  • Best ways to move a server room and 80 desktops to a new building

    Need to plan the best way to physically move a server room (12 IBM x3400 towers) and all associated networking equipment to a new building. Everything is going, comms (80 strong call centre operation), desktops(80-90) the whole lot and has to be done efficiently over a weekend. What I cant seem to find are the best ways to move equipment, i.e is it best to remove hard drives and pack them separetely, do I pack the chassis' with foam and/or surround them in bubble wrap? Are there specific products designed to move computer equipment and where would I find these. The internet has failed me so far, please help

  • Windows move onto second monitor when I turn it on

    I'm using a small monitor for my main display I also have an LCD TV hooked up through HDMI as my secondary display. The problem is whenever I turn on the TV most but usually not all of my currently running program windows jump to the secondary display. This is very annoying, because I don't like to keep my TV on unless I'm using it. So when I do turn it on I have to drag and drop each of the windows back on to my main display. I have played around with some Compiz settings to no avail please help.

  • LINQ to DataSet Dataclass assignment question

    Hi all, I'm working on a Silverlight project trying to access a database using LINQ To DataSet and then sending data over to Silverlight via .ASMX web service. I've defined my DataSet using the Server Explorer tool (dragging and dropping all the different tables that I'm interested in). The DataSet is able to access the server and database with no issues. Below is code from one of my Web Methods: public List<ClassSpecification> getSpecifications() { DataSet2TableAdapters.SpecificationTableAdapter Sta = new DataSet2TableAdapters.SpecificationTableAdapter(); return (from Spec in Sta.GetData().AsEnumerable() select new ClassSpecification() { Specification = Spec.Field<String>("Specification"), SpecificationType = Spec.Field<string>("SpecificationType"), StatusChange = Spec.Field<DateTime>("StatusChange"), Spec = Spec.Field<int>("Spec") }).ToList<ClassSpecification>(); } I created a "ClassSpecification" data class which is going to contain my data and it has all the table fields as properties. My question is, is there a quicker way of doing the assignment than what is shown here? There are actually about 10 more fields, and I would imagine that since my DataSet knows my table definition, that I would have a quicker way of doing the assignment than going field by field. I tried just "select new ClassSpecification()).ToList Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I was trying to write a simple method: boolean validate(MyObject o) { // propertyA && propertyB are not primitive types. return o.getPropertyA() == null && o.getPropertyB() == null; } And got a strange error on the == null part: Syntax error on token ==. Invalid assignment operator. Maybe my Java is rusty after a season in PLSQL. So I tried a simpler example: Integer i = 4; i == null; // compile error: Syntax error on token ==. Invalid assignment operator. Integer i2 = 4; if (i == null); //No problem How can this be? I'm using jdk160_05. To clarify: I'm not trying to assign anything, just do an && operation between two boolean values.     In a course I am taking we recently had to learn the programming language Scheme. I get all of the basics, which is pretty much all that we have gone though. I'm just having trouble learning to think in the different way that Scheme consists of. I was given an assignment and really do not even know how to start. I have sat here for a few hours trying to figure out how to even get started, but I'm kind of stumped. For the record, I'm not asking for the code to solve this problem, but more of some thoughts to get me on the right track. Anyway, here is the gist of the assignment... We are given a list of ten numbers that represent a voter's votes. The numbers are -1, 0 or 1. Then we are given a list of lists of Candidates, with a name and then ten numbers corresponding to that candidate's votes. These numbers are also -1 0 and 1. So for example. '(0 0 0 -1 -1 1 0 1 0 -1) '(Adams 0 1 -1 0 1 1 0 -1 -1 0 0) We are asked to implement a function called best_candidates that will take in a list of numbers (Voter) and a list of lists of Candidates. Then we have to compare the votes of the voter against the list of each candidate and return a list of names with the most common votes. So far, I've come up with a few things. I'm just confused on how I will check the values and retain the name of the voter? I guess I'm still stuck in thinking C/Java and it's making this very tough. Any suggestions to help get me started?

Here is how i set up self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView in my files: Delegate.h UIView *locationManagerAccuracyUIView; UILabel *locationManagerAccuracyLabel; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIView *locationManagerAccuracyUIView; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UILabel *locationManagerAccuracyLabel; Delegate.m ... @synthesize locationManagerAccuracyUIView; @synthesize locationManagerAccuracyLabel; ... BTW: Other places in another timer i DO set the alpha to fade in and out and THAT works! So locationManagerAccuracyUIView is valid and defined as a view... Can anyone help me? As an aside: I know, when typing this I used self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView and locationManagerAccuracyUIView interchangeably to see if for some reason that was the issue.   • Are returned locals automatically xvalues

    Following on from a comment I made on this: passing std::vector to constructor and move semantics Is the std::move necessary in the following code, to ensure that the returned value is a xvalue? std::vector<string> buildVector() { std::vector<string> local; // .... build a vector return std::move(local); } It is my understanding that this is required. I have often seen this used when returning a std::unique_ptr from a function, however GManNickG made the following comment: It is my understanding that in a return statement all local variables are automatically xvalues (expiring values) and will be moved, but I'm unsure if that only applies to the returned object itself. So OP should go ahead and put that in there until I'm more confident it shouldn't have to be. :) Can anyone clarify if the std::move is necessary? Is the behaviour compiler dependent?

  • Cocoa/AppleScript move file

    I have a list of file paths and a destination path. I need something (AppleScript, Cocoa) that will move the files from one location to an other. I first tried using the following AppleScript, just to see what happens: set the_folder to (choose folder) tell application "Finder" move selection to the_folder end tell The problem is that it just blindly tries to move a file, nothing like the way Finder actually moves files (i.e. if a file with that name already exists, the AppleScript just throws an error, while Finder would ask you if you want to replace the file). The solution I came up with involved NSFileManager. I won't post the code because it's quite long, but basically I just check if the file already exists before trying to move, and if it exists a NSAlert with Replace/Cancel buttons appear. I have 2 remaining problems: Authorization - if you try to do something to files where you don't have access, the Finder would ask you to authorize. My code just fails... Moving to external drives - when you try to move a file to a different drive, NSFileManager copies the file and then deletes the original. The problem is that NSFileManager doesn't provide anything which I could use to display a progress indicator of what's happening during the copy. Is there anything I could use that is able to move files without these problems? The way I see it, I'm pretty much stuck with checking if the files are writable by the current user and authorize NSFileManager if not (from my understanding of the Authorization Services, this will be quite hard to implement). Oh and, I would also need to check if the destination is on the same drive and if not, implement something with FSCopyObjectAsync so that it shows a progress indicator... Thanks!

    I am trying to design a RESTful filesystem-like service, and copy/move operations are causing me some trouble. First of all, uploading a new file is done using a PUT to the file's ultimate URL: PUT /folders/42/contents/<name> The question is, what if the new file already resides on the system under a different URL? Copy/move Idea 1: PUTs with custom headers. This is similar to S3's copy. A PUT that looks the same as the upload, but with a custom header: PUT /folders/42/contents/<name> X-custom-source: /files/5 This is nice because it's easy to change the file's name at copy/move time. However, S3 doesn't offer a move operation, perhaps because a move using this scheme won't be idempotent. Copy/move Idea 2: POST to parent folder. This is similar to the Google Docs copy. A POST to the destination folder with XML content describing the source file: POST /folders/42/contents ... <source>/files/5</source> <newName>foo</newName> I might be able to POST to the file's new URL to change its name..? Otherwise I'm stuck with specifying a new name in the XML content, which amplifies the RPCness of this idea. It's also not as consistent with the upload operation as idea 1. Ultimately I'm looking for something that's easy to use and understand, so in addition to criticism of the above, new ideas are certainly welcome!

By query shrinking and then checking Event Viewer, this is the file: The last unmovable file appears to be: \ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Wi ndows\Projects\SystemIndex\Indexer\CiFiles\0001001 5.wid::$DATA I was wondering how to move this file away? I guess I have to move the whole \ProgramData away, not just that file?

    When I plug my Canon PowerShot digital camera into Snow Leopard, it automatically opens iPhoto and asks to import the pictures, but does not mount the camera on the desktop (from what I read, it's a Canon feature to prevent people from screwing up the file system on the memory card, or something). Is there a way I can move photos I've already imported back on to the camera? I can't seem to figure out how to move stuff from Snow Leopard to the camera using iPhoto, and since it doesn't mount....

  • Move files on windows7 ntfs dead slow?

    Just installed Win7, and i noticed when i move a file/folder, it actually copies, then deletes. I noticed because if i want to move 40 GB, I must have 40 GB free space. On XP, if I am moving folders and files within the same partition, no matter size, are moved instantly. Only the number of files matters. Any way to get around this? Thanks.
