  • Weird behaviour with OpenVPN: can not connect to a few websites

    My OpenVPN server is Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS and openvpn version is 2.x My client is on Win 7. He can access most sites but not Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, groups.google.com, etc My server.conf is: local x.x.x.x port 1194 proto udp dev tun ca /etc/openvpn/keys/ca.crt cert /etc/openvpn/keys/server.crt key /etc/openvpn/keys/server.key dh /etc/openvpn/keys/dh1024.pem server 10.8.0.0 255.255.255.0 push "redirect-gateway def1" push "dhcp-option DNS 8.8.8.8" client-to-client keepalive 10 120 comp-lzo persist-key persist-tun status /etc/openvpn/keys/openvpn-status.log verb 4 I can access Youtube etc using SSH Tunnel + SOCKS Proxy, and the Ubuntu server can access all sites. so nothing is wrong with the Ubuntu server. With little information I can provide, I am not looking for a quck solution. How can I debug?

    I understand that cubes are optimized data structures for aggregating and "slicing" large amounts of data. I just don't know how they are implemented. I can imagine a lot of this technology is proprietary, but are there any resources that I could use to start implementing my own cube technology? Set theory and lots of math are probably involved (and welcome as suggestions!), but I'm primarily interested in implementations: the data structures and query algorithms. Thanks!

  • How do I use an SSH public key from a remote machine?

    Setup The public keys are set up on a Macbook. I can do a passwordless push to github and a server (iMac) on the local network. The Problem I know the keys are partially setup correctly, because I everything works if I'm sitting at the Macbook. What doesn't work is when I SSH into the Macbook remotely and attempt to push to github or to the iMac server. I'm prompted to input my SSH key passphrase. What am I missing to enable pushing to github from the Macbook while logged in remotely from the iMac?

  • Can't run Ubuntu from disc

    When I place the boot CD in my CD drive and boot from it, I get the Ubuntu menu. I have these options Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer Install Ubuntu Check disc for defects Test memory Boot from first hard disk I can use the cursor keys to select them, and I can push F1 for help etc. However, I can not select an option. I've highlighted the first and tried enter, space bar etc. I do have a KVM, so I plugged in a 2nd USB keyboard and tried it but no go either. I can push escape and then got to the prompt. Am I doing something wrong?

    I want to check 10+ local Git repositories if they have any unpushed commit, before shutdown. (I always forgot to push them, so later, the next morning I came office and back home again) I think maybe the shutdown process can check some conditions to meet, if any condition is not met, then give the user the choice to continue to shutdown or just cancel. Then, I can write something to hook the shutdown to check my Git repository to push. EDIT I have changed the title from Ubuntu shutdown hook to Compiz shutdown hook. I want to hook to the small lovely shutdown button, rather then click another ugly shortcut icon on the desktop.

  • How to store etckeeper repositories on a central server via git

    Hello, I would like to have one central git repository for all my servers' etckeeper .git repos. Here the suggestion was to use a file in /etc/etckeeper/commit.d, which basically looks like this, assuming that a git repo had been set up in somedir on somehost: #!/bin/sh cd /etc git push faruser@farhost:somedir The problem with this is, that it would be really nice to have all servers in the same repo on the central server. I tried git push faruser@farhost:somedir/server1 but that failed. As you can see, I've never worked with git before ...     Background: We have one pretty slow and expensive satellite Internet connection that is shared in a network with 5-50 users. To limit traffic, users shall pay a certain sum of money per hour. Routing and traffic accounting on user basis is done by a opensuse 10.3 server. Login is done via pppoe, and for each connection, username, bytes_sent, bytes_rcvd, start_time, end_time,etc are written into a mysql database. Now it was decided that we want to change from time-based to volume-based pricing. As the original developer who installed the system a couple of years ago isn't available, I'm trying to do the changes. Although I'm absolutely new to all this, there is some progress. However, there's one point I'm absolutely stuck. Up to now, only administrators can access connection details and billing information via a web interface. But as volume-based prices are less transparent to users than time-based prices, it is essential that users themselves can check their connections and how much they cost via the web interface. For this, we need some kind of user authentication. Actual question: How to develop such a user authentication? Every user has a linux system user account. With this user name and password, connection to the pppoe-server is made by the client machines. I thought about two possibles ways to authenticate users: First possibility: Users type username and password in a form. This is then somehow checked. We already have to possibilities to change passwords via the web interface. The second possibility I see: all pppoe connections are logged in the mysql database. If I could somehow retrieve the username (or uid) of the user connected by pppoe, this could be used to authenticate users. Users could only check their internet connections and costs when they are online (and thus paying money), but this could be tolerated. Here's a line of the script that inserts connections into the database: my $username = $ENV{PEERNAME}; I thought it would be easy to use this variable, but $username seems to be always empty in test-scripts (print $username). Any idea how to retrieve the user connected to the pppoe server? Sorry for the long question! Any help would be very much appreciated. :)

    I have just installed Gitolite and Gitlab and I am very happy with it. Everything works fine so far. I can create repos, push to them, clone them on other clients on the network. Great! But now I wanted to do some post-receive hooks. I.e. when I push to some repo, this repo should be checked out on the server in the /var/www/repos directory. I did this with Gitlabs Deploy Hooks and this Endpoint-Script. The problem is that the scripts are run under the user "www-data" which has no access to gitlab/gitolite. How do I change this? I need to be able to checkout repos with www-data user and using git@server/repo.git syntax.

    Consider the following situation. A remote repository has two branches master and b1. In addition it has two clones repo1 and repo2 and both have b1 checked out. At some point, in repo1 the name of b1 was changed. As far as I can tell, the following is the right procedure to change the name of b1: $ git branch b1 b2 # changes the name of b1 to b2 $ git push remote :b1 # delete b1 remotely $ git push --set-upstream origin b2 # create b2 remotely and direct the local branch to track the remote 1 Now, afterwards, in repo2 I face a problem. git pull doesn't pull the changes from the branch (which is now called remotely b2). The error returned is: Your configuration specifies to merge with the ref 'b1' from the remote, but no such ref was fetched. What is the right way to do this? Both the renaming part and the updating in other clones?

    I set up a new ec2 ubuntu server and I'm unable to use rsync to push a file up. I can ssh to the machine with my keypair. The client gets an IP (10.8.0.6) from the server OpenVPN client is started as an administrator. But: I cannot ping the other one on either side. 'Gateway' value is empty on client's side (in the adapter's "status" window). Client has got no internet access when the link is up. Ideal configuration: I only want the client to be able to use the server's Internet access and access its resources (MySQL server in particular). I do not need or want the server to access the client's local network. The client needs to be able to access it's local network, although all Internet traffic should be redirected to the VPN link. I spent a considerable amount of time on this but it's still not working, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

  • Reocurring unpack failed on git repo improted from svn

    I have a git repo created from svn with git-svn. Everything converted just fine, but from time to time, when I try to git push, I get: error: unpack failed: unpack-objects abnormal exit Other repos on our server (created from scratch or imported from svn) work fine. The solution is usually to unstage, commit and push files one by one, modify the one that fails (e.g. add a whitespace or something) and commit it once again. It's obviously very irritating, for big commits it's a productivity killer - and requires a lot of server pushes. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on where to look, I couldn't google anything up.

  • Google analytics and multiple independent subdomains

    I need some help trying to setup google analytics correct. Here is my setup: We host sites for multiple customers, and each customer have their own subdomain on our site. So we have customerA.oursite.com and customerB.oursite.com As we add more customers we get more subdomains. We do want to track all data for each customer independent, but I don't want to to create a new google tracking code for each new customer. So my plan is to track all visits with "oursite.com", and then I will create a filter in google Analytics to get data for each specific customer(All visits for a specific subdomain). Is this(One tracking code, and a subdomain filter) the right way to do it? To create a subdomain filter i add a new profile for each customer, and then add a custom filter saying include "Request URI" and fill in "CustomerDomain.oursite.com". Is this the correct way to do it? And a general question about filters: Is it really impossible to create a new filter by applying it to data in an existing profile? I would really like to just collect all the data in one "main" profile and then create subdomain filters as we need them. But it seems that google only apply filters to new incomming data, not existing data. Is this really true? The following is my tracking code.
