• Projecting onto different size screens by cropping

  Hi, I am building a phone application which will display a shape on screen. The shape should look the same on different screen sizes. I. Decided the best way to do this is to show more of the background on larger screen keeping the shapes proportion the same on all screens. My problem is I am not sure how to achieve this, I can query the screen size at runtime and calculate how different it is from the six is designed for but I am not sure what to do with this value. What kind of projection should I use for my orthographic matrix an hour will I display more on larger screens and not loose information on smaller screens? Thanks, Jason.

• php.ini modifications has no effect on joomla

  I have a netbook with a recently installed ubuntu server 12.04 64-bit. I have (only) installed Joomla on it (version 2.5) and now I am trying to tweak the php.ini settings so I can install jomsocial onto joomla. I have changed these settings: upload_max_filesize = 2M post_max_size = 8M to this: upload_max_filesize = 20M post_max_size = 20M in all php.ini-files in my system. Thats six files, found using 'locate': /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini /etc/php5/cli/php.ini /usr/share/doc/php5-common/examples/php.ini-development /usr/share/php5/php.ini-production /usr/share/php5/php.ini-production-dist /usr/share/php5/php.ini-production.cli I have double-checked that these files actually contain the new settings. Still, joomla does not recognize the new settings, stating that upload_max_filesize is still only 2M and post_max_size is still only 8M The same is true after a complete restart of the server. What am I doing wrong here?

  After six months of development on a project, our stakeholders have had a "gut check" and have decided that the path that we've been walking (a custom designed application framework and data access layer) is holding us (the developers) back from quickly developing the features they would like to see. After several days of debate management and the development team have decided to scrap the current incarnation and start over using ASP.net MVC, with Entity Framework as the bases of the a 'quick and dirty', lets just get it done project. In days following, our senior developer who has never worked with MVC or Entity Framework has finally gotten into a sample project and done some work. His take on ASP.net MVC, "this is not software engineering". So my question is this; what do you do, when one doesn't think the code is complicated enough?

• Recommendations for a quick and easy discussion forum installation

  Hello. I did a couple quick searches on this topic and both Google and this site yielded poor results, but I was wondering what's the quickest way to setup a discussion forum on my website. Preferably one that has a decent Admin dashboard. My website is very static (e.g. it has one index.html, a stylesheet, and a javascript) and it will most likely be hosted on GoDaddy.com. The last time I installed a discussion forum was six years ago and it was phpBB. I'm sure that's still an option, but I'm (hoping) wondering if there are better, free, and as-easy alternatives to phpBB. Thanks for your wisdom!

  I recently followed a guide to configure Samba but I couldn't get it configured properly. After realizing that the guide was six years out of date I thought I should start again. I reinstalled samba by first using these commands: sudo apt-get purge samba sudo apt-get install samba But after reading my configuration file (/etc/samba/smb.conf) I noticed that it was the same file, containing the same edits I had made. I then proceeded to delete the directory and then re-install samba again. However, the directory is not replaced after re-instillation and now I don't appear to have a configuration file. How do I get it back? Or install Samba correctly?

  Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID) are a grouped string with a specific format which I assume has a security reason. A GUID is most commonly written in text as a sequence of hexadecimal digits separated into five groups, such as: 3F2504E0-4F89-11D3-9A0C-0305E82C3301 Why aren't GUID/UUID strings just random bytes encoded using hexadecimal of X length? This text notation contains the following fields, separated by hyphens: | Hex digits | Description |------------------------- | 8 | Data1 | 4 | Data2 | 4 | Data3 | 4 | Initial two bytes from Data4 | 12 | Remaining six bytes from Data4 There are also several versions of the UUID standards.   Looking at yesterday, according to Google Analytics, I got six direct visitors to my site (their source/medium is direct/(none)). Only one ended up at the actual domain. The other five ended up at miscellaneous foo.com/xyz.html. I did not send out links to people by email, and I'm not sure how likely it is the people would have copy/pasted the URLs. How do the visitors end up there? Is there a way to better capture where they might be coming from?

Within six months, we have merged with another organization and our Dev team has grown from 8 to 16, with another 8 people in QA. I started using eclipse because I have also done some basic Android development in the past. I soon switched to Netbeans - Eclipse is just too primitive.   Do you change your major/minor/patch version numbers right before you release or right after? Example: You just released 1.0.0 to the world (huzzah!). But wait, don't celebrate too much. 1.1.0 is coming out in six weeks! So you fix a bug and do a new build. What's that build called? 1.1.0.0 or 1.0.0.xxxy (where xxxy is the build number of 1.0.0 incremented)? Keep in mind you may have 100 features and bugs to go into 1.1.0. So it might be good to call it 1.0.0.xxxy, because you're nowhere close to 1.1.0. But on the other hand, another dev may be working on 2.0.0, in which case your build might be better named 1.1.0.0 and his 2.0.0.0 instead of 1.0.0.xxxy and 1.0.0.xxxz, respectively.

I have developed many projects which used frameworks like Struts, Spring, Hibernate, JQuery , DWR, Ajax etc. I have used these technologies in almost all the projects I have worked on. • Oneiric is freezing. Need help diagnosing and filing a bug

  Six months ago, I bought a new Sandy Bridge CPU and built myself a nice desktop machine. Until now it hasn't worked...at all. I finally have gotten it working now that Oneiric is released, but it freezes every so often, making it little more than a semi-functional temptation. What happens when the system freezes is: the music I have playing enters into about 5s loops. SSH fails the monitor freezes the mouse freezes the keyboard fails The only way to fix it is to do a hard reset...and that sucks. I'd love to at least figure out the source of the freeze so I can file a bug. I've looked in dmesg, kern.log, and the X.org logs. Nothing interesting is any of them. Since SSH fails, I'm convinced it's not an X crash: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze Anything else I can do?

• Temenos WealthManager: performance benchmark on Exadata

  Temenos WealthManager is at work in financial institutions of all sizes. No matter the size, each of Temenos’ customers has one requirement in common: a need for fast technology. This led Temenos to conduct a performance benchmark, running its WealthManager platform on Oracle Exadata Database Machine.
