  • DataTrigger inside ControlTemplate doesn't update

    - by kennethkryger
    I have a ListBox that is bound to a list of CustomerViewModel-objects, that each has two dependency properties: - Name (string) - Description (string) - IsVisible (bool) (the IsVisible property is True by default and is reversed via the ToggleVisibility Command on the CustomerViewModel) I would like to display the Name and Description to the right of a Border-control, that is has a Transparent background when the IsVisible property is True and Green when the False. My problem is that the DataTrigger part of the code below doesn't work the way I want, because the Setter-part isn't triggered when the IsVisible is changed. What am I doing wrong? Here's my code: <UserControl.Resources> <Style x:Key="ListBoxStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ListBox}"> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="-1,-1,0,0" /> <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="ItemContainerStyle" Value="{DynamicResource ListboxItemStyle}" /> <Setter Property="ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility" Value="Disabled" /> </Style> <Style x:Key="ListboxItemStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="FocusVisualStyle" Value="{x:Null}" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Grid> <Border x:Name="border" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="#FFD4D6D5" BorderThickness="0,0,0,1"> <Grid Height="70" Margin="0,0,10,0"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="10" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition Height="10" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Border x:Name="visibilityColumn" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Grid.RowSpan="4" Background="Transparent" Width="4" Margin="0,0,4,0" /> <TextBlock x:Name="customerName" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Foreground="#FF191919" FontWeight="Bold" Text="{Binding Name}" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Text="{Binding Description}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFB4B4B4" TextTrimming="CharacterEllipsis" /> </Grid> <Border.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Edit..." /> <MenuItem Header="Visible" IsCheckable="True" IsChecked="{Binding IsVisible}" Command="{Binding ToggleVisibility}"/> </ContextMenu> </Border.ContextMenu> </Border> </Grid> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFEEEEEE" /> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFF5F5F5" /> <Setter TargetName="customerName" Property="Foreground" Value="Green" /> </Trigger> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding IsVisible}" Value="False"> <!--If Value="True" the customerName Border shows up green!--> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Green" /> </DataTrigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </UserControl.Resources> <ListBox Style="{StaticResource ListBoxStyle}" ItemsSource="{Binding CustomerViewModels}" />

  • jQuery dynamic field classes not being assigned as desired.

    - by Simon
    Hello, I'm working on a fancy login page with 4 unique states attributed through classes for each field (normal, focus, active-on, active-off). Normal is the default style. Focus is the focus style when nothing is typed. Active-on is the focus style when something has been typed. Active-off is for field that have user text in them, but are not focused right now. Here's a demo to help you understand what I'm doing: http://www.controlstack.com/login My JS is working almost correctly (thanks to some folks on this site), except in 2 cases: If I enter something in the username field, then tab over to the password field, it does not add the ".focus" class to the password field. If I blur out of the username field, then focus back on it, enter a few characters, then delete them, it does not add the ".focus" field. Here's my code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" dir="ltr"> <head> <title>Login</title> <style> input.field {height: 39px; width: 194px; background: url(login-fields.png) no-repeat; overflow: hidden; border: none; outline: none; float: left; margin-right: 7px;} input.field#username {padding: 0 12px;} input.field#username.focus {background-position: 0 -39px;} input.field#username.active-on {background-position: 0 -78px;} input.field#username.active-off {background-position: 0 -117px;} input.field#password {background-position: -218px 0; padding: 0 12px;} input.field#password.focus {background-position: -218px -39px;} input.field#password.active-on {background-position: -218px -78px;} input.field#password.active-off {background-position: -218px -117px;} input.field#go {background-position: -436px 0; width: 88px; margin: 0; cursor: pointer;} </style> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { loginField = $('.field'); firstField = $('.field.first'); firstField.focus(); loginField.focus(function(){ loginVal1 = loginField.val(); if (!loginVal1){ $(this).removeClass('active-off').addClass('focus'); } else { $(this).removeClass('active-off').addClass('active-on'); } }); loginField.live('keydown', function(){ $(this).addClass('active-on').removeClass('active-off'); }).live('keyup', function(){ $(this).toggleClass('active-on', $(this).val() != ''); }) loginField.blur(function(){ loginVal2 = loginField.val(); if (!loginVal2){ $(this).removeClass('focus').removeClass('active-on'); $(this).val(''); } else { $(this).removeClass('focus').removeClass('active-on').addClass('active-off'); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <h1>Login to your account</h1> <form method="post" action="/"> <fieldset> <input type="text" class="field first focus" id="username" /> <input type="text" class="field" id="password" /> <input type="submit" value="" class="field" id="go" alt="login" title="login" /> </fieldset> </form> </body> </html> Your help is much appreciated!

  • can you simlify and generalize this useful jQuery function?

    - by user199368
    Hi, I'm doing an eshop with goods displayed as "tiles" in grid as usual. I just want to use various sizes of tiles and make sure (via jQuery) there are no free spaces. In basic situation, I have a 960px wrapper and want to use 240x180px (class .grid_4) tiles and 480x360px (class .grid_8) tiles. See image (imagine no margins/paddings there): Problems without jQuery: - when the CMS provides the big tile as 6th, there would be a free space under the 5th one - when the CMS provides the big tile as 7th, there would be a free space under 5th and 6th - when the CMS provides the big tile as 8th, it would shift to next line, leaving position no.8 free My solution so far looks like this: $(".grid_8").each(function(){ //console.log("BIG on position "+($(this).index()+1)+" which is "+(($(this).index()+1)%2?"ODD":"EVEN")); switch (($(this).index()+1)%4) { case 1: // nothing needed //console.log("case 1"); break; case 2: //need to shift one position and wrap into 240px div //console.log("case 2"); $(this).insertAfter($(this).next()); //swaps this with next $(this).prevAll(":nth(0), :nth(1)").wrapAll("<div class=\"grid_4\" />"); break; case 3: //need to shift two positions and wrap into 480px div //console.log("case 3"); $(this).prevAll(":nth(0), :nth(1)").wrapAll("<div class=\"grid_4\" />"); //wraps previous two - forcing them into column $(this).nextAll(":nth(0), :nth(1)").wrapAll("<div class=\"grid_4\" />"); //wraps next two - forcing them into column $(this).insertAfter($(this).next()); //moves behind the second column break; case 0: //need to shift one position //console.log("case 4"); $(this).insertAfter($(this).next()); //console.log("shifted to next line"); break; } }); It should be obvious from the comments how it works - generally always makes sure that the big tile is on odd position (count of preceding small tiles is even) by shifting one position back if needed. Also small tiles to the left from the big one need to be wrapped in another div so that they appear in column rather than row. Now finally the questions: how to generalize the function so that I can use even more tile dimensions like 720x360 (3x2), 480x540 (2x3), etc.? is there a way to simplify the function? I need to make sure that big tile counts as a multiple of small tiles when checking the actual position. Because using index() on the tile on position 12 (last tile in 3rd row) would now return 7 (position 8) because tiles on positions 5 and 9 are wrapped together in one culumn and the big tile is also just a single div, but spans 2x2 positions. any clean way to ensure this? Thank you very much for any hints. Feel free to reuse the code, I think it can be useful. Josef

  • CSS selector driving me nuts!!!

    - by YsoL8
    Apoologies in advance for the slightly long winded code in this question @charset "UTF-8"; /* CSS Document */ * { margin:0; padding:0; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } #wrapper { width:900px; margin:0 auto 0 auto; } #header { background-color:#800080; width:894px; min-height:60px; padding-top:6px; padding-left:6px; } #header img { margin-left:200px; margin-top:10px; } #headerleft { float:left; } #header h2 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:36px; /*float:left;*/ } #header h3 { font-family:Arial Black, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#ffff00; font-size:14px; } #nav { background-color:#800080; width:100%; min-height:30px; } #nav ul { padding-left:7px; padding-right:7px; } #nav li { list-style:none; display:inline; padding:5px 44px 5px 44px; } #nav li a { color:#FFF; text-decoration:none; } #nav li a:hover { color:#ffff00; } #leftcol { background-color:#800080; width:125px; min-height:30px; float:left; } #leftcol img { margin-left:20px; margin-bottom:20px; } .content { padding:20px 10px 10px 20px; float:left; } <!-- admin classes --> .pageselect p { color:#C90; } #rightcol { /*background-color:#800080;*/ width:160px; min-height:330px; float:right; } .righthead { margin-top:7px; background-image:url(../images/rightcol-head.png); color:#FFF; padding: 5px 20px 5px 20px; font-size:14px; } .rightmid { background-image:url(../images/right-mid.jpg); padding: 5px 10px 5px 10px; font-size:14px; } .rightfoot { background-image:url(../images/right-foot.jpg); background-repeat:no-repeat; } .clear { clear:both; } #footer { background-color:#800080; width:880px; min-height:30px; margin-top:-20px; padding-top:30px; padding-left:20px; padding-bottom:10px; } #footer p { color:#ffff00; } #footer p a { color:#ffff00; text-decoration:none; } #footer p a:hover { font-weight:bold; } .error { color:#C30; } I have the above stylesheet. I am attempting to style the following element (taken from firefox web developer tools): html > body > div#wrapper > div#leftright > div.content > div.pageselect To my mind .pageselect should be the selector to do that, but I seem to be powerless to influence the style, and its just about sending me wacko! Why won't this work?

  • How to stop OpenGL from applying blending to certain content? (see pics)

    - by RexOnRoids
    Supporting Info: I use cocos2d to draw a sprite (graph background) on the screen (z:-1). I then use cocos2d to draw lines/points (z:0) on top of the background -- and make some calls to OpenGL blending functions before the drawing to SMOOTH out the lines. Problem: The problem is that: aside from producing smooth lines/points, calling these OpenGL blending functions seems to "degrade" the underlying sprite (graph background). As you can see from the images below, the "degraded" background seems to be made darker and less sharp in Case 2. So there is a tradeoff: I can either have (Case 1) a nice background and choppy lines/points, or I can have (Case 2) nice smooth lines/points and a degraded background. But obviously I need both. THE QUESTION: How do I set OpenGL so as to only apply the blending to the layer with the Lines/Points in it and thus leave the background alone? The Code: I have included code of the draw() method of the CCLayer for both cases explained above. As you can see, the code producing the difference between Case 1 and Case 2 seems to be 1 or 2 lines involving OpenGL Blending. Case 1 -- MainScene.h (CCLayer): -(void)draw{ int lastPointX = 0; int lastPointY = 0; GLfloat colorMAX = 255.0f; GLfloat valR; GLfloat valG; GLfloat valB; if([self.myGraphManager ready]){ valR = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valG = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valB = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[self.myGraphManager.currentCanvas graphPoints] objectEnumerator]; GraphPoint* object; while ((object = [enumerator nextObject])) { if(object.filled){ /*Commenting out the following two lines induces a problem of making it impossible to have smooth lines/points, but has merit in that it does not degrade the background sprite.*/ //glEnable (GL_BLEND); //glBlendFunc (GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); glHint (GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_DONT_CARE); glEnable (GL_LINE_SMOOTH); glLineWidth(1.5f); glColor4f(valR, valG, valB, 1.0); ccDrawLine(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY), ccp(object.position.x, object.position.y)); lastPointX = object.position.x; lastPointY = object.position.y; glPointSize(3.0f); glEnable(GL_POINT_SMOOTH); glHint(GL_POINT_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_NICEST); ccDrawPoint(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY)); } } } } Case 2 -- MainScene.h (CCLayer): -(void)draw{ int lastPointX = 0; int lastPointY = 0; GLfloat colorMAX = 255.0f; GLfloat valR; GLfloat valG; GLfloat valB; if([self.myGraphManager ready]){ valR = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valG = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; valB = (255.0f/colorMAX)*1.0f; NSEnumerator *enumerator = [[self.myGraphManager.currentCanvas graphPoints] objectEnumerator]; GraphPoint* object; while ((object = [enumerator nextObject])) { if(object.filled){ /*Enabling the following two lines gives nice smooth lines/points, but has a problem in that it degrades the background sprite.*/ glEnable (GL_BLEND); glBlendFunc (GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA); glHint (GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_DONT_CARE); glEnable (GL_LINE_SMOOTH); glLineWidth(1.5f); glColor4f(valR, valG, valB, 1.0); ccDrawLine(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY), ccp(object.position.x, object.position.y)); lastPointX = object.position.x; lastPointY = object.position.y; glPointSize(3.0f); glEnable(GL_POINT_SMOOTH); glHint(GL_POINT_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_NICEST); ccDrawPoint(ccp(lastPointX, lastPointY)); } } } }

  • android Xml-List view with filter

    - by harisali
    Hi, android is new for me. I am trying to develop a program on 1.5 platform but still in progress, plz guide me. I have some information in following format "item1","description1" "item2","description2" "item3","description3" "item4","description4" . . . . I want to show them on screen, I dont know which is recommended way to do this. After google I found 2 method. but I failed to successfully implement any of one. Method 1 I break both columns data into 2 different arrays, then populate listactivity with array of column 1, enable filter & on clicked event I want to raise alert which should show Text clicked in tilte & desc from 2nd array as msg body based on position. But here is problem if using filter index becomes reinitialize :-(, and there didnot find another way to get text of that row. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); //setContentView(R.layout.main); setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, Names)); getListView().setTextFilterEnabled(true); } public void onListItemClick(ListView parent, View v, int position, long id) { Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder.setTitle(Names[position]); builder.setMessage(description[position] + " -> " + position ); builder.setPositiveButton("ok", null); builder.show(); } <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/hello" /> </LinearLayout> its not picking right item from position if filter used :-(, plz guide Can you share source code of this Method B Here I tried to generate list row from XML , but giving error that 1.5 jar file didnot allow modification :-( public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { /* ViewInflate inflater=context.getViewInflate(); View row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.row, null, null); */ View row = (View) convertView; if (row==null) { LayoutInflater inflater=context.getLayoutInflater(); // LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); row = inflater.inflate(R.layout.row,null); } TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.label); label.setText(items[position]); TextView description=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.description); description.setText(items[position]); // ImageView icon=(ImageView)row.findViewById(R.id.icon); // icon.setImageResource(R.drawable.delete); return(row); } Plz suggest what is a right way to acconplish this, so app can show desc of item , has filter too. Plz share If you have any shouce code for this

  • Why does my TextBox with custom control template not have a visible text cursor?

    - by Philipp Schmid
    I have a custom control template which is set via the style property on a TextBox. The visual poperties are set correctly, even typing to the textbox works, but there is no insertion cursor (the | symbol) visible which makes editing challenging for our users. How does the control template need changing to get the traditional TextBox behavior back? <Style x:Key="DemandEditStyle" TargetType="TextBox"> <EventSetter Event="LostFocus" Handler="DemandLostFocus" /> <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Stretch" /> <Setter Property="VerticalAlignment" Value="Stretch" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate> <Grid HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="1" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.Background> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <GradientStop Color="White" Offset="0" /> <GradientStop Color="White" Offset="0.15" /> <GradientStop Color="#EEE" Offset="1" /> </LinearGradientBrush> </Grid.Background> <Border Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" Background="Black" /> <Border Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Grid.RowSpan="2" Background="Black" /> <Grid Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Margin="2"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="1" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="1" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="1" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Border Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="3" Background="Black" /> <Border Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Grid.RowSpan="3" Background="Black" /> <Border Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Grid.ColumnSpan="3" Background="#CCC" /> <Border Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="2" Grid.RowSpan="3" Background="#CCC" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" TextAlignment="Right" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Padding="3 0 3 0" Background="Yellow" Text="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Text}" Width="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type Grid}, AncestorLevel=1}, Path=ActualWidth}" /> </Grid> </Grid> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> Update: Replacing the inner-most TextBox with a ScrollViewer and naming it PART_ContentHost indeed shows the text insertion cursor. Trying to right-align the text in the TextBox by either setting the HorizontalContentAlignment in the Style or as a property on the ScrollViewer were unsuccessful. Suggestions?

  • SQL: Using a CASE Statement to update a 1000 rows at once, how??

    - by SoLoGHoST
    Ok, I would like to use a CASE STATEMENT for this, but I am lost with this. Basically, I need to update a ton of rows, but just on the "position" column. I need to update all "position" values from 0 - count(position) for each id_layout_position column per id_layout column. Here's what I got for a regular update, but I don't wanna throw this into a foreach loop, as it would take forever to do it. I'm using SMF (Simple Machines Forums), so it might look a little different, but the idea is the same, and CASE statements are supported... $smcFunc['db_query']('', ' UPDATE {db_prefix}dp_positions SET position = {int:position} WHERE id_layout_position = {int:id_layout_position} AND id_layout = {int:id_layout}', array( 'position' => $position++, 'id_layout_position' => (int) $id_layout_position, 'id_layout' => (int) $id_layout, ) ); Anyways, I need to apply some sort of CASE on this so that I can auto-increment by 1 all values that it finds and update to the next possible value. I know I'm doing this wrong, even in this QUERY. But I'm totally lost when it comes to CASES. Here's an example of a CASE being used within SMF, so you can see this and hopefully relate: $conditions = ''; foreach ($postgroups as $id => $min_posts) { $conditions .= ' WHEN posts >= ' . $min_posts . (!empty($lastMin) ? ' AND posts <= ' . $lastMin : '') . ' THEN ' . $id; $lastMin = $min_posts; } // A big fat CASE WHEN... END is faster than a zillion UPDATE's ;). $smcFunc['db_query']('', ' UPDATE {db_prefix}members SET id_post_group = CASE ' . $conditions . ' ELSE 0 END' . ($parameter1 != null ? ' WHERE ' . (is_array($parameter1) ? 'id_member IN ({array_int:members})' : 'id_member = {int:members}') : ''), array( 'members' => $parameter1, ) ); Before I do the update, I actually have a SELECT which throws everything I need into arrays like so: $disabled_sections = array(); $positions = array(); while ($row = $smcFunc['db_fetch_assoc']($request)) { if (!isset($disabled_sections[$row['id_group']][$row['id_layout']])) $disabled_sections[$row['id_group']][$row['id_layout']] = array( 'info' => $module_info[$name], 'id_layout_position' => $row['id_layout_position'] ); // Increment the positions... if (!is_null($row['position'])) { if (!isset($positions[$row['id_layout']][$row['id_layout_position']])) $positions[$row['id_layout']][$row['id_layout_position']] = 1; else $positions[$row['id_layout']][$row['id_layout_position']]++; } else $positions[$row['id_layout']][$row['id_layout_position']] = 0; } Thanks, I know if anyone can help me here it's definitely you guys and gals... Anyways, here is my question: How do I use a CASE statement in the first code example, so that I can update all of the rows in the position column from 0 - total # of rows found, that have that id_layout value and that id_layout_position value, and continue this for all different id_layout values in that table? Can I use the arrays above somehow? I'm sure I'll have to use the id_layout and id_layout_position values for this right? But how can I do this?

  • How do I implement SkyBox in xna 4.0 Reach Profile (for Windows Phone 7)?

    - by Biny
    I'm trying to Implement SkyBox in my phone game. Most of the samples in the web are for HiDef profile, and they are using custom effects (that not supported on Windows Phone). I've tried to follow this guide. But for some reason my SkyBox is not rendered. This is my SkyBox class: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics; using Rocuna.Core; using Rocuna.GameEngine.Graphics; using Rocuna.GameEngine.Graphics.Components; namespace Rocuna.GameEngine.Extension.WP7.Graphics { /// <summary> /// Sky box element for phone games. /// </summary> public class SkyBox : SkyBoxBase { /// <summary> /// Initializes a new instance of the <see cref="SkyBoxBase"/> class. /// </summary> /// <param name="game">The Game that the game component should be attached to.</param> public SkyBox(TextureCube cube, Game game) : base(game) { Cube = cube; CubeFaces = new Texture2D[6]; PositionOffset = new Vector3(20, 20, 20); CreateGraphic(512); StripTexturesFromCube(); InitializeData(Game.GraphicsDevice); } #region Properties /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the position offset. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The position offset. /// </value> public Vector3 PositionOffset { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the position. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The position. /// </value> public Vector3 Position { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the cube. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The cube. /// </value> public TextureCube Cube { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the pixel array. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The pixel array. /// </value> public Color[] PixelArray { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the cube faces. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The cube faces. /// </value> public Texture2D[] CubeFaces { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the vertex buffer. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The vertex buffer. /// </value> public VertexBuffer VertexBuffer { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the index buffer. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The index buffer. /// </value> public IndexBuffer IndexBuffer { get; set; } /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the effect. /// </summary> /// <value> /// The effect. /// </value> public BasicEffect Effect { get; set; } #endregion protected override void LoadContent() { } public override void Update(GameTime gameTime) { var camera = Game.GetService<GraphicManager>().CurrentCamera; this.Position = camera.Position + PositionOffset; base.Update(gameTime); } public override void Draw(GameTime gameTime) { DrawOrder = int.MaxValue; var graphics = Effect.GraphicsDevice; graphics.DepthStencilState = new DepthStencilState() { DepthBufferEnable = false }; graphics.RasterizerState = new RasterizerState() { CullMode = CullMode.None }; graphics.BlendState = new BlendState(); graphics.SamplerStates[0] = SamplerState.AnisotropicClamp; graphics.SetVertexBuffer(VertexBuffer); graphics.Indices = IndexBuffer; Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[0]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 0, 2); Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[1]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 6, 2); Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[2]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 12, 2); Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[3]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 18, 2); Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[4]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 24, 2); Effect.Texture = CubeFaces[5]; Effect.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); graphics.DrawIndexedPrimitives(PrimitiveType.TriangleList, 0, 0, _vertices.Count, 30, 2); base.Draw(gameTime); } #region Fields private List<VertexPositionNormalTexture> _vertices = new List<VertexPositionNormalTexture>(); private List<ushort> _indices = new List<ushort>(); #endregion #region Private methods private void InitializeData(GraphicsDevice graphicsDevice) { VertexBuffer = new VertexBuffer(graphicsDevice, typeof(VertexPositionNormalTexture), _vertices.Count, BufferUsage.None); VertexBuffer.SetData<VertexPositionNormalTexture>(_vertices.ToArray()); // Create an index buffer, and copy our index data into it.   • Strange WPF ListBox Behavior

    - by uncle-harvey
    I’m trying to bind a List of items to a listbox in WPF. The items are grouped by one value and each group is to be housed in an expander. Everything works fine when I don’t use any custom styles. However, when I use custom styles (which work properly with non-grouped items and as independent controls) the binding doesn’t display any items. Below is the code I’m executing. Any ideas why the items won’t show up in the Expander? Test.xaml: <Window x:Class="Glossy.Test" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Test" Height="300" Width="300"> • Get data from MySQL to Android application

    - by Mona
    I want to get data from MySQL database using PHP and display it in Android activity. I code it and pass JSON Array but there is a problem i dont know how to connect to server and my all database is on local server. I code it Kindly tell me where i go wrong so I can get exact results. I'll be very thankful to you. My PHP code is: <?php $response = array(); require_once __DIR__ . '/db_connect.php'; $db = new DB_CONNECT(); if (isset($_GET["cid"])) { $cid = $_GET['cid']; // get a product from products table $result = mysql_query("SELECT *FROM my_task WHERE cid = $cid"); if (!empty($result)) { // check for empty result if (mysql_num_rows($result) > 0) { $result = mysql_fetch_array($result); $task = array(); $task["cid"] = $result["cid"]; $task["cus_name"] = $result["cus_name"]; $task["contact_number"] = $result["contact_number"]; $task["ticket_no"] = $result["ticket_no"]; $task["task_detail"] = $result["task_detail"]; // success $response["success"] = 1; // user node $response["task"] = array(); array_push($response["my_task"], $task); // echoing JSON response echo json_encode($response); } else { // no task found $response["success"] = 0; $response["message"] = "No product found"; // echo no users JSON echo json_encode($response); } } else { // no task found $response["success"] = 0; $response["message"] = "No product found"; echo json_encode($response); } } else { $response["success"] = 0; $response["message"] = "Required field(s) is missing"; // echoing JSON response echo json_encode($response);} ?> My Android code is: public class My_Task extends Activity { TextView cus_name_txt, contact_no_txt, ticket_no_txt, task_detail_txt; EditText attend_by_txtbx, cus_name_txtbx, contact_no_txtbx, ticket_no_txtbx, task_detail_txtbx; Button btnSave; Button btnDelete; String cid; // Progress Dialog private ProgressDialog tDialog; // Creating JSON Parser object JSONParser jParser = new JSONParser(); ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>> my_taskList; // single task url private static final String url_read_mytask = "http://198.168.0.29/mobile/read_My_Task.php"; // url to update product private static final String url_update_mytask = "http://198.168.0.29/mobile/update_mytask.php"; // url to delete product private static final String url_delete_mytask = "http://198.168.0.29/mobile/delete_mytask.php"; // JSON Node names private static String TAG_SUCCESS = "success"; private static String TAG_MYTASK = "my_task"; private static String TAG_CID = "cid"; private static String TAG_NAME = "cus_name"; private static String TAG_CONTACT = "contact_number"; private static String TAG_TICKET = "ticket_no"; private static String TAG_TASKDETAIL = "task_detail"; private static String attend_by_txt; // task JSONArray JSONArray my_task = null; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.my_task); cus_name_txt = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.cus_name_txt); contact_no_txt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.contact_no_txt); ticket_no_txt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.ticket_no_txt); task_detail_txt = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.task_detail_txt); attend_by_txtbx = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.attend_by_txt); attend_by_txtbx.setText(My_Task.attend_by_txt); Spinner severity = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.severity_spinner); // Create an ArrayAdapter using the string array and a default spinner layout ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter3 = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource(this, R.array.Severity_array, android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line); // Specify the layout to use when the list of choices appears adapter3.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); // Apply the adapter to the spinner severity.setAdapter(adapter3); // save button btnSave = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnSave); btnDelete = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnDelete); // getting product details from intent Intent i = getIntent(); // getting product id (pid) from intent cid = i.getStringExtra(TAG_CID); // Getting complete product details in background thread new GetProductDetails().execute(); // save button click event btnSave.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View arg0) { // starting background task to update product new SaveProductDetails().execute(); } }); // Delete button click event btnDelete.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View arg0) { // deleting product in background thread new DeleteProduct().execute(); } }); } /** * Background Async Task to Get complete product details * */ class GetProductDetails extends AsyncTask<String, String, String> { /** * Before starting background thread Show Progress Dialog * */ @Override protected void onPreExecute() { super.onPreExecute(); tDialog = new ProgressDialog(My_Task.this); tDialog.setMessage("Loading task details.   • Parallelism in .NET – Part 15, Making Tasks Run: The TaskScheduler

    - by Reed
    In my introduction to the Task class, I specifically made mention that the Task class does not directly provide it’s own execution.  In addition, I made a strong point that the Task class itself is not directly related to threads or multithreading.  Rather, the Task class is used to implement our decomposition of tasks.  Once we’ve implemented our tasks, we need to execute them.  In the Task Parallel Library, the execution of Tasks is handled via an instance of the TaskScheduler class. The TaskScheduler class is an abstract class which provides a single function: it schedules the tasks and executes them within an appropriate context.  This class is the class which actually runs individual Task instances.  The .NET Framework provides two (internal) implementations of the TaskScheduler class. Since a Task, based on our decomposition, should be a self-contained piece of code, parallel execution makes sense when executing tasks.  The default implementation of the TaskScheduler class, and the one most often used, is based on the ThreadPool.  This can be retrieved via the TaskScheduler.Default property, and is, by default, what is used when we just start a Task instance with Task.Start(). Normally, when a Task is started by the default TaskScheduler, the task will be treated as a single work item, and run on a ThreadPool thread.  This pools tasks, and provides Task instances all of the advantages of the ThreadPool, including thread pooling for reduced resource usage, and an upper cap on the number of work items.  In addition, .NET 4 brings us a much improved thread pool, providing work stealing and reduced locking within the thread pool queues.  By using the default TaskScheduler, our Tasks are run asynchronously on the ThreadPool. There is one notable exception to my above statements when using the default TaskScheduler.  If a Task is created with the TaskCreationOptions set to TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning, the default TaskScheduler will generate a new thread for that Task, at least in the current implementation.  This is useful for Tasks which will persist for most of the lifetime of your application, since it prevents your Task from starving the ThreadPool of one of it’s work threads. The Task Parallel Library provides one other implementation of the TaskScheduler class.  In addition to providing a way to schedule tasks on the ThreadPool, the framework allows you to create a TaskScheduler which works within a specified SynchronizationContext.  This scheduler can be retrieved within a thread that provides a valid SynchronizationContext by calling the TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext() method. This implementation of TaskScheduler is intended for use with user interface development.  Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Foundation both require any access to user interface controls to occur on the same thread that created the control.  For example, if you want to set the text within a Windows Forms TextBox, and you’re working on a background thread, that UI call must be marshaled back onto the UI thread.  The most common way this is handled depends on the framework being used.  In Windows Forms, Control.Invoke or Control.BeginInvoke is most often used.  In WPF, the equivelent calls are Dispatcher.Invoke or Dispatcher.BeginInvoke. As an example, say we’re working on a background thread, and we want to update a TextBlock in our user interface with a status label.  The code would typically look something like: // Within background thread work... string status = GetUpdatedStatus(); Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(DispatcherPriority.Normal, new Action( () => { statusLabel.Text = status; })); // Continue on in background method .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } This works fine, but forces your method to take a dependency on WPF or Windows Forms.  There is an alternative option, however.  Both Windows Forms and WPF, when initialized, setup a SynchronizationContext in their thread, which is available on the UI thread via the SynchronizationContext.Current property.  This context is used by classes such as BackgroundWorker to marshal calls back onto the UI thread in a framework-agnostic manner. The Task Parallel Library provides the same functionality via the TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext() method.  When setting up our Tasks, as long as we’re working on the UI thread, we can construct a TaskScheduler via: TaskScheduler uiScheduler = TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext(); We then can use this scheduler on any thread to marshal data back onto the UI thread.  For example, our code above can then be rewritten as: string status = GetUpdatedStatus(); (new Task(() => { statusLabel.Text = status; })) .Start(uiScheduler); // Continue on in background method This is nice since it allows us to write code that isn’t tied to Windows Forms or WPF, but is still fully functional with those technologies.  I’ll discuss even more uses for the SynchronizationContext based TaskScheduler when I demonstrate task continuations, but even without continuations, this is a very useful construct. In addition to the two implementations provided by the Task Parallel Library, it is possible to implement your own TaskScheduler.  The ParallelExtensionsExtras project within the Samples for Parallel Programming provides nine sample TaskScheduler implementations.  These include schedulers which restrict the maximum number of concurrent tasks, run tasks on a single threaded apartment thread, use a new thread per task, and more.

  • Launching a WPF Window in a Separate Thread, Part 1

    - by Reed
    Typically, I strongly recommend keeping the user interface within an application’s main thread, and using multiple threads to move the actual “work” into background threads.  However, there are rare times when creating a separate, dedicated thread for a Window can be beneficial.  This is even acknowledged in the MSDN samples, such as the Multiple Windows, Multiple Threads sample.  However, doing this correctly is difficult.  Even the referenced MSDN sample has major flaws, and will fail horribly in certain scenarios.  To ease this, I wrote a small class that alleviates some of the difficulties involved. The MSDN Multiple Windows, Multiple Threads Sample shows how to launch a new thread with a WPF Window, and will work in most cases.  The sample code (commented and slightly modified) works out to the following: // Create a thread Thread newWindowThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart( () => { // Create and show the Window Window1 tempWindow = new Window1(); tempWindow.Show(); // Start the Dispatcher Processing System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.Run(); })); // Set the apartment state newWindowThread.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA); // Make the thread a background thread newWindowThread.IsBackground = true; // Start the thread newWindowThread.Start(); .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; background-color: #ffffff; /*white-space: pre;*/ } .csharpcode pre { margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .rem { color: #008000; } .csharpcode .kwrd { color: #0000ff; } .csharpcode .str { color: #006080; } .csharpcode .op { color: #0000c0; } .csharpcode .preproc { color: #cc6633; } .csharpcode .asp { background-color: #ffff00; } .csharpcode .html { color: #800000; } .csharpcode .attr { color: #ff0000; } .csharpcode .alt { background-color: #f4f4f4; width: 100%; margin: 0em; } .csharpcode .lnum { color: #606060; } This sample creates a thread, marks it as single threaded apartment state, and starts the Dispatcher on that thread. That is the minimum requirements to get a Window displaying and handling messages correctly, but, unfortunately, has some serious flaws. The first issue – the created thread will run continuously until the application shuts down, given the code in the sample.  The problem is that the ThreadStart delegate used ends with running the Dispatcher.  However, nothing ever stops the Dispatcher processing.  The thread was created as a Background thread, which prevents it from keeping the application alive, but the Dispatcher will continue to pump dispatcher frames until the application shuts down. In order to fix this, we need to call Dispatcher.InvokeShutdown after the Window is closed.  This would require modifying the above sample to subscribe to the Window’s Closed event, and, at that point, shutdown the Dispatcher: // Create a thread Thread newWindowThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart( () => { Window1 tempWindow = new Window1(); // When the window closes, shut down the dispatcher tempWindow.Closed += (s,e) => Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher.BeginInvokeShutdown(DispatcherPriority.Background); tempWindow.Show(); // Start the Dispatcher Processing System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.Run(); })); // Setup and start thread as before This eliminates the first issue.  Now, when the Window is closed, the new thread’s Dispatcher will shut itself down, which in turn will cause the thread to complete. The above code will work correctly for most situations.  However, there is still a potential problem which could arise depending on the content of the Window1 class.  This is particularly nasty, as the code could easily work for most windows, but fail on others. The problem is, at the point where the Window is constructed, there is no active SynchronizationContext.  This is unlikely to be a problem in most cases, but is an absolute requirement if there is code within the constructor of Window1 which relies on a context being in place. While this sounds like an edge case, it’s fairly common.  For example, if a BackgroundWorker is started within the constructor, or a TaskScheduler is built using TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext() with the expectation of synchronizing work to the UI thread, an exception will be raised at some point.  Both of these classes rely on the existence of a proper context being installed to SynchronizationContext.Current, which happens automatically, but not until Dispatcher.Run is called.  In the above case, SynchronizationContext.Current will return null during the Window’s construction, which can cause exceptions to occur or unexpected behavior. Luckily, this is fairly easy to correct.  We need to do three things, in order, prior to creating our Window: Create and initialize the Dispatcher for the new thread manually Create a synchronization context for the thread which uses the Dispatcher Install the synchronization context Creating the Dispatcher is quite simple – The Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher property gets the current thread’s Dispatcher and “creates a new Dispatcher if one is not already associated with the thread.”  Once we have the correct Dispatcher, we can create a SynchronizationContext which uses the dispatcher by creating a DispatcherSynchronizationContext.  Finally, this synchronization context can be installed as the current thread’s context via SynchronizationContext.SetSynchronizationContext.  These three steps can easily be added to the above via a single line of code: // Create a thread Thread newWindowThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart( () => { // Create our context, and install it: SynchronizationContext.SetSynchronizationContext( new DispatcherSynchronizationContext( Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher)); Window1 tempWindow = new Window1(); // When the window closes, shut down the dispatcher tempWindow.Closed += (s,e) => Dispatcher.CurrentDispatcher.BeginInvokeShutdown(DispatcherPriority.Background); tempWindow.Show(); // Start the Dispatcher Processing System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.Run(); })); // Setup and start thread as before This now forces the synchronization context to be in place before the Window is created and correctly shuts down the Dispatcher when the window closes. However, there are quite a few steps.  In my next post, I’ll show how to make this operation more reusable by creating a class with a far simpler API…

  • Build an Organization Chart In Visio 2010

    - by Mysticgeek
    With trying to manage a business these days, it’s very important to have an Organization Chart to keep everything manageable. Here we’ll show you how to build one in Visio 2010. This Guest Article was written by our friends over at Office 2010 Club. Need for Organization Charts The need of creating Organization Charts are becoming indispensable these days, as companies start focusing on extensive hiring for far reach availability, increase in productivity and targeting diverse markets. Considering this rigorous change, creating an organization chart can help stakeholders in comprehending the ever growing organization structure & hierarchy with an ease. It shows the basic structure of organization along with defining the relationships between employees working in different departments. Opportunely, Microsoft Visio 2010 offers an easy way to create Organization chart. As before now, orthodox ways of listing organization hierarchy have been used for defining the structure of departments along with communication possible including; horizontal and vertical communications. To transform these lists which defines organizational structure, into a detailed chart, Visio 2010 includes an add-in for importing Excel spreadsheet, which comes in handy for pulling out data from spreadsheet to create an organization chart. Importantly, you don’t need to indulge yourself in maze of defining organizational hierarchies and chalking-out structure, as you just need to specify the column & row headers, along with data you need to import and it will automatically create out chart defining; organizational hierarchies with specified credentials of each employee, categorized in their corresponding departments. Creating Organization Charts in Visio 2010 To start off with, we have created an Excel spreadsheet having fields, Name, Supervisor, Designation, Department and Phone. The Name field contains name of all the employees working in different departments, whereas Supervisor field contains name of supervisors or team leads. This field is vital for creating Organization Chart, as it defines the basic structure & hierarchy in chart. Now launch Visio 2010, head over to View tab, under Add-Ons menu, from Business options, click Organization Chart Wizard. This will start Organization Chart Wizard, in the first step, enable Information that’s already stored in a file or database option, and click Next. As we are importing Excel sheet, select the second option for importing Excel spreadsheet. Specify the Excel file path and click Next to continue. In this step, you need to specify the fields which actually defines the structure of an organization. In our case, these are Name & Supervisor fields. After specifying fields, click Next to Proceed further. As organization chart is primarily for showing the hierarchy of departments/employees working in organization along with how they are linked together, and who supervises whom. Considering this, in this step we will leave out Supervisor field, because it’s inclusion wouldn’t be necessary as Visio automatically chalks-out the basic structure defined in Excel sheet. Add the rest of the fields under Displayed fields category, and click Next. Now choose the fields which you want to include in Organization Chart’s shapes and click Next. This step is about breaking the chart into multiple pages, if you are dealing with 100+ employees, you may want to specify numbers of pages on which Organization Chart will be displayed. But in our case, we are dealing with much less amount of data, so we will enable I want the wizard to automatically break my organization chart across pages option. Specify the name you need to show on the top of the page. If you are having less than 20 hierarchies, enter the name of the highest ranked employee in organization and click Finish to end the wizard. It will instantly create an Organization chart out of specified Excel spreadsheet. Highest ranked employee will be shown on top of the organization chart, supervising various employees from different departments. As shown below, his immediate subordinates further manages other employees and so on. For advance customizations, head over to Org Chart tab, here you will find different groups for setting up the Org Chart’s hierarchy and manage other employees’ positions. Under Arrange group, shapes’ arrangements can be changed and it provides easy navigation through the chart. You can also change the type of the position and hide subordinates of selected employee. From Picture group, you can insert a picture of the employees, departments, etc. From synchronization group, you have the option of creating a synced copy and expanding subordinates of selected employee. Under Organization Data group, you can change whole layout of Organization chart from Display Options including; shape display, show divider, enable/disable imported fields, change block position, and fill colors, etc. If at any point of time, you need to insert new position or announce vacancy, Organization Chart stencil is always available on the left sidebar. Drag the desired Organization Chart shape into main diagram page, to maintain the structure integrity, i.e, for inserting subordinates for a specific employee, drag the position shape over the existing employee shape box. For instance, We have added a consultant in organization, who is directly under CEO, for maintaining this, we have dragged the Consultant box and just dropped it over the CEO box to make the immediate subordinate position. Adding details to new position is a cinch, just right-click new position box and click Properties. This will open up Shape Data dialog, start filling in all the relevant information and click OK. Here you can see the newly created position is easily populated with all the specified information. Now expanding an Organization Chart doesn’t require maintenance of long lists any more. Under Design tab, you can also try out different designs & layouts over organization chart to make it look more flamboyant and professional.  Conclusion An Organization Chart is a great way of showing detailed organizational hierarchies; with defined credentials of employees, departments structure, new vacancies, newly hired employees, recently added departments, and importantly shows most convenient way of interaction between different departments & employees, etc. Similar Articles Productive Geek Tips Geek Reviews: Using Dia as a Free Replacement for Microsoft VisioMysticgeek Blog: Create Appealing Charts In Excel 2007Create Charts in Excel 2007 the Easy Way with Chart AdvisorCreate a Hyperlink in a Word 2007 Flow Chart and Hide Annoying ScreenTipsCreate A Flow Chart In Word 2007 TouchFreeze Alternative in AutoHotkey The Icy Undertow Desktop Windows Home Server – Backup to LAN The Clear & Clean Desktop Use This Bookmarklet to Easily Get Albums Use AutoHotkey to Assign a Hotkey to a Specific Window Latest Software Reviews Tinyhacker Random Tips HippoRemote Pro 2.2 Xobni Plus for Outlook All My Movies 5.9 CloudBerry Online Backup 1.5 for Windows Home Server Know if Someone Accessed Your Facebook Account Shop for Music with Windows Media Player 12 Access Free Documentaries at BBC Documentaries Rent Cameras In Bulk At CameraRenter Download Songs From MySpace Steve Jobs’ iPhone 4 Keynote Video

  • My Code Kata–A Solution Kata

    - by Glav
    There are many developers and coders out there who like to do code Kata’s to keep their coding ability up to scratch and to practice their skills. I think it is a good idea. While I like the concept, I find them dead boring and of minimal purpose. Yes, they serve to hone your skills but that’s about it. They are often quite abstract, in that they usually focus on a small problem set requiring specific solutions. It is fair enough as that is how they are designed but again, I find them quite boring. What I personally like to do is go for something a little larger and a little more fun. It takes a little more time and is not as easily executed as a kata though, but it services the same purposes from a practice perspective and allows me to continue to solve some problems that are not directly part of the initial goal. This means I can cover a broader learning range and have a bit more fun. If I am lucky, sometimes they even end up being useful tools. With that in mind, I thought I’d share my current ‘kata’. It is not really a code kata as it is too big. I prefer to think of it as a ‘solution kata’. The code is on bitbucket here. What I wanted to do was create a kind of simplistic virtual world where I can create a player, or a class, stuff it into the world, and see if it survives, and can navigate its way to the exit. Requirements were pretty simple: Must be able to define a map to describe the world using simple X,Y co-ordinates. Z co-ordinates as well if you feel like getting clever. Should have the concept of entrances, exists, solid blocks, and potentially other materials (again if you want to get clever). A coder should be able to easily write a class which will act as an inhabitant of the world. An inhabitant will receive stimulus from the world in the form of surrounding environment and be able to make a decision on action which it passes back to the ‘world’ for processing. At a minimum, an inhabitant will have sight and speed characteristics which determine how far they can ‘see’ in the world, and how fast they can move. Coders who write a really bad ‘inhabitant’ should not adversely affect the rest of world. Should allow multiple inhabitants in the world. So that was the solution I set out to act as a practice solution and a little bit of fun. It had some interesting problems to solve and I figured, if it turned out ok, I could potentially use this as a ‘developer test’ for interviews. Ask a potential coder to write a class for an inhabitant. Show the coder the map they will navigate, but also mention that we will use their code to navigate a map they have not yet seen and a little more complex. I have been playing with solution for a short time now and have it working in basic concepts. Below is a screen shot using a very basic console visualiser that shows the map, boundaries, blocks, entrance, exit and players/inhabitants. The yellow asterisks ‘*’ are the players, green ‘O’ the entrance, purple ‘^’ the exit, maroon/browny ‘#’ are solid blocks. The players can move around at different speeds, knock into each others, and make directional movement decisions based on what they see and who is around them. It has been quite fun to write and it is also quite fun to develop different players to inject into the world. The code below shows a really simple implementation of an inhabitant that can work out what to do based on stimulus from the world. It is pretty simple and just tries to move in some direction if there is nothing blocking the path. public class TestPlayer:LivingEntity { public TestPlayer() { Name = "Beta Boy"; LifeKey = Guid.NewGuid(); } public override ActionResult DecideActionToPerform(EcoDev.Core.Common.Actions.ActionContext actionContext) { try { var action = new MovementAction(); // move forward if we can if (actionContext.Position.ForwardFacingPositions.Length > 0) { if (CheckAccessibilityOfMapBlock(actionContext.Position.ForwardFacingPositions[0])) { action.DirectionToMove = MovementDirection.Forward; return action; } } if (actionContext.Position.LeftFacingPositions.Length > 0) { if (CheckAccessibilityOfMapBlock(actionContext.Position.LeftFacingPositions[0])) { action.DirectionToMove = MovementDirection.Left; return action; } } if (actionContext.Position.RearFacingPositions.Length > 0) { if (CheckAccessibilityOfMapBlock(actionContext.Position.RearFacingPositions[0])) { action.DirectionToMove = MovementDirection.Back; return action; } } if (actionContext.Position.RightFacingPositions.Length > 0) { if (CheckAccessibilityOfMapBlock(actionContext.Position.RightFacingPositions[0])) { action.DirectionToMove = MovementDirection.Right; return action; } } return action; } catch (Exception ex) { World.WriteDebugInformation("Player: "+ Name, string.Format("Player Generated exception: {0}",ex.Message)); throw ex; } } private bool CheckAccessibilityOfMapBlock(MapBlock block) { if (block == null || block.Accessibility == MapBlockAccessibility.AllowEntry || block.Accessibility == MapBlockAccessibility.AllowExit || block.Accessibility == MapBlockAccessibility.AllowPotentialEntry) { return true; } return false; } } It is simple and it seems to work well. The world implementation itself decides the stimulus context that is passed to he inhabitant to make an action decision. All movement is carried out on separate threads and timed appropriately to be as fair as possible and to cater for additional skills such as speed, and eventually maybe stamina, strength, with actions like fighting. It is pretty fun to make up random maps and see how your inhabitant does. You can download the code from here. Along the way I have played with parallel extensions to make the compute intensive stuff spread across all cores, had to heavily factor in visibility of methods and properties so design of classes was paramount, work out movement algorithms that play fairly in the world and properly favour the players with higher abilities, as well as a host of other issues. So that is my ‘solution kata’. If I keep going with it, I may develop a web interface for it where people can upload assemblies and watch their player within a web browser visualiser and maybe even a map designer. What do you do to keep the fires burning?

  • Light following me around the room. Something is wrong with my shader!

    - by Robinson
    I'm trying to do a spot (Blinn) light, with falloff and attenuation. It seems to be working OK except I have a bit of a space problem. That is, whenever I move the camera the light moves to maintain the same relative position, rather than changing with the camera. This results in the light moving around, i.e. not always falling on the same surfaces. It's as if there's a flashlight attached to the camera. I'm transforming the lights beforehand into view space, so Light_Position and Light_Direction are already in eye space (I hope!). I made a little movie of what it looks like here: My camera rotating around a point inside a box. The light is fixed in the centre up and its "look at" point in a fixed position in front of it. As you can see, as the camera rotates around the origin (always looking at the centre), so don't think the box is rotating (!). The lighting follows it around. To start, some code. This is how I'm transforming the light into view space (it gets passed into the shader already in view space): // Compute eye-space light position. Math::Vector3d eyeSpacePosition = MyCamera->ViewMatrix() * MyLightPosition; MyShaderVariables->Set(MyLightPositionIndex, eyeSpacePosition); // Compute eye-space light direction vector. Math::Vector3d eyeSpaceDirection = Math::Unit(MyLightLookAt - MyLightPosition); MyCamera->ViewMatrixInverseTranspose().TransformNormal(eyeSpaceDirection); MyShaderVariables->Set(MyLightDirectionIndex, eyeSpaceDirection); Can anyone give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong here? I think the light should remain looking at a fixed point on the box, regardless of the camera orientation. • Applications: The Mathematics of Movement, Part 2

    - by TechTwaddle
    In part 1 of this series we saw how we can make the marble move towards the click point, with a fixed speed. In this post we’ll see, first, how to get rid of Atan2(), sine() and cosine() in our calculations, and, second, reducing the speed of the marble as it approaches the destination, so it looks like the marble is easing into it’s final position. As I mentioned in one of the previous posts, this is achieved by making the speed of the marble a function of the distance between the marble and the destination point. Getting rid of Atan2(), sine() and cosine() Ok, to be fair we are not exactly getting rid of these trigonometric functions, rather, replacing one form with another. So instead of writing sin(?), we write y/length. You see the point. So instead of using the trig functions as below, double x = destX - marble1.x; double y = destY - marble1.y; //distance between destination and current position, before updating marble position distanceSqrd = x * x + y * y; double angle = Math.Atan2(y, x); //Cos and Sin give us the unit vector, 6 is the value we use to magnify the unit vector along the same direction incrX = speed * Math.Cos(angle); incrY = speed * Math.Sin(angle); marble1.x += incrX; marble1.y += incrY; we use the following, double x = destX - marble1.x; double y = destY - marble1.y; //distance between destination and marble (before updating marble position) lengthSqrd = x * x + y * y; length = Math.Sqrt(lengthSqrd); //unit vector along the same direction as vector(x, y) unitX = x / length; unitY = y / length; //update marble position incrX = speed * unitX; incrY = speed * unitY; marble1.x += incrX; marble1.y += incrY; so we replaced cos(?) with x/length and sin(?) with y/length. The result is the same.   Adding oomph to the way it moves In the last post we had the speed of the marble fixed at 6, double speed = 6; to make the marble decelerate as it moves, we have to keep updating the speed of the marble in every frame such that the speed is calculated as a function of the length. So we may have, speed = length/12; ‘length’ keeps decreasing as the marble moves and so does speed. The Form1_MouseUp() function remains the same as before, here is the UpdatePosition() method, private void UpdatePosition() {     double incrX = 0, incrY = 0;     double lengthSqrd = 0, length = 0, lengthSqrdNew = 0;     double unitX = 0, unitY = 0;     double speed = 0;     double x = destX - marble1.x;     double y = destY - marble1.y;     //distance between destination and marble (before updating marble position)     lengthSqrd = x * x + y * y;     length = Math.Sqrt(lengthSqrd);     //unit vector along the same direction as vector(x, y)     unitX = x / length;     unitY = y / length;     //speed as a function of length     speed = length / 12;     //update marble position     incrX = speed * unitX;     incrY = speed * unitY;     marble1.x += incrX;     marble1.y += incrY;     //check for bounds     if ((int)marble1.x < MinX + marbleWidth / 2)     {         marble1.x = MinX + marbleWidth / 2;     }     else if ((int)marble1.x > (MaxX - marbleWidth / 2))     {         marble1.x = MaxX - marbleWidth / 2;     }     if ((int)marble1.y < MinY + marbleHeight / 2)     {         marble1.y = MinY + marbleHeight / 2;     }     else if ((int)marble1.y > (MaxY - marbleHeight / 2))     {         marble1.y = MaxY - marbleHeight / 2;     }     //distance between destination and marble (after updating marble position)     x = destX - (marble1.x);     y = destY - (marble1.y);     lengthSqrdNew = x * x + y * y;     /*      * End Condition:      * 1. If there is not much difference between lengthSqrd and lengthSqrdNew      * 2. If the marble has moved more than or equal to a distance of totLenToTravel (see Form1_MouseUp)      */     x = startPosX - marble1.x;     y = startPosY - marble1.y;     double totLenTraveledSqrd = x * x + y * y;     if ((int)totLenTraveledSqrd >= (int)totLenToTravelSqrd)     {         System.Console.WriteLine("Stopping because Total Len has been traveled");         timer1.Enabled = false;     }     else if (Math.Abs((int)lengthSqrd - (int)lengthSqrdNew) < 4)     {         System.Console.WriteLine("Stopping because no change in Old and New");         timer1.Enabled = false;     } } A point to note here is that, in this implementation, the marble never stops because it travelled a distance of totLenToTravelSqrd (first if condition). This happens because speed is a function of the length. During the final few frames length becomes very small and so does speed; and so the amount by which the marble shifts is quite small, and the second if condition always hits true first. I’ll end this series with a third post. In part 3 we will cover two things, one, when the user clicks, the marble keeps moving in that direction, rebounding off the screen edges and keeps moving forever. Two, when the user clicks on the screen, the marble moves towards it, with it’s speed reducing by every frame. It doesn’t come to a halt when the destination point is reached, instead, it continues to move, rebounds off the screen edges and slowly comes to halt. The amount of time that the marble keeps moving depends on how far the user clicks from the marble. I had mentioned this second situation here. Finally, here’s a video of this program running,

  • WPF storyboard animation issue when using VisualBrush

    - by Flack
    Hey guys, I was playing around with storyboards, a flipping animation, and visual brushes. I have encountered an issue though. Below is the xaml and code-behind of a small sample I quickly put together to try to demonstrate the problem. When you first start the app, you are presented with a red square and two buttons. If you click the "Flip" button, the red square will "flip" over and a blue one will appear. In reality, all that is happening is that the scale of the width of the StackPanel that the red square is in is being decreased until it reaches zero and then the StackPanel where a blue square is, whose width is initially scaled to zero, has its width increased. If you click the "Flip" button a few times, the animation looks ok and smooth. Now, if you hit the "Reflection" button, a reflection of the red/blue buttons is added to their respective StackPanels. Hitting the "Flip" button now will still cause the flip animation but it is no longer a smooth animation. The StackPanels width often does not shrink to zero. The width shrinks somewhat but then just stops before being completely invisible. Then the other StackPanel appears as usual. The only thing that changed was adding the reflection, which is just a VisualBrush. Below is the code. Does anyone have any idea why the animations are different between the two cases (stalling in the second case)? Thanks. <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xml:lang="en-US" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2006" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Class="WpfFlipTest.Window1" x:Name="Window" Title="Window1" Width="214" Height="224"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Gray"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Name="redStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="redBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Name="redButton" Height="75" Background="Red" Width="105" /> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="redRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=redButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Name="blueStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="blueBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Margin="0" Width="105" Background="Blue" Name="blueButton" Height="75"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="blueRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=blueButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <Button Grid.Row="1" Click="FlipButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Flip</Button> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Click="ReflectionButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Reflection</Button> </Grid> </Window> Here are the button click handlers: using System; } bool flipped = false; private void FlipButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Storyboard sbFlip = (Storyboard)Resources["sbFlip"]; Storyboard sbFlipBack = (Storyboard)Resources["sbFlipBack"]; if (flipped) { sbFlipBack.Begin(); flipped = false; } else { sbFlip.Begin(); flipped = true; } } bool reflection = false; private void ReflectionButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (reflection) { reflection = false; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } else { reflection = true; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } } } } UPDATE: I have been testing this some more to try to find out what is causing the issue I am seeing and I believe I found what is causing the issue. Below I have pasted new xaml and code-behind. The new sample below is very similar to the original sample, with a few minor modifications. The xaml basically consists of two stack panels, each containing two borders. The second border in each stack panel is a visual brush (a reflection of the border above it). Now, when I click the "Flip" button, one stack panel gets its ScaleX reduced to zero, while the second stack panel, whose initial ScaleX is zero, gets its ScaleX increased to 1. This animation gives the illusion of flipping. There are also two textblocks which display the scale factor of each stack panel. I added those to try to diagnose my issue. The issue is (as described in the oringal post) that the flipping animation is not smooth. Every time I hit the flip button, the animation starts but whenever the ScaleX factor gets to around .14 to .16, the animation looks like it stalls and the stack panels never have there ScaleX reduced to zero, so they never totally disappear. Now, the strange thing is that if I change the Width/Height properties of the "frontBorder" and "backBorder" borders defined below to use explict values instead of Auto, such as Width=105 and Height=75 (to match the button in the border) everything works fine. The animation stutters the first two or three times I run it but after that the flips are smooth and flawless. (BTW, when an animation is run for the first time, is there something going on in the background, some sort of initialization, that causes it to be a little slow the first time?) Is it possible that the Auto Width/Height of the borders are causing the issue? I can reproduce it everytime but I am not sure why Auto Width/Height would be a problem. Below is the sample. Thanks for the help. <Window x:Class="FlipTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" ShowGridLines="True"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel x:Name="front" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="frontBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Name="redButton" Height="75" Background="Red" Width="105" Click="FlipButton_Click"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel x:Name="back" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="backBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Width="105" Background="Blue" Name="blueButton" Height="75" Click="FlipButton_Click"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=backBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <Button Grid.Row="1" Click="FlipButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Flip</Button> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkRed" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=front, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> <TextBlock Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkBlue" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=back, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> </Grid> </Window> Code-behind: using System;   • Get Layout Shape Corresponding to Slide Shape

    - by Ryan
    In PP2007 and using VBA, how can I get the placeholder shape on a Slide Master layout that is the "master" for a placeholder shape on the slide? I am currently using a loop to compare the position and size of the slide placeholder with the position and shape of each placeholder shape in the slide's layout, but this isn't fool-proof. For example, if the placeholder shape is moved on the slide, its position may no longer match the position of any placeholder shapes in the slide's layout. I could reapply the slide's layout to snap placeholders back into position, but that's not what I want to do. Something in the object model like "Shape.Master" would be ideal but, of course, that doesn't exist.

  • Ball to Ball Collision - Detection and Handling

    - by Simucal
    With the help of the Stack Overflow community I've written a pretty basic-but fun physics simulator. You click and drag the mouse to launch a ball. It will bounce around and eventually stop on the "floor". My next big feature I want to add in is ball to ball collision. The ball's movement is broken up into a x and y speed vector. I have gravity (small reduction of the y vector each step), I have friction (small reduction of both vectors each collision with a wall). The balls honestly move around in a surprisingly realistic way. I guess my question has two parts: What is the best method to detect ball to ball collision? Do I just have an O(n^2) loop that iterates over each ball and checks every other ball to see if it's radius overlaps? What equations do I use to handle the ball to ball collisions? Physics 101 How does it effect the two balls speed x/y vectors? What is the resulting direction the two balls head off in? How do I apply this to each ball? Handling the collision detection of the "walls" and the resulting vector changes were easy but I see more complications with ball-ball collisions. With walls I simply had to take the negative of the appropriate x or y vector and off it would go in the correct direction. With balls I don't think it is that way. Some quick clarifications: for simplicity I'm ok with a perfectly elastic collision for now, also all my balls have the same mass right now, but I might change that in the future. In case anyone is interested in playing with the simulator I have made so far, I've uploaded the source here (EDIT: Check the updated source below). Edit: Resources I have found useful 2d Ball physics with vectors: 2-Dimensional Collisions Without Trigonometry.pdf 2d Ball collision detection example: Adding Collision Detection Success! I have the ball collision detection and response working great! Relevant code: Collision Detection: for (int i = 0; i < ballCount; i++) { for (int j = i + 1; j < ballCount; j++) { if (balls[i].colliding(balls[j])) { balls[i].resolveCollision(balls[j]); } } } This will check for collisions between every ball but skip redundant checks (if you have to check if ball 1 collides with ball 2 then you don't need to check if ball 2 collides with ball 1. Also, it skips checking for collisions with itself). Then, in my ball class I have my colliding() and resolveCollision() methods: public boolean colliding(Ball ball) { float xd = position.getX() - ball.position.getX(); float yd = position.getY() - ball.position.getY(); float sumRadius = getRadius() + ball.getRadius(); float sqrRadius = sumRadius * sumRadius; float distSqr = (xd * xd) + (yd * yd); if (distSqr <= sqrRadius) { return true; } return false; } public void resolveCollision(Ball ball) { // get the mtd Vector2d delta = (position.subtract(ball.position)); float d = delta.getLength(); // minimum translation distance to push balls apart after intersecting Vector2d mtd = delta.multiply(((getRadius() + ball.getRadius())-d)/d); // resolve intersection -- // inverse mass quantities float im1 = 1 / getMass(); float im2 = 1 / ball.getMass(); // push-pull them apart based off their mass position = position.add(mtd.multiply(im1 / (im1 + im2))); ball.position = ball.position.subtract(mtd.multiply(im2 / (im1 + im2))); // impact speed Vector2d v = (this.velocity.subtract(ball.velocity)); float vn = v.dot(mtd.normalize()); // sphere intersecting but moving away from each other already if (vn > 0.0f) return; // collision impulse float i = (-(1.0f + Constants.restitution) * vn) / (im1 + im2); Vector2d impulse = mtd.multiply(i); // change in momentum this.velocity = this.velocity.add(impulse.multiply(im1)); ball.velocity = ball.velocity.subtract(impulse.multiply(im2)); } Source Code: Complete source for ball to ball collider. Binary: Compiled binary in case you just want to try bouncing some balls around. If anyone has some suggestions for how to improve this basic physics simulator let me know! One thing I have yet to add is angular momentum so the balls will roll more realistically. Any other suggestions? Leave a comment!

  • Blackberry - Exception when sending SMS programmatically

    - by user213199
    Hello all, I am developing a Blackberry application. I am trying to send SMS programmatically to GSM number. I have gone through many queries and answers related to that and finally added the code for that as below. When the code tries to execute sending some text message to the particular mobile number, it doesn't send and throws exception as "blocking operation not permitted on event dispatch thread". So i created a separate background thread where i put the SMS code and running the code now. But still observing the same exception. Could someone please suggest what am i doing wrong (or) how to do that? class DummyFirst extends MainScreen { private Bitmap background; private VerticalFieldManager _container; private VerticalFieldManager mainVerticalManager; private HorizontalFieldManager horizontalFldManager; private BackGroundThread _thread; CustomControl buttonControl1; public DummyFirst() { super(); LabelField appTitle = new LabelField("Dummy App"); setTitle(appTitle); background = Bitmap.getBitmapResource("HomeBack.png"); _container = new VerticalFieldManager(Manager.NO_VERTICAL_SCROLL | Manager.NO_VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR) { protected void paint(Graphics g) { // Instead of these next two lines, draw your bitmap int y = DummyFirst.this.getMainManager() .getVerticalScroll(); g.clear(); g.drawBitmap(0, 0, background.getWidth(), background .getHeight(), background, 0, 0); super.paint(g); } protected void sublayout(int maxWidth, int maxHeight) { int width = background.getWidth(); int height = background.getHeight(); super.sublayout(width, height); setExtent(width, height); } }; mainVerticalManager = new VerticalFieldManager( Manager.NO_VERTICAL_SCROLL | Manager.NO_VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR) { protected void sublayout(int maxWidth, int maxHeight) { int width = background.getWidth(); int height = background.getHeight(); super.sublayout(width, height); setExtent(width, height); } }; HorizontalFieldManager horizontalFldManager = new HorizontalFieldManager(Manager.USE_ALL_WIDTH); buttonControl1 = new CustomControl("Send", ButtonField.CONSUME_CLICK, 83, 15); horizontalFldManager.add(buttonControl1); this.setStatus(horizontalFldManager); FieldListener listner = new FieldListener(); buttonControl1.setChangeListener(listner); _container.add(mainVerticalManager); this.add(_container); } class FieldListener implements FieldChangeListener { public void fieldChanged(Field f, int context) { if (f == buttonControl1) { _thread = new BackGroundThread(); _thread.start(); } } } private class BackGroundThread extends Thread { public BackGroundThread() { /*** initialize parameters in constructor *****/ } public void run() { // UiApplication.getUiApplication().invokeLater(new Runnable() UiApplication.getUiApplication().invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { MessageConnection msgConn = (MessageConnection) Connector .open("sms://:0"); Message msg = msgConn .newMessage( MessageConnection.TEXT_MESSAGE); TextMessage txtMsg = (TextMessage) msg; String msgAdr = "sms://+919861348735"; txtMsg.setAddress(msgAdr); txtMsg.setPayloadText("Test Message"); // here exception is thrown msgConn.send(txtMsg); System.out.println("Sending" + " SMS success !!!"); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); e.printStackTrace(); } } // run }); } } public boolean onClose() { System.out.println("close event called, request to be" + " in the backgroud...."); UiApplication.getUiApplication().requestBackground(); return true; } } I resolved this issue by creating a separate thread and then not using Port etc. Here it is: SMSThread smsthread = new SMSThread("Some message",mobNumber); smsthread.start(); class SMSThread extends Thread { Thread myThread; MessageConnection msgConn; String message; String mobilenumber; public SMSThread( String textMsg, String mobileNumber ) { message = textMsg; mobilenumber = mobileNumber; } public void run() { try { msgConn = (MessageConnection) Connector.open("sms://+"+ mobilenumber); TextMessage text = (TextMessage) msgConn.newMessage(MessageConnection.TEXT_MESSAGE); text.setPayloadText(message); msgConn.send(text); msgConn.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("Exception: " + e); } } }

  • How do I access the popup page DOM from bg page in Chrome extension?

    - by Fletcher Moore
    In Google Chrome's extension developer section, it says The HTML pages inside an extension have complete access to each other's DOMs, and they can invoke functions on each other. ... The popup's contents are a web page defined by an HTML file (popup.html). The popup doesn't need to duplicate code that's in the background page (background.html) because the popup can invoke functions on the background page I've loaded and tested jQuery, and can access DOM elements in background.html with jQuery, but I cannot figure out how to get access to DOM elements in popup.html from background.html.
