Are there any good concise and up-to-date tutorials apart from the official ones that could bring me up to speed on how to use the IDE efficiently (shortcuts, debugging, views ...)? This excludes programming tutorials as I don't really need them unless there's a special manipulation involved.

I had read at link text that all I needed to do was to use call the generator with just a controller name I would get just that. So, I ran "script/generate rspec_controller Properties" and I got an empty controller. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using ControllerClassNameHandlerMapping with @Controller and extending AbstractController

    Hey there, actually I thought I was trying something really simple. ControllerClassNameHandlerMapping sounded great to produce a small spring webapp using a very lean configuration. Just annotate the Controller with @Controller, have it extend AbstractController and the configuration shouldn't need more than this <context:component-scan base-package="test.mypackage.controller" /> <bean id="urlMapping" class="org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.support.ControllerClassNameHandlerMapping" /> to resolve my requests and map them to my controllers. I've mapped the servlet to "*.spring", and calling <approot>/hello.spring All I ever get is an error stating that no mapping was found. If however I extend the MultiActionController, and do something like <approot>/hello/hello.spring it works. Which somehow irritates me, as I would have thought that if that is working, why didn't my first try? Does anyone have any idea?     If you want to modify the default behaviour of a View Controller by changing the value of one of its properties, is it considered better form to instantiate the class and set its property directly, or subclass it and override the property? With the former it would become the parent View Controller's responsibility to configure its children, whereas with the latter the children would effectively configure themselves. EDIT: Some more information: The class I am referring to is FetchedTableViewController, a subclass of UITableViewController that I made to display the results of a Core Data fetch operation. There are two places I want to display the results of a fetch, and they each have different fetch requests. I'm trying to decide whether it's better to create a subclass for each one, and override the fetchRequest property, or make it the responsibility of the parent controller to set the fetchRequest property for its children.

  • LLVM C++ IDE for windows

    Hello Is there some C/C++ IDE for windows, which is integrated with LLVM compiler (and clang C/C++ analyzer), just like modern Xcode do. I have Dev-Cpp (it uses outdated gcc) and Code::Blocks (with some gcc). But Gcc gives me very cryptic error messages. I want to get some more user-friendly error messages from clang frontend. Yes, clang was not able to be used with complex C++ code, but trunk clang already can compile LLVM itself. So I wonder if is there any of llvm IDEs in development or in beta versions. Thanks.

  • Code Bubbles: Disruption comes to the IDE

    If you’re like me, you might see the open source Eclipse IDE as a copy or, more generously, a port of the Microsoft’s Visual Studio for the non-.NET world.  It’s not that Microsoft invented the IDE (I would credit Borland with that), but they really took the idea and ran with it for the first version of Visual Studio .NET in 2002.  The question is whether someone outside of Microsoft could take the modern IDE yet another major step forward in both principle and productivity. I think that has actually happened already, and I think the innovator in question is a second-year Computer Science PhD student at Brown, named Andrew Bragdon.  His project, which he calls Code Bubbles, is an IDE that allows for editing, debugging and exploration of code in “bubbles” which remind me a little bit of the discrete note tiles on OneNote…but they’re much more than that.  Bubbles actually allow for call stack traversal, saved debug sessions, sophisticated breakpoint and value watch behaviors and more.  And because bubbles, unlike windows, are borderless, and focus on code fragments rather than whole files, the de-cluttering effect is unbelievably liberating.  The best way to understand what Code Bubbles does is to watch the screencast video:     Code Bubbles is an IDE for Java development.  Why didn’t Microsoft come up with something like this for .NET devs?  Between the existing features in Visual Studio 2010, its WPF code editor, and the fact that OneNote’s UI bears some affinity to Code Bubbles’, it’s interesting that Microsoft still has not thought outside of its own “box” to get us something like this. Heck, that’s easy for me to say.  But it’s easy for you to say that you’d like something like this in Visual Studio sometime soon.  That’s because the ASP.NET site within UserVoice is taking votes on this very issue.  Just click this link and vote! Also, for my own clojure development, I have actually moved to emacs / swank-clojure.

[System.AttributeUsage(System.AttributeTargets.All)] public class Refactor : System.Attribute { private string _message; public Refactor() { _message = string.Empty; } public Refactor(string message) { _message = message; } } Applied to [Refactor("this should be less rubbish")] public virtual void RubbishMethod() { … } Now when someone makes a call to RubbishMethod I'd like the IDE (vs2008) to underline that call in a deep brown colour, similar to if I mark as Obsolete you get a green wave line. Is this possible? I've been racking my brain and hitting the google but I can't find how and where to do this.

    Hello; I am an Emacs lover probably because I love the key binding and I am able to do things very quickly. I also use Eclipse IDE for my Java/Android/Python/ development because it is free, most of my peers use it, and it works. I find myself switching between emacs and Eclipse and the workflow just isn't great. What I would like to do is setup the key bindings in Eclipse so that they are like Emacs. Can someone suggest the best Eclipse plugin I could use for this. Or can anyone talk about how they've used Eclipse to be more Emacs like. Thanks in advance

  • Google Wave as code repository and IDE?

    Is it possible to write a Google Wave plugin that turns it into an IDE for programming? With such an extension, Google Wave would be a replacement for Eclipse etc., and it would naturally be a code repository at the same time (replacing SVN, git, etc.). Users (programmers) would be able to create code files directly in Wave and add collaborators to do pair programming etc. The whole codebase would live in a Wave folder, and an extension would do the building and compiling on the fly. How would one go about writing such an extension?

It seems to run but it doesn't seem to find any tests. If I try to run the following code with the "regular" run command (F7) class MathLibraryTests(unittest.TestCase): def testPlus1Equals2(self): self.assertEqual(1+1, 2) if __name__ == "__main__": unittest.main() it works.     What is a decent IDE for developing JavaScript, I'll be writing both client side stuff and writing for Rhino. Ideally It needs to run on Mac OSX, although something that runs on Windows too would be nice. ADDITIONAL: Having had a play with both js2 and Aptana, I think I'll be continuing to use Aptana. Mainly because I find emacs a bit hard to get my head round, although I did think that the error hi-lighting in js2 was better than that in Aptana. I'm still looking for a way to visually debug my js code that is running atop Rhino...

    Frequently I'm brainstormed with programming ideas that I would like to directly code. More or less like "Wow, that algorithm will rock! I need to write it now!". For this kind of "impulse" to write, I use http://www.jarte.com/ that is a cool portable text editor. If I'm near a cybecafe or a friend computer, I just plug the usb pen drive and start to write... So, I would like: 1) a portable minimalist IDE 2) with minimal OS requirement (ie.: I want run from XP, Vista, etc...) 3) any modern language (I can learn a new language if needed. I just want write/test the algoritm) 4) Syntax Highlight/intellisense is good, but not required 5) Free Is there something like this?
