At line 3, am I setting current to point to the same address as near so that I now have two variables pointing to the same place in memory, or am I setting current to point to the location of near in memory such that I now have this structure: current - near - NSMutableArray The obvious difference would be the value of near at line 4. • Windows Server 2008 R2 File Permissions

  I’m having some problems understanding some particular file permissions behaviour. Here are the steps to reproduce: Log into the server using the default Administrator account Create a text file (testfile.txt) in C:\ProgramData containing some arbitrary text Create a new user account and make it a member of the Administrators group Log in using new account and open C:\ProgramData\testfile.txt Edit the text and try to save Upon clicking save I’m presented with the save as dialog, which indicates that i do not have the necessary permissions to edit the file. This seems odd considering that the new user account is a member of Administrators. When I view the permissions of the file I can see the there are three groups listed, System, Administrators and Users. SYSTEM and Administrators have full permissions, however, Users only has the Read & Execute and Read permissions checked. It would appear that when I open the testfile.txt from the new users account, it opens in the context of the Users group, despite being a member of Administrators, is this correct? It would certainly explain the behaviour. The reason that this is an issue for me is that if I deploy an application via 'Run as Administrator', will normal users be able to edit the text files I install to ProgramData. Is this behaviour confined to Windows server or is it the same in Vista and Win7.

• Is it immoral to put a captcha on a login form?

  In a recent project I put a captcha test on a login form, in order to stop possible brute force attacks. The immediate reaction of other coworkers was a request to remove it, saying that it was inapropiate for that purpose, and that it was quite exotic to see a captcha in that place. I've seen captcha images on signup, contact, password recovery forms, etc. So I personally don't see inapropiate to put a captcha also on a place like that. Well, it obviously burns down usability a little bit, but it's a matter of time and getting used to it. With the lack of a captcha test, one would have to put some sort of blacklist / account locking mechanism, which also has some drawbacks. Is it a good choice for you? Am I getting somewhat captcha-aholic and need some sort of group therapy? Thanks in advance.

For instance, in the service layer code sample there is a method public IEnumerable<Contact> ListContacts() { return _repository.ListContacts(); } If instead you wanted a IEnumerable, should it go in the service layer, or is there somewhere else that is the "correct" place? Perhaps more appropriately, if you have a separate viewmodel for each view associated with ContactController, should ContactManagerService have a separate method to return each viewmodel?

  I'm running an classified ads website and I'm charging a specific fee for each ad placed. As you may know paypal charges a specific percent for each transaction + a specific amount fee (e.g 2,9% + 0.30 cents) . I have customers who place about 30 ads per month therefore I would like to integrate a schema that would cut the specific amount fee . Basically I'm looking to make "pre-approve" call every time after the client place an ad to make sure that he has the money to pay and at the end of the month to cancel all the scheduled pre-approved transactions and make a single payment request with the whole amount. The question that I have is : Will I be charged for the pre-approved transactions that I cancel ?

• Should frontend and backend be handled by different controllers?

  In my previous learning projects I always used a single controller, but now I wonder if that is good practice or even always possible. In all RESTful Rails tutorials the controllers have a show, an edit and an index view. If an authorized user is logged on, the edit view becomes available and the index view shows additional data manipulation controls, like a delete button or a link to the edit view. Now I have a Rails application which falls exactly into this pattern, but the index view is not reusable: The normal user sees a flashy index page with lots of pictures, complex layout, no Javascript requirement, ... The Admin user index has a completly different minimalistic design, jQuery table and lots of additional data, ... Now I'm not sure how to handle this case. I can think of the following: Single controller, single view: The view is split into two large blocks/partials using an if statement. Single controller, two views: index and index_admin. Two different controllers: BookController and BookAdminController None of these solutions seems perfect, but for now I'm inclined to use the 3rd option. What's the preferred way to do this?

• Where to intercept resolution of controller/view in ASP.Net MVC for customizations?

  I am trying to figure out where the appropriate place is to intercept the resolution of what view + controller is being called in ASP.Net MVC 2. I have a situation where I have a controller and a corresponding set of views. I also have the possibility of a customized version of both the controller and N of the views sitting in the project (or we may use something like Portable Views from the MvcContrib project). If the customized version of the controller or view(s) exists at run time, and the user satisfies certain criteria, I need to call the customized controller and use the appropriate customized view. At design/compile time we don't know what customizations may be in place. My first run at this was by using a custom controller factory that returns a custom controller if it exists. However, this controller is "wired up" to the standard view, and I cannot figure out how to return the customized view if it also exists. To complicate matters, there may be no customized controller but customized views, and visa-versa.

• C# Debug.Assert-s use the same error message. Should I promote it to a static variable?

  I love Asserts but not code duplication, and in several places I use a Debug.Assert which checks for the same condition like so: Debug.Assert(kosherBaconList.SelectedIndex != -1, "An error message along the lines - you should not ever be able to click on edit button without selecting a kosher bacon first."); This is in response to an actual bug, although the actual list does not contain kosher bacon. • How to secure images with Rails?

  I have a gallery in my rails app that needs to only allow certain images to be shown to specific, logged in users. I am using Paperclip for image processing now, but it saves all images in a public folder available to anyone. Note that I don't have to use Paperclip if there is a better way, and I already have the login system in place. I just need a way to place the images in a non-public location, but still be able to serve them as needed. Is it possible to only allow these images to be served to authenticated users?

• magento override sort order of product list by subcategories

  I'm setting up a new store using 1.4.1 I'm trying sort the products in the list by the subcategories they belong to. At the top of list.phtml is $_productCollection=$this->getLoadedProductCollection(); I tried adding sort filters to that by adding the line $_productCollection->setOrder('category_ids', 'asc')->setOrder('name', 'asc'); I also tried addAttributeToSort instead of setOrder. This doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm guessing that $_productCollection is not a model I can sort in this manner. I have been digging around trying to find the correct place to apply the sort method without any success. Can someone tell me the proper place to do this?

  I have a datasheet that looks like this: ID name_ 1 2 3 4 1 name1 x 0 0 0 2 name2 0 x 0 0 3 name3 0 0 x 0 4 name4 0 0 0 x I have rectangles on a report that correspond to this datasheet. When the report opens, I need the rectangles to be colored red according to the data. For example, in the name1 row where there is an x in the 1 column, I need the specific rectangle corresponding to this (name1, 1) to be colored red. Here is the result that I need: x x x x (where x is a rectangle that is red) Perhaps the best place to place this code would be in ON LOAD event of the report, but i am not sure exactly. Can you please suggest to me some code that would turn the specified rectangles red according to the data?

• WindowsFormsApplicationBase SplashScreen makes login form ignore keypresses until I click on it - how to debug?

  My WinForms app has a simple modal login form, invoked at startup via ShowDialog(). When I run from inside Visual Studio, everything works fine. I can just type in my User ID, hit the Enter key, and get logged in. But when I run a release build directly, everything looks normal (the login form is active, there's a blinking cursor in the User ID MaskedEditBox), but all keypresses are ignored until I click somewhere on the login form. Very annoying if you are used to doing everything from the keyboard. I've tried to trace through the event handlers, and to set the focus directly with code, to no avail. Any suggestions how to debug this (outside of Visual Studio), or failing that - a possible workaround? • Robotlegs: Warning: Injector already has a rule for type

  I have a bunch of warning messages like this appear when using Robotlegs/Signals. Everytime this command class executes, which is every 2-3 seconds ..this message displays below If you have overwritten this mapping intentionally you can use "injector.unmap()" prior to your replacement mapping in order to avoid seeing this message. Warning: Injector already has a rule for type "mx.messaging.messages::IMessage", named "". The command functions fine otherwise but I think I'm doing something wrong anyhow. public class MessageReceivedCommand extends SignalCommand { [Inject] public var message:IMessage; ...etc.. do something with message.. } the application context doesnt map IMessage to this command, as I only see an option to mapSignalClass , besides the payload is received fine. Wonder if anyone knows how I might either fix or suppress this message. I've tried calling this as the warning suggests injector.unmap(IMessage, "") but I receive an error - no mapping found for ::IMessage named "".   Hello! I try to do following: A user is on his profile page. Now he edits his profile. He klicks on update and the data is saved. Now I want to redirect the user to another kind of profile-edit-page. • jQuery innerHTML does not work properly (!)

  I was trying to build an <a> tag and set it in a <td> of a table. The string is built perfectly but when I set this as the innerHTML using jQuery, the string gets broken. I can't figure out why this is happening? Any clues? • MySQL Import Database Error because of Extended Inserts

  Hello all, I'm importing a 400MB(uncompressed) MySQL database. I'm using BIGDUMP, and I am getting this error: Stopped at the line 387. At this place the current query includes more than 300 dump lines. That can happen if your dump file was created by some tool which doesn't place a semicolon followed by a linebreak at the end of each query, or if your dump contains extended inserts. Please read the BigDump FAQs for more infos. I believe the file does contain Extended Inserts, however I have no way to regenerate the database as it has been deleted from the old server. How can I import this database or convert it to be imported? Thanks for any help. Best Nick EDIT: It appears the only viable answer is to separate the extended inserts, but I still need help figuring out how to split the file as the answer below suggests. Please help. Thank you.

• How to parse a string to an integer without library functions?

  Hi, I was recently asked this question in an interview: "How could you parse a string of the form '12345' into its integer representation 12345 without using any library functions, and regardless of language?" I thought of two answers, but the interviewer said there was a third. Here are my two solutions: Solution 1: Keep a dictionary which maps '1' = 1, '2' = 2, etc. Then parse the string one character at a time, look up the character in your dictionary, and multiply by place value. Sum the results. Solution 2: Parse the string one character at a time and subtract '0' from each character. This will give you '1' - '0' = 0x1, '2' - '0' = 0x2, etc. Again, multiply by place value and sum the results. Can anyone think of what a third solution might be? Thanks.

• JQuery identify current CSS background-image in three-state icon/button?

  Hi I have three images being used to indicate an application icon state and I'm attempting to use css to do this. No problem with the original or hover states: #myDIV { background-image: url(icons/homeBlack.png); } #myDIV:hover { background-image: url(icons/homeWhite.png); } but I need to do two other things: 1) when the item is clicked it should use the third image $("#myDIV").click(function(event){ // change this button $(this).css("background-image", "url(icons/homeBlue.png)"); }); 2) if it is clicked again it should not apply the third image again because it's already applied - so it needs to check if it has been applied My questions are: 1) simply am I missing a css trick somewhere or is Jquery the best way to do this? 2) can I check which background-image is in place and how? I can't seem to find anything in JQuery that would allow me to determine which image is "currently" in place. Thanks in advance for any help.

• File/Property rename problem in Visual Studio and Explorer

  I am running Windows 7. In Visual Studio, if I try to rename a file by right-click/rename, it behaves as normal for a couple of seconds, then switches out of edit mode. A similar problem occurs when I try to change a property, for example the name of a control. When I click in the property value, I can start editing, but then it assumes the edit is complete, and if I continue typing it overwrites the text. It does this every couple of seconds, so, for example, if I want to name a control mnuFile, I might get mn, then uFi, then le. S, the control ends upgetting called whatever I typed in the last 2-3 characters. I have the same problem with file rename in Explorer. Looks to me as though some timeout is kicking in and terminating the edit. Well, I was going to try a 'Repair install', but that's not an option in Windows 7! So, I went through the re-install, up to the point where I thought is was going to trash my install, and then cancelled it! By some miracle, that has fixed the problem!#Thanks for the advice about ShellExView, I'll try that next time it happens. Thanks for the answers guys! In my view it is more a Visual Studio issue, since it affects both file renames and properties in VS. In Explorer it only affects file rename, which is (just slightly) less annoying!
