• Private JQuery instance

  We are writing a SaaS like solution that requires our customers to SCRIPT SRC some javascript code we are building (think Google Analytics scenario). We would like to use JQuery. However, since our customers might already have conflicting JQuery versions or other conflicting frameworks (prototype.js for one) we cannot tell them to source jquery.js. We were thinking of coping the jquery source as to create a 'private' jquery instance and simple search/replace the JQuery and $ functions with myJQuery and $J Is there any reason for this not to work? has anyone tried something like this? What can we do about plugins?

• java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/appengine/tools/enhancer/Enhance

  I am new to GAE, I follow the instructions on http://code.google.com/eclipse/docs/install-eclipse-3.7.html. I got the installation and registration done pretty fast. But when I tried to build the helloWorld project in Eclipse, before I can do anything, Eclipse gives me an error says "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/google/appengine/tools/enhancer/Enhance" and it is very weird. Because when you expand the app engine sdk, you can easily find the Enhance class under related jar file. I also tried Enhance e = null; and it is working. It seems that my eclipse just cannot find it. I don't know why it is not working, I am using JDK1.6, I reinstall my eclipse and the google plugins, I even disabled my firewall. Please help!!!

• Rails: Internationalization of Javascript Strings?

  So, we have an existing Rails 2.3.5 app that does not support Internationalization at all. Now, I'm well familiar with Rails I8n stuff, but we have a LOT of output strings inside /javascripts/. I'm not a huge fan of this approach, but unfortunately it is too late to fix it now. How might we internationalize strings stored in JS files in a Rails app? Rails doesn't even serve the JS files... I'm thinking I could always have the Rails app serve up the JS files, but that seems pretty gross. Are there plugins to do this? Yikes.

• ASP.NET AJAX or jQuery (UpdatePanel/ScriptManager or UFrame/jQuery.ajax)

  Hi, We use the asp.net UpdatePanel and the ScriptManager/ScriptManagerProxy for ajax related functionality; reducing full page refreshes and calling WCF Services respectively. we also use jQuery and plugins for some parts of the UI. We have had some issues with javascript library related conflicts, but have come across some posts indicating that there is a lot more overhead using the UpdatePanel. I have found some limited reference to UFrame: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/uframe.aspx www.codeplex.com/uframe Is this a commercially viable replacement for the asp.net UpdatePanel? We use a ScriptManagerProxy to reference WCF services and easily create and use a proxy to call the various WCF service methods. Would using jQuery ajax be a more efficient solution here? We have got this working well on various browsers but now seem to be getting some security related issues (as seen in FF Firebug: Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012) which seem to have started since using jQuery a lot more. Is it possible/viable to not use ASP.NET Ajax at all?

When I'm viewing this in HTML i get the following.   I'm looking for a barebones javascript example that demonstrates how the javascript plugin architecture works with large javascript libraries (such as raphael or jquery). In either scenario, you build plugins by ensuring your custom plugin follows this pattern: jQuery.fn.pluginName -- so assume I have a library: myLibrary = (function() { //my fancy javascript code return function() { //my return object }; }); How would fn be incorporated into the above myLibrary object to ensure that he resulting plugin is callable? I instantiate myLibrary like so: var lib = new myLibrary(); And now I have included a reference to my plugin in my page: myLibrary.fn.simplePlugin = function() { //more fancy code } So finally, I can just call: lib.simplePlugin(); Basically, what magic is actually occuring when the .fn is used during the creation of the plugin?

• Need Magic jQuery Replacement for Selectbox Dropdown Form Element. Thank you!

  Hello! I'm stuck on a problem and, after what seems like days of searching for a solution, I'm reaching out to Stack Overflow for help. I'm trying to replace a standard dropdown form element with a Textbox and a Div containing an unordered list. I'd prefer to have the solution be based on jQuery, but am open to alternatives. I've found a couple jQuery plugins that -almost- do what I need, but are far enough from being a real solution that I need to keep looking. Here's an image of what I'm going for: I'd like the dropdown to look as pictured, and when an element is selected (with mouse or keyboard), have just the first line handed back into the textbox (and not be editable). I'd also like to populate a hidden input field with a value that will be used on Submit. I'm pulling my hair out over this one. Any help and guidance will be most appreciated! Thanks! ~PF

• maven compile fails because i have a non-maven jar

• Accessing PostGIS spatial data from Rails

  I need to use an existing PostGIS database from my Rails application. So far I am able to access the DB just fine, GeoRuby nicely converts the 'geom' column into a Point object. What I am looking for is an easy way to execute ActiveRecord-like queries on those tables, e.g. Poi.find_within_radius(...) or similar spatial queries like distance calculations et. al. I tried several combinations of geokit, accompanying rails plugins but I'm quite sure there must be something better out there in the ruby/rails universe. Any hints?

(Web Sites) I know about the existence of tools such as Eclipse+plugins and Flash Develop for the coding but I am most concerned about the graphics part. Is there any tool out there to create SWFs with all the graphics for animate with AS3 later? • Displaying Powerpoint slides on a web page automatically

  Anyone know of any Flash components that would do the job of displaying an external PPT/PPTX file in a Flash movie on a web page? Or a way of automatically parsing uploaded Powerpoint docs from a PHP-based CMS and displaying them on a web page. Our client needs to be able to upload a Powerpoint documents on their site without any intervention (if necessary). I know about Slideshare and the like, but the content needs to live on the client's web server due to security restrictions. Also, Adobe Presenter seems to require Adobe software/plugins on the clients machine which wouldn't be ideal. Thanks in advance

• What are some RCP Deployment Options?

  We have an RCP application and we are looking for a better way to do installation/updates. Currently to install, they just unzip a zip file. The zip file also contains scripts in it that are not java code. We were running into some bugs when updating if they don't first delete the old folder that was previous unzipped. The issue with deleting the folder is that the user loses the plugin preferences that were set. The installation would also need to register a COM server. The update would have to update the plugins and also replace the current script folder. What are some of the best options that could be used for installing and updating rcp apps? Thanks!

I already have jQuery and asp.net ajax included in my project but I am not sure which implementation of history.back is better. Better for me is: Already used by some large projects Wide browser support Easy to implement Little footprint Does anybody know which one is better? EDIT: Another jquery plugin is http://plugins.jquery.com/project/history It is recommmended in the book JQuery Cookbook. This one worked well so far.

• grails clean having issues

  Im running grails 1.2 on win7. when i try to do grails clean it fails to remove some jars in my acegi plugin. after that failure, it complains about not finding the plugin descriptor. I am forced to remove all plugins from the disk manually and then run the app again to download them again. the particular jar in acegi is ant-contrib-xx.jar. has anyone seen this? as a further note, if i just delete the acegi directory after the initial failure it fails on a jar in another plugin. I dont know if Im having some sort of windows filesystem issue (I am coming from linux, forced to use win7 because intellij sucks on linux), or intellij is doing something, or what...

  I have a script that dynamically loads iframes inside a webpage. You can see the demo here: DEMO I want to use jquery to achieve the same rseult, but with a nice sliding effect. Basically, I have 10 links on a page. When the link is clicked, I want the iframe window to load in the new content and apply an effect to the transition.   Hi Folks, I'm complaining about the growth of jQuery tagged questions at stackoverflow. There are so many people who ask, 'How to implement a specific plugin?' or 'How to use that plugin?' which makes me kinda sick. IMO: If you Tag a question to jQuery, javascript or C, it should be a question about the language itself and not some 'goofy' little plugin. Best case scenario, Tag those questions with jquery-plugins. I know I'm breaking my own rule along with this post, but I just realized that trend and I'm really interested in other opinions about that. Kind Regards --Andy

• Debugging JavaScript in Internet Explorer

  I am working on a relatively complex JavaScript-driven website. It runs great in all browsers except Internet Explorer. I am getting this very curious error: "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 93,865,600. Error: Expected ';'" The issue is, I don't have 93 million lines of code, and clicking "Yes" doesn't attach to Visual Studio like it normally does. I can click on 'No' and the website continues to run fine, but if a user doesn't have JavaScript debugging disabled, I don't want them to see this meaningless error. Suggestions/Tools/Plugins to get to the bottom of this? And yeah, I learned my lesson, switch over and check my project in Internet Explorer more often... Thanks,

• cs5 building swf for the wrong version

  Hey folks, I'm pretty new to flash, so maybe I'm missing something. I'm using CS5 flash professional to build a swf. I have it publishing to flash 8, actionscript 2. but it will only work with browsers that have 10.1+ plugins, no matter what I try. is there something really obvious that I'm missing?   Hello - I am building an iFrame and am using document.location.href - my exact code is: <script type="text/javascript"> document.write("<iframe src='http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=" + document.location.href + "&layout=standard&show_faces=false&action=like&font=verdana&colorscheme=light' frameborder=0></iframe>"); </script> This is working great for all of my pages except one. I believe the issue with the one page is caused by a dash "-" being in the page name. My questions is - is there a way to encode my src differently so that the link works? The CORRECT URL I want it to pull is: []/products/Product%252dExample.html But what it IS pulling in is: []/products/Product-Example.html And this is causing the page to not work correctly. Thanks!

• Improve responsiveness of $(...).click on touch interface

  I need access to a web-based on screen keyboard which will be used on a touch interface. This example looks nice and functional, however when I try it on an iPad, the responsiveness it very low IMHO. It's not comfortable to use and sometimes whole words are misspelled due to slow response. Is there a way to improve the experience on this type of on screen keyboard? This implementation uses the $('#id').click(...); function to process the events. Is there a better way to achieve the goal of typing on the screen? Are there better plugins out there? Note: The final application will run on different types of devices. For several reasons, native on screen keyboards are no option.

• Deploy CakePHP to a subfolder

  I have created a CakePHP 2 app, and now I'm trying to deploy it to a production web server. My app uses the default folder structure (app/lib/plugins/vendors), default htaccess, default routing, nothing special. I've been developing locally as if the app were in the root folder of the site (e.g. http://mycakeapp.localhost/ takes me to the site). But I'm deploying to a site (shared hosting) where that will not be the case (e.g. http://www.somedomain.com/mycakeapp). It doesn't work (I didn't really expect it to), so I assumed I had to tweak one or more htaccess files. I tried modifying the root .htaccess as suggested in this post, but that only partially worked (the link to the CSS didn't work, for instance): <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^mycakeapp$ mycakeapp/app/webroot/ [L] RewriteRule ^mycakeapp/(.*)$ mycakeapp/app/webroot/$1 [L] </IfModule> So what should I do to all the htaccess files to make this CakePHP site work in a subfolder?

• PHP upload with progress bar

  Hi all I want to create an upload form to upload large files. Thats pretty much easy, however, the upload process itself taks long and basically looks like nothing is happening for a few minutes. So now I'd like to insert a progress bar to show the user that something is happening and they should just sit tight. I've read of numerous methods like APC and certian flash plugins, but my site is hosted on a shared server and I cant install any new applications on it. I'm thinking, maybe if it is possible to read the size of the temp file it creates via an ajax page. By polling the size every few seconds I should be able to get the progress of the upload. Now the question I pose is...where is the temp file situated?

• XSD traversal in VIM

  I use VIM as my text editor and I edit a lot of XML and WSDL files. WSDL files have an XSD section. Is there some VIM plugin I can use to traverse the XSD types? i.e., if I have the following line and the caret is where the '|' sign is: <xsd:element minOccurs="0" name="FooName" type="Magic|FooType"/> and I press Ctrl+Alt+Foo (or some other magic combo) it will get me to the definition of MagicFooType, i.e.: <xsd:complexType name="MagicFooType"> I couldn't find how to use ctags for this and all the other plugins that I could find are for imperative languages (i.e. Java). Is there some plugin/script to do the job?

• Flex Debugger wont launch - Only on particular project.

  When trying to launch Flex debaugger on my project, it does not launch and I get an error instead. Every other project in different workspaces launches just fine. This is the only one giving me an issue. Here is the error: Process terminated without establishing connection to debugger.
