  • Testing Rails Metal With Cucumber/rSpec

    - by nkabbara
Hi, I'm trying to stub a third party service that my metal talks to. It seems rspec mocks/stubs don't extend all the way to the Metal. When I call stubbed methods on objects, it calls the original one and not the stubbed one. Any idea of how I can have rSpec doubles extend all the way to the metal? Thanks. -Nash

  • Rails partial show latest 5 kases

    - by Danny McClelland
Hi Everyone, I have my application setup with a few different partials working well. I have asked here how to get a partial working to show the latest entry in the kase model, but now I need to show the latest 5 entries in the kase model in a partial. I have duplicated the show most recent one partial and it's working where I need it to but only shows the last entry, what do I need to change to show the last 5? _recent_kases.html.erb <% if Kase.most_recentfive %> <h4>The most recent case reference is <strong><%= Kase.most_recentfive.jobno %></strong></h4> <% end %> kase.rb def self.most_recentfive first(:order => 'id DESC') end Thanks, Danny

  • Rails: AJAX Controller JS not firing...

    - by neezer
I'm having an issue with one of my controller's AJAX functionality. Here's what I have: class PhotosController < ApplicationController # ... def create @photo = Photo.new(params[:photo]) @photo.image_content_type = MIME::Types.type_for(@photo.image_file_name).to_s @photo.image_width = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).width.to_i @photo.image_height = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).height.to_i @photo.save! respond_to do |format| format.js end end # ... end This is called through a POST request sent by this code: $(function() { // add photos link $('a.add-photos-link').colorbox({ overlayClose: false, onComplete: function() { wire_add_photo_modal(); } }); function wire_add_photo_modal() { <% session_key = ActionController::Base.session_options[:key] %> $('#upload_photo').uploadify({ uploader: '/swf/uploadify.swf', script: '/photos', cancelImg: '/images/buttons/cancel.png', buttonText: 'Upload Photo(s)', auto: true, queueID: 'queue', fileDataName: 'photo[image]', scriptData: { '<%= session_key %>': '<%= u cookies[session_key] %>', commit: 'Adding Photo', controller: 'photos', action: 'create', '_method': 'post', 'photo[gallery_id]': $('#gallery_id').val(), 'photo[user_id]': $('#user_id').val(), authenticity_token: encodeURIComponent('<%= u form_authenticity_token if protect_against_forgery? %>') }, multi: true }); } }); Finally, I have my response code in app/views/photos/create.js.erb: alert('photo added!'); My log file shows that the request was successful (the photo was successfully uploaded), and it even says that it rendered the create action, yet I never get the alert. My browser shows NO javascript errors. Here's the log AFTER a request from the above POST request is submitted: Processing PhotosController#create (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-03-16 14:35:33) [POST] Parameters: {"Filename"=>"tumblr_kx74k06IuI1qzt6cxo1_400.jpg", "photo"=>{"user_id"=>"1", "image"=>#<File:/tmp/RackMultipart20100316-54303-7r2npu-0>}, "commit"=>"Adding Photo", "_edited_session"=>"edited", "folder"=>"/kakagiloon/", "authenticity_token"=>"edited", "action"=>"create", "_method"=>"post", "Upload"=>"Submit Query", "controller"=>"photos"} [paperclip] Saving attachments. • How do I utilize REST to post GPS data from an Android device into a Ruby on Rails application?

    - by joecan
I am a student in the process a building an Android app that can post a GPS track into a Rails application. I would like to do things the "Rails" way and take advantage of the REST. My rails application basically has 3 models at this point: users, tracks, and points. A user has_many tracks and a track has_many points. A track also has a total distance. Points have a latitude and longitude. I have successfully been able to create an empty track with: curl -i -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/xml' -d '<track><distance>100</distance></track>' http://localhost:3000/users/1/tracks Whoo hoo! That is pretty cool. I am really impressed that rails do this. Just to see what would happen I tried the following: curl -i -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/xml -d '<track><distance>100</distance><points><point><lat>3</lat><lng>2</lng></point></points></track>' http://localhost:3000/users/1/tracks Fail! The server spits back: Processing TracksController#create (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-04-14 00:03:25) [POST] Parameters: {"track"={"points"={"point"={"lng"="2", "lat"="3"}}, "distance"="100"}, "user_id"="1"} User Load (0.6ms) SELECT * FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."id" = 1) ActiveRecord::AssociationTypeMismatch (Point(#-620976268) expected, got Array(#-607740138)): app/controllers/tracks_controller.rb:47:in `create' It seems my tracks_controller doesn't like or understand what it's getting from the params object in my tracks_controller.rb: def create @track = @user.tracks.build(params[:track]) My xml might be wrong, but at least Rails seems to be expecting a Point from it. Is there anyway I can fix TracksController.create so that it will be able to parse xml of a track with nested multiple points? Or is there another way I should be doing this entirely?

  • Background job with status in rails

    - by pepernik
Hey. I would like to upload a file and then parse it. Because parsing can take up to 10min I installed delayed_job plugin and called parsing function through send_later function. I have to mention that this is an AJAX app. Imagine that you press an AJAX button that starts upload and after that the source is imported into the database. During the process I want to show the progress bar or message (importing...) and when it completes the task status changes to done. My question is: What is the best way to check for status of the process. What would you do? My idea is to have another controller actions "status" which look into the database and provide the right status.

  • Rails Layout Rendering with controller condition

    - by Victor Martins
I don't know what's the best way to doing this. On my application.html.erb I define a header div. My default controller ( root ) is a homepage controller. And I wish that if I'm at index of the homepage the header is rendering with some content, but all other controllers render another content inside that header. How can I make a condition in that header div to render different content based on the controller that's being rendered?

  • Rails image_tag prefix to a static content

    - by pepernik
I would like to server all static content from a different domain like static.mydomain.com. Is there an option every image_tag, javascript_include_tag and stylesheet_link_tag would automatically add a prefix to that static domain? Example: image_tag '/images/img1.png' would generate http://static.mydomain.com/images/img1.png Thx10x.

  • Ruby on Rails form_remote_tag missing template

    - by Donald Hughes
I'm using form_remote_tag(:url => {:controller => "home", :action => "search"}, :update => "mydiv"). When I click submit on the form "mydiv" is populated with the error "Template is missing. Missing template home/search.erb in view path app/views". I've tried multiple render options in def search, but they all result in the same error. It looks like the search method is trying to use it's default render even though I'm specifying what I want. I've tried: render 'index' render :text => 'Return this from my method!' Is my url incorrect? Is it not submitting back to my home controller's search method?

  • rails routes for permalink with namespaced class

    - by David
this one in my routes works perfectly: map.connect ':permalink', :controller = 'pages', :action = 'show' for this class: class PagesController < BackendController and on /xxx/pages it is shown like this: <%= link_to "#{item.link_name}", {:controller = :pages, :action = :show, :permalink = item.permalink} % which will generate a link like "how-to-create-permalinks". but i decided to move the PagesController into a subdirectory so the class is now written like so: class Backend::PagesController < BackendController But how does the route look like now? And how do i display it on the template so it links using the permalink? Thanks!

  • Rails can't render polymorphic associations to XML?

    - by ambertch
When I render XML with an :include clause for a polymorphic association I have, it doesn't work. I end up with the XML returning the object pointers instead of the actual objects, like: <posts> #<Comment:0x102ed1540>#<Comment:0x102ecaa38>#<Comment:0x102ec7fe0>#<Comment:0x102ec3cd8> </posts> Yet as_json works! When I render JSON with :include clause, the associations are rendered correctly and I get something like: posts":[ {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:30-07:00","id":7,"content":"fourth comment"}, {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:26-07:00","id":6,"content":"third comment"}] My current workaround is using XML builder, but I'm not too comfortable with that in the long run. Does anyone happen to know about this issue? I'm kind of in a catch-22 because while XML doesn't render the associations, as_json doesn't render in a kosher json format (returns an array rather than a list of hashes as proper json should) and the deserializer I'm using on the client side would require modification to parse the json correctly.

  • Best way to create preview functionality in Rails

    - by slythic
Hi all, I'm looking to implement preview functionality in my posts scaffold. All I need to do is allow a user to enter information in the new view (/posts/new) and then replace the submit button with a preview button. Once the preview button is clicked, the user is routed to the preview page (probably /posts/new/preview). If the user wants to make a change they would click 'go back' or if they are happy with the post they can then submit the post. I found this article (http://eyedeal.team88.org/node/105) but it seems dated. Any ideas on what the best approach for this would be? Many thanks, Tony

  • Are rails timers reliable when using Net::HTTP?

    - by Frank
Hi All. When reading data from a potentially slow website, I want to ensure that get_response can not hang, and so added a timer to timeout after x seconds. So far, so good. I then read http://ph7spot.com/musings/system-timer which illustrates that in certain situations timer.rb doesn't work due to ruby's implementation of threads. Does anyone know if this is one of these situations? url = URI.parse(someurl) begin Timeout::timeout(30) do response = Net::HTTP.get_response(url) @responseValue = CGI.unescape(response.body) end rescue Exception = e dosomething end

  • Getting Started with Ruby & Ruby on Rails

    - by JakeTheSnake
Some background: I'm a jack-of-all traits, one of which is programming. I learned VB6 through Excel and PHP for creating websites and so far it's worked out just fine for me. I'm not CS major or even mathematically inclined - logic is what interests me. Current status: I'm willing to learn new and more powerful languages; my first foray into such a route is learning Ruby. I went to the main Ruby website and did the interactive intro. (by the way, I'm currently getting redirected to google.com when I try the link...it's happening to other websites as well...is my computer infected?) I liked what I learned and wanted to get started using Ruby to create websites. I downloaded InstantRails and installed it; everything so far has been fine - the program starts up just fine, and I can test some Ruby code in the console. However my troubles begin when I try and view a web page with Ruby code present. Lastly, my problem: As in PHP, I can browse to the .php file directly and through using PHP tags and some simple 'echo' statements I can be on my way in making dynamic web pages. However with the InstantRails app working, accessing a .rb or .rhtml page doesn't produce similar results. I made a simple text file named 'test.rb' and put basic HTML tags in there (html, head, body) and the Ruby tags <%= and % with some ruby code inside. The web page actually shows the tags and the code - as if it's all just plain HTML. I take it Ruby isn't parsing the page before it is displayed to the user, but this is where my lack of understanding of the Ruby environment stops me short. Where do I go from here?

  • Rails 3.1. Cocoon link_to_add_association example needed

    - by BazZy
pls show any example of using Cocoon's 'link_to_add_association' with html_options. https://github.com/nathanvda/cocoon Documentation says: html_options: extra html-options (see link_to) There are two extra options that allow to conrol the placement of the new link-data: data-association-insertion-node : the jquery selector of the node data-association-insertion-position : insert the new data before or after the given node. But i can not understand what to do, if i want insert partial just before my "add element" link. Not just after parent's div begin. This not gonna work: <%= link_to_add_association "add element", f, :production_years, :position = "after_all" %

  • Including inline javascript using content_for in rails

    - by TenJack
I am using content_for and yeild to inject javascript files into the bottom of my layout but am wondering what the best practice is for including inline javascript. Specifically I'm wondering where the put the script type declaration: <% content_for :javascript do %> <script type="text/javascript"> ... </script> <% end %> or <% content_for :javascript do %> ... <% end %> <script type="text/javascript"> <%= yield :javascript %> </script> <% end %> I am using the first option now and wondering if it is bad to include multiple ... declarations within one view. Sometimes I have partials that lead to this.

  • Ruby on Rails field_for Form Helper Problems

    - by schone
Hi all, I'm using the field_for form helper with a loop: <% f.fields_for :permissions do |permission_form| %> <tr> <td><%= permission_form.object.security_module.name %><%= permission_form.hidden_field(:security_module_id) %></td> <td><%= permission_form.object.security_module.description %></td> <tr> <% end %> The resulting output of the above code is this: <input id="role_permissions_attributes_0_id" name="role[permissions_attributes][0][id]" type="hidden" value="76" /> <tr> <td>Diary<input id="role_permissions_attributes_0_security_module_id" name="role[permissions_attributes][0][security_module_id]" type="hidden" value="13" /></td> <td>Access to the Diary Module</td> </tr> <!-- next input field then <tr> tag --> The problem with this markup is that the input tag falls outside of the tr tag which there for causes validation issues with XHTML. Does anyone know how I can have the input tag fall inside the tr tag therefore giving me valid XHTML 1.0 STRICT markup? Thanks
