (using DHCP). When I use my neighbor's wireless connection I can access the microsoft site without a problem. Additional technical details: But with my connection, here is what I get from nslookup. Our data (It comes from a certain govt. agency so the schema and lack of indexing is atrocious). So yes, I know, AWS or EC2 is not a silver bullet in the face of spending time to maybe rework your queries/code entirely 'out of the box'. With that said I would appreciate any input on the following questions: We produce on CentOS and lab on Ubuntu LTS which I prefer especially with their growing cloud / AWS integration. If we are mysql centric, and our biggest problem is these big cartesian products that produce slow queries, should we roll out what we know after more optimization with respect to Ubuntu/mySQL with the added Amazon horsepower? Or is there some merit to the NoSQL and other technologies they offer? What are the key metrics I need to gather from apache and mysql other than like: Disk I/O operations, Data up/down avgs and trends and special high usage periods/scenarios? I've reviewed AWS/EC2 fine print, but want 2nd opinions. What other services aside from the basic web/database have proven valuable to you? I know nothing of Hadoop or many other technologies they offer, echoing my prev. question, do you sometimes find it worth it (Initially having it be a gamble aside from basic homework) to dive/break into a whole new environment and try to/or end up finding a way of more efficiently producing your data/site product? Anything I should watch out for in projecting costs, or any other general advice when working with AWS folks from anyone else where your company is very niche and very very technical (Scientifically - or anybody for that matter)? • Windows Remote Desktop (RDP/MSTSC) fails with Error Code: 5

  I have 2 Windows XP boxen: A (running XP SP3) and B (running XP SP2). I'm using Remote Desktop to connect from A to B. When I connect, I get the login screen (which is slow to respond to keyboard/mouse input), and after logging in, I get the following: Fatal Error (Error Code: 5) Your Remote Desktop session is about to end. This computer might be low on virtual memory. Close your other programs, and then try connecting to the remote computer again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. I've seen one way to (sometimes) get in by opening a second RDP session to the same box [1], and if I wait long enough sometimes it will go ahead and log in anyway. Is there something broken/missing on the PC I'm trying to remote in to? Edited in reply to djangofan: There's nobody listed under "Lock pages in memory". When the double login trick works, a glance at Task Manager shows plenty of free memory, 800MB available out of 1.5 GB. (Performance tab, Physical memory) For what it's worth, this happens consistently after a reboot. What sort of exact info would be useful? • Max. Bandwidth Cannot be Reached

  I have a question regarding the bandwidth usage. I don't think it's a very technical question but I really want to know the reason behind the problem. I'm having my education in one of my university's campuses. There is a 200mbps bandwidth availability for approx. 2100 students. Our main campus has 25,000 students and 2gbps bandwidth and there is no problem with the internet connection speed in main campus. However, in my campus, we are having difficulties with the internet connection speed. I went to IT department of my university and they've showed me some graphics about the bandwidth usage. The usage of the bandwidth has never reached 200mbps and it generally is around 130-140mbps. According to this information, maximum bandwidth is never made by the users but the browsing speed is not very convincing. What can be the problem? Maybe this is a silly question but I really want to know the reason. They told me that they've reached 180mbps before.

• Cannot connect on TFS 2012 server through SSL with invalid certificate

  I saw the problem on some forums and even here, but not as specific as mine. So here's the thing, So I've configured a TFS 2012 server, on one of my personnel server at home, and now, I'm trying to make it available through the internet, with the help of apache2 on a different UNIX based, physical server. The thing is working perfectly, I don't have any problem accessing the address https://tfs.something.com/tfs through my browser. The address can be pinged and I do have access to the TFS control panel through it. How does it work? Well, with apache2 you can set a virtual host and set up the ProxyPass and ProxyPassReserver setting, so the traffic can externally comes from a secure SSL connection, through a specified domain or sub-domain, but it can be locally redirect on a clear http session on a different port. This is my current setup. As I already said, I can access the web interface, but when I'm trying to connect with Visual Studio 2012, it can't be done. Here's the error I receive: http://i.imgur.com/TLQIn.png The technical information tells me: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. My SSL certificate is invalid and was automatically generated on my UNIX server. Even if I try to add it in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities either on my TFS server or on my local workstation, it doesn't work. I still receive the same error. Is there's a way to completely ignore certificate validation? If not, what's have I done? I mean, I've added the certificate in the trusted root certificates, it should works as mentioned on some forums... If you need more information, please ask me, I'll be pleased to provide you more. • Apache times out after 2 minutes, when Apache TimeOut is 1200

  We have a set up where the browser makes an http request to Box A which in turn makes an http request to Box B. What we're encountering is that Box A waits for Box B to respond for two minutes then the users sees: The page cannot be displayed Explanation: There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed. Try the following: * Refresh page: Search for the page again by clicking the Refresh button. The timeout may have occurred due to Internet congestion. * Check spelling: Check that you typed the Web page address correctly. The address may have been mistyped. * Access from a link: If there is a link to the page you are looking for, try accessing the page from that link. Technical Information (for support personnel) * Error Code: 404 Not Found. The requested item could not be located. (12028) Watching the logs on Box B we see that it takes 5 minutes to do the work requested. The problem is that the apache time outs on both boxes are set 1200 (20m), not 120 (2m). Any ideas where to look?

• How can I remotely tell what brand/model internal SCSI card is installed in a machine?

  I am doing some consulting work for a previous employer upgrading and migrating old servers to new hardware. There is an existing file server (HP ProLiant DL380) that has an tape backup drive connected; it is using a SCSI interface and I'm pretty sure it's using an internal SCSI card. They are upgrading to a new server hardware (HP ProLiant DL160 G6). The old server is 2U, the new one 1U and we would want to move the tape drive to the new server, too. I'm trying to figure out if the SCSI card in the old server would be able to be installed in the new one or if we'll need to source a new card; mostly I don't know for sure the height of the card and if it's low-profile enough that it would fit in the new server. There is not much of a technical resource onsite and the old server is in-use anyway so I would like to avoid making a trip in myself or trying to have someone onsite pop open the case and tell me what card is there. It's running Windows Server 2003 - is there a way to tell from say Device Manager what make and model the SCSI card might be? Or any other system diagnostic program or something that would give me hardware info like that? Thanks for any info!

• Setup of high-end web server and DB server cluster on Amazon EC2: Is this how it's done?

  Amazon is so technical, I want to confirm that my understanding is correct. We have a large 500 GB database. (OrientDB.) We will have it mirrored to one another in the same Availability Zone. We believe the database size will grow rapidly. The plan is: Get 4 large instances that are compatible types with Placement Groups (as well as ideally, Enhanced Networking) (2 for web, 2 for DB.) We use an EBS-backed instances to store our operating system. Discussion here: http://alestic.com/2012/01/ec2-ebs-boot-recommended We can set up ephemeral SSD instance storage as swap space. (But it is lost after even a reboot. I hear its hard to add ephemeral storage if booting from EBS, but possible.) For offsite backup, we will take periodic snapshots and store them on S3. Obviously we need to ensure the database is in a safe state when that snapshot happens to avoid corruption. (Any hints here, aside from shutting down the DB?) If the database gets too big, we need to create a EBS volume that's larger. We can use RAID to break the 1 TB limit: http://alestic.com/2009/06/ec2-ebs-raid Static assets on web servers will be stored on S3. Is that correct? Or am I missing something?
