  • Core Data - Breaking A Relationship

    - by Garry
Hi, I have a Patient entity and a List entity. A Patient can belong to several different lists and a list can have several different patients. Say I have a patient who belongs to 3 lists (A, B, C). I want to remove the patient from lists A & B. I do not want to delete lists A & B themselves though obviously. How do I go about doing this?

  • Ios Parse Login

    - by user3806600
    I am programming an IOS app that will use parse to login a user. Using storyboard I have the login button connected to another view controller with the push segue. Whether the username and password are correct the button selection always goes to the new view controller. I might be doing this all wrong. Any help is appreciated. Here is my code: - (IBAction)signIn:(id)sender { [PFUser logInWithUsernameInBackground:self.emailField.text password:self.passwordField.text block:^(PFUser *user, NSError *error) { if (!error) { [self performSegueWithIdentifier:@"signIn" sender:nil]; } else { // The login failed. Check error to see why. } }]; }

  • What language/API to use for a standalone live-input audio visualizer app?

    - by knuckfubuck
I develop with Actionscript and was glad to see that AIR 2.0 was going to give access to mic input data. I planned to use this to create a visualizer set to the tempo of the incoming live audio. After doing a few days of google research it seems unlikely that it will be possible to analyze the data of the mic input in Flash/AIR. If anyone has ideas on how I can achieve this in AIR please let me know. (I'm open to workarounds.) That being said, I don't want to give up on the idea so I'm interested in suggestions for other language/API to use. My requirements for the app are: Run on OSX Two windows - one that can go fullscreen while the other(controller GUI) stays put Able to access live mic input data I've done reading on FFT and understand what needs to be done on the sound side so no need to help with that.

  • Core Data Inferred Migration – Automatic "lightweight" vs Manual

    - by ohhorob
I've updated the model of an existing iPhone app in some simple ways (remove attribute, add attribute, remove index), and can use automatic lightweight migration to migrate the persistent store. Due to the typical size of the data set, the processing time is not insignificant, and warrants feedback for the user. NSMigrationManager provides a simple but useful migrationProgress value that sends KVO notifications as the migration is performed. That forms the basis of providing feedback, however attempting to use an inferred model ([NSMappingModel inferredMappingModelForSourceModel:destinationModel:error:]) results in drastically different timing for the exact same dataset. Profile results on and original iPhone (2G) Automatic inferred lightweight migration PROFILE: CacheManager -migrateStore PROFILE: 0.6130 (+0.6130) models loaded PROFILE: 1.1759 (+0.5629) delegate -CacheManagerWillMigrate: PROFILE: 1.2516 (+0.0757) persistent store coordinator loaded PROFILE: 5.1436 (+3.8920) automatic lightweight migration completed PROFILE: 5.5435 (+0.3999) delegate -CacheManagerDidFinishMigration:withError: Manual inferred migration PROFILE: CacheManager -migrateStore PROFILE: 0.6660 (+0.6660) models loaded PROFILE: 1.1471 (+0.4811) inferred mapping model generated PROFILE: 1.4046 (+0.2574) delegate -CacheManagerWillMigrate: PROFILE: 1.5058 (+0.1013) persistent store coordinator loaded PROFILE: 22.6952 (+21.1894) manual migration completed PROFILE: 23.1478 (+0.4525) delegate -CacheManagerDidFinishMigration:withError: So, with an inferred model, the manual migration takes over 5 times longer than automatic! It's a big inconsistency, and the lightweight option that NSPersistentStoreCoordinator -addPersistentStoreWithType:configuration:URL:options:error: provides absolutely no indication of progress while processing. Can anybody provide a supported way to get the migrationProgress values during automatic migration, OR a way to configure an inferred mapping model to be as fast during manual processing as automatic?

  • How to select one NSCell in an NSTableView?

    - by Paperflyer
I have a small NSTableView with a checkbox. Whenever the checkbox is not checked, I want one of the adjacent NSCells to be grayed out and inaccessible. However, I can't figure out how to address only one specific cell. -dataCellForRow of NSTableColumn always changes the template cell for the whole table column. How can I access one single cell?

  • In Cocoa, why won't a textfield be shown until after the IBAction is completely executed?

    - by Nano8Blazex
I have an IBAction with some simple code inside: -(IBAction)change:(id)sender { [textfield setHidden:NO]; [self dolengthyaction]; } 'textfield' is an NSTextField in a nib file, and -'dolengthyaction' is a function that takes about a minute to finish executing. My question is: Why isn't the textfield shown until AFTER "dolengthyaction" is done executing? I want it to be revealed before the dolengthyaction starts taking place. Is this an inherent problem or is there something wrong with my code? (or in another part of my code?) I'm still not very good at programming so I apologize if I worded something badly and formatted something wrong.

  • UITableView Header Selection

    - by Reonarudo
Hello, Can anyone explain me how can I detect a selection in a table view Header view like in tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: ? It would be very useful for me. I've defined the header as UITableCellView so I could attach a UISwitch as an accessory view, and it worked great but now I can't detect the changes made in the switch. Any suggestions?

  • Add shading to clipped UIView

    - by huggie
I'm creating an iphone application. I have this UIView whose content is clipped with a path. I want to add shading and/or shadow to it. What's the best way to do this? For shadow, I tried CGContextSetShadow() but it doesn't seem to have an effect (perhaps it's drawing outside the shown region?) . How about shading? I want it to appear along the path. What's the best way to go about it? Is it to create another narrow clip strip along the original clipping path (if it's possible to have two clip path... ) Or does this need to be done in another CALayer? I am not even sure what that is yet.

  • Testing Async downloads with ASIHTTPRequest

    - by Baishampayan Ghose
I am writing a simple library using ASIHTTPRequest where I am fetching URLs in an async manner. My problem is that the main function that I have written to test my lib exits before the async calls are finished. I am very new to Obj C and iPhone development, can anyone suggest a good way to wait before all the requests are finished in the main function? Currently, my main function looks like this - int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; IBGApp *ibgapp = [[IBGApp alloc] init]; IBGLib *ibgl = [[IBGLib alloc] initWithUsername:@"joe" andPassword:@"xxx"]; // The two method calls below download URLs async. [ibgl downloadURL:@"http://yahoo.com/" withRequestDelegate:ibgapp andRequestSelector:@selector(logData:)]; [ibgl downloadURL:@"http://google.com/" withRequestDelegate:ibgapp andRequestSelector:@selector(logData:)]; [pool release]; return 0; // I reach here before the async calls are done. } So what is the best way to wait till the async calls are done? I tried putting sleep, but obviously doesn't work.

  • Accessing objects on one nib file from another nib file

    - by ASN
I have two nib files Main.nib and Preferernces.nib I have a class CalendarView.m that inherits from NSView .It has a method for drawing calendar - (void)drawCalendar; In Main.nib window I have NSWindow(My Main window) which has an NSView item on it for displaying calendar.Main window has an NSPopUp button that shows a menu when application runs. Menu has a 'Preferences' menu item which on clicking show a preferences panel(NSPanel) that panel is in Preferences.nib file.Panel has a colorwell item .When application is executed clcking on colorwell show a color panel to choose color .But I am unable to apply that color to my calendar. I have another class PreferencesWindowController.m that shows preferences panel . It has a method changeColor that takes selected color from colors panel and make changes to user defaults . I have IBOutlet CalendarView *calView as a member in PreferencesWindowController.h class. In changeColor mehod I am writing - calView = [[CalendarView alloc] init]; [calView drawCalendar]; On debugging call goes to drawCalendar method of CalendarView but skips some part of it and goes to end of function without redrawing. On restarting the application color is applied but I want it to happen while application is executing, so that there is no need to rerun the application to view changes.

  • Pre-crash iphone symptoms - odd user position, volume change

    - by BankStrong
I'm seeing intermittent strange symtoms in my app: Blue blob (user position in MKMapView) starts "exploding" (odd, jerky animation). Can begin at startup and seems to indicate eventual problems. Speaker volume suddenly increases (back to level before I invoked kAudioSessionSetProperty_OtherMixableAudioShouldDuck). The app keeps running, but this change tells me to expect no more sounds from AVAudioPlayer. Also a reliable indicator of a future crash (on save, etc). I'm having trouble provoking this in the debugger (seems to only happen with movement in GPS). Any ideas to track it down?

  • Does different iVar name change retain count when used with property

    - by russell
Here is 2 code snapshot- Class A:NSObject { NSMutableArray *a; } @property (retain) NSMutableArray *a; @implementation @synthesize a; -(id)init { if(self=[super init]) { a=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } } @end Class A:NSObject { NSMutableArray *_a; } @property (retain) NSMutableArray *a; @implementation @synthesize a=_a; -(id)init { if(self=[super init]) { _a=[[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } } @end Now what i need to know, is in both code instance variable assigned value directly rather than using accessor and retain count is 1? Or there is difference between them. Thanks. And one more things, apple recommended not to use accessor in init/dealloc, but at the same time ask not to directly set iVar. So what is the best way to assign value of ivar in init()??

  • Can I detect if higher subview has been touched?

    - by Kevin Beimers
I've got a big UIView that responds to touches, and it's covered with lots of little UIViews that respond differently to touches. Is it possible to touch anywhere on screen and slide around, and have each view know if it's being touched? For example, I put my finger down on the upper left and slide toward the lower right. The touchesBegan/Moved is collected by the baseView. As I pass over itemView1, itemView2, and itemView3, control passes to them. If I lift my finger while over itemView2, it performs itemView2's touchesEnded method. If I lift my finger over none of the items, it performs baseView's touchesEnded. At the moment, if I touch down on baseView, touchEnded is always baseView and the higher itemViews are ignored. Any ideas?

  • My framework will utilise other frameworks, but I'd like this to be transparent to the end-user

    - by d11wtq
I'm building a framework, which aims to provide a new development environment for the user, but I need to use things like RegexKit and almost certainly some other established frameworks in order to do this. Any functionality exposed from such frameworks would be abstracted through classes and methods in my own framework for maintenance reasons (allowing me to change my mind on which dependencies I want). In an ideal world I just want to ship a single .framework. However I'm aware that unlike with standard bundles and applications it is not possibile to embed a framework inside the framework bundle. Do I have any other option other than to tell the end user that they must also install RegexKit and any other dependencies? I have a feeling this lessens the appeal value of the easy to use embedded framework I'd envisaged building. Right now I'm feeling like I have some limited options: Force the user to install the dependencies. Write my own classes that provide the same functionality -- ugh! If at all possible, try to statically link the third party frameworks (is this possible??) My end-product is ideally a single .framework bundle that uses @rpath and so can be installed in the system or simply bundled with the app that uses it.

  • Obj-c categories in static library

    - by Vladimir
Can you guide me how to properly link static library to iphone project. I use staic library project added to app project as direct dependency (target - general - direct dependecies) and all works OK, but categories. A category defined in static library is not working in app. So my question is how to add static library with some categories into other project? And in general, what is best practice to use in app project code from other projects?

  • Iphone internet connection (Reachability)

    - by ludo
Hi, I saw any post about Reachability but people doesn't really give the exact answer to the problem. In my application I use the Reachability code from apple and in my appDelegate I use this: -(BOOL)checkInternet { Reachability *reachability = [Reachability reachabilityWithHostName:@"www.google.com"]; NetworkStatus internetStatus = [reachability currentReachabilityStatus]; BOOL internet; if ((internetStatus != ReachableViaWiFi) && (internetStatus != ReachableViaWWAN)) { internet = NO; }else { internet = YES; } return internet; } So the problem is even if I have an internet connection, this code telling me that I don't have one. Does anyone know what to do to make this working? Thanks,

  • Why release the NSURLConnection instance in this statement?

    - by aquaibm
I read this in a book. -(IBAction) updateTweets { tweetsView.text = @""; [tweetsData release]; tweetsData = [[NSMutableData alloc] init]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://twitter.com/statuses/public_timeline.xml" ]; NSURLRequest *request = [[NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL: url]; NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self]; [connection release]; [request release]; [activityIndicator startAnimating]; } In this statement,is that correct to release the "connection" instance at that time? After releasing it which means this NSURLConnection instance will be destroyed since it's reference count is 0 ,how are we going to make this connection operation work? THANKS.

  • What challenges are there in making an iPhone IDE for Windows/Linux?

    - by Moshe
First of all, is this possible? If so: What challenges would I encounter in making an XCode imitation for iPhone/iPod development for Windows or Linux? I was thinking about using gcc as the actual compiler for the objecitve-c. Will that work? It doesn't need to compile to iPhone OS until it is to be tested on the device or submitted to the app store. Perhaps it will be easier to compile to the local OS format (Windows or Linux) until "prime-time".
