  • File structure for PHP-based website.

    I'm building a PHP-based web app for the first time and I haven't found anything to pattern it after. At this point I'm mostly curious about how the files should be arranged into directories so that development of the website can be manageable. This includes javascript scripts, images, stylesheets, cgi scripts, html files, pure php files that define common functions, etc. Question: Can someone point me to an explanation about how such a website is typically organized on the server?

  • python open does not create file if it doesnt exist

    I am using Python. What is the best way to open a file in rw if it exists, or if it does not, then create it and open it in rw? From what i read, file = open('myfile.dat', 'rw') should do this, no? it is not working for me (python 2.6.2) and im wondering if it is a version problem, or not supposed to work like that or what. The bottom line is, i just need a solution for the problem. I am curious about the other stuff, but all i need is a nice way to do the opening part. thanks in advance

  • How to give 'Everybody' full rights to a file (programmatically)

    I'm modifying an old C++ program to run on Vista. It does not require Admin privileges. I've changed the code to put logfiles in \ProgramData\MyApp\. These logfiles are written with the stdio functions (fopen, fprintf, fclose). Here's the problem: UserA runs the program first, it creates \ProgramData\MyApp\MyLogFile.txt UserB runs the program next, it tries to append to MyLogFile.txt and gets access denied. I tried creating a null SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR and passing that to CreateFile(). That does create a file with "no permissions assigned", but it seems as if the first user to write to the file takes ownership and afterwards all the other non-admin users are out of luck. It's important that all users share the same logfiles, but it's also important that I change as little code as possible.

    I am trying to install an application and a group of services using PSTools, but I want to take into account that the computer I am trying to connect to may be turned off or on a different network, which is not reachable from the internal network. Basically if the machine is not able to be accessed through the admin share, this is the message that I am getting: Couldn't access MachineName: The network path was not found. Make sure that the default admin$ share is enabled on MachineName. This is the syntax I am using to try to capture the "Error Message" and then report back that if installation was successful or not (depending on if it can contact the machine) @echo off set /p name=What is the machine name?: psexec.exe \\\%name% -u *useraccount* -p *password* \\\ServerName\installation.bat FOR /F "tokens=*" %%A IN ('COMMAND ^| FIND "Couldn't access"') DO SET Error=%%A If "%Error%"=="Couldn't access" ECHO Installation Failed.   • Calling class in Java after editing file used in as source for table

    I'm currently working on a project, I'll try to subrscibe first. I save data into text file, that I use as a source for browser of that data. The browser is based on table that contains the data. I have to rewrite the source file everytime I delete or edit data. That's where the problem comes in. After deleting or editing data I call a method to create the table again, but the table never creates. Is it possibly made by editing the file and calling the method right after that? If I restart my app the table is successfully created with right data. Take in note that I don't get any error message. What would be the best way to do this? Would I read one line from the file and then split each characters separately and transfer it to the new array? Or perhaps read a line, and then read each character and put that in the array? Thanks for any help.

In one project, I can use File.WriteAllBytes(path, Resource1.Image); to dump the resource to disk. In another, Resource1 is does not exist. I've done this before but all I can find is information about localizations (?) when I search MSDN for how to work with Resources.

  • Programatically determining file "size on disk" in advance

    I need to know how big a given in-memory buffer will be as an on-disk (usb stick) file before I write it. I know that unless the size falls on the block size boundary, its likely to get rounded up, e.g. a 1 byte file takes up 4096 bytes on-disk. I'm currently doing this using GetDiskFreeSpace() to work out the disk block size, then using this to calculate the on-disk size like this: GetDiskFreeSpace(szDrive, &dwSectorsPerCluster, &dwBytesPerSector, NULL, NULL); dwBlockSize = dwSectorsPerCuster * dwBytesPerSector; if (dwInMemorySize % dwBlockSize != 0) { dwSizeOnDisk = ((dwInMemorySize / dwBlockSize) * dwBlockSize) + dwBlockSize; } else { dwSizeOnDisk = dwInMemorySize; } Which seems to work fine, BUT GetDiskFreeSpace() only works on disks up to 2GB according to MSDN. GetDiskFreeSpaceEx() doesn't return the same information, so my question is, how else can I calculate this information for drives 2GB? Is there an API call I've missed? Can I assume some hard values depending on the overall disk size?

    There are obvious counterparts for some of file systems' basic operations (eg. ls and rm), but how would you implement not straightforwardly RESTful actions such as cp or mv? As answers to the question REST services - exposing non-data “actions” suggest, the preferred way of implementing cp would include GETting the resource, DELETing it and PUTting it back again with a new name. But what if I would need to do it efficiently? For instance, if the resource's size would be huge? How would I eliminate the superfluous transmission of resource's payload to client and back to the originating server? Here is an illustration. I have a resource: /videos/my_videos/2-gigabyte-video.avi and I want copy it into a new resource: /videos/johns_videos/copied-2-gigabyte-video.avi How would I implement the copy, move or other file system actions the RESTful way? Or is there even a proper way? Am I doing it all wrong?

  • Program output to file in Java (and reading it again)

    I have a large main method in an IO class which creates objects from four different classes in my program (which all use one another to some extent). My main method takes all info in using a scanner, from the console window, and uses this info to call the constructors and methods in the other classes. As this is my first full program in Java I have been focussed on making the main method work via the console, without properly considering file input and output. I cannot see an easy way of making that work now. Ideally what I require is some way of writing everything I input to the console while running the main method to a file, in a format that can be read again and inputed back through the main method? I have refrained from posting the main method as it is 250+ lines long, but will post any relevant parts of it if required. Any help appreciated

    Hi, I have a report in report services 2005 that has two date fields. The problem is that if users run this for a large section of time it uses too much resources on our server. It is possible to only allow the end user to enter the start date and then the end date be auto populated/derived from this field (for example they enter the 1st of a month and this automatically change the end date to the last of a month.)

    I have a general use laptop. I use it for games, development, and web surfing. I've just installed SQL Server 2008 with Analysis, Reporting, and Error reporting, as well as any of the other options on the installer. I also have a default instance of SQL server as well as a named instance. When I'm not doing development, I'd like to shut down these services conveniently. I'm thinking that a batch file would be good. What are the commands to shut these services down and release the associated memory and resources? It appears that: net stop MSSQLSERVER seems to stop the MSSQLSERVER instance. What about the other services?

    I'm looking for a good performance monitoring service for websites. I know about some of the available general monitoring services that check for uptime and notify you about unavailable services. But I'm specifically looking for a service with an emphasis on performance. I.e., I would like to see reports with detailed performance statistics from multiple locations world-wide, with a break-down on how long it took to fetch the different website resources, including third-party scripts such as Google Analytics and so on (the report should contain similar details such as the FireBug Net tab). Are there any such services and if so, which one is the best?

  • Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

    At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did. Error message from log: Product : Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) Product Version (Previous): 1399 Product Version (Final) : Status : Failure Log File : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\OLAP9_Hotfix_KB921896_sqlrun_as.msp.log Error Number : 29528 Error Description : MSP Error: 29528 The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting Internal Properties.   • Putting our OLTP and OLAP services on the same cluster

    We're currently in a bit of a debate about what to do with our scattered SQL environment. We are setting up a cluster for our data warehouses for sure and are now in the process of deciding if our OLTP databases should go on the same one. The cluster will be active/active with database services running on one node and reporting and analytical services on the other node. From a technical standpoint I don't see an issue here. With the services being run on different nodes they shouldn't compete too heavily for resources. The only physical resource that may be an issue would be the shared disk space. Our environment is also quite small. Our biggest OLAP database at the moment is only about 40GB and our OLTP are all under 10GB. I see a potential political issue here as different groups are involved but I'm just strictly wondering if there would be any major technical issues that could arise from this setup.
