And I've been wondering that my homepage page-rank is been also drop to 6 to 4 (Might be I am not sure). I am not using any supernatural SEO tools like SEOMOZ,Majesctic SEO etc. So it's quite difficult for me to ensure weather the page rank is been really affected or not. • What happens to an instance of ServerSocket blocked inside accept(), when I drop all references to i

  In a multithreaded Java application, I just tracked down a strange-looking bug, realizing that what seemed to be happening was this: one of my objects was storing a reference to an instance of ServerSocket on startup, one thread would, in its main loop in run(), call accept() on the socket while the socket was still waiting for a connection, another thread would try to restart the component under some conditions, the restart process missed the cleanup sequence before it reached the initialization sequence as a result, the reference to the socket was overwritten with a new instance, which then wasn't able to bind() anymore the socket which was blocking inside the accept() wasn't accessible anymore, leaving a complete shutdown and restart of the application as the only way to get rid of it. Which leaves me wondering: with no references left to the ServerSocket instance, what would free the socket for a new connection? At what point would the ServerSocket become garbage collected? In general, what are good practices I can follow to avoid this type of bug?

  Is there any method that is called or event that is dispatched right before an Element is cleaned up by the JavaScript garbage collector? In Perl I would write: package MyObj; sub new {bless {}} sub DESTROY {print "cleaning up @_\n"} and then later: { my $obj = MyObj->new; # do something with obj } # scope ends, and assuming there are no external references to $obj, # the DESTROY method will be called before the object's memory is freed My target platform is Firefox (and I have no need to support other browsers), so if there is only a Firefox specific way of doing this, that is fine. And a little background: I am writing the Perl module XUL::Gui which serves as a bridge between Perl and Firefox, and I am currently working on plugging a few memory leaks related to DOM Elements sticking around forever, even after they are gone and no more references remain on the Perl side. So I am looking for ways to either figure out when JavaScript Elements will be destroyed, or a way to force JavaScript to cleanup an object.

  Hi few days ago I formatted one of my computers (XP Home SP2 with prior updates installed). Now I am trying to install NET Framework 3.5, but display this error: [03/21/10,17:19:36] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 1603 [03/21/10,17:20:17] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed. Already i have tried this to try solve this issue, but the problem persists. 1.- unistall all frameworks and reinstall from scratch 2.- clean all temps file and reinstall from scratch 3.- unistall and clean all frameworks with dotnetfx cleanup tool and reinstall from scratch 4.- install .NET Framework 3.5 full package But all these possibles solutions have failed. Any idea to solve this? Thanks in advance

• Good tutorial resources for creating 2D character sprite?

  I am planning on learning how to create 2D character sprite by myself and making a game using RPG Maker VX Ace. I've been searching for the tutorial of making approx. 32x64 size human character sprite but haven't been able to find one close enough. Most tutorials I've found are either really general or creating sprites that are way too complicated. FYI I wish to learn how to make this type of characters by myself: not too complicated, fit for a small fan-made game made by RPG Maker. Ideally, I wish to learn from the stage of character sketch until realizing the character using photoshop or other kinds of tools (I have some foundations of visual art, it's just that I am not sure how to sketch a character this small). If you know of such tutorial resource please let me know -- thank you very much!

  I have a project that depends upon some other binaries to be downloaded from web at install time.For this what i do is: if ( file-present-in-src/) # skip that file else # use wget to download the file The problem with this approach is that when I interrupt a download in middle, and do invoke the script next time, the partially downloaded file is also skipped (which is not desired), also I want wget to resume the download of the partially downloaded file. How should I go about it: Possible Solutions I could think of: Let the file to be downloaded to some file say download_tmp. Copy to original file if successful. Handle SIG{'INT'} to write proper cleanup code. But none of these could help resume the partial file download, Any insights?

Is there a patten for handling the loading and the handling of such resources? For example: should I have a class that loads all the data and then call it everytime I need the data? As in: GraphicsHandler.instance().loadAllData() ...//and then later: draw(x,y, GraphicsHandler.instance().getData(WATER_IMAGE)) //or maybe draw(x,y, GraphicsHandler.instance().WATER_IMAGE) Or should I assign each resource to the class where it belongs? As in (for example, in a game): Graphics g = GraphicsLoader.load(CHAR01); Character c = new Character(..., g); ... c.draw(); Generally speaking which of these two is the more robust solution? • Apache FilesMatch regexp: Can it match by the cache buster 10 digit (rails generated) following the filename?

  According to the apache FilesMatch docs: The FilesMatch directive provides for access control by filename Basically, I only want to set an expires header for resources that have a 10 digit "cache buster" id appended to the name. So, here is my attempt at such a thing in my httpd.conf <FilesMatch "(jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css)\?\d{10}$"> ExpiresActive On ExpiresDefault "now plus 5 minutes" </FilesMatch> And here is an example of a resource I want to match: http://localhost:3000/images/of/elvis/eating-a-bacon-sandwich.png?1306277384 Now obviously my FilesMatch regexp is not matching so I am guessing 1 of 2 things is happening. Either my regexp is wonky or the '?1231231231' cache busting part of the file is not part of what apache considers part of the filename. Can anybody confirm and/or give me a way to cache only those resources that will not persist beyond the next deploy?

  How can I screen-capture an inactive (minimized / on another workspace) window in Ubuntu? Applications like ImageMagick's import are only able to capture active windows. When attempting to capture an inactive window, I get the following message: unable to read X window image `<id>': Resource temporarily unavailable @ error/xwindow.c/XImportImage/5023. Might be able to do this using Compiz, as it is able to render previews of inactive windows. Furthermore, in my specific case, the window I want to capture is run in a Wine Explorer-container. Inside that container the application is always active.

  What is the best way to do for example food growth based on how many food buildings you have? Lets say I have a webbased game where you can build a farm wich generates 60 food units per hour. A player has 1 farm in his possession. What is the best way to keep on producing these units even when the player is offline? Should I do the math when the player get's back online again? If so..how can I do this without having to save his last online time every 5 seconds so I can do some maths with it when he logs back in (datetime.now - lastonlinetime)? Next thing is when the player is online, should I refresh his resource count every 5 seconds or so by going to the database and back? This would seem weird to do for every logged on player.   When I open the src file in the project folder in Package Explorer in Eclipse, it says the following: Error retrieving content description for resource '/GuiAdd/src/GuiAdd.Java.' Now, the directories of the source projects shown in Eclipse Package explorer doesn't always have the source file to link to, causing this message. I need a way to sync the folders in the correct directory without overwriting the newest ones. Some source files I project files of the root which the Package explorer links to may be the correct versions but other source files in the root may not have the latest source or any source. I am not using svn/git or other depository programs.

Therefore, I am looking for information on what is useful to check before starting the game. As a simple example, Why check for a specific amount of memory? • Snapshot on, still deadlocks, ROWLOCK

  I turned snapshot isolation on in my database using the following code ALTER DATABASE MyDatabase SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON ALTER DATABASE MyDatabase SET READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT ON and got rid off lots of deadlocks. But my database still produces deadlocks, when I need to run a script every hour to clean up 100,000+ rows. Is there a way I can avoid deadlocks in my cleanup script, do I need to set ROWLOCK specifically in that query? Is there a way to increase the number of row level locks that a database uses? How are locks promoted? From row level to page level to table level? My delete script is rather simple: delete statvalue from statValue, (select dateadd(minute,-60, getdate()) as cutoff_date) cd where temporaryStat = 1 and entrydate < cutoff_date Right now I am looking for quick solution, but a long term solution would be even nicer.   I have read somewhere that ROA (Resource Oriented Architecture) is SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) with specific constraints added. SOA is the abstract term and that ROA is an implementation of SOA with all of the constraints of RESTful services (SOA = concept, ROA = concept + implementation details). I also had my share of posts saying that ROA is REST and that SOA is SOAP and going into the same more or less pertinent comparisons between the two (SOAP and REST that is) etc etc. So just to clear up my confusion: Is ROA a specific form of doing SOA?

  The best intentions were having me at perhaps posting more than twice a month, and here we are and … well it has been busy. There has been a lot of SharePoint 2010 already in this first number of weeks of the year, a good amount of TFS 2010, but even better working quite actively on two topics that I enjoy quite a bit … Windows Azure and Application Lifecycle Management.  And there is more to come around those two. Through the influencers program with Geekswithblogs and Discountasp.net I got access to a hosted TFS solution that I am currently testing and will be posting my findings and documenting a good amount of information on that process.
