• Passenger problem: "no such file to load" -- /config/environment

  I've been researching this one and found references to similar problems here and there, but none of them has led to a solution yet. I've installed passenger (2.2.11) and nginx (0.7.64) and when I start things up and hit a Rails URL, I get an error page informing me of a load error: no such file to load -- /path/to/app/config/environment From what I've found online this appears to be some sort of a user/permissions error, but I've tried all the logical fixes: I've made sure that /config/environment.rb is not owned by root, but by a webapp user. I've tried setting passenger_default_user, I've tried setting passenger_user_switching off. I've even tried setting the nginx user, though that shouldn't matter much. I've gotten some differing results, but nothing's actually worked. I'm hoping someone may have the magical combination of settings and permissions for this. I may try backing down to an earlier version of Passenger, because I've never had this issue before; it's been a little while since I set up Passenger though. Thanks for any suggestions.

• Which is the best Linux C/C++ debugger (or front-end to gdb) to help teaching programming?

  I teach a sort of "lite" C++ programming course to novices ("lite" meaning no pointers, no classes, just plain old C, plus references and STL string and vectors). Students have no previous experience in programming, so I believe that using an interactive debugger would help them understand program flow, variables, and recursion. The course is taught in Linux. Teaching them to use gdb is just overkill (they will not use nor understand most features). I just need something simple but easy to use: to see at which line the program is now, what is in the stack (local variables, previous calls, etc.). I look something similar to old Turbo Pascal or Turbo C++ Borland's debugger, or Visual Studio debugger. Thank you,

• perl script grabbing environment vars from "someplace else"

  On a Solaris box in a "mysterious production system" I'm running a perl script that references an environment variable. No big deal. The contents of that variable from the shell both pre and post execution are what I expect. However, when reported by the script, it appears as though it's running in some other sub-shell which is clobbering my vars with different values for the duration of the script. Unfortunately I really can't paste the code. I'm trying to get an atomic case, but I'm at my wit's end here. Thoughts?

  I have created a foreign key (in mssql / tsql) by: alter table company add CountryID varchar(3); alter table company add constraint Company_CountryID_FK foreign key(CountryID) references Country; I then run this query: alter table company drop column CountryID; and I get this error: Msg 5074, Level 16, State 4, Line 2 The object 'Company_CountryID_FK' is dependent on column 'CountryID'. Msg 4922, Level 16, State 9, Line 2 ALTER TABLE DROP COLUMN CountryID failed because one or more objects access this column. I have tried this, yet it does not seem to work: alter table company drop foreign key Company_CountryID_FK; alter table company drop column CountryID; What do I need to do to drop the CountryID column? • "Unable to get system library for project" after I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and ADT 8.0

  Today I upgraded to Android SDK 2.3 and I also upgraded the Eclipse Plugin Androi Developer Tools 8.0 (from 0.9.9). I also upgraded my Java Development Kit to 1.6_22. Now in Eclipse I get many errors in all my Android projects. The error messages are like: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files. How can I fix this so I can use my Android projects again? In the Build Path for these projects, I don't have any references to an android.jar but a message: Unable to get system library for project

• Why wasn't C# designed with 'const' for variables and methods?

  I suspect const was simplified for the C# spec for general language simplicity. • jQuery - how to pass $(this) as an object?

I'm trying to pass an object into a function but think there's a problem with $(this) not actually being valid at the point of passing it in. $('textarea#quote').live('bind',function(){ }).limit('10',$(this).parents('form').children().find('span#qc') ); The second parameter can be either a string or an object like $('span#qc'), but I also want to be able to pass in an object which references the current one. Why? Because I have several forms on same page, each containing textarea#quote, so depending on which form is selected I want to be able to reference a particular element within the same form. • What should happen when a reference is deleted?

  I have a vb.net 3.5 application which references a dll (abc.dll, also in .net 3.5) This dll is accessed by the application from time to time. If at anytime during execution, if I delete the dll, I expect the application to throw an error the next time it tries to use a class from the dll. But, this is not the behaviour I see. If I delete the dll before startup, the application throws an error at startup. But not when the dll is deleted after startup. Is this the standard behaviour, or am I doing something wrong? Can I get the app to throw an error if the dll is not found when it tries to use its classes? Thanks in advance.

  so i have a class ClassA that contains an enum MyEnum, and a class ClassB that references that class (different Projects) and so in ClassB i have a using ClassA; clause and i can access that enum using something like MyEnum value = MyEnum.EnumValue; Now on a third project i have my Windows form and it has a clause like using ClassB; Now what can i add in ClassB to acess that enum on my windows Form? Is it even Possible? i would like to avoid having to add ClassA to my form just to access an enum. The idea is that ClassB is sort of a manager between my form and the functionality in ClassA - but i would like to get access to that enum as it makes a lot of tasks easier

• debugging c# silverlight projects from vb web application

  Hi, I have a problem whereby I cannot debug a c# silverlight application project that is hosted from within a visual basic web application. I add breakpoints to the main App constructor and the symbols are loaded ok but my breakpoints are never hit. I have concluded that it is a vb/c# interop problem as to test i did the following. Created a new c# web application project Added a c# silverlight application Added a new vb web application project Added references to the silverlight project from both web apps set a breakpoint in App.xaml.cs constructor if i run the c# webapp the break points are hit whereas if i run the vb webapp they are not. has anyone come across this before or can anyone suggest a solution please? • cocoa - referencing a method on the parent

  I had a method on my main view controller named "calculateThis". This method was run, obviously, as int newValue = [self calculateThis:myVariable]; when I run it from inside the view controller. Then I created a static class and I need to run this method from there. How do I reference this method from that class using just relative references, as super, superview, delegate, etc. I cannot use the class name defined on the delegate because this static class is used in several apps of mine.

• Working with Form Array's in Coldfusion?

  I have no idea how to handle this in coldfusion 9, I have a form being submitted (POST) with element checkboxes, called items[]. When I do a <cfdump var="#form#" /> no-problem, I get all the items shown with the proper names like items[] eg: struct ITEMS[] 13,14 FIELDNAMES ITEMS[] however doing a <cfdump var="#form.items[]#" /> results in an error. How do I access the CF9 field values? Somehow loop through it? I cannot seem to do anything with the array to get the id's out of it? Thoughts, I'm kindof stumped and coldfusion isn't the easiest language to find examples / references on the net ;) Is there a correct way to deal with this? I need to get the ID's out of there so I can referenc what lines were checked in the form, so I can follow up with an action. Thanks!

• Does a Perl module know where it is installed?

  Hi Perl programmers, I have started creating a Perl package that contains a default email template. The MANIFEST looks something like: SendMyEmail.pm SendMyEmail/defualt_email.tt Currently I know where the module (and the template) are - but does the module itself know where on disk it is? So could the module find the default template without my help? # This is what I would like to do. package SendMyEmail; sub new { my ($self, $template) = @_; $template ||= $dir_of_SendMyEmail .'/SendMyEmail/default_email.tt'; # ?? } Is there a better way of including a templates text, or a better place to put the template? • Android/Eclipse: Creating multiple builds with different com identifiers.

  Hi, I have an app that requires two builds - one is a demo app, the other uses the same codebase but uses a flag to introduce different functionality. The identifier must be different each time (e.g. com.siteA.appA and com.siteB.appB). However it doesn't appear to be trivial to use the refactor functionality in Eclipse to change the com identifier - all references change apart from the "import com.siteA.appA.R" reference. Is there a way to create different builds with different com identifiers/app name within Eclipse? Thanks

• Allowing AsyncTask to Manipulate Values in Different Activity Classes

  Hi guys, This title may seem strange, so let me try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have several activity classes, each representing a different view in my application. My initial activity class gets loaded when the application launches. The user enters values and eventually a TCP socket is opened, and I then use AsyncTask to listen for and respond to messages from the server. I'd like for this AsyncTask class to essentially listen until the app is closed/error condition reached, and be able to update values in other activity classes after they are started. Does this make sense (it's been a long, frustrating night)? I know that static activity class references are bad practice, and touching the UI thread from other activities is bad as well, but I'm having trouble finding a clean solution to this problem. Maybe using AsyncTask is not the best approach here? Should I be using a service instead or something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

• SvcUtil and /dconly generates XSD's for data types NOT marked with the DataContract attribute.

  Has anyone ever encountered a problem with Svcutil and the /dconly option where it generates metadata for EVERY data type in an Assembly, even if it is NOT marked with with the [DataContract()] attribute? It also appears to be generating metadata for types only referenced in the code, such as XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas even though these are not a part of the physical assembly that I generated metadata on. Some info: Using the .NET 4.0 version of SvcUtil. Does not matter if class is empty or not. No references are specified in the command line for SvcUtil. • How to Get SharePoint PowerShell to use .NET 2

  I'm having a couple of problems with PowerShell. First, the PS configuration installed by SharePoint 2010 keeps popping this message: The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered. I've googled that, and given everybody and their second cousin Sharepoint_Shell_Access to the config DB, with no luck. So, I wanted to try some of the PS commands. In this case, however, I'm getting a different error: Microsoft SharePoint is not supported with version 4.0.30319.17929 of the Microsoft .Net Runtime. I get that SP can't use .NET 4.0 or 4.5, but I can't find any suggestions on how to get PS to use the "right" version of .NET. I've found some references for something called PowerGUI, and changing the psgui.exe.config, but I don't have that. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve the .NET version problem?   After enabling strict warnings in PHP 5.2, I saw a load of strict standards warnings from a project that was originally written without strict warnings: Strict Standards: Static function Program::getSelectSQL() should not be abstract in Program.class.inc The function in question belongs to an abstract parent class Program and is declared abstract static because it should be implemented in its child classes, such as TVProgram. I did find references to this change here: Dropped abstract static class functions. Due to an oversight, PHP 5.0.x and 5.1.x allowed abstract static functions in classes. As of PHP 5.2.x, only interfaces can have them. My question is: can someone explain in a clear way why there shouldn't be an abstract static function in PHP?

I have a table and one of its column is referring to another column in another table (in the same database) as foreign key, here is the related SQL statement, in more details, column [AnotherID] in table [Foo] refers to another table [Goo]'s column [GID] as foreign key. [GID] is primary key and clustered index on table [Goo]. My question is, in this way, if I do not create index on [AnotherID] column on [Foo] explicitly, will there be an index created automatically for [AnotherID] column on [Foo] -- because its foreign key reference column [GID] on table [Goo] already has primary clustered key index? • passing Perl method results as a reference

  Some XML::LibXML methods return arrays instead of references to arrays. Instead of doing this: $self->process_items($xml->findnodes('items/item')); I want to do something like: $self->process_items(\$xml->findnodes('items/item')); So that in process_items() I can dereference the original array instead of creating a copy: sub process_items { my ($self, $items) = @_; foreach my $item (@$items) { # do something... } } I can always store the results of findnodes() into an array and then pass the array reference to my own method, but let's say I want to try a reduced version of my code. Is that the correct syntax for passing the method results or should I use something different? Thanks!

  I am learning Django and got it to work with wsgi. I'm following the tutorial here: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.1/intro/tutorial01/ My question is: how can I customize the look and feel of Django? Is there a repository of templates that "look good", kind of like there are for Wordpress, that I can start from? I find the tutorial counterintuitive in that it goes immediately toward customizing the admin page of Django, rather than the main pages visible to users of the site. Is there an example of a "typical" Django site, with a decent template, that I can look at and built on/modify? The polls application is again not very representative since it's so specialized. any references on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

  I have a table that holds nested categories. I want to avoid duplicate names on same-level items (i.e., categories with same parent).
