  • iPhone XCODE Programming make a UIWebView Scrollable

    - by Antonio Murgia
    here is the problem! I have a UIWebView in my programs that loads a php page. The problem is that if the page has a lot of lines i cannot see them. I can "scroll" the UIWebView but when I leave the finger from the screen the page comes back to the original state. I don't want to scale pages to fit the view cause if I do that the letters become too small. I would like to find a way to scroll pages how it is possible in Safari. Hope i have explained the problem. Thank you in advance Antonio

  • More efficient programming than Web.py?

    - by Luke Stanley
    I love webpy, it's really quite Pythonic but I don't like having to add the url mappings and create a class, typically with just 1 function inside it. I'm interested in minimising code typing and prototyping fast. Does anyone have any up and coming suggestions such as Bobo, Bottle, Denied, cherrypy for a lover of webpy's good things? What makes it a good reason? Also I don't mind missing out (strongly) text based templating systems, I use object oriented HTML generation.

  • Podcast Focusing on XNA or Game/Graphics Programming in General

    - by Daniel Brotherston
    I realize there are a number of podcast related questions, but I'm specifically looking for XNA oriented podcasts. I've Googled around a little bit, but I have been unable to find any current podcasts. I'm just wondering if anyone else knows of any interesting ones. I'd guess if Google can't find them, they don't exist but I thought I'd ask anyways. Also, failing that, podcasts about game development in general would be interesting as well. Thanks!

  • Programming an Android Button to update EditText views

    - by bergler77
    Ok guys, I have a button in android that i'm trying to use to update 8 EditText Views with different random numbers. Everything works up until I click the button. It appears I am missing a resource according to the debugger, but I'm not sure what. I've tried several different ways of implementing the button. Here is what I have after looking at several posts. import java.util.Random; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.EditText; public class MyCharNewChar extends MyCharActivity { private OnClickListener randomButtonListener = new OnClickListener(){ public void onClick(View v) { //Button creates a set of random numbers and updates the values //of the EditText views. Random rand = new Random(); int STR = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int AGI = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int DEX = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int WIS = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int INT = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int CON = 1 + rand.nextInt(12); int HP = 1 + rand.nextInt(20); int AC = 1 + rand.nextInt(6); EditText str = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.str); str.setText(STR); EditText agi = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.agi); agi.setText(AGI); EditText dex = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.dex); dex.setText(DEX); EditText wis = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.wis); wis.setText(WIS); EditText intel = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.intel); intel.setText(INT); EditText con = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.con); con.setText(CON); EditText hp = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.baseHP); hp.setText(HP); EditText ac = • Which programming languages aren't considered high-level?

    - by hilo
    In informatics theory I hear and read about high-level and low-level languages all time. Yet I don't understand why this is still relevant as there aren't any (relevant) low-level languages except assembler in use today. So you get: Low-level Assembler Definitely not low-level C BASIC FORTRAN COBOL ... High-level C++ Ruby Python PHP ... And if assembler is low-level, how could you put for example C into the same list. I mean: C is extremely high-level compared to assembler. Same even for COBOL, Fortran, etc. So why does everybody keep mentioning high and low-level languages if assembler is really the only low-level language.

  • GPGPU programming with OpenGL ES 2.0

    - by Albus Dumbledore
    I am trying to do some image processing on the GPU, e.g. median, blur, brightness, etc. The general idea is to do something like this framework from GPU Gems 1. I am able to write the GLSL fragment shader for processing the pixels as I've been trying out different things in an effect designer app. I am not sure however how I should do the other part of the task. That is, I'd like to be working on the image in image coords and then outputting the result to a texture. I am aware of the gl_FragCoords variable. As far as I understand it it goes like that: I need to set up a view (an orthographic one maybe?) and a quad in such a way so that the pixel shader would be applied once to each pixel in the image and so that it would be rendering to a texture or something. But how can I achieve that considering there's depth that may make things somewhat awkward to me... I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me with this rather simple task as I am really frustrated with myself. UPDATE It seems I'll have to use an FBO, getting one like this: glBindFramebuffer(...)

  • SSIS - Wizard vs manual vs programming

    - by alchemical
    I'd like to move 26 tables from one DB to another. I see I can do this in the SSIS Import and Export Wizard. I believe the other approach would be to select tools from the toolbar in Data Flow and then configure them all. When is it better to use the wizard and when is it best to create the package manually (with the visual tools) or programmatically? One thing I noticed with the Wizard is that it lets me select multiple tables at once, but I could not find a way to get back to that screen once the package is created, so that I could edit the various tables all in one place.

  • netlogo programming question - catalyst implementation part 2

    - by user286190
    hi the catalyst speeds up the reaction but remains unchanged after the reaction has taken place i tried the following code breed [catalysts catalyst] breed [chemical-x chemical-x] ;then the forward reaction is sped up by the existence of catalysts to react-forward let num-catalysts count catalysts ;speed up by num-catalysts ;... end and it works fine but I want to make it so that the catalyst can be switched on and off with the 'switch' button ..so one can see the effects with and without the catalyst..i tried putting a switch in but catalyst has already been defined Also i want to make the catalyst visible so one can see it in the actual implementation (in the world) like making it a turtle is there are another way to implement this apart from using breeds i tried making the catalyst a turtle but it doesnt work ; Make catalyst visible in implementation clear-all crt catalysts 100 ask catalysts [ set color white ] show [breed] of one-of catalysts ; prints catalysts any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

  • Linux Kernel programming: trying to get vm_area_struct->vm_start crashes kernel

    - by confusedKid
    Hi, this is for an assignment at school, where I need to determine the size of the processes on the system using a system call. My code is as follows: ... struct task_struct *p; struct vm_area_struct *v; struct mm_struct *m; read_lock(&tasklist_lock); for_each_process(p) { printk("%ld\n", p->pid); m = p->mm; v = m->mmap; long start = v->vm_start; printk("vm_start is %ld\n", start); } read_unlock(&tasklist_lock); ... When I run a user level program that calls this system call, the output that I get is: 1 vm_start is 134512640 2 EIP: 0073:[<0806e352] CPU: 0 Not tainted ESP: 007b:0f7ecf04 EFLAGS: 00010246 Not tainted EAX: 00000000 EBX: 0fc587c0 ECX: 081fbb58 EDX: 00000000 ESI: bf88efe0 EDI: 0f482284 EBP: 0f7ecf10 DS: 007b ES: 007b 081f9bc0: [<08069ae8] show_regs+0xb4/0xb9 081f9bec: [<080587ac] segv+0x225/0x23d 081f9c8c: [<08058582] segv_handler+0x4f/0x54 081f9cac: [<08067453] sig_handler_common_skas+0xb7/0xd4 081f9cd4: [<08064748] sig_handler+0x34/0x44 081f9cec: [<080648b5] handle_signal+0x4c/0x7a 081f9d0c: [<08066227] hard_handler+0xf/0x14 081f9d1c: [<00776420] 0x776420 Kernel panic - not syncing: Kernel mode fault at addr 0x0, ip 0x806e352 EIP: 0073:[<400ea0f2] CPU: 0 Not tainted ESP: 007b:bf88ef9c EFLAGS: 00000246 Not tainted EAX: ffffffda EBX: 00000000 ECX: bf88efc8 EDX: 080483c8 ESI: 00000000 EDI: bf88efe0 EBP: bf88f038 DS: 007b ES: 007b 081f9b28: [<08069ae8] show_regs+0xb4/0xb9 081f9b54: [<08058a1a] panic_exit+0x25/0x3f 081f9b68: [<08084f54] notifier_call_chain+0x21/0x46 081f9b88: [<08084fef] __atomic_notifier_call_chain+0x17/0x19 081f9ba4: [<08085006] atomic_notifier_call_chain+0x15/0x17 081f9bc0: [<0807039a] panic+0x52/0xd8 081f9be0: [<080587ba] segv+0x233/0x23d 081f9c8c: [<08058582] segv_handler+0x4f/0x54 081f9cac: [<08067453] sig_handler_common_skas+0xb7/0xd4 081f9cd4: [<08064748] sig_handler+0x34/0x44 081f9cec: [<080648b5] handle_signal+0x4c/0x7a 081f9d0c: [<08066227] hard_handler+0xf/0x14 081f9d1c: [<00776420] 0x776420 The first process (pid = 1) gave me the vm_start without any problems, but when I try to access the second process, the kernel crashes.   • Tuesday + 3 = Friday? C++ Programming Problem

    - by lampshade
    Looking at the main function, we can see that I've Hard Coded the "Monday" into my setDay public function. It is easy to grab a day of the week from the user using a c-string (as I did in setDay), but how would I ask the user to add n to the day that is set, "Monday" and come up with "Thursday"? It is hard because typdef enum { INVALID, MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY} doesn't interpret 9 is 0 and/or 10 as 1. #include <iostream> using std::cout; using std::endl; class DayOfTheWeek //class is encapsulation of functions and members that manipulate the data. { public: DayOfTheWeek(); // Constructor virtual ~DayOfTheWeek(); // Destructor void setDay(const char * day); // Function to set the day void printDay() const; // Function to Print the day. const char * getDay() const; // Function to get the day. const char * plusOneDay(); // Next day function const char * minusOneDay(); // Previous day function const char * addDays(int addValue); // function that adds days based on parameter value private: char * day; // variable for the days of the week. }; DayOfTheWeek::DayOfTheWeek() : day(0) { // Usually I would allocate pointer member variables // Here in the construction of the Object } const char * DayOfTheWeek::getDay() const { return day; // we can get the day simply by returning it. } const char * DayOfTheWeek::minusOneDay() { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Monday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Thursday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day before " << day << " is "; return "Saturday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "'"; return "is an invalid day of the week!"; } } const char * DayOfTheWeek::plusOneDay() { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Thursday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Saturday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << "The day after " << day << " is "; return "Monday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "'"; return " is an invalid day of the week!"; } } const char * DayOfTheWeek::addDays(int addValue) { if ( addValue < 0 ) { if ( strcmp( day, "Monday" ) == 0) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Friday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Tuesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Saturday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Wednesday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Sunday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Thursday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Monday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Friday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Tuesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Saturday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Wednesday"; } else if ( strcmp( day, "Sunday" ) == 0 ) { cout << day << " - " << -addValue << " = "; return "Thursday"; } else { cout << "'" << day << "' "; return "is an invalid day of the week!   • Low latency programming

    - by Sambatyon
    I've been reading a lot about low latency financial systems (especially since the famous case of corporate espionage) and the idea of low latency systems has been in my mind ever since. There are a million applications that can use what these guys are doing, so I would like to learn more about the topic. The thing is I cannot find anything valuable about the topic. Can anybody recommend books, sites, examples on low latency systems?

    I just came across the proposed Boost::Dataflow library. It seems like an interesting approach and I was wondering if there are other such alternative frameworks for C++, and if there are any related design patterns. I have not ruled out Boost::Dataflow, I am just looking into any available alternatives so I can understand the domain and my options better (or roll my own if necessary).

  • Source of parsers for programming languages?

    - by Arkaaito
    I'm dusting off an old project of mine which calculates a number of simple metrics about large software projects. One of the metrics is the length of files/classes/methods. Currently my code "guesses" where class/method boundaries are based on a very crude algorithm (traverse the file, maintaining a "current depth" and adjusting it whenever you encounter unquoted brackets; when you return to the level a class or method began on, consider it exited). However, there are many problems with this procedure, and a "simple" way of detecting when your depth has changed is not always effective. To make this give accurate results, I need to use the canonical way (in each language) of detecting function definitions, class definitions and depth changes. This amounts to writing a simple parser to generate parse trees containing at least these elements for every language I want my project to be applicable to. Obviously parsers have been written for all these languages before, so it seems like I shouldn't have to duplicate that effort (even though writing parsers is fun). Is there some open-source project which collects ready-to-use parser libraries for a bunch of source languages? Or should I just be using ANTLR to make my own from scratch? (Note: I'd be delighted to port the project to another language to make use of a great existing resource, so if you know of one, it doesn't matter what language it's written in.)

  • How would you answer Joel's sample programming questions?

    - by Khorkrak
    I recently interviewed a candidate for a new position here. I wish though that I'd read Joel's Guerrilla Guide to Interviewing prior to that interview - naturally I happened upon it the night afterwards :P http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/GuerrillaInterviewing3.html So I tried answering the easy questions myself - yeah I used the python interpreter to type stuff in and tested the results a bit - I didn't look up any solutions beforehand though and I also thought about how long it took me to come up with answers for each one and what I'd look for the next time I interview someone. I'd let them type stuff into the interpreter and see how did used python's introspection capabilities too to find out things like what's the re module's method for building a regex etc. Here are my answers - these are in python of course - what are yours in your favourite language? Do you see any issues with the answers I came up with - i.e. how could they be improved upon - what did I miss? Joel's example questions: Write a function that determines if a string starts with an upper-case letter A-Z. import re upper_regex = re.compile("^[A-Z]") def starts_with_upper(text): return upper_regex.match(text) is not None Write a function that determines the area of a circle given the radius. from math import pi def area(radius): return pi * radius**2 Add up all the values in an array. sum([1, 2, 3, 4, 5]) Harder Question: Write an example of a recursive function - so how about the classic factorial one: def factorial(num): if num > 1: return num * factorial(num - 1) else: return 1
