• How mature is FreeBASIC?

  A friend of mine is considering using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment. They currently use GWBasic, and they want to make a soft transition towards more modern languages. I am just worried that there might be undetected bugs in the software. I see that their version number is 0.22.0, which indicates, that it is not quite mature yet. I also read this discussion, without being able to conclude. Also on their Sourceforge pages there is no indication of whether it is Alpha or Beta (which anyways is not a very good indicator). Does anyone have own experience about the maturity, ideas on how to judge the maturity, or know of companies using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment?

• Yet another GlassFish 3.1.1 promoted build

  Promoted build #9 for GlassFish 3.1.1 is available from the usual location. This is the "soft code freeze" build with only the "hard code freeze" build left before the release candidate. So if you have bugs you'd like to see fixed, voice your opinion *now*. As a quick reminder, GlassFish offers Web Profile or Full Platform distributions in ZIP or installer flavors (some more details in this blog post from last year but still relevant). If you've installed previous promoted builds or simply have the "dev" repository defined, then the Update Center will simply update the existing installed bits. In addition to the earlier update on 3.1.1 it's probably safe to say that this version was carefully designed to be highly compatible with the previous 3.x versions, thus leaving you with little reasons not to upgrade as soon as it comes out this summer.

  which is better for a new Linux user, Linux Mint or Alinux i had trouble getting Alinux to run after install Mint ran fine. We are also with the Tucson Refugee ministry and we have computers given to us all the time then we reload the OS clean it up then we give them to the refugee families. We need something that will run on older computers with 256 or 512m of ram, and i do not want to use Micro Soft Please help. PS is there any other Linux OS you would recommend??????   I try to accomplish an deforming physic behaviour for levelsurfaces, but don't get an idea how to start with the implemenation so far. Regardless of the shape from the surface (planes, cubes, spheres…), I want to have small indentations at the positions from game-entitys (players, enemys, objects…). It's kind of complicated to explain, so I illustrated what I'm talking about (here is an example with an sphere): So, the surfaces should be able to deforming themselfs a little bit (to apear like an really soft bed or sofa). My surfaces need probably an high vertices count to get an smooth deforming, but my big problem is the math for calculating this deforming… I'm programming in C/C++ with OpenGL, but will be fine with any advices in the right direction. Any help would be highly appreciated,

  I'm new to Linux. I installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my old Compaq/Hp Preario V3000 to replace Windows XP. Every thing works fine except I'm getting no wireless network options in the network drop down menu. I'm using a cable at the moment. Wirless chipset is: 05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01) 08:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation PRO/100 VE Network Connection (rev 02) I ran rfkill: 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no I also ran iwconfig and got this lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. In the additional drivers it says: "Using Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source from bcmwl-kernel-source (proprietary)" Any help to resolve the problem would be greatly appreciated.

• Windows 8 Install

  So did my first Windows 8 install today. Did it on a Macbook Pro (bootcamp partition). Bootcamp partition, needed to be formatted by Windows 8, in-order to proceed. However once done install went smoothly. Installed the Apple Windows Support stuff in compatibility mode; which went well. I tried it first not in compatibility mode and it caused a Blue Screen of death (which now has a :-( icon ) The volume, brightness etc. soft keys work well. I had some trouble joining wireless networks; so hopefully a windows update will resolve. First impression, is that 'its just like Windows 7', but with Metro. We'll see what happens over the next few days.

• Internet Connection Problems

  I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 onto a laptop. There is no list of automatic connections when I click on the internet connection symbol. Enable Wireless was unchecked, so I checked it. However, it continues saying "wireless is disabled." Soft is blocked, and when I tried rfkill unblock wifi it told me that the device was not ready. I tried to counter this with what I found on this thread but nothing worked. I have tried manually entering my Wireless information, but this does not help. Is there a solution?

• Failed GRUB after 10.04 to 12.04 upgrade in system with LVM

  I am using Ubuntu Server as a SMB server at work and two days ago I have tried to upgrade it to 12.04. After reboot, I got this grub_xput missing grub rescue> and all attempts to start from this prompt failed (missing components, although grub directory is normally set as prefix). My system sits and boots on an LVM (soft raid-5). I have read almost all posts in many forums, tried grub rescue, boot-repair, ubuntu-secure-remix with boot-repair but without positive result. This is the log of my last (and best so far) attempt to fix this system. Any suggestions? Please help.

• wireless not working, but wired does

  First of all I'm new to Ubuntu, just bought a laptop with Ubuntu yesterday. I disable wireless networking in the upper right corner, and I don't have option to enable it back. I tried a lot of things and none is seems to work: I installed Wicd network manger, and it says no wireless network found, but i assure you there are several of them as my smart tv can detect them. when I type rfkill list, I get this: 0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no when I type ifconfig wlan0, I get this: wlan0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

• Wireless will not work in fresh ubuntu 12.04 lts installation

  I did a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 install on my Sony Vaio laptop, which worked perfectly with 10.04. Now my wireless won't work. I have read just about every Q&A on the subject and I have tried different solutions, including the official troubleshooting guides. My laptop is equipped with a Intel 5100 wireless device. Ubuntu recognizes the device and it's status is given as connected in nm-tool. I can ping the gateway, my own IP number and localhost. Rfkill shows no soft or hard blocks. Any ideas? I am just a few hours shy of reinstalling good old 10.04! Taake

• Cannot get laptop wifi to work in ubuntu 12.4

  Hi i have a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4106 laptop and i recently installed ubuntu 12.4 on it and i cannot get the wifi to connect for the life of me. When i tried ubuntu out before installing it, the wifi worked while windows was still installed on it. Then i installed ubuntu and now there is no wifi. I can't even flip the wifi network switch to the on position. I installed the driver from realtek for the linux driver and still nothing. Doing rfkill list all shows soft blocked: no and hard blocked: yes. Can anyone help me :p haha very frusterating. It probably is something very dumb. Thanks

• NetBeans 7.0.1 now in RC

The NetBeans team has released the NetBeans IDE 7.0.1 RC 1 which will bring full compatibility with JDK 7 as well as GlassFish 3.1.1 support (this particular RC ships with the soft code freeze build of GlassFish 3.1.1). This 7.0.1 RC 1release also includes numerous bugfixes and performance improvements across all areas and is available from the usual download page and the final version of NetBeans IDE 7.0.1 is expected in late July (once JDK 7 has shipped would be an educated guess). Note that if you're an existing NetBeans 7.0 user you'll be offered with updates to your existing install via the Update Center once 7.0.1 final ships.

  I'm a newbie. I can't figure out how and where to call ResignFirstResponder to get rid of the keyboard when the user finished entering the text in an UITextField. I'm a bit confused by the UIResponder class. Mono documentation says: "To dismiss the keyboard, send the UIResponder.ResignFirstResponder message to the text field that is currently the first responder." How to do so? Can someone post a simple working example? There are many examples in Obj-C but none in C#. Many thanks.

  I have a couple of columns in jqGrid with edittype="select". How can I read the option value of the value currently selected in a particular row? e.g.: When I provide the following option, how do I get "FE" for FedEx, etc. editoption: { value: “FE:FedEx; IN:InTime; TN:TNT” } getRowData() for the rowId/cellname returns only the text/displayed component of the select. If I set a "change" data event on the column, the underlying fires change events only on mouse clicks, and not keyboard selects (there's numerous references to generic selects and mouse/keyboard issues). Bottomline, when a new value is selected, I need to know the option value at the time of the change, and also prior to posting to the server.

• Confluence or apache on win server 2008 cant find scripts and images :(

  I am a newbie to both Tomcat and Apache. I have set the virtual hosts as described in Here. And JIRA works fine when i browse the URL jira.agmlab.com. However when i try to access Confluence(3.4.5) with confluence.agmlab.com the pages come in plain html, i can login and browse pages but there is no css or js so that my confluence pages look very ugly. what can possibly cause this and how to fix this? here is my virtual hosts definitions : # # Virtual Hosts # # If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Can it be something related with the permissions defined in Win Server 2008 ? maybe there is not enough rights (such as read execute ) in some users, directories ??

  So I bit into the hype and recently purchased an apple wireless keyboard and that evil bar-of-soap thing apple makes for a mouse. Couple of hundred dollars later and this is where I begin to worry about RSI. Go figure. Don't get me wrong, this apple mouse is genius and looks pretty as hell, but my right wrist feels tired after a full day's worth of work, so i'm thinking of switching. Anyone out there use a trackball? is this worse? should I get a super-ergonomic mouse instead? I've seen mouse-trackball combos but am not sold, they still elicit the same end-finger behaviour detrimental for RSI, right? I also have a wrist-rest mousepad, but couldn't find one suitable for my keyboard. I've even considered having a small touchscreen where the mousepad should go, no mouse (or alternatively, a usb trackpad). Just looking for ideas, is the trackball better than the mouse? /mp

• Focus In An ItemsControl

  I have an ItemsControl that uses a DataTemplate. The DataTemplate contains a TextBox, which can receive keyboard focus. I need to be able to move the keyboard focus from the currently focused TextBox in the DataTemplate to the next TextBox, as if the Tab key has been pressed. I've noticed that there is a UIElement.MoveFocus() method, but this begs the question as to which UIElement should be used to call the method. This is probably the reason why I haven't gotten this method to work for me... Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

However, the output is: <input id="user_email" name="user[email]" placeholder="[email protected]" size="30" type="text" /> which should be: <input id="user_email" name="user[email]" placeholder="[email protected]" size="30" type="email" /> Is there a way to force Rails to use the email type instead of text, or must I use HTML directly?   Hi, When an UITextField is firstResponder, I would like to bring to front an UIDatePicker (bottom part of the screen) without the "going down keyboard" (no call to UITextField resignFirstResponder). The aim is to process like UIKeyboard of UITextField which pop-up on nearly everything when it becomeFirstResponder. modalViewController seems to be fullscreen only. - showDatePicker:(id)sender { if([taskName isFirstResponder]) [taskName resignFirstResponder]; [self.view.window addSubview: self.pickerView]; // size up the picker view and compute the start/end frame origin (...) [UIView commitAnimations]; } This example is an animation of keyboard going down, and DatePicker going up, behind and not in front. Do you know a solution ? A piece of code would be welcome. There are no standard control from the API and the box is smart enough to resize when you press enter OR when the text is too long. Also the bar resizes with it. How is this done with the least coding? 2) How to code it such that when the keyboard shows up the whole view shifts up? Typically when the keyboard shows, it goes over your current view.

• Calling SetWindowsHookEx inside VS2008 debugger always returns NULL

  we're working on a .Net application that does a low level keyboard hook. When we call the SetWindowsHookEx running inside the debugger the call always fail. When running from the compiled executable everything works fine. If we attach to the processs the the SetWindowsHookEx has been called everything works too. I've read somewhere (I can not remember) that VS already does a low level keyboard hook but this shouldn't be a problem as there is the CallNextHook function. Someone knows what's happening? EDIT: The code is pretty straigfoward, the exception is thrown inside debugger but not outside.
