• Proxy authentication box not showing (sometimes)

  I'm behind a proxy that require authentication by means of user/pass. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04, I think the proxy is "Squid". Usually everything works fine, that means that the browser shows me the window to insert proxy user/pass and I can navigate. The problem: Sometimes the browser refuse to show the authentication windows and if I wait enough it gives me an error like: Errore 130 (net::ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED) Even if I restart, disconnect, the situation doesn't change. BUT on Windows the network (and the proxy) works.. So, bottomline what I know is: the network is working (though only on Windows) the Ubuntu configuration is ok (because i can navigate most days) The problems resolves itself in a few hours but I don't understand why. • Light on every model and not in the whole scene

  I am using a custom shader and try to pass the effect on my Models like that: foreach (ModelMesh mesh in Model.Meshes) { foreach (ModelMeshPart part in mesh.MeshParts) { part.Effect = effect; } mesh.Draw(); } My only issue is that every Model now has its own light source in it. Why is this happening and is this a problem of my shader? • Print to file in Black and White [not printer specific]

  Hi all, I have these pdf files of c++code and they are colored which would be cool, except that the network printer here is b&w and the printed out codes come in various shades of pale grey which makes them essentially unreadable (specially the comments). I would like everything (text, codes, commands,...) to be printed in the same (black) color. i've tried fuddling with the printer's properties, but the closest thing i see is the 'level of grey' tab, and there i have the choice between 'enhanced' and 'normal' (and it doesn't make a difference in my case). i've tried 'print to file', but i don't see any options there to print to b&w, I've tried installing the 'generic cups printer', but again no options to print to b&w. any idea ? (i'm on 10.10)

• dual boot, Sony Viao, all in one portable desktop, not working and crashes

  I am a fan of Ubuntu but ever since I bought my new computers, both Sony Vaio, I can't get them running together with windows 8.1. When I try wubi, it doesn't show the install box, but some other information box. If I remove wubi from the iso and run it as admin on my desktop, it runs and installs but after rebooting, grub never comes up and it gives the error screen.. On my laptop, I had to make a usb install and partition everything myself and that worked for my laptop, for a little while. Windows boot loader would override and grub wouldn't come up no more, unless I try to boot from usb, with no usb in, and after it reboots because there is no usb, now grub opens, but doesn't cont. That is what happens with my Sony 2 in 1 laptop. My all in one portable just wont boot it period. Bios is the problem but I disabled everything that was necessary. Help

• Google Webmaster Tools robots test not working

  Within Webmaster Tools I have supplied my test content: User-agent: * Disallow:/admin/ Disallow: /tag/ When I specify the URL to test against, for example: http://www.site.com/tag/ It gives me this result: "Allowed: Detected as a directory; specific files may have different restrictions" As far as I know I have set this up correctly, shouldn't Google be saying that the /tag/ directory is "disallowed"?

• apt-get not recognizing downloaded archives

  I installed Ubuntu Gnome 13.10. I previously had Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 and had all the archives in the /var/cache/apt/archives/ stored to a removable disk. After installing 13.10 I copied all my archives to the above mentioned path. When I run apt-get install it tries to fetch the archives although I have the archives. Also if instead of apt-get install if I try to install individual .deb files using dpkg -i everything runs fine. These are the permissions of files: How do I fix this. Previously copying archives like this worked fine and downloading duplicates the files.

• System Settings and Software Center does not pull up after fresh install 11.10 amd64

  I've had a few install rounds with ubuntu ever since 8.04 and has worked flawlessly every time. However, for some reason, when I try to click either System Settings or Software Center, the icon pulses as if it were working to come up but never does. The same goes for System Settings. I would expect that a password dialog would appear, but nothing shows. Is there bug with 11.10 that didn't exist with 11.04?

  there is only the wired connection option available when the menu drops down. i have installed a belkin wireless g card for my desktop. it has been used before on this version of ubuntu 10.10, but after upgrading it shows only wired networks. enable networking and enable notifications have both been ticked. still only wired networks coming. im using ubuntu 10.10 maverick meerkat on my desktop comp and im an absolute begginer at ubuntu. can some one please help me re enable wireless on my comp?

  I've tried multiple times to apply the following piece of code in a CSS document: display: block; width: 500px; margin: 500px auto; padding: 15px; text-align: center; border: 4px solid blue; background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top,black,white); outline: 7px solid red; Everything appears correctly, except the gradient. I have CS6 Live View turned on, and it still refuses to appear. All I get in my box is a white background, as opposed to the black to white gradient. However, when I type the same line of code into the trial of Coda 2 I downloaded, it works perfectly. Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue?

• Website hacked, cpanel password not encrypted?

  Yesterday I found out that all the websites that are hosted on my webhosting site were hacked. I tried to change my password, and unbelievably, I COULD SEE my password there. This means my password is able to be decrypted. I asked customer support, and they say, its normal, CPanel saves the password like that. Is it true? I mean, cpanel password able to be decrypted? They blame me because my wordpress version is out of date. But 2 of my website are on different platforms. One made by CI and one by Wordpress, and all are hacked. Is this hosting reliable?

  Hi I've spent hours trying all the suggestions listed on Forums on this problem all over the internet and I still can't get my wireless working. It's very discouraging because it might force me to go back to Windows which I hate. Can someone help? Perhaps I can give you some information to help identify what the issue is? b43 isn't coming up in my list of drivers...just Broadcom STA which doesn't work. • Why circles are not created if small?

  I have changed the scale to my own and now I cant create any object, including circle, if it is of the size which is normal for my scale. I am to create big object first and then modify it to smaller size. Looks like minimal size protection is set somewhere. Where? UPDATE While creating a circle, if I drag for 0.04m circle disappears after drag end. If I drag for 0.08m circle also disappears. If I drag for more than 0.1m, circle persists after drag end. How to set so that it persist after 0.01m too?

• Ubuntu 12.10 will not boot!! please help

  Okay ive been at this for about 6 hours now, linux has never given me problems before, im installing from an isodvd going from window7 to ubuntu12.10, the installation works fine, everything loads perfect with no problems and it asks me to restart when the installation is comeplete. After the computer shuts down and i remove the livecd as it tried to boot up i get an Error: no boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed. Ive tried updating grub from the livecd because it is the only way i can boot to anything atm, nothing has worked so far. Has anyone else had this problem??

  Just a quick note about an issue where JDeveloper no longer recognized an existing subversion working directory. Symptom:  JDeveloper Versioning menu offers to Version an Application that is already versioned in svn. Cause: The repository url contained in the hidden .svn folders of the working directory is no longer valid. Solution: Determine the correct url for the Subversion repository and update the .svn working directory.Fix the url contained in the svn folders of the working directory using the svn switch command. • Ubuntu does not boot after bad shutdown

  I recently swapped from Windows7 to Ubuntu 11.10 due to problems with my Windows. Ubuntu worked great for a few days with no problem, This morning I ran out of battery and the laptop shut down. I rebooted it and now it just displays an error message ( black screen with coding commands) it doesn't even go onto the purple screen anymore. Any help on this would be much appreciated.. Ps: would installing Ubuntu again make any difference?

• Wireless not functional

  I am a complete newcomer to Ubuntu. Today I installed Ubuntu 12.04 onto an 3 or 4 year old laptop - an HP DV2221. Install went fine, except that I can't get the wireless card to operate. I see that there are drivers installed (Broadcom STA wireless) and it says they are activated, but the wireless light on the body of the computer is lit as orange, when it should be blue, and if I disconnect the Ethernet wire, there is no ability to get onto Firefox. I've looked at some of the similar questions on this site, as well as Googling the issue - mostly, I guess I don't understand how to navigate or do some of the fixes recommended - I'm fairly adept technologically around Windows, but know zilch about Linux and how to perform some of the fixes - so, if possible, please tell me how I get to the menus needed to rectify the situation.

  Hi, I have problem with one my conputer, it does not display any website properly. The background clouds on some websites do not show up, the layout of some websites are not properly displayed. And it only happen to only one computer. OS: Windows XP IE: 7 (not working on either IE7 or IE 8) I have tried to add my website as trusted site still that site is not working properly. I also tried Internet Options Advanced ... Check Show images, smart image dithering, enable visual styles in button and controls on webwage. Is there anything else I could do to fix the problem? Any help is appreciated

• USB (wireless) keyboard not recognised during install

  I'm just trying my first trip into the world of Ubuntu. Trying to install from CD on to a virgin machine, I get the initial language prompt, select 'English', I get the Ubuntu install options, select 'Install Ubuntu Server'. I'm then presented with a further 'Language for installation' screen. At this point my keyboard stops working...! Some specifics: I'm using a Logitech wireless USB keyboard - it works fine on another machine; Machine is a ProLiant Micorserver N54L (No PS/2 ports); BIOS USB support is set to Legacy. Any ideas...? • Can a website become popular in a "category" (ie, not just a single page)

  I have a few keywords where my website is high ranking(2nd and 3rd result). For instance, I have 3 blog posts covering a certain kind of modem. Is it common for search engines to consider a website popular in a "category"? For instance, if I was the first result for "foobar" with one page, and then added another separate page which mentioned "foobar"(and maybe a link from the original page), would a search engine prioritize this separate page when compared to a completely separate website with a page with the same content?

• Google Site Search (commercial) not indexing files in sitemap

  I have a client for whom we have purchased Google Site Search. It works well for HTML pages served by the CMS, but files aren't being reliably indexed. I wrote a script to generate an XML feed (sitemap) of all the files in the CMS which I've plugged in to Google Webmaster Tools for the site. It says that for that sitemap 923 URLs have been submitted, but only 26 have been indexed. The client relies heavily on searching within files, which is why we decided to use Google search, so this is a bit of a problem. Many of the files aren't linked to from any page on the site, as they are old and therefore don't merit having a page of their own. But they still need to be accessible through search for archiving purposes. The file archive xml can be found at www.sniffer.org.uk/file-archive and the standard xml sitemap (of pages) can be found at www.sniffer.org.uk/sitemap.xml. Any thought would be much appreciated!

• Monitor not recognised after apt-get upgrade on 11.10 - maximum 1024x768 resolution

  I did an apt-get upgrade through update manager on 11.10. After restarting my VGA monitor is no longer recognised and I can only get a maximum of 1024x768 on a 1440x900 monitor.   I have successfully setup PXE server on Ubuntu 12.04 with DNSMASQ for DHCP Proxy Service, TFTPD-HPA for TFTP service, NFS-KERNEL-SERVER, APACHE2 and SYSLINUX for pxelinux.0 bootloaded needed for pxe boot using the following POST: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606910 I was successfully able to pxe boot a client to a Ubuntu 12.04 LIVE CD. Next, I want to PXE boot a client to a RHEL 6.5 x64 Kernel and initrd image. I dont want to install, just boot a client so that it mounts initrd and I can get a minimal filesystem on the client. How can I do that? Please Help!!

• Drawing Grid in 3D view - Mathematically calculate points and draw line between them (Not working)

  I'm trying to draw a simple grid from a starting point and expand it to a size. Doing this mathematically and drawing the lines between each point, but since the "DrawPrimitives(LineList)" doesn't work the way it should work, And this method can't even draw lines between four points to create a simple Rectangle, so how does this method work exactly? Some sort of coordinate system: [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][2.2][ ][0.2][ ][2.2][ ] [ ][2.1][1.1][ ][1.1][2.1][ ] [ ][2.0][ ][0.0][ ][2.0][ ] [ ][2.1][1.1][ ][1.1][2.1][ ] [ ][2.2][ ][0.2][ ][2.2][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] I've checked with my method and it's working as it should. It calculates all the points to form a grid. This way I should be able to create Points where to draw line right? This way, if I supply the method with Size = 2 it starts at 0,0 and works it through all the corners (2,2) on each side. So, I have the positions of each point. How do I draw lines between these? VerticeCount = must be number of Points in this case, right? So, tell me, if I can't supply this method with Point A, Point B, Point C, Point D to draw a four vertice rectangle (Point A - B - C - D) - how do I do it? How do I even begin to understand it? As far as I'm concered, that's a "Line list" or a list of points where to draw lines. Can anyone explain what I'm missing? I wish to do this mathematically so I can create a a custom grid that can be altered.

• Wired card not connecting after trying to connect

  I have an Ubuntu 12.10 PC. When I plug in my internet cable it starts connecting and after a minute it says it can't connect. I tried different cables but nothing works. Wlan works. I think it's the network driver but I don't know how to install/update it. • Wifi not working after upgrading from 12.04 to 13.10

  I went through loads of posts looking for an answer to my WiFi problems but can't seem to fix it. I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed and WiFi worked fine with no issues whatsoever but then I upgraded to 13.10 it has stopped working. It shows the available networks but I can't connect to any of them it just does that animation thing then stops working.
