• iPhone SDK Programming - Working with a variable across 2 views

  I have what I hope is a fairly simple question about using the value from a variable across 2 views. I’m new to the iPhone SDK platform and the Model/View/Controller methodology. I’ve got background in VB.Net, some Php, but mostly SQL, so this is new ground for me. I’m building an app that has 3 views. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll call them View1, View2, View3. On View1 I have an NSString variable that I’ve declared in View1.h, and synthesized in View1.m. I’ll call it String1. View1.m uses a UITextField to ask the user for their name and then sets the value of String1 to that name (i.e. "Bill"). I would now like to use the value of String1 in View2. I'm not doing anything other than displaying the value ("Bill"), in a UILabel object in View2. Can someone tell me what the easiest way to accomplish that is? Many thanks in advance….

• Error in Android's clearCheck() for RadioGroup?

  I'm having an issue with RadioGroup's clearChecked(). I'm displaying a multiple choice question to the user and after the user selects an answer I check the answer, give him some feedback and then move to the next question. In the process of moving to the next question I clearCheck on the RadioGroup. Can anyone explain to me why the onCheckedChanged method is called 3 times? Once when the change actually occurs (with the user changes), once when I clearCheck(with -1 as the selected id) and once in between (with the user changes again)? As far as I could tell the second trigger is provoked by clearCheck. • Dismiss android activity displayed as Popup

  So i have a service, that starts an activity displayed as a Popup thank's to "android:style/Theme.Dialog" This Activity shows a Listview, with a list of application. On each element of the listview, there is a short description of the application, and two buttons. 1 for launching the application 2 for displaying a toast with more informations. Here is the code in my service : it starts the activity Intent intent = new Intent(this, PopUpActivity.class); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_DEBUG_LOG_RESOLUTION); intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); getApplicationContext().startActivity(intent); this activity uses a custom layout, with a listview, adapted with a custom ArrayAdapter In this adaptater, i've put an action on the start button in order to start the current application Button lanceur = (Button) v.findViewById(R.id.Buttonlancer); lanceur.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { p.start(mcontext); } }); with p.start, i start the application. But now, if i press "back" from the application, i go back to the popup... and i can start another application. I don't want it to be possible. That's why i wish i could dismiss/destroy/finish my PopupActivity, but i can't manage to do it with the code i have.

Note that the format starts with DAY followed by MONTH. When I switch to edit mode, change the date in the TextBox to '31-01-2013' and press the GridView's update-link i get an error: Cannot convert value of parameter 'dtDateStart' from 'System.String' to 'System.DateTime' The error is generated by the GridView not my own code. It happens before the UpdateMethod of my DataSource is called. When i type '01-31-2012' the data is processed correctly and the value is updated into the database. Somehow when the date is displayed it uses format dd-MM-yyyy (just as I need it to) But when it reads the new value form the TextBox it uses MM-dd-yyyy Can somebody please help me?

• Implementation help... Subclass NSManagedObject?

  I'm working on an app where I have some products that I download in a list. The downloaded products are displayed in a table and each will is showing a detail view with more information. These same products can be saved as a favorite, and for this I am using Core Data. I'd like to be able to re-use a bunch of views for displaying the products, which means the stores object and the downloaded object would have to be the same kind. Now, how would I go about best implementing the objects? Can I make a class such as this: FavoriteProduct : NSManageObject // implementation and then subclass Product : FavoriteProduct // implementation ? The CD class just doesn't give me everything. What would be the best way to merge these two object classes so I have as little work ahead of me in terms of implementing the different views for each object? Basically, I just want to be able to call the same methods, etc. on the Product objects as I would on the ones that are FavoriteProduct objects, and re-use views for both kinds. There's only a bit of difference between the two (one is of course stored as a favorite and has some extra values such as notes, tags, while the Product one doesn't). Thanks in advance

In a for loop, I create the layouts with their textViews, and set only the first one to be visible. The problem is that only one TextView seems to be displaying, ie. if everything but summary is deleted, then summary will display. As of right now, only title will display, because i'm assuming it's the first one. I'm most likely doing it wrong, so any help would be appreciated.

• iFrame in a Content Editor Web Part

  Hi - I'm creating a page with two web parts: one with a search UI and another that displays the results. I'm using Content Editor Web Parts for both, but no matter how hard I try I can't seem to display more than a fraction of the results page in the content editor web part with the iFrame. The width seems to set fine, but no matter how I set the height (I've tried in-line, using CSS and using Javascript/JQuery), I cannot change the height of what is displayed. If I make the height something ridiculous like 3000px, I can see the empty space below, but it still only shows a small amount of the resulting page at the top of this iframe section. I've observed the HTML and the iFrame takes up all the space it's supposed to, but only shows that small sliver of the actual page the iFrame is displaying. I've tried numerous approaches from numerous articles but have come up short (pun intended). Does anyone have any experience with this or have indication as to why it would display this way or what I have to do to make this iFrame fill up the entire web part space? Thanks in advance

• One-to-many Associations Empty Columns Issue (Ext on Rails)

  I'm playing with rewriting part of a web application in Rails + Ext. However, I'm having trouble getting an associated models' name to display in the grid view. I've been able to successfully convert several models and arrange the views nicely using tabs and Ext's layout helpers. However, I'm in the middle of setting up an association -- I've followed along with Jon Barket's tutorial on how to do this using Ext -- and I've made all the Rails and JS changes suggested (with appropriate name changes for my models,) the result being that the combo box is now being correctly populated with the names of the associated models, and changes are actually written correctly to database, BUT the data doesn't show up in the column, it's just empty. However, the correct data is there in the 'detail' view. Really just wondering if anyone else ran into this, or had any thoughts on what could be happening. Definitely willing to post code if requested; just note that (AFAIK) my changes follow the tutorial pretty closely. Thanks in advance! UPDATE: Alright, slight progress - kind of. I can get the associated model id # displaying properly -- just by modifying the column model slightly. But I can't get the virtual attribute displayed in the main table (in Jon's example it's country_name.) It still goes blank when I change the data source for that column from dataIndex: 'model[associated_model_id]' to dataIndex: 'virtual_attributes[associated_model_name]' ANOTHER UPDATE: Bump. Has NOBODY here tried integrating Ext with Rails?

• Programmatically Update UITableView in Response to Button Press

  I have a completely custom view that holds a UITableView and a Custom Tab Bar (basically a UIView that contains 6 UIButtons). I am loading data from a plist file, and then I am sorting the data into multiple arrays based on categories (an array for misc items, and array for mail items, etc.) Each button in the tab bar represents a category, and when I press the button I call the custom function "miscSelected" and so on. How can I have the table view completely reload and then display the tableview based on the array selected (select the misc category and the tableview clears itself and loads the misc array data, same for any other category)? The method I have experimented with is created and NSString named "selection" and then in each button function I set selected to equal whatever section I am selecting. In my cellForRoxAtIndexPath method I have this: if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"All Items"]) { NSArray *mainDataArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; NSSortDescriptor *brandDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"name" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:brandDescriptor]; self.sortedData = [mainDataArray sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; } else if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"Misc Items"]){ self.sortedData = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; } cell.itemTitle.text = [[self.sortedData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"name"]; For the sake of example and testing I am simply displaying the same data, just one button displays it in alphabetical order and the other does not. • Disabling Text field with Javascript when value in drop down box is from mysql

  Hi I have a simple script in HTML, using a dropdown menu. When the value 1 is selected, the user can write in the text field, if value 2 is selected, it disables the text field. However, i changed the values of the dropdown menu, so that one value was from a mysql table(using PHP) and the other remained 'option value='1''. Yet now neither text field is disabled. • Page Entirely Blank Despite Having Source Code! (TinyMCE, FireFox)

  Alright guys, here's a tough one... In reference to this page. The page will seemingly randomly not display the output of server when using Firefox (version 3.5). I have not seen this problem occur in Safari or IE. The best way to have the problem occur is just reload the page about 10 times and it ought to have happened by then, and once it does - it'll continue on subsequent refreshes until you change the page. The problem is literally the browser not displaying the output (code). Viewing the source shows all the appropriate code yet the browser displays a blank white page. The web developer and firebug plugins don't show any errors that would indicate the problem. I have tested this on a separate system and OS and it occurs in Firefox on that system as well. The problem did not occur until after TinyMCE (A Rich Text Editor JavaScript library for textareas) was added to the project. TinyMCE works however, where it should. I know this is a confusing problem, but I am completely lost as to what could be causing this significant issue. Thanks in advance. EDIT: If it's any help... I've noticed that if I cause a css file error by changing a stylesheet source to something non-existant (xxx.css), the page will continuously display without a problem (besides whatever related css not showing due to the src change). I've also noticed that causing any simple javascript error with some bad code will cause the page to load properly continuously (besides of course javascript not running on the page). EDIT#2: Moving all <script> tags down at the tail of the <body> 'fixes' (well, hides) this error and the page shows normally. A band-aid.

• jQuery Mobile page overrides desktop HTML div layout

  I'd like to use jQuery mobile on my desktop page. I'm probably thinking of this wrongly, but I tried simply inserting a page element into an existing standard div, like this: <body> <div id="left_sidebar"> [...] </div> <div id="mylist" data-role="page"> <div data-role="listview"> [list items bla bla] </div> </div> <div id="right_sidebar"> [...] </div> <div id="site_footer"> (c) bla blub </div> </body> ...hoping that only the middle part displays the "mobile" page elements. However, that page div seems to override the entire site and turns the whole body into a mobile page (albeit displaying my listview item nicely... across the entire screen). Any idea what to do? Advice is much appreciated.

• Calculating collission for a moving circle, without overlapping the boundaries

  Let's say I have circle bouncing around inside a rectangular area. At some point this circle will collide with one of the surfaces of the rectangle and reflect back. The usual way I'd do this would be to let the circle overlap that boundary and then reflect the velocity vector. The fact that the circle actually overlaps the boundary isn't usually a problem, nor really noticeable at low velocity. At high velocity it becomes quite clear that the circle is doing something it shouldn't. What I'd like to do is to programmitically take reflection into account and place the circle at it's proper position before displaying it on the screen. This means that I have to calculate the point where it hits the boundary between it's current position and it's future position -- rather than calculating it's new position and then checking if it has hit the boundary. This is a little bit more complicated than the usual circle/rectangle collission problem. I have a vague idea of how I should do it -- basically create a bounding rectangle between the current position and the new position, which brings up a slew of problems of it's own (Since the rectangle is rotated according to the direction of the circle's velocity). However, I'm thinking that this is a common problem, and that a common solution already exists. Is there a common solution to this kind of problem? Perhaps some basic theories which I should look into?

• Div's are not filtered as :hidden when display:none; is appended as style

I have jQuery code to toggle between displaying these, but I need to store as a cookie which one was used last time the user was logged in (i.e. which one was visible). The storing of the cookie is not the problem. The problem is that I for some reason am not able to detect which one is the hidden one, using .is(":hidden"), and not able to detect which one is visible using .is(":visible") When I use those two selectors, I always get both. "true" and "true" for both, eventhough one has display: none; and the other doesn't. Please note that they are NOT placed inside a hidden container which otherwise would hide both, so there are not any hidden ancestor containers. • C++ gdb GUI

  Briefly: Does anyone know of a GUI for gdb that brings it on par or close to the feature set you get in the more recent version of Visual C++? In detail: As someone who has spent a lot of time programming in Windows, one of the larger stumbling blocks I've found whenever I have to code C++ in Linux is that debugging anything using commandline gdb takes me several times longer than it does in Visual Studio, and it does not seem to be getting better with practice. Some things are just easier or faster to express graphically. Specifically, I'm looking for a GUI that: Handles all the basics like stepping over & into code, watch variables and breakpoints Understands and can display the contents of complex & nested C++ data types Doesn't get confused by and preferably can intelligently step through templated code and data structures while displaying relevant information such as the parameter types Can handle threaded applications and switch between different threads to step through or view the state of Can handle attaching to an already-started process or reading a core dump, in addition to starting the program up in gdb If such a program does not exist, then I'd like to hear about experiences people have had with programs that meet at least some of the bullet points. Does anyone have any recommendations? Edit: Listing out the possibilities is great, and I'll take what I can get, but it would be even more helpful if you could include in your responses: (a) Whether or not you've actually used this GUI and if so, what positive/negative feedback you have about it. (b) If you know, which of the above-mentioned features are/aren't supported Lists are easy to come by, sites like this are great because you can get an idea of people's personal experiences with applications.

• Save a tab in a jQuery Modal Window for future Display

  Hello, long time reader, first time poster. I’m coming with an issue that many of you will find trivial but I’m bashing my head against it for too long time and I can’t seems to find any clue on the internet. As a total scrubs with JavaScript, I’m trying to use JQuery.ui smartmodal windows (v 1.8.rc1) for displaying two football teams in two separate tabs. Like France in Tab(0) and England in Tab(1). When I open this modal window, the first tab (France) is always opened by default. Everything’s fine until here : I’m trying to improve this modal window by remembering what was the last Tab the user was looking when he closed the modal, for reopening it (in spite of the first tab, by default) when the user will reopen this modal latter on. • Need help getting buttons to work...

  I am trying to get my first button to update a display number in my view when clicked. This view will have several buttons and "outputs" displayed. After reading examples and Q's here, I finally put something together that runs, but my first button is still not working; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.ship_layout); mSwitcher = (TextSwitcher) findViewById(R.id.eng_val); } private TextSwitcher mSwitcher; // Will be connected with the buttons via XML void onClick(View v){ switch (v.getId()) { case R.id.engplus: engcounter++; updateCounter(); break; case R.id.engneg: engcounter--; updateCounter(); break; } } private void updateCounter() { mSwitcher.setText(String.valueOf(engcounter)); } The .xml for this button is; <TextSwitcher android:id="@+id/eng_val" android:visibility="visible" android:paddingTop="9px" android:paddingLeft="50px" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_below="@+id/build" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/engeq" android:textColor="#DD00ff00" android:textSize="24sp"/> This is within a Relative Layout that appears otherwise OK. When I had set the view to have a TextView with the number set as a string , the number displayed, but I could not figure out how to update the text with a numerical field. That may be my real problem. I have gone through many examples generally referenced from the dev. site (UI, Common Tasks, various samples), and I am still not seeing the connection here... Again, this is simply a try at getting variables to respond to buttons and update on the view. So, a few Q's for anyone that can help; 1) Is there any easier way of doing this (ie. send numerical value to View) ? 2) Why isn't my TextSwitcher displaying the number? 3) Should I be using a TextSwitcher here? 4) Any examples of this you can point me to?

• Variable won't store in session

  So I'm trying to store the "rank" of a user when they log in to a control panel which displays different options depending on the given rank. I used the same method as I did for storing and displaying the username, which is displayed on the top of each page and works just fine. I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't work for the rank value, but I do know that it is not saving it in the session. • Drupal 6: Creating "ON/OFF News Links" functionality for a block created with View Module.

  Hi friends, I'm a drupal newbie who needs some advice... I have a news list block at homepage, created with View Module. It is listing all added news' title and link. Everything is cool so far. Now I need to add an ON/OFF option at admin side for homepage news block. When the setting is ON, it will work as it is. When it is OFF, only the titles will be listed with no linking to news detail page. So, now where should I add this ON/OFF option? I have only add/edit/delete pages for each news, there is no common news page to add such option. Should I create an admin page with such ON/OFF option in? Also I think I need to create a db table to keep this ON/OFF status. and controlling this value at homepage block, if it is 1 or 0, and displaying links according to db value :/ it looks too long way Create db table Create an page with ON/OFF option in add php codes to update db for admin's choice get the db value in homepage block to display links, etc. is there any shorter, better way to do what I need?
