• Display ñ on a C# .NET application

  I have a localization issue. One of my industrious coworkers has replaced all the strings throughout our application with constants that are contained in a dictionary. That dictionary gets various strings placed in it once the user selects a language (English by default, but target languages are German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Mandarin, and Thai). For our test of this functionality, we wanted to change a button to include text which has a ñ character, which appears both in Spanish and in the Arial Unicode MS font (which we're using throughout the application). Problem is, the ñ is appearing as a square block, as if the program did not know how to display it. When I debug into that particular string being read from disk, the debugger reports that character as a square block as well. So where is the failure? I think it could be in a few places: 1) Notepad may not be unicode aware, so the ñ displayed there is not the same as what vs2008 expects, and so the program interprets the character as a square (EDIT: notepad shows the same characters as vs; ie, they both show the ñ. In the same place.). 2) vs2008 can't handle ñ. I find that very, very hard to believe. 3) The text is read in properly, but the default font for vs2008 can't display it, which is why the debugger shows a square. 4) The text is not read in properly, and I should use something other than a regular StreamReader to get strings. 5) The text is read in properly, but the default String class in C# doesn't handle ñ well. I find that very, very hard to believe. 6) The version of Arial Unicode MS I have doesn't have ñ, despite it being listed as one of the 50k characters by http://www.fileinfo.info. Anything else I could have left out? Thanks for any help!

• How to extend WPF hit testing zone for a Path object.

  Wpf hit testing is pretty good but the only method I found to extend the hit zone is to put a transparent padding area around your object. I can't find any method to add a transparent area arround a Path object. The path is very thin and I would like to enable hit testing if the user clicks near the path. I can't find any method to extend the path object with a transparent area like the image below : I tried to used a partially transparent stroke brush but I ran into the problem described here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1412833/how-can-i-draw-a-soft-line-in-wpf-presumably-using-a-lineargradientbrush I also tried to put an adorner over my line but because of WPF anti-aliasing algorithms, the position is way off when I zoom in my canvas and interfere with other objects hit-testing in a bad way.   Okay I'm kindoff new to the .NET platform. And currently i'm learning ASP MVC. Do i need to install a virtual smtp server or something?. • jquery newbie: combine validate with hidding submit button.

Specifically, if validate fails after the Submit button is clicked (which happens given how the form works), then I can't get the form submitted again unless I do a browser refresh that resets the 'clicked' property. How can I rewrite the second method above to not set the clicked property unless the form validates? Thx.

• Flash CS5 and dynamic textfields

  I have a "shell" that started life in Flash CS3 (Flash 9, AS3) that has been since used with CS4 and now CS5. It creates TextFields in ActionScript for display (reading the content of those fields from XML). The text fields are either Myriad Pro Regular or Myriad Pro Semibold, both are embedded in the SWF from the Library (any given text field will only use one of those fonts) and using Advanced anti-aliasing. Once a FLA goes into CS5 is still has the same problem when saved back into CS4. The problem is the spacing between letters are now quite random, and the width of each text field is too wide (by about 10%). Changing the letterSpacing property (to something negative) makes this more noticeable. I read on here about Font.registerFont(MyriadPro) but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. Does anyone know how to make CS5 behave like previous versions of Flash? I'm using Flash Professional on Snow Leopard (as part of CS5 Web Premium).

• Beginner question about CSS and layout and height

  Hi, I'm trying to create a very simple page that contains a container, a header, a left column and a footer: [containter] [header /] [content /] [leftBar /] [footer /] [/containter] (Sorry, I cannot paste the code properly, only appears the tag "body" and the rest disapears :S ... ) As you can see, very simple stuff. I want to use the 100% of the height, as I can do with the width, but I simply don`t get it work :S At his moment I'm using min-height, but how could I use the height:100% ? What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. • zend_captcha always fails isValid()

  Hi, I've got an issue with Zend_Captcha always returning false when the page is submitted and the captcha's isValid() method is being called. It's driving my nuts because this as far as I am concerned should work. • How do I prevent jagged edges alongside the surfaces of my 3d model?

  Lets say I've implemented in openGL a crude model viewer with shading which renders a series of blocks, such that I have something that looks like this. http://i.imgur.com/TsF7K.jpg Whenever I rotate my model to the side, it causes an unwanted jagged effect along any surface with a steep viewing angle. http://i.imgur.com/Bgl9o.jpg I'm pretty sure this is due to the polygon offset I used to prevent z-fighting between the model and the wireframe, however I'm not able to find the factor/unit parameters in openGL which prevent this unwanted effect. what are the best values of factor and unit for glPolygonOffset to prevent this? would implementing anti-aliasing alleviate the problem? is the trade off in performance trivial/significant? is this perhaps a shading issue? should i try a solution along this line of thought?

  I'm trying to create an image with some text on it and I want the image's size to match the size of the rendered text. When I use System.Windows.Forms.TextRenderer.MeasureText(...) to measure the text, I get dimensions that include font padding. When the text is rendered, it seems to use the same padding. Is there any way to determine the size of a string of text and then render it without any padding?   I'm trying to do something very simple: I need some parallelograms in my program. These are attached to other objects, all of which are UIViews. It's important that I be able to animate these, since the objects they are attached to can also be animated. I've figured out how to use the transform in UIView/CALayer to do this, but the problem is that these sheared UIViews don't look very nice: there is no anti-aliasing of the edges. Is there some other way to do this? I would like to use UIViews, since I also use them for user interaction and animation is so much easier than drawing by hand. I don't want to use OpenGL for this.

  Hi, I am developing contactus webpage which have a input field called Email. It is validated against a required field validator and regular expression validator with appropriate messages. For Ex: If I leave email as empty space and press submit, Enter Email is displaying right next to it. If I enter invalid email(xxx), Enter Email is off but taking the space, Invalid Email message is displayed after these space taken by 'Enter Email' before. Is there any way to remove this space?? • Firefox and IE - Firefox handling of <span> inside tables (html and css)

  Hello, I am having difficulties getting a span tag to work properly inside a table. It appears as if the entire span tag is being ignored that is defined anywhere in between table tags in firefox, but in IE this shows up correctly. Maybe I am missing something, but I have created a small example css and html file that displays differently in Firefox and IE.
