• Class Design and Structure Online Web Store

  I hope I have asked this in the right forum. Basically, we're designing an Online Store and I am designing the class structure for ordering a product and want some clarification on what I have so far: So a customer comes, selects their product, chooses the quantity and selects 'Purchase' (I am using the Facade Pattern - So subsystems execute when this action is performed). My class structure: < Order > < Product > <Customer > There is no inheritance, more Association < Order has < Product , < Customer has < Order . Does this structure look ok? I've noticed that I don't handle the "Quantity" separately, I was just going to add this into the "Product" class, but, do you think it should be a class of it's own? Hope someone can help.

• ubuntu cobbler server - importing distros

  I setup and fully configured ubuntu-12.04-server machine with cobbler/dhcp running in about 10 minutes (compared to taking over an hour on centos 5.8). I discovered the cobbler import which appears to be useful. Does this remove the need to use a cobbler distro add? whenever I run a cobbler report after a successful import of ubuntu desktop iso: sudo cobbler import --name=Ubuntu --path=/mnt --breed=debian task started: 2012-12-13_163245_import task started (id=Media import, time=Thu Dec 13 16:32:45 2012) Found a debian/ubuntu compatible signature: pool adding distros avoiding symlink loop avoiding symlink loop avoiding symlink loop associating repos associating kickstarts *** TASK COMPLETE *** I just get the following (nothing): distros: ========== profiles: ========== systems: ========== repos: ========== images: ========== mgmtclasses: ========== packages: ========== files: ========== I was rather hoping that I wouldn't have to do the traditional copying of all files in /mnt to a new /distro directory and then perform a cobbler distro add --initrd=/path/to/inird --kernel=/path/to/kernel Maybe I am mistaken about what the import actually does for me. I have reached this far. http://i.stack.imgur.com/h1wSw.png I tried referring to their help documentation. but that did not help. Does someone know how to link a new branch to an issue in JIRA ? I tried to giving same name to Issue and Branch. That din't work. If the Issue key is : "DEMO-7", what should be the "Branch Prefix" & "Branch Name" in Plastic SCM ? I am sure I am missing something.

• HLSL Pixel Shader that does palette swap

  I have implemented a simple pixel shader which can replace a particular colour in a sprite with another colour. It looks something like this: sampler input : register(s0); float4 PixelShaderFunction(float2 coords: TEXCOORD0) : COLOR0 { float4 colour = tex2D(input, coords); if(colour.r == sourceColours[0].r && colour.g == sourceColours[0].g && colour.b == sourceColours[0].b) return targetColours[0]; return colour; } What I would like to do is have the function take in 2 textures, a default table, and a lookup table (both same dimensions). Grab the current pixel, and find the location XY (coords) of the matching RGB in the default table, and then substitute it with the colour found in the lookup table at XY. I have figured how to pass the Textures from C# into the function, but I am not sure how to find the coords in the default table by matching the colour. Could someone kindly assist?   For someone about to go into a career in medical research, what language would be the most useful to learn? From my limited experience (I have been a researcher in mathematics and in finance) I have been able to recommend looking at R (for statistics) Matlab (for general numeric processing) and Python (for general purpose programming with statistics/numerics as an add-on) but I don't know which of those (if any) are in common use -- or if there are other, more specialized languages that are used. To be clear, I'm not talking about a professional programmer working in a medical setting. I am talking about a medical or genetics researcher who uses programming to analyse data, or generally to help get their work done.

  I realize this is a bit of a broad question, but I was wondering if there is a "standard" in the industry when it comes to storing save data for games (and is it different across platforms - Xbox/PS/PC/Mac/Android/iOS?) For example for a game like Assassin's Creed or The Walking Dead: They are on multiple platforms and they usually have to save enough information about the player and their actions. Do they use something like XML files, databases, or just straight binary dumps? How much does it differ from platform to platform?   As all SEOs know that google is trying its very best to kill SEO and linkbacks are quite a difficult task now. Although content is the key but my boss is still possessed with linkbacks. • Jdk 6.0 update 6 installed sucessfully but java command not working

  I switched to linux (Ubuntu 12.04) this morning and find it great but messed up while installing java. :-(. • Why does multiplying texture coordinates scale the texture?

  I'm having trouble visualizing this geometrically - why is it that multiplying the U,V coordinates of a texture coordinate has the effect of scaling that texture by that factor? eg if you scaled the texture coordinates by a factor of 3 ..then doesn't this mean that if you had texture coordinates 0,1 and 0,2 ...you'd be sampling 0,3 and 0,6 in the U,V texture space of 0..1? How does that make it bigger eg HLSL: tex2D(textureSampler, TexCoords*3) Integers make it smaller, decimals make it bigger I mean I understand intuitively if you added to the U,V coordinates, as that is simply an offset into the sampling range, but what's the case with multiplication? I have a feeling when someone explains this to me I'm going to be feeling mighty stupid

  I have a class diagram that is like this: < Order > (1) CAN HAVE (M) < products > But therefore "Order" has the following: Order_Id Customer_Id Order_date_day Order_date_month Order_date_yeah But I do not know how it would handle the Products? Because, I couldn't have "ProductID" because that would mean that each item in this class would have to have a separate instance for each product (E.g. someone ordered 100 products, but only placed 1 order). Could I have an Product object in class Order? If so, how do you represent that in UML? Thank you

• How do I export customized Libreoffice config files?

  Is this possible? I want to make my own config file for my customizations that I can apply whenever I reinstall my system. For example, Ubuntu's default font color is just stupid. I want it to be BLACK and not dark grey. And I want to turn on autosave every 3rd minute and backup files. Is there a config file that I can change? The .libreoffice/* folders and XML files doesn't make sense, and they don't seem to change when I change stuff in LibreOffice. Could someone please help me out with this? Thanks.

• EVOLUTION: No such Calendar

  I am using a google calendar with evolution for quite a while now. I was never having any troubles. Just recently, I suppose just after an update, whenever I want to create a new event in evolution (for the just mentioned google calendar) I get the err message "No such calendar". When I dismiss changes an re-open evolution the entry has been added anyway. This is somewhat annoying. I googled, but haven't found anything yet which suggests that it not problem many people have!?   I got into an interesting internet argument about getter and setter methods and encapsulation. Someone said that all they should do is an assignment (setters) or a variable access (getters) to keep them "pure" and ensure encapsulation. Am I right that this would completely defeat the purpose of having getters and setters in the first place and validation and other logic (without strange side-effects of course) should be allowed? When should validation happen? When setting the value, inside the setter (to protect the object from ever entering an invalid state - my opinion) Before setting the value, outside the setter Inside the object, before each time the value is used Is a setter allowed to change the value (maybe convert a valid value to some canonical internal representation)?

• CSS naming guildlines with elements with multiple classes

  Its seems like there are 2 ways someone can handle naming classes for elements that are designed to have multiple classes. One way would be: <span class="btn btn-success"></span> This is something that twitter bootstrap uses. Another possibility I would think would be: <span class="btn success"></span> It seems like the zurb foundation uses this method. Now the benefits of the first that I can see is that there less chance of outside css interfering with styling as the class name btn-success would not be as common as the class name success. The benefit of the second as I can see is that there is less typing and potential better style reuse. Are there any other benefits/disadvantages of either option and is one of them more popular than the other?

I am building a lightweight web application and have decided to have sql ce as the database for it. • Unable to overscan at lower resolution with AMD ATI

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest ATI drivers installed. I have the catalyst option but I am unable to set overscan. My default resolution is 1920*1080 on 15inch display. I want to set it to a lower resolution. But on setting it to any lower resolution the display shrinks i.e I see black chopped off display on the left and on the right :( Really frustrating this, wasted hours on this already. I realized that this is referred to as overscan, but the ATI Catalyst Administrative just does not allow me to set the option. Can someone please through some light on this topic?

• Adding an LOV to a query parameter (executeWithParams)

I also showed how you can make the parameter fields display as drop down lists of values (selectOneChoice). However this week someone asked me if you can have those parameter fields use the advanced LOV component. Well if you just try and drag the parameter over, you'll see that the LOV option is not there as a drop option. But with a little bit of hacking around you can achieve this.   Starting Feb 11, my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop respawns FileManager many times(hundreds). You can observe the "Starting File Manager" processes at the bottom of the gnome desktop. I can make this behaviour stop by: System - Preferences - Ubuntu One - Services - uncheck "Files". Can someone walk me though the debug process? I'm developing a brand new engine which occasionaly triggers this bug and as far as I know, there's nothing one can do to find out what actually triggered the issue. I understand the basis of many exploits (XSS, SQL injection, use after free etc.), though I've never performed any myself. I even have some idea about how to guard web applications from common exploits (like the aforementioned XSS and SQL injection) Reading this question about the Internet Explorer zero-day vulnerability from the Security SE piqued my curiosity and made me wonder: how did someone even find out about this exploit? What tools did they use? How did they know what to look for? I'm wary about visiting hacker dens online for fear of getting my own system infected (the Defcon stories make me paranoid). So what's a good, safe place to start learning?

• Create a package for official Realtek ALC665 drivers (Dell XPS 15 L502X)

  is it possible for someone to create an ALSA driver package from the official Realtek "LinuxPkg_5.17Beta.tar.bz2" drivers (found via Google)? These drivers provide excellent support for the ALC665 chipset, found eg. in the Dell XPS 15 notebook series (L502x). All the features like output selection (HDMI, headphones) that were not working before are supported. I am asking for a package because the driver is unusable as-is: it comes with an outdated version of ALSA that does not compile on a 3.5 kernel. Apart from that, it also removes all the default snd-* drivers that come with the kernel package. Any help in bringing better support for this device to the official Ubuntu packages is much appreciated. N.

The reason I'm reluctant to tell him right away is I'm afraid he'll begin the process of replacing me.
