• PCI compliance: using SSL as transport layer for RDP (Terminal Service)

  My client failed her PCI compliance audit. The server supports Remote Desktop (Terminal Service) but only provides encryption and not authentication. This exposes the server to Man-In-The-Middle attacks. The supposed solution is to force SSL as the transport layer for RDP. Anyone know how to do this? The server runs Windows 2003.

  Hi, We're running Server and Exchange 2003 here. There's a shared calendar which HR keep up-to-date detailing staff who are on leave. I'm looking for a VB Script (or alternate) which will extract the "appointment" titles of each item for the current day and then email the detail to a mail group, in doing so notifying the group with regard to which staff are on leave for the day. The resulting email body should be: Staff on leave today: Mike Davis James Stead Any ideas?

• Should I use Windows deployment server to deploy Windows 7?

  Hi all, I've installed the Windows Deployment Server role on to Windows 2008 R2, I've found the Windows PE .wim file from the Windows 7 AIK and added it to my deployment server. On a client I can now do a network boot and have the Windows PE image load, now on my previous Windows 2003 Deployment Server I'd type WDSCapture and upload the Windows client to the server but WDSCapture is no longer present. Am I missing something? Should I be using Windows Deployment Server for Windows 7? Many thanks Scott

  On windows server 2003 there was an option to allow a resource to interact with the desktop, this allowed you to run computer management mmc snap-in on the virtual name of the cluster, allowing you to manage permissions of the private message queues on the cluster. Windows Server 2008 failover clustering has removed that checkbox, so applications can no longer interact with the desktop. My question is then how does one go about managing private queue permissions on the clustered (the virtual name) server?

I can copy paste the filtered results to another sheet and save from there but I'd rather not. It's Excel 2003 primarily.

  I've been trying to configure my freeradius server on Linux to authenticate users from an existing Active Directory (windows server 2003) and i've already done that. Now i need to assign VLANs to those users and i dont know how to :(. The logical procedure should be with an AD attribute but i haven't found which one nor how to read it from the AD to use it on the freeradius server...   I've noticed a bug with RDP 6.1.7600. When I try to remote control another user on our Windows Server 2003 machine, I get an error that says "because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected" and my RDP session is logged out. The error only happens when I try to control a Neoware Thin Clients. Is it because the RDP protocol versions are different?

  We currently use AR Soft RAM Disk on some Windows 2003 servers for storing short lived temporary files. Looking forward to a move to 64-bit Windows Server 2008 I'm wondering what options there are for a RAM disk since it appears AR Soft RAM Disk was discontinued in 2005. I'm not looking for any physical disk backing, just a pure RAM disk that appears like a normal drive to Windows. Does anyone have any experience with RAM disks on Windows Server 2008, especially for 64-bit?

I have discovered that our copiers and fax machines are currently configured to use WINS to find their servers, so I'm in the process of configuring them to use DNS instead. How can I find out what else is actively using WINS? What procedure should I follow to decommission WINS from my network?

  I am trying to connect to mysql server which is installed on my home pc from another pc. I allowed all connection in mysql configuration. There's no firewall blocking on the pc I am trying to connect from. I used the command- mysql -h Some.Host.IP -u SomeUser -p SomePassword I am getting- ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'Some.Host.IP' (10060) I can connect through php!! What's the problem? How do I solve it?

(64K, 128K etc) RAID controller options: "adaptive read ahead, write-back" on PERC 6i 90% VMs on server are Windows (2008, 2003, Vista etc, SQL 2005 etc) i have read that smaller stipes are good for writes and larger for reads. Since this is virtual env, not sure whats good.
