  • Apple push notifications - firewall?

    I've read that to receive push notifications over Wifi the firewall must allow TCP traffic over port 5223. However, the network administrator tells me he needs the IP addres of the server. Would it be gateway.sandbox.push.apple.com? Thanks!

  • Should a HTTP POST'ed file be base64 encoded?

    I'm currently implementing a client application that POST's a file over HTTP and have implemented base64 encoding on the file's data parameter. However, it appears that when inspecting the traffic between a simple HTML page with a file upload form and the server that no Content-Transfer-Encoding header is sent in the body when describing the file's parameter. Is this the preferred way of POST'ing a file over HTTP?

  • Cache SHA1 digest result?

    I'm storing several versions of a file based on a digest of the original filename and its version, like this: $filename = sha1($original . ':' . $version); Would it be worth it to cache the digest ($filename) in memcache as a key/value pair (the key being the original + version and value the sha1 hash), or is generating the digest quick enough (for a high traffic php web app)? Should I be using constants for this? If yes, how should I go about implementing frequently used string literals and will it significantly affect performance on a high-traffic site?   • "Access 2002 vs SQL Server 200*" as DB for sharepoint

    I work with a team that has a sharepoint site currently runnning and its lists are linked to an access DB. My question is really on the investment level, what would be the reasons to upgrade DB to sharepoint if only a few 100 users access this site. Is there a real benefit to replacing the DB with a version of SQL Server, escpecially if about to replace Access 2002 with 2007 some day. I know SQL Server can handle more memory and traffic for more users, but I'm looking for more reasons than that if there are any.

  • Python port forwarding/multiplexing server

    I would like to make server that listen on UDP port 162 (SNMP trap) and then forwards this traffic to multiple clients. Also important is that the source port & address stays same (address spoofing). I guess that best tool for this would be Twisted or Scapy or mybe vanilla sockets, only I can't find anything in the documentation for Twisted about source address spoofing/forging.     I'm using the following Google Maps autload (asynchronous) to load asynchronous both Google Maps v3 and JQuery, like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi?autoload={ "modules":[ {name:"maps",version:3,other_params:"sensor=false"},{"name":"jquery","version":"1.4.2"},{"name":"jqueryui","version":"1.8.1"} ]}"></script> However, looking at the network traffic, it appears that it is not downloading asynchronously. Question: Does anyone understand why the %7Bcommon (google-maps) file is being delayed from download until the jquery-ui.min file completes download first?

  • How to log communication of a WebService running on IIS 6.0?

    I'm running an ASP.NET WebService on IIS 6.0 that shows a lot of HTTP 500 (probably just exceptions from the WebService) inside the log at %systemroot%\System32\LogFiles\W3SVC1 on a customers site. Is it possible to log the content of those HTTP responses and there requests without modifying the WebService using IIS or a plug-in for IIS? I thought of using Wireshark or Fiddler to sniff on the HTTP traffic but I would prefer to just turn on an option inside IIS to make him log the communication (this should not be to hard since it is logging the requested URLs anyway)

I've seen a few different techniques used to try combat this such as short sessions and virtual queues but they dont seem to have much effect.
