• Delay of mail delivery - Hosted exchange provider

  Hi, I recently signed up to a new hosted email provider. When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below. Is there anything I can advise my new email host to do? My previous email host delivers within 5 seconds!!   Does anybody know a few details about signed software and /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app? I didn't find more at Wikipedia (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Installer_%28Mac_OS_X%29) and the UNIX-Manual (man 8 installer). I have here a valid signature from iLife 11 Installer.app (http://i.imgur.com/Y3raY.jpg). Does this mean I can be 100% sure that nothing is modified? It means I can trust this PKG because signed by Apple? Or did I get something wrong?

• Fast user switching is logging users off instead of switching users

  I have a netbook running Windows 8.1 Pro that will no longer allow more than one user to be logged in at the same time. The steps necessary to reproduce this are as follows: The current user presses WIN to bring up the start screen. The user clicks his name in the corner and a list of other users appears. As soon as one of the other names is clicked, the user is unceremoniously logged off without any prompts. This behavior seems to have started some time after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. Before that point, everything worked fine and more than one user could be logged in at the same time. I've tried searching for others experiencing similar problems but this appears to be unique. I have the following accounts: root, daemon, bin, sys, sync, games, man, lp, mail, news, uucp, proxy, www-data backup, list, irc, gnats, nobody, libuuid, syslog, messagebus, whoopsie, mandscape, sshd, eric Except root, sshd and eric, which ones should I not disable? • How to Shutdown PC by Pressing Power Button without asking "Force Close"?

  I always Hibernate my PC. Sometimes when I boot, it does not recognize the mouse/keyboard or any USB devices. I've also setup it to go in sleep in 5 minutes. In that case I can't restart the PC so that USB starts working. When I press the Power button then it starts shutdown but asks confirmation twice, one is for shutdown by force confirmation and then there is one more. When my USB is disabled I can't input these options. So I switch off the power.   When playing a BluRay movie on a PC (any OS, Mac/Win/Linux), I have some questions about audio output: When playing a BluRay disc on the PC using a BluRay player program, can it decode the multichannel (7.1) LPCM/ Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD / DTS-HDMA soundtracks in their HD formats (ie, without downmixing to Dolby Digital or DTS or PCM) and output the audio directly to the soundcard's 7.1 line-level analog outputs? Is it possible to bitstream the the multichannel (7.1) LPCM/ Dolby Digital Plus / Dolby TrueHD / DTS-HD / DTS-HDMA soundtracks in their HD formats (ie, without downmixing to Dolby Digital or DTS or PCM) over the HDMI output to a receiver when using a BluRay player program? I'd kinda like to know. I'm contemplating building a home theater PC, and the above functionality is important. I'd prefer that #1 is possible, actually, because it would mean I wouldn't have to buy a receiver.

• taskmgr.exe 100% CPU Usage

  Hi. I have 2 IBM servers Intel Xeon Dual core with 2gb RAM. the problem is that Taskmanager uses one full core when i open it. The same happens when i copy files in the explorer. OS: Windows 2003 Server Things i tried: Installed all updates They has kaspersky anti virus and they previously had Nod32. All drivers installed OK. All unused devices are disabled in the bios. Reinstalled win 2003 SP2. No conflict in drivers Tried opening via remote desktop and the problem continues. • Avast Antivirus downloading data from net even when told not to update.

  Hi all, This is a strange problem that I have never seen before. I have two machines, both running Win 7 and running the latest version of Avast, both seem to be downloading large amounts of data. I noticed it when we were using more data for our monthly limit then normal, 2gb+ in a couple of days when really only browsing. I installed NetLimiter and let it run for couple of hours and this is the result for the avast! Service (c:\program files\alwil software\avast5\avastsvc.exe ). The other computer downloaded twice as much data in the same amount of time. Both installs of avast have their automatic updates (turned off at 4:00pm), for both program and definitions. Does anyone know what might be going on here.

• Wireless networking on Gnome on Ubuntu 9 / 10

  So here's my problem: I have some netbooks (ASUS eee, and ACER Aspire Ones) that I've been tasked to set up as kiosk machines, locked up tight for normal users. I am a command-line, server man, so this gnome malarkey is all a bit new to me. I found a lovely 9.04 kiosk livecd that installs and runs exactly as I want it to, but I can't get the wireless working. So I dropped on a full 10.4 distro, and wireless works straight out of the box (so hardware is good) - all I needed to do was right-click on the network connection icon, enter my SSID and password (WPA/WPA2) and away it went, perfect. Further investigation on 10.4 distro shows that /etc/networking/interfaces is virtually empty (just auto lo iface lo inet loopback in it), even after I have set up the wireless thru the gnome taskbar applet (is that the right word?). So where does gnome / ubuntu store the network settings to bring the blasted wireless connection up, and what do I need to do on the kiosk version to get wireless running?

• USB hard drive doesn't graceful power off after eject on Windows 7

  I have a couple of Seagate FreeAgent Go external USB hard drives and would like them to gracefully power off after ejecting in Windows 7. With Windows XP a few seconds after they are ejected they gracefully power off. When ejecting them on Windows 7 they just stay on and have to be physically disconnected before they lose power. I have checked the hard drive removal policy and it is set to quick removal. I have also looked in the Seagate forums but I couldn't find any info on this so I thought I'd ask the SuperUser community on any ideas why the difference and how to get the same behaviour in Windows 7 as in XP? Update: I am finding that this also happens with USB thumb drives as well. My current theory is that there were changes to the driver model with Vista/Win 7 that haven't been reflected in the device drivers yet. So things that worked under XP don't under Win7 as the drivers haven't been updated for the new model. Does that sound right?

• Samba 3.3 or later on Slackware 12 - how do I make this happen?

  I'm trying to upgrade the Samba server on a Slackware 12 box to serve as PDC for Windows 7 32bit machines (it now has a 3.0.3 and does the job for Win XP machines, but 7 refuses to join the domain - I'm posting this after having tried a few dozen hacks on the windows registry). I'm a newbie on Slackware (I usually dwell in Ubuntu) so I may be going about this the wrong way but this is what I've done so far: The Samba wiki has a couple of hacks for the registry and also seems to suggest a version later than 3.3 (though not in so many words) http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7 Having scoured the net for later Samba binaries for Slackware 12 and gotten precisely nowhere, I decided that maybe I could compile the blessed thing. But I keep on getting compiler errors. I'm using this SlackBuild script http://ftp.twaren.net/Linux/slackware/slackware-current/source/n/samba/samba.SlackBuild Is there a better way to make this happen? (without upgrading the base system? it has so many finely tuned things running that I don't want to mess with the rest of the setup).

• PHP oci8 dll not loading on windows 64 bit XP. What am I doing wrong?

  on win 64, I installed apache, php etc. Everything works fine, except the oracle part. I can connect to oracle from sql developer which means my tnsnames.ora file is correct. When apache starts, there are no errors in the logs. But when I try to connect to oracle from my database, oracle module php_oci8.dll is not loaded. What am I doing wrong? The oci8.dll line in php.ini is there, it is uncommented There are no errors in the apache logs extension_dir in php.ini file points to the correct location

  I discovered that on large/huge fonts ClearType does have a negative impact. Just take a look at http://patterns.dataincubator.org/book/ page (check title with huge fonts versus normal text). If you are on Windows 7 you can use Win+Plus/Minus to zoom in/out. I'm looking for a configuration that would make both small fonts and large fonts look well. The system is Windows 7 but I suppose you could replicate the problem on Vista and even XP if you activate ClearType. Current results: ClearType on and tunned - small fonts looking good and large one looking bad ClearType off - small fonts looking bad and large one looking ok (smoothed)

• How to force Chrome to make bookmarks the priority for auto-complete in the address bar?

  As it is right now, if I start typing, for instance, "dictionary" into the address bar, Chrome immediately returns a list of bookmarks, history, and related sites. However, the first and highlighted option is to search Google for "dictionary". I want Chrome to immediately recognize that I have a bookmark specifically named "Dictionary" that links to the site www.dictionary.com. But, that's the second choice, not the first. So I have to type a few letters, get auto-complete to suggest some sites, then key down to my bookmark item before pressing Enter. How annoying. Any way to cut the middle man and make my bookmark the top result?

• Laptop Akku defekt? [closed]

  Ich habe ein großes Problem und zwar startet mein Laptop akku: akku Dell Inspiron 9400 Gut, dann machte ich ihn aber sofort "aus", ich klappte ihn eben zu, was heißt Energie sparen, er ist nicht heruntergefahren! Eine halbe Stunde später wollte mein Vater noch ran, er war dann auch ca. 5min und dann fuhr der Laptop wie gewöhnlich, wwenn er kein Akku mehr hat, heerunter. Dann wollten wir den Laptop wieder aufladen, doch es brannte nicht einmal die rote LED, was soviel heißt wie der Akku wird geladen. Und der Laptop (übrigens erst 7 Monate alt) kann man nicht startet! Nun meine Frage, hat das was mit dem Aufladekabel zu tun( dort brennt immer noch die grüne Lampe, was soviel heißt, wie dass aufjedenfall von der Seckdose Strom kommt) oder ist etwas am Laptop, bzw. ist er kaputt?

  I'm trying to implement dns service discovery in my application (no, I'm not asking for a programmatic answer). What I believe is one of my big pain points is generating the query. I know I need to send out a multicast broadcast on port 5353 and want to look for devices of type _ipp._tcp and _print._tcp, but I don't know what the question section needs to look like. For example, in SSDP I sent out a query that looks like the following: "M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1\r\n" "HOST: 239.255.255.250:1900\r\n" + "MAN: \"ssdp:discover\"\r\n" "ST: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:Printer:1\r\n" "MX: 5000\r\n\r\n" From what I know about a DNS query I need to send something like: "_ipp.tcp,all,all" but I know there needs to be more. Any pointers to documentation, etc would be greatly appreciated! update rfc1035 appears to contain promising information re the message structure.

  i'm a total newbie on windows failover clustering. and what i want to do now is to setup the FC (failover clustering) on two win 2008 R2 server. and right now i have my custom window service running on both machine. But they cannot run concurrently as it will mess up the DB, thus i just want one to be available at all time (high availability). so i'm wondering if there's any way to set the failover policy to include this custom window service that i've installed on these machines so that if this service goes down or die, then it will automatically trigger the failover to the second node. is this possible? or must it be done programatically? and if so what is the best way? thanks ~m

• MS Word - Keeps requesting user to save Normal template

  We have Small Business Server 2008 setup on a couple of our clients networks and we have the following issue. Whenever they logon, Microsoft word automatically opens and requests them to save their changes to the template 'Normal'. It constantly happens, we have a mixture of Win 2000 and XP machines and it seems to happen more often on XP than 2000. Any idea why this might be happening and how we can resolve it, it's just frustrating for the end users. PS: This is happening on Office 2000 and Office 2003.

• Cannot boot to HDD or Optical when Motherboard in AHCI mode

  I have an Abit AB9 QuadGT motherboard and am trying to swap over to AHCI mode. I have an existing Windows 7 installation which was installed under IDE mode. I have set the msahci registry setting to 0. When I try to boot in AHCI mode I get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I have tried booting with my Win 7 DVD in the optical drive. There is 1 SSD (System), 1 HDD (Data) and 2 optical drives connected via SATA If I switch back to IDE mode everything boots fine, either from the SSD or from a CD or DVD in the optical drive. Why can't I use AHCI mode?

  Hi, I had a win xp with an NTFS partion for programs (c:) and I installed ubuntu 10.10 on it. I will use ubuntu from now on. On the disk there was a space for the NTFS partition and free space. I created in the free space a new linux partition. So the new linux partition is a ext3. now from ubuntu I used the disk utility and saw that the windows is marked as free space. I had only one possibility, which is to create a partition, so I did as NTFS. I did NOT format it. I don't care about the windows system, I just need to access the program files folder on that partition and get my chrome bookmarks. I forgot to save them before the installation of linux. do you think it is possible? if so how? thanks.
