  • Is there any mercurial hosting actually *on* Amazon EC2?

    I need to be able to update my ec2 instance from a label in mercurial when it resets so my application is always set at the right revision. It'd be great to be able to push my changes to a mercurial host and have my instances automatically update across the ec2 network when they are reset! I really don't want to host mercurial on the same instance (or even a dedicated instance)

    Hi, In the "syslog" for a MapReduce job flow step, I see the following: Job Counters Launched reduce tasks=4 Launched map tasks=39 Does the number of launched map tasks include failed tasks? I am using NLineInputFormat class as input format to manage the number of map tasks. However, I get slightly different numbers for exact same input occasionally, or depending on the number of instances (10, 15, and 20). Can anyone tell me why I am seeing different number of tasks launched?

  • C#. Where struct methods code kept in memory?

    It is somewhat known where .NET keeps value types in memory (mostly in stack but could be in heap in certain circumstances etc)... My question is - where is the code of the struct? If I have say 16 byte of data fields in the struct and a massive computation method in it - I am presuming that 16 byte will be copied in stack and the method code is stored somewhere else and is shared for all instances of the struct. Are these presumptions correct?

    Hey all, The title is obvious, I need to know if methods are serialized along with object instances in C#, I know that they don't in Java but I'm a little new to C#. If they don't, do I have to put the original class with the byte stream(serialized object) in one package when sending it to another PC? Can the original class be like a DLL file?

    I was reading that JavaDoc for Threadlocal here http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/ThreadLocal.html and it says "ThreadLocal instances are typically private static fields in classes that wish to associate state with a thread (e.g., a user ID or Transaction ID). " But my question is why did they choose to make it static (typically) - it makes it a bit confusing to have "per thread" state but its static?

In most instances their database would be SQL Express setup on their localhost. How can I connect to a clients local SQL server via my website, using asp.net / javascript etc?     I've made 2 apps, App A and App B. App A's sole purpose is to allow users to sign up and App B's purpose is to take select users from App A email them. Since App A & B were created independently & are hosted in 2 separate Heroku instances, how can App B access the users database in App A? Is there a way to push certain relevant rows from App A to App B?

But eventhough AsyncTask.cancel() is not called within my class, onCancelled() has been called which resulted to some abnormal process in my application.     I'm trying to extend a Java Swing component in Clojure, i.e. I want to extend a javax.swing.JComponent and add some custom methods implemented in pure Clojure in addition to all the standard inherited methods. I've tried using "proxy" which works great if I just want a single instance (in the same way as an anonymous inner class). However I'd really like a named class so that I can generate an arbitrary number of instances. What's the recommended way of doing this?

    Inspired by this discussion, after some googling I wasn't able to find an answer to a pretty simple question regarding methods in Ruby: are they objects or not? There are different opinions here and there, and I would really like to hear, let's say, an in-depth explanation. I'm aware of Object#method method, which takes a method name and returns a Method instance, but, on the other hand, there's a similar thing you can do with blocks to make them into Proc instances, and blocks aren't objects, so what makes methods any different?

  • How do I debug a Unity Container "Resolve"?

    I'm using the MS Unity container to do dependency injection, but a "Resolve" is returning unexpected results. Is there an way I can debug this resolution? It would be great if I could view what Types/Instances are registered in the container, but I can't see where this is stored when using QuickWatch. It would also be useful if I could get the container to output some debug Traces. Any suggestions?
