  • Help! Problem dual boot ubuntu windows8 (can't start ubuntu) [duplicate]

I know about boot repairing, but how can I use it, If i cant boot ubuntu?? I heard about terrible problems with windows 8-linux dual boot, but I really need ubuntu because of school. I read many tutorials how to install ubuntu next to windows8, but despite that a problem accured. Here is what I have done. I have MSI GE60, windows(64bit) is running on mSATA SSD C drive. HDD is divided to two partitions for windows and I left there 50GB for ubuntu. I downloaded ubuntu 12.04.3desktop-amd64(64bit), created bootable USB using Universal USB Installer (recommended on Ubuntu site). I disabled USB legacy support (that Ubuntu could be installed in EFI mode- I was following instructions on Ubuntu site), and also Secure Boot (windows is now angry with me because I turned it off- when I start windows it informs me I should enable that). I inserted USB rebooted computer and chose install ubuntu, divided free 50GB space to swap(2000MB) and rest as ext4 main storage space for ubuntu. Installation passed normally, Ubuntu then asked me to reboot computer. After reboot windows 8 started. Now I can't start ubuntu. When I restart win8 to uefi there is possibility to boot ubuntu, but when I choose it, it crashes. When I choose try ubunfu from connected USB, nothing happend, still dark screed. What is wrong? Can you help me? I am in hurry to do it because of school. Thanks.

Example: The dongle get's recognized by the Windows 7 device manager as a HID-compliant device, so it's properly connected. Does anyone have an idea how to make Virtual PC recognize the dongle?   • Can I copy my Windows recovery partition to a usb and boot from it?

    Of course it's not quite this easy, but are there steps for doing this sort of thing? It's a long story but I was dual-booting linux and had a system meltdown of sorts. As such, my Windows bootloader has been erased and I cannot boot into that OS. I do, however, have a linux live-usb through which I have access to my drives. Is there anyway to make use of this recovery partition and boot from itto re-install Windows?

    I bought an iPhone in China, where it is manufactured without Wifi. (I would have to switch carriers to sign up for a data plan as my current Chinese carrier doesn't support surfing either... if possible I want to avoid getting yet another card though.) Can I somehow surf with the iPhone Safari while USB-connected to my net-enabled laptop? Thanks!

  • Virtualbox for Mac OS X - using an external USB drive, which filesystem is ideal?

    Assuming that I am NOT going to add NTFS drivers that allow read+write of NTFS partitions, I was wondering if the choice of filesystem when I partition an external USB drive matters. The choices appear to be HFS+ vs. FAT32. For the time being, I simply created two half-sized paritions, one of each type. :) I plan to run various versions of Windows, and keep the VirtualBox files on the external drive.

    I had to format a USB hard drive to ext3 to use it with a Linksys nas box. Now I can't read the hd when I unplug it from the nas and plug it directly into my Windows 7 computer. (The computer accesses the nas over a wireless connection, so I like to plug the hd directly into my pc when transferring large files.) How can I leave the hd formatted with ext3 and yet be able to access it (read/write) when I plug it directly into my pc?

  • Wired connection not being recognized

    I'm on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). I've read a few threads regarding wired connection problems, but haven't found a solution yet. The problem appears after I connect to a wireless network. When I disconnect wireless and plug in an internet cable, the wired connection is not recognized at all. Even the socket appears dead (there are no diodes flashing). The only solution so far seems to be restarting the computer. Network Manager then tries to connect to a Wi-Fi, but the wired connection is listed and working. I've tried sudo restart network-manager, but that doesn't solve anything. After a while, available wireless networks start appearing, but the wired still doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.     Centos 6 recognises and configures a HP LaserJet P3015dn printer connected via USB. This machine is being configured as a small group file/print server. I can print a test page, which is processed/printed correctly. The next time printing is attempted (say printing a second test page), the page is not printed and the printer is set to disabled.
