  Here is my current log4j settings file. Are these settings ideal for production use or is there something I should remove/tweak or change? I ask because I was getting all my threads being hung due to log4j blocking.   How do I log from within my web application deployed on Tomcat 6? Where should I expect the logging output to go (internal tomcat log files, or will another logfile be generated)? I see a ton of documentation but am having a hard time finding a direct answer to the above questions. Where should I expect the logging to show up (currently it is log4j is not generating a log file and it is not showing up in my console). This seems simple enough, and by following tutorials I've come up with the following code, but it seems the onclick is never setup. • slot function not getting called

  I am learning QT and trying out some examples. I am trying to make a dialog that disappears a label when a button is pressed and makes it appear when the same button is pressed again. Whenever i press the test button nothing happens. But if i change the signal slot connections as QObject::connect(testButton, SIGNAL(clicked(bool)), testLabel, SLOT(setVisible(bool))); it makes the label disappear. So, why it is not working with signal "toggled". What i am guessing is, it is not able to find that signal. Can you guys throw some light?

• WPF DockPanel doesn't respect the "Filled" control's desired size

Nullam massa augue, suscipit vel consectetur fringilla, pretium vitae neque. </TextBlock> <Button MinWidth="100" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Left">Hello world</Button> </DockPanel> My problem is that I want the Button to take its minimum 100px of space, and for the text to wrap suitably to leave that space. However, what happens is that the text wraps as close to 400px as possible, and then the Button is clipped. If I Snoop the output I can see that the button is rendering at the desired 100px, but it's being clipped off the side of the DockPanel. If I reverse the Dock (so the button is docked "Right" and the TextBlock fills) then I get the layout I want, but unfortunately that's not an option due to the surrounding layout. Is there something I can do that will make the DockPanel a) not clip and b) layout in a way that respects the MinWidth? Or am I stuck finding an alternative layout mechanism? Thanks in advance!

• Help me understand dynamic layouts in Sinatra

  Help me understand this; I'm learning Sinatra (and Rails for that matter, er, and Ruby). Say I'm doing a search app. The search form is laid out in one div, and the results will be laid out in another. The search form is rendered into the div by a previous view (maybe from a login form). I want to process the form params, perform the search, and render the results into the results div. If I have a single "yield" in the layout and render the divs from different views, the results div erases the search div when it renders. If I define the divs in the default layout, then just render the content, obviously the layout will be messed up: there would have to be two "yields" and I don't think Sinatra supports passing blocks in to yields. I tried foca's sinatra-content-for plugin, and that seems closer to what I need. But I can't figure out where to place the "yield_content" statements. If I have this haml in my layout: #search -# search form = yield_content :search #results -# search results = yield_content :results ... this in my search view: - content_for :search do %form{:method => "post"... etc. ... and this in the results view: - content_for :results do %table{:class => 'results'... etc. This sort of works but when I render the results view, the search div is emptied out. I would like to have it remain. Am I doing something wrong? How should I set this up?

• Logback: What would cause DEBUG - WARN to append to file but NOT ERROR?

  I am running a Java program from Eclipe, and I am using the logback console plugin. I can see the ERROR level statements being appended to console (as well as all of the others). But for some reason my file, which is correctly recieving new DEBUG-WARN statements, is NOT recieving the ERROR level ones.   Hey, i try to build a structure like this +---src +---main +---webapp +---WEB-INF +---cfg ¦ +---log4j ¦ +---resources ¦ +---extensions ¦ +---${artifactIdKey}-business ¦ +---${artifactIdKey}-layout +---lib I added a required property to my archetype-metadata.xml to have an short-name for the project, which is used among other things for generating unique folders. <requiredProperties> <requiredProperty key="artifactIdKey" /> </requiredProperties> The property artifactIdKey i use in a fileSet: <fileSet> <directory>[..]/resources/extensions/${artifactIdKey}-business</directory> </fileSet> <fileSet> <directory>[..]/resources/extensions/${artifactIdKey}-layout</directory> </fileSet> The command to generate the archetype: mvn archetype:generate -B \ -DgroupId=com.stackoverflow \ -DartifactId=stackoverflow-question -DarchetypeGroupId=com.stackoverflow \ -DarchetypeArtifactId=stackoverflow-archetype -DarchetypeVersion=1.0 \ -DartifactIdKey=soq I assume to get the following folder structure, but i get the ${artifactIdKey} property as folder. • Python: Convert format string to regular expression

  The users of my app can configure the layout of certain files via a format string. For example, the config value the user specifies might be: layout = '%(group)s/foo-%(locale)s/file.txt' I now need to find all such files that already exist. This seems easy enough using the glob module: glob_pattern = layout % {'group': '*', 'locale': '*'} glob.glob(glob_pattern) However, now comes the hard part: Given the list of glob results, I need to get all those filename-parts that matched a given placeholder, for example all the different "locale" values. I thought I would generate a regular expression for the format string that I could then match against the list of glob results (or then possibly skipping glob and doing all the matching myself). But I can't find a nice way to create the regex with both the proper group captures, and escaping the rest of the input. For example, this might give me a regex that matches the locales: regex = layout % {'group': '.*', 'locale': (.*)} But to be sure the regex is valid, I need to pass it through re.escape(), which then also escapes the regex syntax I have just inserted. Calling re.escape() first ruins the format string. I know there's fnmatch.translate(), which would even give me a regex - but not one that returns the proper groups. Is there a good way to do this, without a hack like replacing the placeholders with a regex-safe unique value etc.? Is there possibly some way (a third party library perhaps?) that allows dissecting a format string in a more flexible way, for example splitting the string at the placeholder locations?

What seems to be happening is that the level for SGSearch overrides the level set for the root logger somehow. I can't figure it out. I have confirmed that Log4J is reading then properties file I think it is, and no other (via the -Dlog4j.debug option)

  I'm using Haml (Haml/Sass 3.0.9 - Classy Cassidy) stand-alone to generate static HTML. I want to create a shared layout template that all my other templates inherit. Layout.haml %html %head %title Test Template %body .Content Content.haml SOMEHOW INHERIT Layout.haml SOMEHOW Change the title of the page "My Content". %p This is my content To produce: Content.html <html> <head> <title>My Content</title> </head> <body> <div class="Content"> <p>This is my content</p> </div> </body> </html> But this doesn't seem possible. I have seen the use of rendering partials when using Haml with Rails but can't find any solution when using Haml stand-alone. Having to put the layout code in all of my templates would be a maintenance nightmare; so my question is how do I avoid doing this? Is there a standard way to solve this problem? Have I missed something fundamental?

  Hi, I'm trying to create a custom Android control that contains a LinearLayout. You can think of it as an extended LinearLayout with fancy borders, a background, an image on the left... I could do it all in XML (works great) but since I have dozens of occurences in my app it's getting hard to maintain. I thought it would be nicer to have something like this: /* Main.xml */ <MyFancyLayout> <TextView /> /* what goes inside my control's linear layout */ </MyfancyLayout> How would you approach this? I'd like to avoid re-writing the whole linear layout onMeasure / onLayout methods. • Custom titlebar - system titlebar being shown for a brief moment?

  Hi, I've got a custom layout I want to use as the titlebar of my android app. The technique found (linked at the bottom) works, but the system titlebar is displayed before onCreate() is called.   I'm building a widget which displays some text. By widget I mean the kind which lies on the desktop. The problem is that I want to change text's font at runtime. • Open Source Licenses, which one?

  recently I created a java class " Custom Layout Manager ", which I want to make it open-source and distribute it. So it's not really a "product", nor a "complete program". Here's the list of permissions and specifications: You are free to use and modify with some limitations (packages and classes names, should remain the same, if you want another name, extend this class. - The .jar file, project name is ok to change). You don't need to share your modifications. You can't modify and then sell it to others. You can use it as part of your commercial software (For example: It's OK if: you created an instant messaging program, that uses my "Layout", since your "core bussiness" isn't the "Layout", but the msg program. It's NOT OK if: you created another "Layout" by extending it, added some features and sell it.) You can't remove the author's name nor the author's website address. You are free to donate. :D Basically, it's free and it's Ok as you give me credits and don't make money with it. I guess it might be a little bit complex, since you use it "commercially" but cannot sell it separately. I have seeked almost all the licenses, and the closest one was MIT license, but it says that you can sell it, so I don't really want to use this one. Is there any license that fits all these permissions I stated? Thanks.

• CSS challenge: Two background images, centered column with fixed with, min-height 100%

  In a nutshell I need a CSS solution for the following requirements: Layout: One centered column with fixed width and a minimum height of 100% Two vertically repeated background images behind the centered column, one aligned to the left, one aligned to the right Cross browser compatibility A little more details Today a new requirement for my current web site project came up: A background image with gradients on the left and right side. The challenge is now to specify two different background images while keeping the rest of the layout spec. Unfortunately the (simple) layout somehow doesn't go with the two backgrounds. My layout is basically one centered column with fixed width: #main_container { margin: 0 auto; min-height: 100%; width: 800px; } Furthermore it's necessary to stretch the column to a minimum height of 100%, since there are quite some pages with only little content. The following CSS styles take care of that: html { height: 100%; } body { margin: 0; height: 100%; padding: 0; } So far so good - until the two background image issue arrived... I tried the following solutions Two absolute positioned divs behind the main container One image defined with the body, one with the html CSS class One image defined with the body, the other one with a large div begind the main container With either one of them, the dynamic height solution was ruined. Either the main container didn't stretch to 100% when it was too small, or the background remained at 100% when the content was actually longer
