  • When does ref($variable) return 'IO'?

    - by Zaid
    Here's the relevant excerpt from the documentation of the ref function: The value returned depends on the type of thing the reference is a reference to. Builtin types include: SCALAR ARRAY HASH CODE REF GLOB LVALUE FORMAT IO VSTRING Regexp Based on this, I imagined that calling ref on a filehandle would return 'IO'. Surprisingly, it doesn't: use strict; use warnings; open my $fileHandle, '<', 'aValidFile'; close $fileHandle; print ref $fileHandle; # prints 'GLOB', not 'IO' perlref tries to explain why: It isn't possible to create a true reference to an IO handle (filehandle or dirhandle) using the backslash operator. The most you can get is a reference to a typeglob, which is actually a complete symbol table entry [...] However, you can still use type globs and globrefs as though they were IO handles. In what circumstances would ref return 'IO' then?

  • Where is the appropriate place to define inflector rules in CakePHP 1.3?

    - by Daniel Wright
    In CakePHP 1.2, custom inflector rules could be defined in a file app/config/inflections.php. This file was removed in CakePHP 1.3. Instead, the documentation prescribes using the Inflector::rules function to load custom inflections. There's adequate documentation of how to define the custom inflections themselves, but the documentation gives no context—where to use Inflector::rules. Should any custom inflections be defined in the bootstrap.php script? At the top of applicable corresponding controllers? Somewhere else? See also: Configuration: Inflections in the documentation Inflector::rules definition in the API documentation

  • Are returned locals automatically xvalues

    - by mark
    Following on from a comment I made on this: passing std::vector to constructor and move semantics Is the std::move necessary in the following code, to ensure that the returned value is a xvalue? std::vector<string> buildVector() { std::vector<string> local; // .... build a vector return std::move(local); } It is my understanding that this is required. I have often seen this used when returning a std::unique_ptr from a function, however GManNickG made the following comment: It is my understanding that in a return statement all local variables are automatically xvalues (expiring values) and will be moved, but I'm unsure if that only applies to the returned object itself. So OP should go ahead and put that in there until I'm more confident it shouldn't have to be. :) Can anyone clarify if the std::move is necessary? Is the behaviour compiler dependent?

  • C++: concatenate ints in an array?

    - by Nate
    As part of a homework assignment I need to concatenate certain values in an array in C++. So, for example if I have: int v[] = {0,1,2,3,4} I may need at some point to concatenate v[1] - v[4] so that I get an int with the value 1234. I got it working using stringstream, by appending the values onto the stringstream and then converting back to an integer. However, throughout the program there will eventually be about 3 million different permutations of v[] passed to my toInt() function, and the stringstream seems rather expensive (at least when dealing with that many values). it's working, but very slow and I'm trying to do whatever I can to optimize it. Is there a more optimal way to concatenate ints in an array in C++? I've done some searching and nearly everywhere seems to just suggest using stringstream (which works, but seems to be slowing my program down a lot). EDIT: Just clarifying, I do need the result to be an int.

  • In GWT, how to known from a SelectionEvent in a Tree if the Shift button is pressed

    - by Vinze
    Hi, I try in GWT to create a Tree with multiple selection for the nodes and ran into a problem similar to this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1411752/shift-key-in-gwt. When a selectionEvent is raised from the Tree, I would like to know if the Shift key is pressed or not. SelectionHandler<TreeItem> getSelectionHandler() { return new SelectionHandler<TreeItem>(){ @Override public void onSelection(SelectionEvent<TreeItem> event) { // is shift key pressed ? } }; } The solution in the question above cannot apply in this case as the SelectionHandler class does not inherit from DOMEvent and then does not have a getNativeEvent() function. I tried a dirty solution by adding keyDownEventHandler and keyUpEventHandler to the Tree with a boolean flag but the handlers are only called when the focus is on the tree so this doesn't work. Is there a simple solution (or just a solution even if it's not simple) ? Thanks.

  • OpenAL device, buffer and context relationship

    - by Markus
    I'm trying to create an object oriented model to wrap OpenAL and have a little problem understanding the devices, buffers and contexts. From what I can see in the Programmer's Guide, there are multiple devices, each of which can have multiple contexts as well as multiple buffers. Each context has a listener, and the alListener*() functions all operate on the listener of the active context. (Meaning that I have to make another context active first if I wanted to change it's listener, if I got that right.) So far, so good. What irritates me though is that I need to pass a device to the alcCreateContext() function, but none to alGenBuffers(). How does this work then? When I open multiple devices, on which device are the buffers created? Are the buffers shared between all devices? What happens to the buffers if I close all open devices? (Or is there something I missed?)

  • While Loop Taking Alot of CPU Usage

    - by CuriousUser
    I am creating a keystroke logger for my personal interest, as well wanting to know how to capture and use them as functions (like key shortcuts). I got the code to learn how keylogger and GetAsyncKeyState() work: http://www.rohitab.com/discuss/index.php?showtopic=9931 I got it to run under Code::Blocks, but the weirdest things is that when I check my task manager, my CPU Usage rises to 100%. When I close the program, it goes back down, and goes back up to 100 when I turn it back on. I presume it's because of the infinite while loop, constantly checking for inputs, but I wanna know if there's anyway to decrease the CPU usage, without losing function. P.S How would I make a key shortcut? Like press (Ctrl + E) to make the program exit?

  • Using Jquery $getJSON How do I dynamically create data for the [data] parameter after Url param?

    - by Breadtruck
    I have no problems getting the Json to work and parse the json return. I was just wondering how I could build a dynamic "whatever data is" and stick it into [data] to pass my parameters from there and not manually append them to the url. From jquery website example: $.getJSON("test.js", { name: "John", time: "2pm" }, function(json){ alert("JSON Data: " + json.users[3].name); }); I thought I could build a string ( which doesn't make sense anyway ) and drop it inside the { }, but I obviously don't understand that part. name: isn't a string and you can't put a variable in that part, so how would I dynamically put items into whatever [data] is.

  • P/Invoke or C++/CLI for wrapping a C library

    - by Ian G
    Have a moderate size (40-odd function) C API that needs to be called from a C# project. The functions logically break up to form a few classes that will be API presented to the rest of the project. Are there any objective reasons to prefer P/Invoke or C++/CLI for the interoperability underneath that API, in terms of robustness, maintainability, deployment, ...? The issues I could think of that might be, but aren't problematic are: C++/CLI will require an separate assembly, the P/Invoke classes can be in the main assembly. (We've already got multiple assemblies and there'll be the C dlls anyway so not a major issue). Performance doesn't seem differ noticeable between the two methods. Issues that I'm not sure about are: My feeling is C++/CLI will be easier to debug if there's inter-op problem, is this true? Language familiarity enough people know C# and C++ but knowledge of details of C++/CLI are rarer here. Anything else?

  • Using jep.invoke() method

    - by hofsoc
    Hi, I need to call a function from a python script and pass in parameters into it. I have a test python script which I can call and run from java using Jepp - this then adds the person. Eg Test.py import Finding from Finding import * f = Finding() f.addFinding("John", "Doe", 27) Within my Finding class I have addFinding(firstname, lastName, age) However, I wish to be able to do this from within java. Should I be using the jep.invoke() method. Does anyone have a hello world example of such a thing being done or forward me to some good examples? Does anyone have any suggestions please? Thanks in advance

  • Choosing the non-empty Monoid

    - by Nikita Volkov
    I need a function which will choose a non-empty monoid. For a list this will mean the following behaviour: > [1] `mor` [] [1] > [1] `mor` [2] [1] > [] `mor` [2] [2] Now, I've actually implemented it but am wondering wether there exists some standard alternative, because it seems to be a kind of a common case. Unfortunately Hoogle doesn't help. Here's my implementation: mor :: (Eq a, Monoid a) => a -> a -> a mor a b = if a /= mempty then a else b

  • Source Lookup Path is correct but debugger can't find file (Eclipse EE IDE)?

    - by Greg McNulty
    When debugging stepping over each line does work. Stepping into a function located in another file debugger displays: Source not found. Also displays option for Edit Source Lookup Path... but the correct package is listed there. (Also tried pointing with the directory path.) No other breakpoints set, as is a common solution. • Using ModalAlert from cookbook - app does not load

    - by user127091
    I'm using iphone cookbook code to prompt a user for text in a UIAlertView. The cookbook code is available at http://github.com/erica/iphone-3.0-cookbook-/tree/master/C10-Alerts/03-Soliciting%20Text/ In my AppDelegate, applicationDidFinishLaunching(), I invoke as below NSString *str = [ModalAlert ask:@"what is your name?" withTextPrompt:@"ATTUID"]; But my app does not finish loading at all. I get a black screen indefinitely. There are no messages in the console. I tried creating just a UIAlertView with UITextField in the above function and it displays properly. (commenting out her code) Commenting out "CFRunLoopRun()" also loads the app. I'm probably doing something stupid but can't seem to figure it out.

  • PG::Error: ERROR: operator does not exist: integer ~~ unknown

    - by rsvmrk
    I'm making a search-function in a Rails project with Postgres as db. Here's my code def self.search(search) if search find(:all, :conditions => ["LOWER(name) LIKE LOWER(?) OR LOWER(city) LIKE LOWER(?) OR LOWER(address) LIKE LOWER(?) OR (venue_type) LIKE (?)", "%#{search}%", "%#{search}%", "%#{search}%", "%#{search}%"]) else find(:all) end end But my problem is that "venue_type" is an integer. I've made a case switch for venue_type def venue_type_check case self.venue_type when 1 "Pub" when 2 "Nattklubb" end end Now to my question: How can I find something in my query when venue_type is an int?

  • Jquery CPU usage

    - by nharry
    I am using Jquery to make an image scroll across my page horizontally. The only problem is that it uses a serious amount of cpu usage. Up to 100% on a single core laptop in firefox. What could cause this??? Jquery <script> jQuery(document).ready(function() { $(".speech").animate({backgroundPosition: "-6000px 0px"}, 400000, null); }); </script> CSS .speech { /*position:fixed;*/ top:0; left:0px; height:400px; width:100%; z-index:-1; background:url(/images/speech.png) -300px -500px repeat-x; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; position: fixed; } HTML <div class="speech"></div>

    Hi I am trying to store the contents of two dimensional array into a temporary array.... How is it possible... I don't want looping over here, as it would add an extra overhead.. Any pointer notation would be good. struct bucket { int nStrings; char strings[MAXSTRINGS][MAXWORDLENGTH]; }; void func() { char **tArray; int tLenArray = 0; for(i=0; i<TOTBUCKETS-1; i++) { if(buck[i].nStrings != 0) { tArray = buck[i].strings; tLenArray = buck[i].nStrings; } } } The error here i am getting is:- [others@centos htdocs]$ gcc lexorder.c lexorder.c: In function âlexSortingâ: lexorder.c:40: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type Please let me know if this needs some more explanaition...

  • Can't return a String value and append it...why?

    - by squeezemylime
    I am writing an app and am having problems returning a simple string value, and I'm not sure why. The function I am using (within a file called APIManager.m) is: - (NSString*) returnVenueUrl { NSString *venueUrl = [devEnvironment stringByAppendingString:@"venue/id/"]; return venueUrl; } I can return this properly by doing this in another .m file: APIManager *apiManager = [APIManager apiManager]; NSLog(@"view venue URL is here: %@", [apiManager returnVenueUrl]); But when I go to append a variable cast as a String onto it, I get nothing.. venueURL = [apiManager returnVenueUrl]; venueURL = [venueURL stringByAppendingString:venueId]; NSLog(@"the Full Venue URL is: %", venueURL); If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!

  • Invoking browser on steaming media URLs

    - by Maven
    I have a dirt simple little function that launches the blackberry browser on a streaming media file in order to launch the built in media player. Everything works fine but there is this annoying dialog every time from the browser asking me if I want to save or open the file. My answer is always "open" the file so is there a way I can make it default and not bring up the dialog each time? The code I'm using to launch the browser // Get the default sessionBrowserSession browserSession = Browser.getDefaultSession(); // now launch the URL browserSession.displayPage(url); This is on blackberry OS 5.0 Thanks!

  • Create multiple TCP Connections in C# then wait for data

    - by Ryan French
    Hi Everyone, I am currently creating a Windows Service that will create TCP connections to multiple machines (same socket on all machines) and then listen for 'events' from those machines. I am attempting to write the code to create a connection and then spawn a thread that listens to the connection waiting for packets from the machine, then decode the packets that come through, and call a function depending on the payload of the packet. The problem is I'm not entirely sure how to do that in C#. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or links that might help me do this? Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Sorting a vector of (double precision) reals and obtain their order

    - by Philipp
    Hello everyone, in C++ would like to sort a lengthy (2^20) vector of reals, obviously sort() does the trick. Having used R before I was used to the nice order() function which yields the permutation that leads to the sorted vector. Probably someone has done this in C++, maybe it's just my weak google-Fu that prevents me from finding it. And yeah, obivously my C++ newbness could stop me from spotting something straightforward. Example: x = {24, 55, 22, 1} then the permutation perm = {3, 2, 0, 1} maps the original x to the sorted x in ascending order. I can probably implement some bubble sort which does not only sort x but performs the same transpositions on the vector {0,1,2,...} and outputs both, but I believe someone must have thought about it and especially have done it efficiently. Thank you very much, Philipp
