  Hi there, I am looking for an alternative to using an object/variable in global scope -- I would like to associate key/value pairs with specific DOM elements (eg, a DIV), so that I can use them as input for logic that processes other elements (eg, child elements of said DIV). I tried something naive like: $('[foo=bar]').key='value' , and $('[foo=bar]')[key]='value', but it puked. Doing something like: var foobar = $('[foo=bar]'); foobar.key = 'value' -- works, but the new property/value only affects the new object (ie, foobar, not $('[foo=bar]')) Most likely there's something terribly basic I am overlooking. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  I am trying to figure out how I want to handle settings in my PHP app. I have pretty much decide that I would like to use a Confg class file so it will be autoloaded and flexible in the future. Below is some stuff I was playing with. I know you cannot set a variable to popluate a Constant so I then try to use a public static property.   I'm trying to do something like this: private class aClass { private ArrayList<String> idProd; aClass(ArrayList<String> prd) { this.idProd=new ArrayList<String>(prd); } public ArrayList<String> getIdProd() { return this.idProd; } } So if I have multiple instances of ArrayLIst<String> (st1 ,st2 ,st3) and I want to make new objects of aClass: { aClass obj1,obj2,obj3; obj1=new aClass(st1); obj2=new aClass(st2); obj3=new aClass(st3); } Will all of the aClass objects return st3 if I access the method getIdProd() for each of them(obj1..obj3)? Is an ArrayList as an instance variable automatically declared static?

  I have this code below. As you can see I am passing two variables along with the link. The second variabye (category) works whenever it consists of one word, but some categories are two words or more, and then on the receiving php page where I fetch the variable only the first word is fetched. Any ideas? Example: I pass along this: Rims & Tires Only this comes through: Rims $display_table .= "<a href='../ad.php?ad_id=$row[ad_id]&category=$row[category]' target='_parent'>"; Here is how I fetch it in the receiving php file (which the link is to): $cat = $_GET['category']; echo $cat; //displays only first word of multiple word categories. • How to Create an Array from a Single Variable and Form Multiple Foreach Loops?

  I'm fairly proficient in HTML/CSS, but very new when it comes to the likes of PHP and Javascript. I've jumped headfirst into coding Wordpress shortcodes (basically php functions), and so far, through trial and error and seemingly endless browser refreshes, I've been able to figure everything out. I just hit a huge wall though, hence why I'm here. Basically, I'm trying to give an attribute a list of values like: attr="23, 95, 136, ect" The function then needs to take that attribute variable and create an array with it: $arr = array($attr); To me that seems as if it would work, but the array takes the whole list as one value instead. After doing that I want to create a foreach loop that parses each number from the list, possibly through yet another foreach loop if possible, and returns a section of code for each one, and I'm not quite sure how to pull that off either. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

• Why does C++ allow variable length arrays that aren't dynamically allocated?

  I'm relatively new to C++, and from the beginning it's been drilled into me that you can't do something like int x; cin >> x; int array[x]; Instead, you must use dynamic memory. However, I recently discovered that the above will compile (though I get a -pedantic warning saying it's forbidden by ISO C++). I know that it's obviously a bad idea to do it if it's not allowed by the standard, but I previously didn't even know this was possible. My question is, why does g++ allow variable length arrays that aren't dynamically allocated if it's not allowed by the standard? Also, if it's possible for the compiler to do it, why isn't it in the standard?

  A rough definition of a data structure is that it allows you to store data and apply a set of operations on that data while preserving consistency of data before and after the operation. However some people insist that a primitive variable like 'int' can also be considered as a data structure. I get that part where it allows you to store data but I guess the operation part is missing. Primitive variables don't have operations attached to them. So I feel that unless you have a set of operations defined and attached to it you cannot call it a data structure. 'int' doesn't have any operation attached to it, it can be operated upon with a set of generic operators. Please advise if I got something wrong here.

  I don't seem to be able to pass a variable to my partial template in rails (2.3.5). My code is as follows; In the main view .html.erb file: <% f.fields_for :payments do |payment_form| %> <%= render 'payment', {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } %> <% end %> and in the _payment.html.erb file: <%= t %> produces a wrong number of arguments (0 for 1) error. The payment_form object is being passed to the partial as f without any problems. I've tried a number of variations on the above syntax (e.g. :locals => {:f => payment_form, :t => "test" } without success. I presume I'm doing something pretty basic wrong but just can't see it.

• Which tool can list writing access to a specific variable in C?

  Unfortunately I'm not even sure how this sort of static analysis is called. It's not really control flow analysis because I'm not looking for function calls and I don't really need data flow analysis because I don't care about the actual values. I just need a tool that lists the locations (file, function) where writing access to a specific variable takes place. I don't even care if that list contained lines that are unreachable. I could imagine that writing a simple parser could suffice for this task but I'm certain that there must be a tool out there that does this simple analysis. As a poor student I would appreciate free or better yet open source tools and if someone could tell me how this type of static analysis is actually called, I would be equally grateful! EDIT: I forgot to mention there's no pointer arithmetic in the code base.

This is what I have done so far: my $num=0x5514ddb7; my $s=pack('I!',$num); print "$s\n"; He prints it out as some non-printable characters and in a hex editor it looks right, but how can I get it readable on the console? Already tried print sprintf("%#x\n",$s); but he complains about an non-numeric argument, so I think pack returns a string. Any ideas how can I print out `0xb7dd1455 on the console, based on $num?

  I'm constructing a class where I have three member variables that I want to always be the same value NO MATTER WHAT. I have class foo{ public: double var_1, var_2, var_3; double x=1, y=2, z=3; [functions go here] }; that gave me an error since I can't initialize a variable like that. But I want x, y and z to always be 1, 2 and 3 respectively. I tried defining them outside the class but that doesn't work since I want them to be member variables of the class. How do I do this?

  Hello, I have a shopping cart in Codeigniter in which products are added to the cart using (jQuery) Ajax. In the header of each page it displays the number of contents in the cart using <?php echo $this->cart->total_items(); ?> How can I update/refresh this variable when a product is added to the cart, as I am using AJAX to add products to the cart and thus the page isn't being reloaded when products are added. It seems pointless to use AJAX to do asyncronous stuff if I have to reload the page to get the new number of total items from the server. Many thanks.

  So if I have a recursive function with a global variable var_: int var_; void foo() { if(var_ == 3) return; else var_++; foo(); } and then I have a function that calls foo() so: void bar() { foo(); return; } what is the best way to set var_ =0 everytime foo is called thats not from within itself. I know I could just do: void bar() { var_ =0; foo(); return; } but I'm using the recursive function a lot and I don't want to call foo and forget to set var_=0 at a later date. I know I can use ffmpeg to grab the duration, but I need to be able to save that output as a variable back in python. Print doesn't work, select doesn't work. Somebody said I have to insert it to a table first, and then get it after I run the stored procedure. Is this really necessary? • If I'm projecting with linq and not using a range variable what is the proper syntax?

  I have a query that sums and aggregates alot of data something like this: var anonType = from x in collection let value = collection.Where(c=>c.Code == "A") select new { sum = value.Sum(v=>v.Amount) }; I find it really weird that I have to declare the range variable x, especially if I'm not using it. So, am I doing something wrong or is there a different format I should be following? Also, keep in mind that anonType has about 15 different properties that are all types of aggregates (sums,counts, etc). So I couldn't do something like: int x = collection.Where(c=>c.Code == "A").Sum(v=>v.Amount);
