  I want to ignore all files in my repository except those that occur in the 'bin' subdirectory. I tried adding the following to my .gitignore * !bin/* This does not have the desired effect, however: I created a new file inside of bin/, but doing 'git status' still "shows nothing to commit (working directory clean)" Any suggestions? • hg convert from cvs broke branches

  I converted an old cvs repository into mercurial via "hg convert". Everything seemed to be okay (at least with the default branch) but all feature branches are missing files which haven't been changed in the branch. Is there any way to fix this up? I'm using version 1.5, convert has been done via "hg convert cvs/checkout newrepo".

  I just switched from Eclipse to NetBeans IDE 6.8 for my PHP/Ajax development. Eclipse always showed a little hard disk symbol over the file icon for files that were in sync with the svn repository, and an asterisk for files with changes that have not been committed. Is there a way to see the commit status in NetBeans? If not, what is your preferred way of recognizing which files to commit?

How can you compare the current state of the remote repository (with the 3 changesets checked in) vs. the current source (on your local machine)? I personally prefer to work with Git - the problem is that the entire community uses SVN, expects RFCs with a SVN compatible patch-file and people are familiar with SVN and send bugfixes agains that SVN repository too. Therefore my only problem is to create patch files which are compatible with Git and SVN at the same time. Is there some kind of smart shell-script or even a buildin feature I'm not aware of? Cheers

  Let's say I have programmers and artists working on a project. The artists have some folders they care about: /Doodles /Images/Jpgs And maybe the programmers have a folder like this: /Code/View/Jpgs What is the best process in Mercurial to keep the 2 Jpgs folders synced? I have used Vault, where you can have 2 or more files/folders linked in a repository so updating one updates another. Is there a way to do the same thing with Mercurial?

• svn says conflicted but it's really merged (TortoiseSVN)

  Lately I've been seeing behavior where after an update svn shows certain files as "conflicted" but when I try to edit the conflicts, there are none (The "next conflict" and "previous conflict" buttons are disabled and if I scroll through the file, none of the lines are marked red). This seems to have started after I started working from a different repository than I had been working with, but I'm not sure if that's related.

• What is the proper way to do a Subversion merge in Eclipse?

  I'm pretty used to how to do CVS merges in Eclipse, and I'm otherwise happy with the way that both Subclipse and Subversive work with the SVN repository, but I'm not quite sure how to do merges properly. When I do a merge, it seems to want to stick the merged files in a seperate directory in my project rather than overwriting the old files that are to be replaced in the merge, as I am used to in CVS.
