  • How to force ADO.Net to use only the System.String DataType in the readers TableSchema.

    Howdy, I am using an OleDbConnection to query an Excel 2007 Spreadsheet. I want force the OleDbDataReader to use only string as the column datatype. The system is looking at the first 8 rows of data and inferring the data type to be Double. The problem is that on row 9 I have a string in that column and the OleDbDataReader is returning a Null value since it could not be cast to a Double. I have used these connection strings: Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR=No" Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 8.0;HDR=No;IMEX=1" Looking at the reader.GetSchemaTable().Rows[7].ItemArray[5], it's dataType is Double. Row 7 in this schema correlates with the specific column in Excel I am having issues with. ItemArray[5] is its DataType column Is it possible to create a custom TableSchema for the reader so when accessing the ExcelFiles, I can treat all cells as text instead of letting the system attempt to infer the datatype? I found some good info at this page: Tips for reading Excel spreadsheets using ADO.NET The main quirk about the ADO.NET interface is how datatypes are handled. (You'll notice I've been carefully avoiding the question of which datatypes are returned when reading the spreadsheet.) Are you ready for this? ADO.NET scans the first 8 rows of data, and based on that guesses the datatype for each column. Then it attempts to coerce all data from that column to that datatype, returning NULL whenever the coercion fails!     Hi everybody, I'm working on a simple application that draws an alpha-blended picture on the screen's Device Context every 2 secs, I want to refresh the screen contents before the drawing operation (To erase the drawn pic), I have used many many trick but unfortunately, the screen won't refresh correctly, some regions still keep portions of the drawn pic I'm really frustrated from this issue :( These are the sources codes I have used, I'm using C# SendMessage(HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOLORCHANGE, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero); // wasted time in the refreshing process is enough to keep this.   • Screen recorder for tracking back your steps while debugging?

    I am wondering whether there is a screen recorder that is usable for checking what exactly you did a couple of minutes ago while debugging, or just checking what value for a variable was displayed the last time you hit that breakpoint etc. (Of course this latter question would be something terrific for an IDE to implement, but I've never seen something like that so far. :-) For this you would need a screen recorder that could record all day and preferably automatically delete the recording the recording that is, say, older than an hour. Probably the recording format should be something that is good for screen recording instead of natural scenes. Do you know a screen recorder like that or at least one that comes close?

  • Restoring a saved opengl ES buffer (i.e. writing it back to screen)

    I'm writing an iPhone app where I need to save and load the screen contents. I was able to save the screen using glReadPixels(), but since there's no glDrawPixels() in openGL ES, I'm having a lot of trouble restoring that buffer to the screen. I gather that I need to save the screen as a texture: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/708760/what-is-the-equivalent-of-gldrawpixels-in-opengl-es-1-1 But I'm not sure how to implement this. Does anyone have or know of any code samples that do this? I'm an openGL noob, so any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    Is it possible to not clear entire screen when using glClear() function? I need to clear only a part of the screen to save some rendering time, otherwise i would have to redraw half of the screen every frame, even if nothing is happening on the other half. Of course this should be done as quickly (or quickier) as the glClear() is now.

If a user logs and then lock his session, the screensaver will start eventually but if no user are logged the login screen will never start the screensaver.   • Mac OS X bug: Desktop & Screen Saver: image alignment preference is ignored.

    I have my desktop background set to rotate through a folder of images. Even though I have the alignment drop-down list set to "Center", the images still render as "Fill to Screen". When I change the list value to something else, then back to "Center", OR I manually click on a different image to display, well, that image is rendered as "Center". But all images that follow (via the "Change picture every x minutes" checkbox) are rendered as Fill to Screen. Any fix to this bug?

    I need to create a bidirectional trust between two Active Directory domains. But management is worried that users will be puzzled out when seeing another domain name in the drop-down list in the Windows logon screen (many of them use Windows XP), and that help desk calls for failed logins due to having selected the wrong domain will skyrocket. Also, the two domain names are quite similar, adding to the possible user confusion. Is there any way to hide a trusted domain from the drop-down list in the Windows logon screen?

    When I first got my iPhone 4, if I selected a song from the "search iPhone" screen (when you hit home twice), iTunes would start playing a playlist of all my songs, starting with the selected one. I recently updated it to 4.2.1 (I don't remember exactly what I was at before). Now, when I select a song from the "Search iPhone" screen, iTunes starts playing a playlist containing only that song. Is there a way I can get the old behavior back?

    I recently reinstalled windows xp on my dell latitude d410 laptop, everything works fine as long as I don't shut down, when I do, I get a black screen with a list of choices, it gives me the option of trying to start windows normally or different safe modes, than a blue screen comes up and runs a check disk, it even ask me to pick a restore point the last time, which I did, I'm afraid to turn the computer off or restart it, what could be wrong?

    The old advice to set the REG_DWORD value named RPEnabled (some sources claim it's RPEnable) under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer to 0 doesn't work anymore since the Consumer Preview (i.e. now also for the Release Preview). Yes, I tried both RPEnabled and RPEnable. How can I log into the system and be presented the desktop instead of the metro start screen? I got rid of the lock screen already, so this is the missing piece in the puzzle of making Windows 8 Release Preview usable.

  • Why is the screen resolution different between Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions?

    I installed Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit edition on my Dell Precision M6400 with an nVidia Quadro Fx 2700M card and I see that even though the screen resolution is set to 1920 X 1200, its not the same as the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed on a second hard drive. Both OSes show that the screen resolution is set at 1920 X 1200 but Ultimate shows more pixels than Enterprise. I also reinstalled the display driver but in vain. Any ideas? TIA

    I'd like to watch a video with sound on one computer, share the screen, and have the sound heard by the other computer, not going through the speakers. i.e. it should transmit the video from my screen and the same sound that's going to the speakers, right off the sound card. It is possible to do on XP, but not on 7. I have tried to use the stereo mix as the sound source, but it seems that skype blocks that.
