• Windows Shares / NTFS permissions on folder redirection in Active Directory

  A client has folder redirection in AD setup on each user's Home Folder set to the Z:\ drive as \server\share\username. A Group Policy redirects the user's Documents to the user's Home Folder with the option 'Grant the user to exclusive rights to Documents' selected. The share on the server has permissions for the relevant user security group with 'Full Control', but each user's folder only have NTFS permissions only for 'CREATOR OWNER' and 'Domain Admins'. Why can the different users access other user's folders? I thought the most restrictive permissions applied effectively between the share and the NTFS permissions. Also, this setup has been like this for years, and this client recently updated all client computers to Windows 7. What is the best way to setup this redirection now? I assume only in Group Policy, also Basic Redirection - to create a folder for each user under the root path?

• Goal Tracking data seems to be inaccurate?

  I setup some Goal Tracking about one week ago. I had multiple goals in one set. The goal itself was the "send" button being pressed on the callback form (i did that by pushing a pageview to Google Analytics everytime the send button is pressed) For each goal, i listed the first step as a required step. So for example, the ILR Page was step 1 and set as required and the goal was "/CallbackFormFilled" Looking at the stats a week later i'm getting some very inflated numbers especially when comparing them to my manually filled excel spreadsheet and i'm struggling to understand the cause of this behaviour. I'm unable to attach screenshots unfortunately since my StackExchange account for this site is brand new My own thoughts My own thoughts were that maybe its because i have setup multiple goals with the same end goal URL, but i thought that was a valid setup since i want to track multiple routes so to speak(?) I've disabled all other goals for now to confirm this, but im waiting for stats to come in as i write this. I also wonder if the contact form im using in Wordpress is causing a problem, but i've simply added one javascript line on the send button that pushes a pageview so not sure if that should cause an issue. • Does kern.hz still have any relevance in FreeBSD if "dynamic tick mode" is enabled?

  I'm running a FreeBSD 9.0 setup as a virtual machine in a KVM setup. In previous versions of FreeBSD it was common to force the kern.hz setting to a lower value so that the virtual machine does not keep the host busy because it's handling timer interrupts without having any work to do - the FreeBSD Handbook explains: The most important step is to reduce the kern.hz tunable to reduce the CPU utilization of FreeBSD under the Parallels environment. This is accomplished by adding the following line to /boot/loader.conf: kern.hz=100 Without this setting, an idle FreeBSD Parallels guest OS will use roughly 15% of the CPU of a single processor iMac®. After this change the usage will be closer to a mere 5%. However, in FreeBSD 9, the "dynamic tick mode" (aka "tickless mode") is the default, controlled by the kern.eventtimer.periodic setting which defaults to 0 (read: tickless mode). This makes me wonder - does the tip of lowering kern.hz still have any relevance for making FreeBSD 9 play nicely in a virtual machine setup?

• IIS 6.0 FTP Folder Permissions

  I have a IIS FTP website setup like this \ftp\users\domain\public\public Software that runs on clients computers logs into the FTP server by specifying domain\public and moving to public, it then uploads or downloads files / folders into that area. I want to restrict permissions on \ftp\users\domain\public so that nothing/nobody can write files or folders here, only to \ftp\users\domain\public\public. I setup the NTFS permissions of the folder to remove domain\users, public and server\users to not have modify right, yet I can still upload/modify files. I have disabled inheritance from the parent folder of \ftp\users\domain\public as well. Any ideas on what I'm missing here? P.S I know this is a stupid setup and makes no sense, it's some bizarre legacy application that I need to migrate to a safer environment until it can be replaced.

  I got Lenova B460e laptop yesterday (by TN Govt). It has WINDOWS 7 Proff….. Setup it up the way I liked it... all software drivers and all. I wanted extra drives, so I entered the WINDOWS diskadmin and changed my partition setup, by splitting and I did the partition setup in the installing proces, so I splitted my harddisk into 4 parts. So far so good. When I rebooted, I entered GRUB RESCUE MODE. In this mode I know the only command “ls”. Which gives like (hd0) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos4) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1). In this Lap I do not have CD drive also, otherwise I could have done Format the OS and installed new OS using WINDOWS 7 CD. Now I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Anyone an idea how to fix this?

• How to get working cups command line tools on Server 14.04

  It looks like some of the commands like lpr and lprm have broken versions that don't work with cups. These commands worked properly on 10.04. lpr for cups has an -o option, but no lpr is intalled when cups is installed, and the lpr installed with apt-get install lpr does not have the -o option and does not appear to be the cups version of lpr. man lpr shows BSD General Commands Manual at the top, where man lpr on the Ubuntu 10.04 server said Apple, inc in the same spot. which leads me to believe the "wrong" lpr is in the "lpr" package or package names got moved around. There is also a lprng package, but trying to install it wants to remove cups and cups-client. lprm also returns lprm: PrinterName: unknown printer when PrinterName is in fact a valid printer installed with cups and does appear in lpstat -t. How do I get the proper cups versions of lpr working on Server 14.04?

  I started up Eclipse today, created a new project, and immediately had an error before I had changed a single line: Error generating final archive: Debug Certificate expired on 11/12/11 When installed, the Android SDK generates a "debug" signing certificate for you in a file called "debug.keystore". Eclipse uses this certificate rather than forcing you to create a new one for every project. In older versions of Eclipse, the certificate was only valid for 365 days, but as I understand it the default has been changed to 30 years in newer versions. If for whatever reason you don't want to upgrade Eclipse, you can manually delete the certificate to for Eclipse to generate a new one. You can find the location in Preferences -> Android -> Build -> Default debug keystore (mine was in C:\Users\myUserName\.android\); just delete the "debug.keystore" file, then go back into Eclipse and Clean the project to generate a new file.

• smtp sasl authentication failure

  hello, I have configured and fixed almost all the problems with my postfix +courier + mysql setup for virtual mailboxes. I can now receive mail and send it from webmail (squirrel). BUT, what I can't do is authenticate from outside client. Since my isp blocks port 25 I setup postfix to work on 1025 for smtp and setup verbose loging. Here is the verbose log of a failed authentication process LOG Authentication for imap and pop3 seem to be working but this one is not. Here is the postconf -n output. Also through mysql I can verify that it is trying to validate through the system, running a query that returns the encrypted password stored in the database. I can't seem to find the error for this. thank you in advance

• How to create portable applications?

  In Ubuntu can you create a portable application and have it work on an os like suse 10.x via USB stick? I'm not sure if this can be done or not, how to do it or if it would be compatible, any advice is greatly welcomed. I need to make a portable version of Stellarium and have it work in Suse 10.x. I haven't been able portable linux versions. I'm pretty sure there can be portable versions of applications since you can run a program like TOR on it.

• Hyper-V networking....still not sure which way to go??

  We have our Hyper-V server up and running (Windows 2008 ENT SP2) and started to create some of our VMs. The server has 4 total nics. 2 onboard Broadcom 1gb nic cards and a pci dual port Intel Pro cards 1gb. Right now, I have setup 1 broadcom nic to be the hyper-v host nic, and setup the other broadcom nic for the VMs. We are not using the Intel Nics....should we be thinking about teaming?Link Aggregation?? I just want to achieve the best possible setup for the network, but have read many things for and against teaming the nics?? Thoughts?

  I am trying to setup Anywhere Access on a Windows Server 2012 Essential Release Candidate, but keep getting this error: "The domain name was not setup for your server. Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again. An unknown error occurred. Please wait a few minutes and then try again". These are the options that I selected in the Wizard: I want to set up a new domain name Get a personalized domain name from Microsoft Entered my Windows live id and password xxxx.remotewebaccess.com And on the next page the error is displayed. I have setup my router (Linksys WRT160N) to forward all TCP traffic to the Server. UPnP is also enabled. If I hit my public (dynamic) IP (http://188.182.194.182/) I get the Windows Server 2012 homepage. Any ideas?

• SSH Proxy (SOCKS) through remote computer - TCP & DNS

  My problem: Need DNS to be resolved through my remote machine. So I have a REMOTE that I can access from LOCAL via SERVER. This REMOTE can access a host TARGET_HOST. TARGET_HOST is setup in REMOTE's host file like so: 123.123.123.123 TARGET_HOST I want to be able to access (in the browser & my application) TARGET_HOST from LOCAL. I have setup a 'proxy' like so: LOCAL to SERVER: ssh -L 4567:LOCAL:4568 user@SERVER SERVER to REMOTE: ssh -D 4568 user@REMOTE LOCAL's network config is setup to use a proxy on localhost through port 4567. So, everything is great and I can see TARGET_HOST in my browser. The problem I have is that the DNS doesn't resolve from LOCAL and therefore some code I have going on in my application, fails. Can anyone help me? Can anyone suggest a better method?

  I currently have a Postfix/Dovecot setup, but our server is hitting capacity, so we decided to switch to Google Apps. However, we have certain web applications that need to send and receive e-mail directly (for example, e-mail being redirected to a script). What I want to do is host certain e-mail accounts with Google Apps, while my current server continues to manage other e-mail accounts. I assume this means that I would use my current server as an Inbound/Outbound Gateway, so my questions are: 1) How do I setup Postfix as an Outbound Gateway without making it an (insecure) open relay? 2) How do I setup Postfix as an Inbound Gateway so that only certain e-mail addresses are forwarded to Google Apps?   What i want ? We operate in a small team of 9 people including developers, QA and designers. I want to setup a version control. We have a ubuntu (server edition) and i want to host all our repositories there. I have no understanding that even if it is possible. What I have done? We have setup bazaar on all distributions. We are using Bazaar explorer as our gui front-end. The command edition from console isn't very comfortable to all members. We have gone through the manual, but it hasn't been very helpful. Our inexperience being the cause. Team The designers are using windows distribution and developers & QA are using ubuntu distributions. I have googled around and i am really struggling to find a good tutorial for this setup. So any links/guides/leads towards accomplishing the same would be very helpful. • How do I use apt-get to update to the latest kernel?

  My current kernel is 3.2.0-26 (my main computer) while on another of my Ubuntu computers, with which I didn't fiddle with unofficial updates, it's 3.2.0-30. Yet the Update manager on my main computer doesn't show available kernel updates. It shows other updates though. I suspect is due to the fact that in the past I installed multiple mainline kernel versions (not recommended versions), up to 3.5* series. What I'm after: Either: Fix automatic kernel updates. Or: Learn about a way to check for the latest official ubuntu kernel version and get it manually (I know how to install kernels from debs) What I have already tried: Uninstalled unused kernels including "the generic one without a number" as per http://askubuntu.com/a/103875/29347 and then also https://ubuntugenius.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/ubuntu-cleanup-how-to-remove-all-unused-linux-kernel-headers-images-and-modules/

• Video crashes with 10.10

  I have installed both the 64bit and 32 bit versions of 10.10 on my Compaq Presario PC. I first installed the 64 bit version of the OS.The video often crashed when switching user. It also went haywire occasionally when I visited some web-sites. I read that there may be some problems with the 64 bit OS. So I installed the 32 bit version on another disk. This version seemed even less well behaved. HP's model number for the computer is SR1838NX. The hardware is listed at http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00628274&lang=en&cc=us&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=1841793&prodTypeId=12454&printver=true#A0 I think the important info is that the chip set is "ATI Radeon Xpress 200" and the processor is "Athlon 64 (S) 3700+ 2.2 GHz" Has anyone else had video problems with similar machines? Is there a work around or an update? I have had previous versions of Ubuntu working on this machine and other flavors of Linux as well. Thanks in advance. John

  (in via Nancy) Customers using EPM 11.1.2.3 and a web browser to launch the Essbase Administration Services Console will lose the ability to launch EAS Console via the Web URL if they apply Java 1.7 build 45. Development is currently investigating this issue. Workaround: If Java 1.7 Update 45 has been installed, it will need to be uninstalled and a previous version will need to be installed. Older versions of Java are available in the Java Archive Note: Though it may work, Java 1.7 is not supported in previous versions of EAS.
