• Hearing repeated sound in Linux mint Chrome Browser

  I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine . What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ? And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this . • Linux Defualt Startup Display PCI to fix black boot screen

  You heard it all before black screen on boot after perfectly fine install of most linux ubnuntu mint etc distributions (the netbook works fine) It has an Intel N10 integrated graphics chipset. I have actually found that if I plug in an external display then remove it the default screen turns on and my laptop works fine drivers all great - I have tried the screen cycle button fn f7 but doesn't work when no display is plugged in. It also works out all the correct resolutions and no modification of the grub bootloader or creating any xorg configs. So I think my monitor is forcing to a display that doesn't exist. Do you know if there is anyway I can force it to choose a different screen at boot so I can get a login screen? I can use nomodeset on grub but xrandr cant add the damned 1024 600 60 resolution that I need! Ideas guys?

• How to force my laptop to use the discrete GPU?

  My laptop (Asus X7BSV) is stuck using only the integrated GPU. It has a nVidia GT540M as well, but I cannot get it to work. I am using a Windows 7 x64 with latest drivers. This occurred after I attached an external USB monitor I need for work, and since then I cannot swap back to the nVidia GPU (dxdiag for example says that the primary GPU is the Intel integrated one). Asus support asked me to completely reinstall the system, but that is something I do not want to do. I checked the BIOS, there is no option as to what GPU to use. The nVidia card itself is working, since I can use CUDA on it, and it worked with a Ubuntu Live CD. In the nVidia software management I tried setting it to global setting, high performance GPU (nVidia), but that had no impact. What am I missing here? I did uninstall/delete all drivers and software related to the external monitor, but that did not help.

• What causes Windows Boot to stall?

  For about 6 months now I have been having this weird problem where Windows 7 fails to fully boot correctly. What happens is this. Starting Windows shows up on the screen. Then 3 out of 4 times nothing else happens, no Windows Flag animation, just nothing occurs. After 3 or 4 restarts repeating steps 1-2 above, the Windows Flag animation finally shows up and everything works as expected. My question is what is causing this problem in steps 1 and 2? Because I have tried the following with no luck: Error checking and correcting of any disk errors Updating drivers Doing a clean install of Windows 7 My setup is as follows: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate 8 GB RAM 128 GB Crucial SSD (firmware 0005) Dell Latitude E6410 Intel Wireless and Graphics Other than what I have tried above I am totally out of ideas and looking for some new ones to try.

• Why does my wifi fail to stay connected?

  We have 5 different laptops in the house, 1 macbook, 1 Compaq, 3 dells, plus numerous little devices like ipods, squeezeboxs, squeezebox radios and controllers, you name it. All of them connect to and stay connected to the "downstairs" WIFI just fine. But my laptop (the most expensive of the lot) refuses to stay connected, preferring the much weaker and slower signal upstairs. My laptop is running Win7 (64 bit) Ultimate with an Intel 3945ABG WIFI contoller (It's a Dell Precision M6300). • VLC 2.0: can't enable UPnP support

  I'm attempting to use VLC 2.0.1 (Intel 64 bit) to connect to a UPnP server (Serviio 0.6.2 on OS X Snow Leopard). I've tried to enable the feature by right clicking the "Universal Plug 'n Play" node in the LOCAL NETWORK section of the Main Window. While I am able to select 'Enable', the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. Moreover, UPnP isn't listed in the Playlist Service discovery section of the preferences. The 'Service discovery modules' is currently set to upnp_intel:sap. I am able to connect to the UPnP server with my Samsung TV, so I know that the service works.

• Sorting out mSSD acceleration on a Acer M3-581TG

  I recently purchased a Acer Timeline M3 Ultra, it ships with a 500GB HDD and a 20GB mSSD to use as a cache. First thing I did when I got it was format the drives and install a clean OS (on the HDD, the mSSD has nothing on it) - but now I can't figure out how everything needs to be configured in order to use the mSSD as a cache, it just looks like a standard storage drive. I've poked around in the BIOS and there is a SATA mode setting, but it only has one option (AHCI), most of the documentation I've seen on the subject says that the SATA controller needs to be in RAID mode otherwise 'Acceleration' isn't visible in the Intel SRT menu (which for me, it isn't) I've seen a few things that suggest I just need the correct partition layout, I tried this using fdisk from a Linux LiveCD but got nowhere. Any ideas? The laptop shipped with no recovery media so I'm marginally stumped. I don't have any issue with reformatting again if required.

  I made a CPIO archive with following command on Solaris 11 (SPARC): find . | cpio -ov >/tmp/myarchive.cpio I copied it to Intel based Solaris 11 machine and tried to extract using the following command cpio -icvdu < myarchive.cpio It gives me following error: cpio: Not a cpio file, bad header. 1 errors The MD5SUM hash matches and I can extract it on another SPARC machine. My question, does CPIO produce platform dependant output? Is there any way to convert it? I cannot use TAR at this moment, because the directory I am archiving has long symbolic links that are skipped by TAR command

The access to the root server will only be SSH for Administration. Has anybody done this before, what was your glues discovered in the daily use? My requirements are: very secure, so the root server only has ssh to the dom-0 and minimalistic ports for the guest (e.g. http/s). good monitoring of host/guest (my idea is to using zabbix for it) easy and fast administration (how are the command line tools working for you? cryptiv? high learning curve?) • Screen is black at login screen if display driver is enabled

  I have a Lenovo x200 and recently its screen didn't work, so I took it to a repair lab. The guy told me they replaced the screen inverter. I powered up the laptop and the ThinkPad logo was shown, so I was happy. When I got home the computer would boot up, then instead of the logon screen, I got a black screen. Went to safe mode, disabled the display adapters, reset the computer, and I got a clean boot. Then I tried to reinstall the drivers, and it just led to the same condition. My video card is (from device manager): Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. Now my laptop works as I'm working with display drivers disabled, but without display drivers I can't watch movies, etc. Any solution to this problem? Edit: I plugged in an external monitor and it works on it with display drivers enabled. However, it does not find the laptop monitor.

• Strange noise from my laptop when it is closed

  I am fan of powerfull PCs with huge wide screen monitors but I have bought an laptop as gift to my parents. This is the description: "second-handed" lenovo (and there is a sign "ThinkPad" Intel Core Duo CPU T6570 2.10 GHz 64 bits Windows 7 Ultimate and the issue is that when the laptop is turn on and then closed, after a interval of time (I am not sure how much exactly but I believe it is several hours) a strange noise come from the laptop. The noise is something like a "start-up" noise of old computers. I first thought this is some hardware issue but everything seems to work fine. Has anyone an idea what can cause this type of noise or a what can I do in order to track the problem down? I am not sure if this is a important thing, but the laptop is always connected to the power. Note: I have just noticed that the sound is generated again when the laptop is closed and then opened. • PC shut downs automatically after a second

  I have this not-so-old computer that's not being used for a year or so. Specs: Motherboard: ASUS PN5-E SLI CPU: Intel Core2Duo E4300 RAM:2x2GB SuperTalent DDR2-800 VGA: Zogis GeForce 7950GT PSU: Vitsuba San-55-S 550w HD: No hardrives yet When I power on the computer, everything seem to start, but right away the whole system shuts down. I've removed and changed the RAM sticks, take out the VGA, everything I could think of. So what could it be causing this? The PSU? The motherboard is dead? The CPU? I need the NAS for the following purposes: It should be accessible from by Windows PC so that I can dump data on the NAS (installations, media etc) It should be accessible from my Macbook for the above use. • Unable to diagnose Windows 7 lockup

  Basic info: Laptop Dell Studio XPS 13 (Intel P9600, 4GB RAM, NVidia 9400M card, 256G Samsung PM800 SSD) Windows 7 Ultimate, as well as Fedora 14 Here's the deal - Windows would just lock up out of nowhere, no log entries, no dumps, no BSOD, it just freezes. This happens mostly when idle (but it happened when I was using it too) and does not follow a concrete time frame. No input is accepted - only solution is to hold the power button. Although this sounds like a clean cut hardware issue, the reason I'm willing to rule this out is that my primary OS is Fedora 14. It's been working fine for the past 2 years and I've been stress testing the hardware (intentionally or not) every once in a while with no issues. I would like to ask if there's any way to get a diagnostic output from Windows in a situation such as this. The next step in my testing is to leave it in Safe Mode overnight and see if it locks up but even if I do that, I still need to figure out what component freezes it up during normal operation.

• Is there a RAR extractor (for multiple rar files like .r00 etc.) that will use all of my quad cores?

  I've got a quad core Intel processor. I've got a big file split into little ones as RAR files, foo.r00, foo.r01, etc. which the RAR program extracts into one file/directory. Is there a RAR program that I can specify like "use four cores" in the extract process? At the moment it sits there using 100% of one core. I recognise the bottleneck might be my hard drive anyway, but I don't see a lot of HD usage and suspect the decompression process is more intensive than waiting on I/O. For example, GNU Make accepts a (-j, I think) argument to tell it how many cores to use, which I used to compile PHP 6 really quickly.

Here's a look at the errors: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT 0x1A (ntoskrnl.exe) - I've seen this 9 times since April 2012 NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM 0x24 (Ntfs.sys) - this one's new, happend 4 days ago BAD_POOL_HEADER 0x19 (win32k.sys) - also new, happened 7 days ago My system specs: Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz ASUS Sabertooth P67 Motherboard (Rev 2) * RMA'd my Rev 1 due to recall 16GB (4 x 4GB) Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM 2 x 640GB Western Digital Caviar Black 64MB SATA HDD EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTS450 1GB PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card I've got Windows 7 Home Premium and it's completely patched. I'm also running Microsoft Security Essentials, which is up-to-date and always present. I've run MemTest86+ from a USB drive for up to nine hours, giving my RAM a total of 6 passes, and it didn't detect a single error. I've used chkdsk in Windows 7 to scan the C:/ drive on boot (twice) and it found no problems. How can I find out what's causing all these blue screens?

  Areca RAID controller ARC-1880ix-12 (firmware 1.50) hangs when on high load. My setup is: Chenbro 3U chassis Intel S5500BC mainboard Xeon 5603 CPU 16GB of RAM 12 Seagate SAS drives ST32000645SS (2 of them as hot spare, 10 as RAID10) Mellanox Infiniband HBA card This server is working as external infiniband storage for Xen VMs. When load is quite big Areca's firmware hangs - it becomes unreachable even from Areca's ethernet adapter. After resetting the server power it returns to normal operation. While Areca is hanged I can confirm that it is powered (ethernet link is active) and Infiniband HBA works Ok. Thanks in advance for any idea or suggestion where the problem might be!

  It's a new build, but it's always had noisy fans. From start to end, they will not stop running. The case is a cooler master which I believe comes with a fan that is not controlled by BIOS (according to technician), so that may be the source of the problem..but my lack of knowledge on the matter prevents me from making a reasonable assessment.   BSOD constantly and the disk indicator is frozen. Error do not happen immediately, usually an hour after boot up. Here is the Minidump: Bug Check Code = 0x00000124 Caused By Driver = ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Crash Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Seems to be hardware problem, but I checked RAM, no error. I have two HDs installed, system is on SSD, data is on HDD. Checked SSD with the properties-tools-error-checking , no error. Re-installed several times, still happens even after removed HDD. Configuration: SSD: Crucial M4-CT064M4SSD2 with Firmware 0009 Intel HM65 CPU: i7-2630QM The SSD is set correctly, SATA III 6Gb/s enabled, and everything worked perfectly for nearly a year.
