• Is there benefit to maintain a large project with bad code?

The code use the MFC as its framework, in genral, it only has interface part which heavily use the mfc api and a business logic part which full of bad code, confusing logic. The company has some small features delivered to the customer each year(most features are adding code to exisiting project, finding some reference of some api or variable and it' s no different with fixing 3-4 bugs ), most of the tasks are to resove issue and optimize performance . Like other company with maintaining position, it value people who knows much logic about its product. There are people who can quickly finish the job on such project, is it worth to train myself like such a programmer? Is there benifits to work on such project for a long time?

• Temenos WealthManager: performance benchmark on Exadata

  Temenos WealthManager is at work in financial institutions of all sizes. No matter the size, each of Temenos’ customers has one requirement in common: a need for fast technology. This led Temenos to conduct a performance benchmark, running its WealthManager platform on Oracle Exadata Database Machine. During the study, Temenos executed high-intensity financial engines two- to three-times faster than its previous internal benchmarks and/or largest customer throughput. The company also demonstrated greater than two-times the average improvement in response times for six-times the number of users and data volumes. Further, Temenos secured a two-times gain in service-level agreements for batch and user-oriented workloads via dedicated or parallelized processing windows. Last year Temenos also communicated the availability of its T24 core banking system and how the benchmark run demonstrated the ability of Oracle’s Exadata platform to comfortably support the highest banking volumes for T24. • Master Data Management - The Trend Towards Multi-Domain and Other Realities

  In my quest to keep my fingers on the pulse of MDM, I recently found a pretty interesting article.  The article was published in Information Week and provides some interesting statistics from a recent survey conducted by the analyst firm, The Information Difference.  Let's take a look: Of the 130 organizations surveyed, 53% have live operational MDM implementations 81% of those with live operational MDM implementations report broad success - a huge improvement over 2011's 54% 64% developed a business case prior to their MDM deployment, while a daring 32% went ahead without a business case.    The article goes on to talk about the shift in vendors from focusing on customer data and product information management to one that is oriented around multi-domain master data management as well as other realities around MDM.  Take a look at the article.   It's for a Point of Sale Terminal where the customer will bring the physical credit card and it will be swiped through the terminal. The business has a merchant account on some banks. So, how do I start accepting credit cards in my app? The credit cards that needs to be accepted include: visa, master-card, amex, discover. Which APIs do I need to use? The programming language doesn't matter it can be in any programming languages Java/C#/C++/Python or anything. Will there be a single API or multiple APIs that need to be integrated? • Archiving your contact form data.

  I get TONS of email from customer. Over time, this email helps me to determine what areas in our product collection are opportunities for enhancement or improvement. I store the email that comes from my blog contact form in folders and then search through them looking for trends periodically. It occurred to me that, while I need to get the emails because many of them are actionable, it would be great if I could use reporting and analysis tools against the collection. • Accessing Master Page Controls

  Sometimes when using Master Pages you need to set a property on a control from the content page. An example might be changing a label’s text to reflect some content (e.g. customer name) being viewed or maybe to change the visibility of a control depending on the rights a user may have in the application. There are different ways to do this but this is the one I like. First on the code behind of the Master Page create the property that needs to be accessed. An example would be: Public Property CustomerNameText() As String     Get         Return lblCustomerName.Text     End Get     Set(ByVal value As String)         lblCustomerName.Text = value     End Set End Property Next in the aspx file of the content page add the MasterType directive like: <%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/MasterPages/Sales.master" %> Then you can access the property in any of the functions of the code behind of the aspx content page. • Serverless Web Application

  In my company we work on a software that produce reports in html format. My bosses love the fact that static html pages can be moved across computer simply by moving/copying a folder and no web server is involved, so the customer only need a browser. The problem is that they asking me to implement a lot of feature which is very hard to implement properly and in a clean way without an application server. Frames cross domain problem, the impossibility to work with GET and POST data, no URLs routing...is very hard to work with this limitations. Anyone had similiar experience and wants to share their tricks/suggestion ? Do I need to tell my boss 'there is no future without a web server'? Regards.

• Is How the Company Makes Its Money One of The Most Important Determining Factors in their work environment, culture, etc

  This is a viewpoint I've started to realize recently about some companies that I have worked for. They had their own software product that they developed in-house but most of the focus was on building an in-person sales team to push their product to businesses throughout the country. I figure that companies that are exclusively "online", meaning that their revenue source comes from online transactions where there is no "face" of the company to the customer would have a different work culture. Just curious if anyone has worked for both types of companies and notices a difference. I myself am hoping to get more into contract programming and figure that companies that don't have to employ a sales-force and things like that would be more focused on technology and maybe even willing to be flexible on partial telecommute, etc

• What are the dis-advantages of installing the ssl certificate for the naked domain?

  I might buy an SSL certificate for my sie. I know that it will help me in many ways. But will there be dis-advantages also? eg. If I load an image from another server (using plain http), will that alert the customer saying something is wrong? Will I be able to use all existing codes like phpbb, awstats etc without a problem? Will there be any issue if redirect a page from my domain.com to my subdomain.domain.com using a meta refresh or .htaccess? Will there be any issue if redirect a page from my subdomain.domain.com to my domain.com using a meta refresh or .htaccess? Any other issue that I might get into? Thanks.

• What type of application is this called?

  I am working on a web-based application which combines elements of what my client would call a CMS (content management system) and CRM (customer relations management) but also adds in many other business-specific features such as bookings management, staff task allocation management, wages calculations, document version control etc. However, I'm struggling to find a catch-all term for this type of application so I can research how other people have gone about creating such an integrated solution. Can anyone recommend a term I can use to refer to this, both internally in our team, for the client so they know what to call the 'system' and also for me personally, so that I can ask the Stack community further questions?
