• Open Source Embedded Database Options for .Net Applications

  I have a .Net 4.0 WPF application that requires an embedded database. MS Access doesn't work on 64 bit Windows I'm told. And I having issues with SSCE: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1) sqlceme35.dll is installed into my application's program files directory, so I can't seem to figure out why Windows XP Pro doesn't see it. I was wondering about other embedded databases options I might use that work on both 32 and 64 bit windows. Any suggestions?

• jQuery Validate - resetForm() Not Behaving as Expected

  Site in question is http://epraxadev.com/kw/palisade-palms/ "Click here for brochure" and "Learn More about Palisade Palms" both bring up a lightbox with the same HTML form to be filled out...the "learn more..." link also changes some of the HTML in the form (the value for a hidden form field, and the fields required). I'm using Colorbox for the lightbox, and for its onClosed event, I have this to reset the form: onClosed: function() { $('#brochure-form label em').remove(); $('#brochure-form').data('validator').resetForm(); } Now here's the problem: User tries to submit the "brochure" form, but it fails validation. User closes the lightbox. User opens up the "Learn more" lightbox, and tries to submit the form...now, instead of using the correct validation rules (only requiring e-mail and referrer), it requires all fields to be filled out (as is the case with the "Brochure Form") Is there something that I can add to the onClosed function, to clean up all the validation rules? • 3rd Party Document Management Service

  I am developing an asp.net application that requires users to upload/view various documents. Rather then reinvent the wheel I was thinking about using a 3rd party service like Scribd to handle these documents and integrate it into my app via their API; I really like their ipaper viewer too. My concern is some of these documents will be sensitive data. Even though Scribd's FAQ says they are equipped to handle sensitive information, I am a little hesitant to trust an unpaid service that lacks an SLA. Has anyone used Scribd successfully for a similar task? Or can anyone recommend a better document management service?

• Bypassing rack version error using Rails 2.3.5

  I'm currently on Dreamhost attempting to run a Rails 2.3.5 app. Here is the situation, Dreamhost's servers have Rails 2.2.2 installed. Of course, I can't update a shared host's rails version, so I froze my Rails in vendor. Rails 2.3.5 requires the rack v1.0.1 gem. Dreamhost uses the rack v1.0.0 gem. So when I try to define: config.gem "rack", :version => "1.0.1" I get: can't activate rack (~> 1.0.1, runtime) for [], already activated rack-1.0.0 for [] So what I really need to do is bypass my app's request to use 1.0.1, and use Dreamhost's 1.0.0. Does anyone know how to configure this? Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

• Can't access web service when connected to the network :: HTTP 407

  Hi All, I have a console application that communicates with a web service. Both of them are on the same machine. When I am accessing the web service with the LAN disabled, it connects without a problem. But if the LAN is enabled and connected to our office network, I receive this error: "HTTP 407 Proxy Authentication required - The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy service is denied." We've been hunting the source of the problem for three days now. We have tried everything that we can think of. Any ideas what's causing the problem? Additional notes: - The machine is in a Workgroup setup but with DNS suffix (computer.local). When accessing the web service, we type the address as "http://machine.computer.local/service.asmx" I talked to the IT guys and they said that we don't have an ISA server installed There is no "proxy" set in IE. The machine is in mint condition.

• Multiple aggregate functions in one SQL query from the same table using different conditions

  I'm working on creating a SQL query that will pull records from a table based on the value of two aggregate functions. These aggregate functions are pulling data from the same table, but with different filter conditions. The problem that I run into is that the results of the SUMs are much larger than if I only include one SUM function. I know that I can create this query using temp tables, but I'm just wondering if there is an elegant solution that requires only a single query. I've created a simplified version to demonstrate the issue. • lazy loading images in UIScrollView

  I have an application the requires scrolling of many images. because I can not load all the images, and save it in the memory, I am lazy loading them.   i just tried to move from helios to maven with my gwt 2.4 application. so i began to follow the steps here: http://code.google.com/p/google-web-toolkit/wiki/WorkingWithMaven but on step 3 - installing the feature "m2e connector for build-helper-maven-plugin" i get an error from Eclipse: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. I just built a Java OpenGL application in Eclipse... and when i was trying to export the application using EclipseP5Exporter, it requires me to initialize the window size (not viewport size, a window may contain several viewports). I already googled some solutions in the net but I can't seem to get anything useful.. I've tried the method : "glutInitWindowSize(int width, int height);" but it seems to work only in C and python openGL. even if i append the glut before the method (glut.glutInitWindowSize()) eclipse doesn't recognize that method.. So if you guys have any suggestions please let me know... Thank you....

• Ruby equivalent of PHP's fopen() method

  I'm trying to find out if Ruby has en equivalent of php's fopen() method currently used like this: $fd = fopen("php://stdin", "r"); would that be using ARGV variable? Basically what I plan on doing is forward raw e-mail messages using the .procmailrc file which I already got working in a test php file, but the project requires the use of Ruby. Therefore I'm not 100% sure if using the ARGV variable would work or if somehow I need to capture the e-mail stream by some other means. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

  The manual on Zend_Application_Module_Autoloader states the following: When using module bootstraps with Zend_Application, an instance of Zend_Application_Module_Autoloader will be created by default for each discrete module, allowing you to autoload module resources. Source: http://framework.zend.com/manual/zh/zend.loader.autoloader-resource.html#zend.loader.autoloader-resource.module This requires me to create an empty bootstrap class for each of my modules or else resource autoloading per module won't work with the build-in autoloader. Now I have two questions What is a discrete module? Is there a way to have this resource autoloader registered by default for each module without the need to create a bootstrap file for each module? I want it available in each module and creating so many empty bootstrap classes is something i'd rather prevent.

Though I am big believer in focusing on people's strengths being a good programmer requires (I think) being challenged by concepts and ideas that don't always come naturally. • Zend Framework - tinyMCE - plugin folders are mistaken to be controllers? Help

  Hi guys I'm trying to integrate the tinymce plugin however I'm running into problems such that almost every feature which requires a plugin to be rendered i.e the add url popup or add image pop up - it opens an empty pop up window. Even if I try to open it inline I get the same blank popup window.. I noticed that whenever I click on lets say url button in tinymCE it opens with reference to my localhost and because of that I'm assuming my application is mistaking the containing javascript folder to be some controller or action. How can I fix this please - I've set up mod rewrite to allow clean urls as well as ignore the javascript folder but this is a different issue altogether :( what should I be looking at here.. I can't notice any error sin firebug..

• Release another user's lock obtained with sp_getapplock on SQL Server

  We have a system that uses sp_getapplock to create an exclusive mutex any time someone opens an order in the GUI. This is used to prevent multiple people from making changes to an order simultaneously. Sometimes people will open an order and go home, leaving it open. This effectively blocks anyone from being able to make changes to the order. I then get emails, calls and end up doing a kill <spid> in enterprise manager. Obviously I've gotten sick of this and want to make a quick self-service webform. The main problem I've run into is that kill requires sysadmin privileges, which I do not want to give to the user that the our website runs as. I have tried sp_releaseapplock but this doesn't let you release another user's lock (even when calling it as a sysadmin). So, finally my question; does anyone know of an alternative method to release a lock that was obtained by another user using sp_getapplock?

• Setting Sql server security rights for multiple situations

  We have an application which uses an instance of Sql Server locally for its backend storage. The administrator windows login has had its sysadmin right revoked, and instead two sql logins have been created; one for the application with a secret password and one read only login we let users view the raw data with. This was working fine until we moved on FileStreams, which requires intergrated windows authentication. So now the sql server logins must be replaced. As a result, I am now reviewing all of our logins but I am not sure how it is possible. It seems that the application needs full read/write access, yet I still need to lock down writing to the tables so the user cannot login into the database and delete data randomly. Does anyone have any tips for setting multiple levels of security using intergrated windows logins, or can you direct me to any further reading? • Multilingual support using gettext with codeigniter, best practice?

  I know how to create .po files and how to generate .mo files and then use them for translation on my Codeigniter powered site. However, I'm not quite sure on how to change language from the site GUI. I want to stick to codeigniter's default url calling schema: www.domain.com/controllername/method/param1/param2. Calling the server like this is a no-brainer: www.domain.com/controllername?lang=en Doing that for every controller using the default url schema, requires me to implement the same method in every controller, just to pass the lang parameter to the setlocale() function and then bind to my .po domain name. Feels awkward... ANy ideas how you guys work with gettext in codeigniter? And yes, I do want to work with gettext.

• How do I render the scrollable regions of a canvas with IViewObject::Draw?

  Hi, I've been trying to render the entire canvas in an IWebBrowser2 control to a bitmap. IViewObject::Draw seems to be the most promising approach, but I can't get it to render anything that would requires a scroll to show. While I could automate the scrolling and stitch the images together, this would look weird with any fixed position elements. Is this even doable? Additionally, I've tried to set the controller's size to one that would allow the entire contents to display without needing to scroll, but Windows caps the max size to the current screen resolution, so that only gets me partially there. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm currently doing this in the context of Win7 and IE8, but I don't think that should matter much.

• Want to load jquery dialog from a different web-page

  I'm a bit of a n00b with jquery so this one is probably an RTFM question: I'm writing an application to create a somewhat complex record for my client. Building the record requires doing a couple of server side searches inside a dialog. Right now I have everything framed up in 1 file (asp.net) and it's ok. But I can see as I add the business logic and the communication with the server this is going to get really ugly. I'm alreay putting most of the javascript in external files, but I'd like to move the HTML for the dialogs out too. How do I get the jquery dialog method to load the dialog body from the html files? Something like: getDialogHTML(dialogHolderDiv); <---magic goes here var dialogOptions = { ... }; $("#"+dialogHolderDiv).dialog(dialogOptions); $("#"+dialogHolderDiv).dialog('open'); any help will be apperciated .

  Hi, For my programming tasks I use about 2-3 remote servers to deploy and run my code against different conditions. This cannot be emulated locally as the server configuration requires powerful hardware. Most of time I need to stop service, update binareis, start service, view logs in realtime, download logs. Currently I'm doing this manually and over time this becomes a real pain in the ass, especially because the environment is not ideal in terms of network badwidth, reliability etc. I just wonder if someone from server programmers have the similar problems and how do you bear with them.   Hi, can anyone tell me, how to retrieve joined result from multiple tables in cakePHP ( using cakePHP mvc architecture). For example, I have three tables to join (tbl_topics, tbl_items, tbl_votes. Their relationship is defined as following: a topic can have many items and an item can have many votes. Now I want to retrieve a list of topics with the count of all votes on all items for each topic. The SQL query for this is written below: SELECT Topic.*, count(Vote.id) voteCount FROM tbl_topics AS Topic LEFT OUTER JOIN tbl_items AS Item ON (Topic.id = Item.topic_id) LEFT OUTER JOIN tbl_votes AS Vote ON (Item.id = Vote.item_id); My problem is I can do it easily using $this-><Model Name>->query function, but this requires sql code to be written in the controller which I don't want. I'm trying to find out any other way to do this (like find()).

  When you get the innerHTML of a DOM node in IE, if there are no spaces in an attribute value, IE will remove the quotes around it, as demonstrated below: <html> <head> <title></title> </head> <body> <div id="div1"><div id="div2"></div></div> <script type="text/javascript"> alert(document.getElementById("div1").innerHTML); </script> </body> </html> In IE, the alert will read: <DIV id=div2></DIV> This is a problem, because I am passing this on to a processor that requires valid XHTML, and all attribute values must be quoted. Does anyone know of an easy way to work around this behavior in IE?

• Visual Studio Multi-Targeting (maintaing backwards compatability)

  I know in Visual Studio 2008 you can target a specific framework with your projects, but from what I have been told if you open a project originally created in Visual Studio 2003 or 2005 in Visual Studio 2008, it requires you to upgrade the project to a 2008 project to work on it. Does Visual Studio 2010 have this same type of restriction for multi-targeting? It would be very nice being able to use features of 2010 when working in our projects that target different frameworks, but we do not want to force all of our developers to upgrade in order to continue working in these projects.
