  I have no idea where to start looking. I've been reading about daemons and didn't understand the concept. More details : I've been writing a crawler which never stops and crawlers over RSS in the internet. The crawler has been written in java - therefore its a jar right now. I'm an administrator on a machine that has Ubuntu 11.04 . There is some chances for the machine to crash , so I'd like the crawler to run every time you startup the machine. Furthermore, I'd like it to keep running even when i logged out. I'm not sure this is possible, but most of the time I'm logged out, and I still want to it crawl. Any ideas? Can someone point me in the right direction? Just looking for the simplest solution.

• Whats the right program for me?

  I would like to learn C++ so I can get a job in the game industry, but there are so many options it a little confusing. I know most of you will say I should read up on C++ before attempting to program it but I learn best by doing things rather then reading. That being said I don't understand some of the thing suggested on other questions, because I've read a few trying to find whats right for me, so putting things in the simplest terms would be helpful. I've been making a couple of games 2d using gamemaker and if theres a C++ equivalent that would be perfect, but if not possible I would like an IDE that allows me to easily continue making 2d games, and is fairly simple to learn. Having a 2d sprite editor would be a nice plus but I can understand if its not every thing I want in one program

• 3D Mesh Collision Help

  I am new to XNA (I have only been working in it for a countable number of weeks) as well as to these forums (I have only made 1-2 other posts), so this may seem like a strange request, but I am wondering if anybody knows about more advanced collision in XNA. So far I have only been able to figure out BoundingSphere's which seem to be the simplest of the methods, and I was thinking of looking more into BoundingBoxes because the game I have is a 2-3D platformer. The problem I realized was that if I wanted to get any more advanced than stages in the shape of a box, I would face some immediate dilemmas. I was hoping somebody here was knowledgeable on the subject and could inform me where I could get started learning how to do something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekMD_Gtt8d4 Although the game in this video isn't very pretty, the mesh collision looks like what I'm looking for.   Torrent from the Pirate Bay even though I have Tixati installed and working? Asks for an application which I don't have (apturl or something similar?) Trying to get the latest AMD Radeon drivers automatically installed? the main file downloads...but just shows up in a window full of files but idk where to drag them. And PlayOnLinux my one hope for gaming since Steam is buggin out without proper drivers? Can't figure out where to "mount" the DVD version it asks for. I'm so lost. I dove head first into the Linux thing thinking it was wildly superior, and maybe it is, but dang if the simplest things aren't hard to do. Any help appreciated. I've been reading guides and manuals but what I need is human experience most of all.

• Should I try to write simple key-value storage by myself?

  I need a key-value storage in a simplest form we can think of. Keys should be some fixed-length strings, values should be some texts. This key-value storage should have an HTTP-backed API. That's basically it. As you can see, there is no big difference between such storage and some web application with some upload functionality. The thing is - it'll take few hours (including tests and coffee drinking) to write something like this. "Something like this" will be fully under my control and can be tuned on demand. Should I, in this specific case, not try to reinvent bicycles? Is it better to use some of existing NoSQL solutions. If yes, which one exactly? If, say, I'd needed something SQL-like, I won't ask and won't try to write something by myself. But with NoSQL I just don't know what is adequate and what is not.

  ClearCase Question... Overview of requirements: There are 3 diff environments (DEV, TEST and PROD) which have a folder called 'common' that users across all envs. There are multiple servers in those 3 envs and we want to store their server environment specific configuration files in Clearcase. The executables files are different for each environment. Thus there will not be cross delivery require between dev/test/prod. Any thoughts on how we can approach this? Is keeping it simplest is the best approach here? One component to one vobs as (DEV_Serv1, TEST_Serv1, PROD_Serv1, Dev_Serv2, Test_Serv2 and etc)? OR Have multiple components VOB? One other thing is developers here like to use snapshots views.

  Im pretty undecided about what path to take here. The simplest that comes to mind is just adding a field List to the GameObject class where i would store the things contained in it. But would it be elegant and well tought? And would it be good performance wise?(ofc 99.9% of my objects wouldnt have anything stored in them...) What about deriving a ContainerObject from GameObject? This way only they would have additional fields but then i would have to change many things, my collections of objects would have to become a generic and id have to cast very often into GameObject...

• Synchronize Azure SQL (cloud) with Azure SQL Emulator (local)?

  We have an Azure service (web role) that heavily depends on the database. For offline development/testing, we'd like to have the app+db run offline within the emulators. Running the webrole itself within the emulator is straightforward but doing so for the Azure SQL storage isn't so. What is the simplest way to ensure that the cloud Azure SQL database and the emulator/local Azure SQL database are in sync? We can afford some level of staleness for simplicity of sync operation (meaning it's ok for the local copy to be a few hours stale versus mirroring every write as soon as it happens) Thanks

I thought I would just try to override ArrayAdapter.getFilter(), but that requires I re-implement the private ArrayAdapter.ArrayFilter which requires access to a bunch of ArrayAdapter's private instances.   Hi All, I'm new to EF(any version) and POCO. I'm trying to use POCO entities with a generic repository in a "code-first" mode(?) I've got some POCO Entities (no proxies, no lazy loading, nothing). I have a repository(of T as Entity) which provides me with basic get/getsingle/getfirst functionality which takes a lambda as a parameter (specifically a System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) Now as I'm returning the simplest possible POCO object, none of the relationship parameters work once they've been retrieved from the database (as I would expect). However, I had assumed (wrongly) that my lambda query passed to the repository would be able to use the links between entities as it would be executed against the DB before the simple POCO entities are generated. The flow is: GUI calls: Public Function GetAllTypesForCategory(ByVal CategoryID As Guid) As IEnumerable(Of ItemType) Return ItemTypeRepository.Get(Function(x) x.Category.ID = CategoryID) End Function Get is defined in Repository(of T as Entity): Public Function [Get](ByVal Query As System.Func(Of T, Boolean)) As IEnumerable(Of T) Implements Interfaces.IRepository(Of T).Get Return ObjectSet.Where(Query).ToList() End Function The code doesn't error when this method is called but does when I try to use the result set. (This seems to be a lazy loading behaviour so I tried adding the .ToList() to force eager loading - no difference) I'm using unity/IOC to wire it all up but I believe that's irrelevant to the issue I'm having NB: Relationships between entities are being configured properly and if I turn on proxies/lazy loading/etc... this all just works. I'm intentionally leaving all that turned off as some calls to the BL will be from a website but some will be via WCF - So I want the simplest possible objects. Also, I don't want a change in an object passed to the UI to be committed to the DB if another BL method calls Commit() Can someone please either point out how to make this work or explain why it's not possible? All I want to do is make sure the lambda I pass in is performed against the DB before the results are returned Many thanks.   Hello, When using asp.net ajax (scriptmanager, timer, updatepanel) with ie8, after certain time (~3h) IE breaks with null object, constructor, or paramArray (depending on the asp.net code). Even with the simplest timer (no ajax, no updatepanel) ie8 still breaks. On every other browser it works fine, and if I code the ajax myself it works. Since google and msdn forums turned up nothing I'm wondering if anybody here has had similar problems with ie8 browser.
