• Google search question, front page not showing

  I know this is probably a dumb question but I hope someone can give me some insight; I was ranked on Google first page of search results for "funny st patricks day shirts" but I was third from the bottom and not familiar enough with SEO, so I signed up for "Attracta" to rank higher. Big mistake. Since using Attracta, I've lost the first page and I'm now on the fourth page in that search. What I noticed is that Google is now just showing a sub-page or side page, (a link from my front page, to a page which has only a few designs in it) this is not where I would want customers to land first... but my front page is not showing in that search anymore. Obviously, the title of this side page is not geared toward that search result, so I know that's why I have the pr drop. Why is my front page not ranking over that page, though? Why is it apparently gone from that search, or so far back no one will ever find it? I need to know how to fix this quick if anyone has any advice at all for me. It's the busiest season for my website and the people who were stealing design ideas from me are all ranked higher than my site now. (I can prove this, lol) So, I'm very frustrated by that. I would be very grateful to have any advice at all as to what I can do to fix this. THANKS in advance for any advice you can offer. Catelyn

• What is wrong with my logic for the divide and conquer algorithm for Closest pair problem?

  I have been following Coursera's course on Algorithms and came up with a thought about the divide/conquer algorithm for the closest pair problem, that I want clarified. As per Prof Roughgarden's algorithm (which you can see here if you're interested): For a given set of points P, of which we have two copies - sorted in X and Y direction - Px and Py, the algorithm can be given as closestPair(Px,Py): Divide points into left half - Q, and right half - R, and form sorted copies of both halves along x and y directions - Qx,Qy,Rx,Ry Let closestPair(Qx,Qy) be points p1 and q1 Let closestPair(Rx,Ry) be p2,q2 Let delta be minimum of dist(p1,q1) and dist(p2,q2) This is the unfortunate case, let p3,q3 be the closestSplitPair(Px,Py,delta) Return the best result Now, the clarification that I want is related to step 5. I should say this beforehand, that what I'm suggesting, is barely any improvement at all, but if you're still interested, read ahead. Prof R says that since the points are already sorted in X and Y directions, to find the best pair in step 5, we need to iterate over points in the strip of width 2*delta, starting from bottom to up, and in the inner loop we need only 7 comparisions. Can this be bettered to just one? How I think is possible seemed a little difficult to explain in plain text, so I drew a diagram and wrote it on paper and uploaded it here: Since no one else came up with is, I'm pretty sure there's some error in my line of thought. But I have literally been thinking about this for HOURS now, and I just HAD to post this. It's all that is in my head. Can someone point out where I'm going wrong?

  SharePoint list items have in the the base Item template a field named Order. This field is not shown by default. SharePoint 2007, 2010 and 2013 have a possibility to specify the order in a UI, using the _layouts page: {SiteUrl}/_layouts/Reorder.aspx?List={ListId} In SharePoint 2010 and 2013 it is possible to add a custom action to a list. It is possible to add a custom action to order list items as follows (SharePoint 2010 description): Open SharePoint Designer 2010 Navigate to a list Select Custom Actions > List Item Menu Fill in the dialog box: Open List Settings > Advanced Settings > Content Types, and set Allow management of content types to No  On List Settings select Column Ordering This results in the following UI in the browser: Selecting the custom Order Items action (under List Tools > Items) results in: You can change your custom action in SharePoint designer. On the list screen in the bottom right corner you can find the custom action: We now need to modify the view to include the order by adding the Order field to the view, and sorting on the Order field. Problem is that the Order field is hidden. It is possible to modify the schema of the Order field to set the Hidden attribute to FALSE. • Double entries in the gnome 3 task bar

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with Gnome 3. All was working well except that graphics were slow and even moving a window on the screen seemed slow. I installed the fglrx ati driver. Which seems to have improved matters. But on first login I had all gnome items duplicated. That is my task bar has the ubuntu sign, then says Applications, then places then the ubuntu sign then Aplications and then places. Any application I run produces two icons at the bottom of the screen. This was after a reboot. I rebooted again. Now I have 3!! On the right each set of icons such as printer is also trippled!! • Touchpad not working on HP

  Everything worked fine in Ubuntu 10.04, flawless in fact, I admired the way the Operating System had handled such a unique touchpad so well. I have an HP Pavilion dv6. The touchpad and left, middle, and right click buttons are all on the trackpad, and it the bottom end depresses to click accordingly for each kind of click. In 10.04, everything worked fine, upon upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 things became... odd. The scroll on the side would work, as would the left click. The right click wouldn't work however, but if you would lightly tap the exact right corner of the touchpad, the right click menu would come up, though it was inconsistent and difficult to make it do so. I have applied a fix I found on the older Ubuntu Forums for a similar issue, and it restored the normal left and right click, but it isn't as fluid, and there isn't the vertical scroll feature, which I do rather like to have... I would just like things to be as it was, if this is possible, please, please tell me how to do so. Thank you.

• Groovy Grapes in NetBeans IDE

  The start of Groovy Grapes support in NetBeans IDE. Below you see a pure Groovy project, with the Groovy JAR and the Ivy JAR automatically on its classpath. There's also a Groovy script that makes use of a @Grab annotation. In the bottom left, in the Services window, you also see a Grape Repository browser, i.e., showing you the JARs that are currently in ".groovy/grapes". Click the images below to get a better look at them. Next, you see what happens when the project is run. The @Grab annotation automatically starts downloading the JARs that are needed and puts them into the ".groovy/grapes" folder. However, the "no suitable classloader found for grab" error message (which Google shows is a problem for lots of developers) prevents the application from running successfully: The final screenshot shows that I've put the JARs that I need onto the classpath of the project. I did that manually, hoping to learn from the NetBeans Maven project or the NetBeans Gradle project how to do that automatically. Also note that the @Grab annotation has been commented out. Now the error message about the classloader is avoided and the project runs. What needs to happen for Groovy Grapes support to be complete in NetBeans IDE: Figure out how to add the downloaded JARs to the project classpath automatically. Fix the refresh problem in the Grape Repository browser, i.e., right now the refresh doesn't happen automatically yet. Hopefully find a way to get around the grab classloader problem, i.e., it's not ideal that one needs to comment out the annotation. Let the user specify a different Grape repository, i.e., right now ".groovy/grapes" is assumed, but the user should be able to point the repository browser to something different. Maybe there should be support for multiple Grape repositories? Comments/feedback/help is welcome.

  I'm still working on my window cleaning game from one of my previous questions I marked a contribution as my answer, but after all this time I can't get it to work and I have to many questions about this so I decided to ask some more about it. As a sequel on my mentioned previous question, my question to you is: How can I check whether or not a bitmapData contains non transparent pixels? Subquestion: Is this possible when the masked image is a movieclip? Shouldn't I use graphics instead? Information I have: A dirtywindow movieclip on the bottom layer and a clean window movieclip on layer 2(mc1) on the layer above. To hide the top layer(the dirty window) I assign a mask to it. • Macbook overheats in 12.04 beta

  Since I've heard a lot of great things about the upcoming 12.04 release, I decided to give the beta 2 a shot. Everything works very well, except ubuntu wasn't controlling the fan speed for a while. In all the past versions of ubuntu, I've just used the mactel support repository to detect my fans with the macfanctld package, and that has worked well. However it doesn't seem like that package has been updated yet for Precise, so I used the method at this Ubuntu forums thread instead. Now my computers fans are recognized and will spin up, but my laptop is getting VERY hot very frequently. Even just opening up a web browser and Libreoffice writer is enough to make the bottom of my computer feel like it's on fire and cause the fans to spin up to full. "top" shows that there are no programs eating up my CPU usage, which sometimes causes overheating. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. 12.04 is very nice and I know that for 11.10 macfanctld didn't get updated for a long time, so I'm hesitant to just wait for that.

• I Can't run the Netbeans but I installed successfully

  I'm new to Ubuntu as well as Netbeans. I installed Netbeans, and I've made sure to install all the JDKs and JREs I could find. It installed without errors. I also saw this question and made sure I followed all the instructions there as well. I never got any error messages of any kind. So far as I know, it installed okay. However, when I try to run Netbeans, I get the message in the bottom of the Netbeans IDE like this: ant -f /root/NetBeansProjects/samp1 -Djsp.includes=/root/NetBeansProjects/samp1/build/web/one.jsp -DforceRedeploy=false -Dclient.urlPart=/one.jsp -Ddirectory.deployment.supported=true -Djavac.jsp.includes=org/apache/jsp/one_jsp.java -Dnb.wait.for.caches=true run /root/NetBeansProjects/samp1/nbproject/build-impl.xml:774: The libs.CopyLibs.classpath property is not set up.   I'm trying to get an object from object space, into projected space using these intermediate matrices: The first matrix (I) is the one that transforms from object space into inertial space, but since my object is not rotated or translated in any way inside the object space, this matrix is the 4x4 identity matrix. The second matrix (W) is the one that transforms from inertial space into world space, which is just a scale transform matrix of factor a = 14.1 on all coordinates, since the inertial space origin coincides with the world space origin. /a 0 0 0\ W = |0 a 0 0| |0 0 a 0| \0 0 0 1/ The third matrix (C) is the one that transforms from world space, into camera space. • To Virtual or Not to Virtual

  I recently made a comment "I hate everything virtual" while responding to a SQL server performance question.  I then promptly fired up my Hyper-V development environment to do my proof of concept stuff, and realized that I made the cardinal sin of making a generalized comment about something, instead of saying "It depends". The bottom line is if the virtual environment gives the throughput that the server needs, then it is not that big of a deal.  I just have seen so many environment set up with SQL server sitting in virtual environment sitting in a SAN, so on top of having to plan for loss data, I now have to plan for my virtual environment failing for so many different reasons, thought SQL 2012 High Availability Group should make that easier.  To me, a virtual environment makes sense for a stateless application with big scalibility requirement, but doesn't give much benefit to an application where performance and data integrity are both important.  If security is not a concern, I would just build servers with multiple instances on them to balance the workload. Maybe this is also too generalized a comment, and I'll confess that I'm not a DBA by trade.  I'd love to hear the pros and cons of virtualizing a SQL server, or other examples where virtualization makes total sense (not just money, but recovery, rollback, etc.)

• What is appropriate way for managing MySQL connection through C#

  My question, at the bottom line, is what is the appropriate(best) way to manage our connection towards MySQL db with C#. Well, currently I'm working on some C# (winforms type) <- MySQL application and I've been looking at Server Connections in MySQL Administrator, been witness of execution of my mysql_queries, connection opens an closes, ... an so on! In my C# code I'm working like this and this is an example: public void InsertInto(string qs_insert) { try { conn = new MySqlConnection(cs); conn.Open(); cmd = new MySqlCommand(); cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = qs_insert; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } catch (MySqlException ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.ToString()); } finally { if (conn != null) { conn.Close(); } } } Meaning, every time I want to insert something in db table I call this table and pass insert query string to this method. Connection is established, opened, query executed, connection closed. So, we could conclude that this is the way I manage MySQL connection. For me and my point of view, currently, this works and its enough for my requirements. Well, you have Java & Hibernate, C# & Entity Framework and I'm doing this :-/ and it's confusing me. Should I use MySQL with Entity Framework? What is the best way for collaboration between C# and MySQL? • 10.04 Window manager not working

  Using an old mx200 128Mb AGP card. Log in ok. Sometimes the top and bottom bars do not appear, sometimes one sometimes both sometimes none. The menus on firefox/thunderbird and others disappear when I move the pointer from the menu heading to the menu itself. I can't play you tube videos, nor pacman, so the world has ended as I know it. If I type sudo metacity --replace in a terminal the window manager seems to work fine. But I don't know how to make this permanent. One option was: System menupreferencessessions In the sessions tab make sure that "automatically save changes to session" is checked. I don't have a sessions option in the preferences menu. So...? Must be a line of code in a terminal I can use to get round this. I have not upgraded to Ubuntu 11... because the graphics card is so old that I cannot get any decent screen resolutions when I do. On 10.04 I disable the Nvidia driver for the same reason and use 1024x768. Ta
