    Is there a way to order mysql results by the first letter and ignore numbers? For example, I have a list of addresses: 123 Main Street 456 Second Street 234 Third Street and I want to order by the street name and ignore the street number. Is there an easy way to do this?

  • SQL Select - adding field to Select is changing the results

    I'm stumped by this SQL problem that I suspect will be easy pickings for someone out there. I have a table that contains rows representing several daily lists of ranked items. The relevent fields are as follows: ID, ListID, ItemID, ItemName, ItemRank, Date. I have a query that returns the items that were on a list yesterday but not today (Items Off List) as follows: Select ItemID, ListID, ItemName, convert(varchar(10),MAX(date),101) as date, COUNT(ItemName) as days_on_list From Table Group By ItemID, ListID, ItemName Having Max(date) = DATEADD("d",-1,convert(varchar(10),getdate(),101)) and ListID = 1 Order By ListID, ItemName, COUNT(ItemName) Basically I'm looking for records where the max date is yesterday. It works fine and shows the number of days each item was previously on the list (although not necessarily consecutively, but that's fine for now). The problem is when I try to add ranking to see what yesterday's rank was. I tried the following: Select ItemID, ListID, ItemName, ranking, convert(varchar(10),MAX(date),101) as date, COUNT(ItemName) as days_on_list From Table Group By ItemID, ListID, ItemName, ranking Having Max(date) = DATEADD("d",-1,convert(varchar(10),getdate(),101)) and ListID = 1 Order By ListID, ItemName, ranking, COUNT(ItemName) This returns a great deal more records than the previous query so something isn't right with it. I want the same number of records, but with the ranking included. I can get the rank by doing a self-join with a subquery and getting records where the ItemID occurs yesterday but not today - but then I don't know how to get the Count any more. Then I was able to do the aggregate function and grouping correctly. I would NOT be surprised if this is more convoluted than necessary but I understand it and can modify it as needed and performance doesn't seem to be an issue. Thanks everyone for the assist.

    Working on some .aspx.cs code and decided I would forget how to turn a textbox value into a useable integer or decimal. Be warned I'm pretty new to .asp. Wish I could say the same for c sharp. So the value going into my textbox (strawberryp_textbox) is "1" which I presume I can access with the .text property. Which I then parse into a int. The Error reads Format Exception was unhandled by user code.   • script.aculo.us autocomplete stuck behind input elements

    I've got several script.aculo.us Ajax.Autocomplete controls on a page and when the drop down div is rendered it's always stuck behind the other text boxes on the page, no matter what I do with zIndex and positioning. The problem occurs in IE and FF. Anyone else run into this? Am I missing something, or is this just life with this control?

    I have this code that has one button that let's me choose an entry from contacts, and passes that choesn contact to onActivityResult function. My question is how do I select data of that single contact when all that is passed is an Intent in data variable. That data variable, if converted to string shows something like "dat: content://contacts/people/4" so I see that selected contact is somehow passed, but what now? How to get that data? And also all I found by googling was examples with deprecated class People, so I don't know how too use new classes. Please help.     Hi, I'm working on a online quiz client where we use a dedicated custom-made linux distro which contains only the quiz client software along with text editors and other utility software. When the user has started the quiz, I want to prevent him/her from minimizing the window/closing it/switching to the desktop or other windows. The quizzes can be attempted using only the mouse, so I need the keyboard to be completed disabled for the period of the quiz. How could I do this, using Qt or Mono?     I am trying to pass login credentials to a PHP script that I have in my iPhone app. When I pull a password with special characters the password is missing certain characters especially the percent sign. I am trying to encode the text but even before I send it, the percent sign is missing. //password_field is a UITextField holding the password: !@#$%^&*() NSString *tmpPass = [password_field.text stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSLog(p_field.text); NSLog(tmpPass); This is what appears in the console: !@#$^&*() [email protected]&*() Is there any reason why it would be dropping the percent sign?

    I am trying to use the MVVM pattern, and I am wondering where I place an ID value. Do I create a TextBlock that has its visibility property set to collapsed? Or is there a better place to store this kind of data?     I'm starting to learn SQL and I'm working on this exercise: I have a "books" table which holds the info on every book (including price and genre ID). I need to get the name of the genre which has the highest average price. I suppose that I first need to group the prices by genre and then retrieve the name of the highest.. I know that I can get the results GENRE VS COST with the following: select b.genre, round(avg(b.price),2) as cost from books b group by b.genre; My question is, to get the genre with the highest AVG price from that result, do I have to make: select aux.genre from ( select b.genre, round(avg(b.price),2) as cost from books b group by b.genre ) aux where aux.cost = (select max(aux.cost) from ( select b.genre, round(avg(b.price),2) as cost from books l group by b.genre ) aux); Is it bad practice or isn't there another way? I get the correct result but I'm not confortable with creating two times the same selection. I'm not using PL SQL so I can't use variables or anything like that.. Any help will be appreciated.   • MySQL 5.1 implicit cast from now() to a date field

    Hello, I have an issue with MySQL 5.1. A datetime data type isn't implicitly casted to match a date column. SELECT * FROM my_table WHERE my_date_field = NOW() This request doesn't return any rows using MySQL 5.1, but works well with version 5.0. If we use CURDATE() instead of NOW() it works both in MySQL 5.0 and MySQL 5.1. If the cast is explicit (CAST(NOW() AS DATE)), it also works both in MySQL 5.0 and MySQL 5.1. The problem only appears with implicit cast from datetime to date. Doesn't anyone already encountered this issue or has a clue about how to solve this problem? I know it's not the best to use NOW() instead of CURTIME(), but this isn't the question here. It is currently used in an application and the purpose is to avoid rewriting everything. Thanks!

  • Updating a specific key/value inside of an array field with MongoDB

    As a preface, I've been working with MongoDB for about a week now, so this may turn out to be a pretty simple answer. I have data already stored in my collection, we will call this collection content, as it contains articles, news, etc. Each of these articles contains another array called author which has all of the author's information (Address, Phone, Title, etc). The Goal - I am trying to create a query that will update the author's address on every article that the specific author exists in, and only the specified author block (not others that exist within the array). Sort of a "Global Update" to a specific article that affects his/her information on every piece of content that exists. I thought I was on the right track, and here's what I've tried. b.content.update( {authors: {$elemMatch: {slug: 'joe-somebody'} } }, {$set: {address: '1234 Avenue Rd.'} }, false, true ); I just believe there's something I am missing in the $set statement to specify the correct author and point inside of the correct array.     I have two tables with the same structure: id name 1 Merry 2 Mike and id name 1 Mike 2 Alis I need to join second table to first with keeping unique names, so that result is: id name 1 Merry 2 Mike 3 Alis Is it possible to do this with MySQL query, without using php script?
