• Minimalistic flatfile "wall" software with authentication and RSS?

  I am looking for an open-source minimalistic "message board" PHP software. Not a forum, more something like one simple facebook wall. The only thing a user can do is post a new message. With RSS, and able to run on flat files (no database) with Apache+PHP Authentication based on a configuration file, no management UI needed.   I'm new to Chef and I think I'm missing something in reading the docs. I want to create servers using knife server create (options) but can't seem to find fully complete documentation on the options. Specifically, how do I find a mapping of server flavors to whatever knife is looking for? Given the official wiki entry for "Launch Cloud Instances with Knife," the following is an example server creation on Rackspace: knife rackspace server create 'role[webserver]' --server-name server01 --image 49 --flavor 2 Likewise, on the Knife Man Page, there are commands for EC2 server images (using --d --distro DISTRO) and for Slicehost servers (using -f --flavor FLAVOR) However, what none of the documentation I've found describes is how to translate what I want to build on Rackspace ("I want Ubuntu 10.04 LTS") to what the integer entry that knife is seeking. It strikes me that, given the lack of a description in the documentation for how to find the flavor, this should be obvious. Thus, I think I'm missing something.

• Cisco VPN and .pcf file

• How to setup etckeeper with Mercurial in Ubuntu?

  Hi, I'm interested in installing etckeeper with Mercurial in my Ubuntu system. My reason is that I don't know how to use Git and don't want to learn at the moment. If I check the package description it sounds promising: kent@rat:~$ apt-cache search etckeeper etckeeper - store /etc in git, mercurial, or bzr I'm wondering how to continue on from here? I've tried Googling but I haven't found anything for the Ubuntu + etckeeper + Mercurial combination. (If you know of a good tutorial for this situation, a link is an excellent answer. • How to setup certificate authentication for MS SQL server 2008 R2 ?

  Hello, I have to connect an (ADO) application running on a standalone Windows 2003 R2 server to a SQL 2008 R2 database that is a member of the domain. I have setup an SQL authentication account for this and hard-coded the password into the connection string but I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to use certificate-based authentication for this instead. I haven't been able to find any documentation regarding this apparently new functionality of SQL 2008 R2 anywhere. Could someone kindly point me at some good documentation ? Or at least a description of the functionality and whether it could be used in my case or not ? Thank you in advance

• Firefox 4 is displaying all text as "bold"

  I installed Firefox 4 this morning excited to checkout some of the new HTML 5 features that have been implemented and found that all text was displayed in a bold font. Here is the comparison with what Firefox 4 is displaying on my machine and Chrome. It is getting really annoying. So far I've... Emptied the cache/history/etc. Re-installed the various core fonts (Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, etc.) Checked the font defaults in FF4. The interesting part to me is that I had FF3.6x on this machine with no problems whatsoever and now this. Any ideas? System Description Windows 7 (x64) Update I just found out that this is happening in IE9 (final) as well. Must be something with the system fonts. Like I said before, this wasn't happening pre-FF4.

• What is "2LUN" mode in connection with RAID?

  I've came across RAID products that also list JBOD (just a bunch of disks) mode and 2LUN mode. What the heck is 2LUN mode? I could not find a description; the closest thing seems to be LUN 'logical unit number' but I don't get the 2LUN thing. UPDATE 1 This is what Wikipedia has to say about JBOD: JBOD (derived from "just a bunch of disks"): an architecture involving multiple hard drives, while making them accessible either as independent hard drives, or as a combined (spanned) single logical volume with no actual RAID functionality. So JBOD can actually mean two different (albeit related) things. Answer of Guest says 2LUN means no spanning. Does this suggest that 2LUN would simply mean the JBOD-variant with no span?

• Starting Redmine at boot using upstart on Ubuntu

  So after installing redmine from the repositories on Ubuntu 12.04, i've tried to create an upstart script (see below) so it would start up at boot time. While service redmine start does start redmine, it does not start automatically when booting. Also when i run service redmine stop it does stop redmine but simply hangs until i press ctrl+c Also, after stopping starting it again does not work (Also just hangs). From all the upstart examples and tutorials i have seen this should work, so i guess i'm overlooking something. • How can I start nginx via upstart ?

Can someone point me in the right direction ? I've read the documentation , as it is, and it seems kind of sparse for a SysV init replacement... but whatever just need to add this job to the list, run it, and get on with what's left of my life... • Anyone interested in obtaining a cable list from a visio Diagram? [closed]

Just wondering if anyone had to deal with the following problem - you have to install over say a 100 network elements and servers - cabling is done via contractors, so you need to provide them with an accurate, error-free cable list - your inputs are a set of detailed, port by port, visio diagrams. Prb is to obtain the cable list and get the cabling started while you're busy crafting the switch/routers configs. I coded a Visio plugin, which I plan to release under the GNU license, that returns a cable list from a diagram, and tested it on intermediate size infrastructure, 2K+ cables. It works well. The tool needs a little work to be user friendly, so before getting started, I wanted to know if that was worth the effort. Questions are welcomed, let me know -A PS: the tool is targeted for those who need a port by port description of their network, in the form Source/slot/port/Destination/slot/port.

• Can USB Hubs affect peripheral performance?

  Like many laptops, mine has 2 USB 2.0 ports. I'm looking to purchase a USB hub for my peripheral devices. I'm also planning on purchasing a laptop cooler with two USB powered fans, which connects to a USB port but can extend the plug, so it doesn't use one up. (Sorry for the poor description; see the link for a picture.) My questions are these: Can one plug 'too many' peripherals into a USB port? Can I plug my fans into a port, then the hub into the fans, then my keyboard and mouse, mic, and webcam into the extender..? Is it possible to draw too much power from a port? Secondly, will a USB hub affect the performance of any of my devices? I'm mostly worried about my mouse and keyboard. I like wired mice because I've noticed some lag in my Bluetooth mouse.

I used the following command to do the backup: wbadmin start systemstatebackup -backupTarget:f: I played around with the settings under "Configure Performance Settings" in the Windows Server Backup plugin in Server Manager but according to the description at the top of the dialog these settings are not applied to system state backups. Are there any settings available for wbadmin system state backup to make the backups incremental?

• Mass remove passwords from rar archives

  Is there a way to (I'm using WinRAR; demo, but I'm willing to change it to whatever is needed) mass remove passwords from a bunch of files ? Problem description: for reasons unknown to me, some archiving was done for two-and-something years in RAR format, and all archives have passwords. I have a list of them, them all being similar (mostly something like John-03, John-04, John-05 ... e.g. name-month ...) but I need to manipulate the files at large, and it is a real problem removing and or dearchiving all those files, while entering passwords manually. What would be my best options concerning ? Ideally, I'm looking for some kind of archiver which tries out a predefined list of passwords, and asks only if non of them cracks the safe. Afaik, WinRAR has no such feature.

The description says it syncs your Outlook email and calendar items with Google Apps, but doesn't using Outlook as an IMAP client against Google Apps do the same?

The mails are all returns from the same server.   Hello there! I don't want to force anybody to make it on behalf of me but trust me: i've looked hundreds of sites and i can't find a good starting point for this. I have 4x500Gb HDD's which i want to set up in RAID 10. The most promising description is here, but it's a little old and unclear for me, above all i prefer Debian over Ubuntu (i know there are slight or no differences). Is it possible to build RAID 10 with Debian's installer or i need to build RAID 1 first in the installer then use mdadm later? In the Memory section, I see a section called Modified (orange) The official description is: Memory whose contents must be to disk before it can be used for another purpose. But I am still confused. What kinds of memory is Modified? In which case can we say that this number of memory is Modified? Can anyone give me a specific example? Is the following guess correct? When a program want to write something into disk, it actually write the content to an IO buffer, which is in the memory. After OS flush this area of memory into disk, the memory is modified or standby?

• Cannot connect to a VPN server - authentication failed with error code 691

  When trying to connect to a VPN server, I get the 691 error code on the client, which say: Error Description: 691: The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. Now, I validated that the username and password are correct, and tried to login with domain name and without. I also installed a certification to use with the IKEv2 security type. I also validated that the VPN server support security method. But I cannot login. In the server log I get this log: Network Policy Server denied access to a user. The user DomainName\UserName connected from IP address but failed an authentication attempt due to the following reason: The remote connection was denied because the user name and password combination you provided is not recognized, or the selected authentication protocol is not permitted on the remote access server. Any idea of what can I do? Thanks in advance!

• Task Manager does not show memory usage

  I just noticed this yesterday. I selected different memory columns, none of them worked, and I've tried showing processes from all users. I'm using Win 7. It doesn't slow down my computer or does anything else. I just want to know why and how to fix it. Could anyone help me on this? • Creating a vm using Hyper-V causes the host of BSOD

  Hi, Problem description: When I try to create a virtual machine, the host bsod part way through the process. From the logs in lookes to fail/hang on the "Creating new VirtualDisckDriver with new VHD" step. The BSOD error code is SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION : STOP:0x0000003B When the machine has finished restarting, it looks to have created the vhd and XML files for the vm but it isn't accessable. I have two server bothing behaving in exactly the same way, so I don't believe it's a hardware fault. Has anyone had a similar experince? How did you resolve the problem? • Exchange Server 2007 Transport Errors -- SMTP Session Hangs

  Hello, I was doing some changes to the server (writing an Transport Agent). After trying to install it, I started to get some errors. Now, when connecting to the SMTP server the session hangs just after finishing the DATA section. I'm not sure what happened, I disabled my transport agent and uninstalled it, then restarted the server. The problem persists.
