  • new with exception with Microsoft

    As I'm coding for both Windows and Linux, I have a whole host of problems. Microsoft Visual C++ has no stdint header, but for that I wrote my own. Now I found out that MS C++'s new operator does not throw an exception, so I want to fix this a quickly as possible. I know I can define a Macro with Parameters in Parenthesis, can I define a macro that replaces MyClass x = new MyClass(); with #ifdef MSC_VER if(!(MyClass x = new MyClass()) { throw new std::bad_alloc(); } #else MyClass x = new MyClass(); #endif (or something equivalent), AND works in BOTH MS C++ and G++ ? Or alternatively if that is not possible, a batch file to run over the Code to do this? I have become rather dependent on this exception being thrown.

    everyone. I have installed Postfix on a server with Aliases and Domains from a MySQL Database. It is configured to forward some adresses to other Mail Accounts and also delivers some mails in local mailboxes that will be queried over a dovecot imap server. For this example let there be two users: [email protected] what is a user that gets its mail just forwarded to let's say [email protected] [email protected] what is a user that accesses its mail from local IMAP. Now, I want to fetch some Mails from another mailserver and handle them as if they were sent to a user of my Mailserver. Lets say those corelations exist: [email protected] has two external accounts: [email protected] and [email protected] [email protected] has also one external account [email protected] The Problem is the new mails on that other Mailserver is not always in the inbox, it might be in subdirectories: mailinglists/all or mailinglists/it but also in mailinglists/some-other-department which is not interesting and should not be delivered. I already found a programm called fetchmail but I cannot find how to fetch subdirectories or decide which subdirectories are fetched.

My view on this is because SysAdmins are not promoting it within the organisations because Internet Explorer has features which make it more acceptable to an enterprise, such as Managing settings via GPO Integration into the rest of the update stack Support of common business applications So what would you add to Firefox to get it more promotion by SysAdmins in the enterprise?

    Hi, I have a page in which i have provided a link clicking on which should redirect to a new page on the new window. My code is <a href="javascript:void(0);" class="webMnu" onclick="window.open('http://proschoolonline.com/payments','plain');">Enroll</a> The problem is that it is working fine in firefox(opens in a new tab) but in internet explorer its opening in a popup (not in a new tab).   • svn dev cycle. howto lots minor "features" pending for approval.

    Hi I've read similar questions regarding that but still feel the need to ask a question. I have scenario where we have lots of tiny "features" pending for approval. I generally see two approaches. 1.Keep trunk solid and have tons of branches for each tiny "feature". Basically every new thingy is a branch. Cons: - Might become nightmare to support so many branches no matter how small a change. Keeping all branches in sync etc etc. - Worst con I see in this is setup of test system so one can easily examine changes to approve (basically need to support all branches which seems insane). Pros: - Seemningly easy once approved a branch to be merged back to trunk and new release to be tagged and deployed. 2.For big features a branch is released and for small changes all goes in trunk(relatively stable) directly. Pros: - Easier to set test system as most of the time all will be directly visible. For big features should be easy to maintain separate branch on test. Cons: - Don't really see how release will go. I will not be able to basically release one part of trunk This would involve cherrypicking which is crazy to follow. Other approach is I just enforce that after some time (a week or so) all small features need to be approved so they can deployed before giving new tasks. I just create release branch and either all or none of small features are going live. This will be some fun discussion with head people. I guess having lots of small pending stuff is very problematic to follow technically.

  • Win7 - Opening "Programs and Features" as Admin from command line (logged in as regular user)

    We have Win7 machines on a domain that we'd like to open the "Programs and Features" control applet via the command line while a regular user is logged in. Heres the catch: I know how to do this using runas from command line BUT after "Programs and Features" opens, I dont truly have the ability to remove a program. I am told that I need to be an Admin to do so. Here are the commands I have tried: runas /user:%computername%\administrator cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: control appwiz.cpl runas /user:%companydomain%\%domainadminacct% cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: control appwiz.cpl runas /user:%computername%\administrator cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl runas /user:%companydomain%\%domainadminacct% cmd.exe then in the new cmd window running: rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL appwiz.cpl I have also tried all of the above as one long line of code instead of launching a cmd.exe as Admin As you can see, I have tried running the command using both a local admin account (Administrator) AND a domain admin account. I have alos tried launching the runas command as one long command (opening the "programs and features") AND 1st launching a cmd.exe with admin rights and THEN launching the "Prgrams and Features" window. The result is the same: The "Programs and Features" windows opens but when I try to perform an uninstall, I am told I need Admin rights. Thus I am lead to believe that this instance of "Programs and Features" is not truly being run as an admin I am trying to avoid logging the regular user out. I am also aware that every program has its own uninstaller, I do not want to uninstall that way. I want to use the uninstaller in "Programs and Features". Any help is appreciated.

Feature 1 – Set up Work Items Queries as Team Favorites The task board looks cooler when the team favourite work item queries show up on the task board. The demo setup console application now has the ability to set up the work item queries as team favorites for you. If you want to see how you can add Team Favorites programmatically, refer to this blogpost here. Image 1 – Task board without Team Favorites Let’s see how the TFS Demo Setup application sets-up team favorites as part of the run… Open up the DemoDictionary.xml and you should be able to see the new node <TeamFavorites> this accepts multiple <TeamFavorite>. You simply need to specify the <Type> as Query and in the <Name> specify the name of the work item query that you would like added as a favorite. Image 2 – Highlighting the TeamFavorites block in DemoDictionary.xml So, when the demo set up application is run with the above config, work item queries “Blocked Tasks” and “Open Impediments” are added as team favorites. They then show up on the task board, as highlighted in the screen shot below. Image 3 – Team Favorites setup during the TFS demo setup app execution Feature 2 – Choose what you want to setup and exclude the rest I had a great feature request come in requesting the ability to exclude parts of the setup at the sole discretion of the executioner. To accommodate this, I have added an attribute with each block, the attribute “Run” accepts “true” or “false”. If you set the flag to true then at the time of execution that block would be considered for setup and if you set the flag to false, the block will be ignored during the setup. So, lets look at an example below… The attribute "Run” is set to true for TeamSettings, Team Favorites, TeamMembers and WorkItems. So, all of these would be setup as part of the demo setup application execution. Image 4 – New Attribute Run added to all blocks in DemoDictionary.xml If I did not want to recreate the team and did not want to add new work items but only wanted to add favorites and team members to the existing team “AgileChamps1” then I could simple run the application with below DemoDictionary.xml. Note – TeamSettings Run=”false” and WorkItems Run=”false”. Image 5 – TeamFavorites and TeamMembers set as true and others set to false Feature 3 – Usability Improvement If you try and assign a work item to a team member that does not exist then the application throws a nasty exception. This behaviour has now been changed, upon adding such a work item, the work items will be created and not assigned to any user. The work item id will be printed to the console making it simple for you to assign the work item manually. As you can see in the screen shot below, I am trying to assign the work item to a user “Tarun” and a user “v2” both are *not valid users in my team project collection* so the tool creates the work items and provides me the work item id and lets me know that since the user is invalid the work item could not be assigned to the user. Better user experience ae Image 6 – Behaviour if work item assigned to users are in valid users in team project That’s about it for the current release.   • How to Edit or Add a New Row in jqGrid

    My jqGrid that does a great job of pulling data from my database, but I'm having trouble understanding how the Add New Row functionality works. Right now, I'm able to edit inline data, but I'm not able to create a new row using the Modal Box. I'm missing that extra logic that says, "If this is a new row, post this to the server side URL" instead of modifying existing data. (Right now, hitting Submit only clears the form and reloads the grid data.) The documentation states that Add New Row is: jQuery("#editgrid").jqGrid('editGridRow',"new",{height:280,reloadAfterSubmit:false}); but I'm not sure how to use that correctly. I've spent alot of time studying the Demos, but they seem to all use an external button to fire the new row command, rather than using the Modal Form, which I want to do.     Hello. I want to handle following scenarios in my new web application. If multiple users log into the application with same credentials, the application should deny access. Since I have out of process session store, I would be able to make out when this situation happens. So I can deny all requests after first successful attempt. This will however not work if the user instead of logging out of the application, closes the browser. The session will continue to reflect in the store for the period of timeout value. If a user attempts to open a new browser windows (Ctrl+N), the application should defeat this attempt. Every new page can potentially fiddle with cookies. I want to therefore deny the users the ability to open new window.

  • How to prevent a globally overridden "new" operator from being linked in from external library

    In our iPhone XCode 3.2.1 project, we're linking in 2 external static C++ libraries, libBlue.a and libGreen.a. libBlue.a globally overrides the "new" operator for it's own memory management. However, when we build our project, libGreen.a winds up using libBlue's new operator, which results in a crash (presumably because libBlue.a is making assumptions about the kinds of structures being allocated). Both libBlue.a and libGreen.a are provided by 3rd parties, so we can't change any of their source code or build options. When we remove libBlue.a from the project, libGreen.a doesn't have any issues. However, no amount of shuffling the linking order of the libraries seems to fix the problem, nor does any experimentation with the various linking flags. Is there some way to tell XCode to tell the linker to "have libGreen's use of the new operator use the standard C++ new operator rather than the one redefined by libBlue"?

  • Reallocating memory via "new" in C++

    Quick question regarding memory management in C++ If I do the following operation: pointer = new char [strlen(someinput_input)+1]; And then perform it again, with perhaps a different result being returned from strlen(someinput_input). Does this result in memory being left allocated from the previous "new" statement? IE, is each new statement receiving another block of HEAP memory from the OS, or is it simply reallocating? Assuming I do a final delete pointer[]; will that deallocate any and all memory that I ever allocated via new to that pointer? Thanks

  • Pasting to Excel from Word - stop a Word new line being converted into a new cell

    So I have a table in MS Word which has two columns. In the second column the text is spread on multiple lines, ie I have pressed 'Enter' to achieve this. When I paste into Excel, it converts these separate lines into separate cells. What I want it to do is to keep the lines in the same cell, just on different lines, ie what would happen if I were to press Alt+Enter in a cell in excel. How would I go about this?

    Hey all I'm looking to edit my app so that when a text within an xml file is selected, a new window opens. I've found various ways of making a new screen open via a class, but I need it done from a xml file. My program as a tablayout, and here is some of the stuff displayed within my first tab: <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> android:id="@+id/ScrollView01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" <TextView android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:text="First Header here" android:textStyle="bold" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> <TextView android:textColor="#FFFFFF" android:text="First body text here" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> So basically I need it so that when a text is selected, a new screen pops up. As said the reason this specifically has to be done in xml is because this is all apart of a tab layout, It would be great if the next within each tab could open a a new screen. Thanks.

    I'm having the following classes: class Base { public virtual void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Base"); } } class Der1 : Base { public new virtual void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Der1"); } } class Der2 : Der1 { public override void Print() { Console.WriteLine("Der2"); } } This is my main method: Base b = new Der2(); Der1 d1 = new Der2(); Der2 d2 = new Der2(); b.Print(); d1.Print(); d2.Print(); The output is Base, Der2, Der2. As far as I know, Override won't let previous method to run, even if the pointer is pointing to them. So the first line should output Der2 as well. However Base came out. How is it possible? How the override didn't work there?

  • So, "Are Design Patterns Missing Language Features"?

    I saw the answer to this question: How does thinking on design patterns and OOP practices change in dynamic and weakly-typed languages? There it is a link to an article with an outspoken title: Are Design Patterns Missing Language Features. But where you can get snippets that seem very objective and factual and that can be verified from experience like: PaulGraham said "Peter Norvig found that 16 of the 23 patterns in Design Patterns were 'invisible or simpler' in Lisp." and a thing that confirms what I recently seen with people trying to simulate classes in javascript: Of course, nobody ever speaks of the "function" pattern, or the "class" pattern, or numerous other things that we take for granted because most languages provide them as built-in features. OTOH, programmers in a purely PrototypeOrientedLanguage? might well find it convenient to simulate classes with prototypes... I am taking into consideration also that design patterns are a communcation tool and because even with my limited experience participating in building applications I can see as an anti-pattern(ineffective and/or counterproductive) for example forcing a small PHP team to learn GoF patterns for small to medium intranet app, I am aware that scale, scope and purpose can determine what is effective and/or productive. I saw small commercial applications that mixed functional with OOP and still be maintainable, and I don't know if many would need for example in python to write a singleton but for me a simple module does the thing. patterns So are there studies or hands on experience shared that takes into consideration, all this, scale and scope of project, dynamics and size of the team, languages and technologies, so that you don't feel that a (difficult for some)design pattern is there just because there isn't a simpler way to do it or that it cannot be done by a language feature?
