• Spacebar on Samsung Series 7 Chronos Not Working

  The spacebar on my Series 7 Chronos does not register half the time. I'll be typing along and my words end up lookinglikethis. After further investigation, I noticed the spacebar does not response when pressed at the edges. Basically, the areas under the "C" key and the "M" key do not respond to a press It's weird, the bar physically "clicks" down (like it should), but does not register. No matter how hard I press, It won't register in that area. I noticed some complaints online about a 'sticky' or 'loose' spacebar, but they didn't mention it not registering. We took it back to the store we bought it at and they noticed the same problem on the floor model. Does anyone know how to fix this?

• Very small computer for note-taking, with full-size keyboard

  I am looking for a very small, lightweight computer with a full-size keyboard for taking text notes. Ideally it would be 500g or less including batteries for 16 hours of use. And writing text is the only use - a typewriter, if I could find one light enough, would be just fine. [I realize this is not the place for product recommendations, and that's not what I'm looking for. Rather, I have no experience in this space, so what I'd like is to understand what kinds of equipment are available and what are the right keywords to plug into Google/eBay/etc. In other words, help me learn enough to do a worthwhile search.]

• Apache2: How do I restrict access to a directory, but allow access to one file within it?

  I've inherited a poorly designed web app, which has a certain file that needs to be publicly accessible, but that file is inside a directory which should not. In other words, I need a way to block all files and sub-directories within a directory, but over-ride it for a single file. I'm trying this: # No one needs to access this directly <Directory /var/www/DangerousDirectory/> Order Deny,allow Deny from all # But this file is OK: <Files /var/www/DangerousDirectory/SafeFile.html> Allow from all </Files> </Directory> But it's not working- it just blocks everything including the file I want to allow. Any suggestions?

• Reverse Proxy Server SSL?

  Context We currently have an Apache web server in the DMZ set up as a reverse proxy and load balancer for two machines running Windows Server 2008 (IIS) inside. The Apache server has a genuine SSL certificate and serves up both http and https, however, the balancer members in the load balancing section are set to: BalancerMember {https://server1} and {https://server2}. The IIS web servers have self-signed certificates in order to respond to the https requests. My question: Do we need to forward any requests from Apache (in the DMZ) to the inside using SSL? e.g can the reverse proxy forward the requests using HTTP? and if so, why would I choose to forward them with SSL? (how secure is the http line between the dmz and the inside); In other words, can I totally disable SSL on my inside web servers?

  I am new to virtualization. I am running on ubuntu. I have a set of linux machines (5 to 6 machines). Which I want to combine as a single resource pool and on demand create multiple virtual instances of machines out of it. This is comparable to what VirtualBox does in a single system. Indeed i develop a program (some words and two buttons), and configure this program started when lock/logoff/shutdown in group policy, here is the question: how can i prevent my windows 7 shutdown/logoff/lock? it means i click the button "yes, i want" my pc still running and chrome or something showed up, if i click the button "no, thanks", my pc will shutdown/logoff/lock. please help, thx! i am looking forward to you. ps: i am not good in english, hope you understand. thx again!

• Default profile for large

  Hi I am setting up a master image to clone to all same machine type Windows 7 client, I login as administrastor and installed all the programs and changed the desktop settings etc, but my local administrator profile is 244megs in size, which will become the default profile of the local machine when sysprep, we have a 2003 server that I want to use mandatory profile for all login users which means I need to copy this profile to the server so when any users login to the domain they are using this profile, loading a 244megs profile is going to be very slow since it will be removed from the client when they logoff. So next time they login it will take a long time again. Is there anything I can do, can I just copy just the bare minimum files from the default profile to the server, as I am not sure what parts I need, I read that I must copy my documents, my documents/pictures so the folder redirection will work. What else do I need to copy to the server? I have firefox xmark sync also and MS words etc. THanks

  I have two windows open on the same machine (Ubuntu 9, ia32, server). I'll call these windows W1 and W2. W1: $ cd ~/test $ ls sample $ In W2 I run "make" from a parent directory that recreates file test/sample: $ make project . . $ cd test $ ls sample $ Now, returning to W1: $ ls $ cd ../test $ ls sample $ In other words, after I build from another window and the file test/sample is replaced, ls shows the file as missing in the 2nd window until I cd ../test back into the directory whereupon it reappears. I can give more details if required, but just wondering if this is a well-known behavior.

I have a pattern as follows: http:\/\/\(\w\+\.\?\)\+ [matches http://(AS MANY WORDS FOLLOWED BY DOT OR NOT ENCOUNTERS) e.g. http://wd1.wd2.com] I have a text as follows: http://wd1.wd2.com/wd3 I am trying to make this substitution on it: s/\(http:\/\/\)\(\w\+\.\?\)\+/\1wd4.wd5.com and the result is http://wd4.wd5.com /wd3 (Notice the white space inserted at the end of the replacement) How can I avoid having this inserted space? I am afraid is a bug in the regexp engine but I am not sure.

• Copy/Pasting data from SQL Server to Excel splits up text into multiple columns?

  I've got a problem pasting data from the result grid of SQL Server 2005 to an excel 2007 spreadsheet. I have a query in SQL Server that returns 2 columns (a number column and a text column) On one computer here i can happily copy (right-click copy) and then just right-click and paste into an excel spreadsheet. no problem. On another computer here when i try and paste into excel it splits the text column up and pastes the text into multiple columns based on spaces between words. For example if one of the rows has... Paste me please ...in it then when pasting into excel it splits the text and pastes each work into a seperate column within excel. We've tried comparing options in both SQL Server & excel with the computer it works fine on but can see no differences. Any ideas welcome Thanks

• How is the MAC address on a computer determined?

  While imaging some computers today, I started to wonder... what if two LAN MAC addresses on two different computers matched?... That would cause some problems. I later came to understand that the MAC address' 48-bit address space contains potentially 248 or 281,474,976,710,656 possible MAC addresses. [ in other-words, a lot of networking devices ] How are these MAC addresses determined? Will we ever run out of them? ( I know the second question is speculation, but there are a lot of devices that require a mac addresses...) Do MAC addresses get recycled?

• Wifi in android-x86 with virtual box [closed]

  I am trying to run android-x86 in Virtualbox, I am using a laptop which connects to internet via WiFi. When the android starts in virtual box, it does not recognize the host wireless connection or in other words does not identify the wireless network at all. So I got a TP-Link wireless USB adapter connected to the laptop and configured wireless controller in USB for the VM. But sadly I found that the wireless is disabled as soon as the Android VM starts. I am stuck on how to let android running in Virtualbox identify my Wifi. Any guidelines or set up instructions would be greatly helpful.

• Firefox 11.0 Right-Click Dropdown Menu (and Menu Options at Window Top) Flickering - Potential Bug?

  About a week ago my Windows 7 machine starting exhibiting odd Firefox behavior. When I right click on something the drop-down menu flickers and when the mouse is hovering over a field, I can't really see it. This same behavior happens in other ways too, like in the top File, Edit , View, etc menus. I click them and they flicker, when I hover over them, and then they get obscured when I hover over the one I want. I did some research and didn't really find anything. Some people found similar behavior in applications THEY were building. But mine is a global problem. Happens on all sites, as far as I can tell. This is why I suspect it's my Firefox installation. I thought about reinstalling, but if there was another option, I'd like to explore that too. The behavior is not really capture-able, so I don't have anything except words to describe it. • Macbook not connecting to WIFI

  I have been having this problem all week. My Macbook aluminium can't see my wifi network. I have changed the channel to one that isn't being used by neighbours and my iphone picks it up straight away. In other words, the router is fine. It's just the macbook can't see it. This is driving me nuts if anyone can help... My airport card details... I guess the highest 0x18000000 bytes of the second memory module are mapped above the 4 GiB mark. But even then, there are two problems: 128 MiB (0x08000000 bytes, living somewhere between 0xE0000000 and 0xFFFFFFFF) are still completely unaccounted for. To note, my graphics card is on PCI-Express and (allegedly) has 1 GiB dedicated memory, so that shouldn't be the culprit. Did the BIOS screw up in moving the memory, leaving it partially shadowed by MMIO? Even with this mediocre explanation, I only 'found' 128 MiB. But /proc/meminfo is reporting a much larger deficit; where's the other 146 MiB? How does Linux count MemTotal?

• Can't create system image. 0x80780119 error after upgrade from 8 to 8.1

  I have upgraded my Windows 8 PC to 8.1 yesterday and it seemed like everything is working fine until I tried to create System Image. I got an error 0x80780119 saying that there is to little space on one of the partitions. I started looking into this problem and indeed one of the partitions does not meet the requirements. There are following partitions on my drive: DISKPART> list partition Partition ### Type Size Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Recovery 300 MB 1024 KB Partition 2 System 100 MB 301 MB Partition 3 Reserved 128 MB 401 MB Partition 4 Primary 74 GB 529 MB Partition 5 Primary 390 GB 75 GB Partition 1 has only 13MB free space. Partition 2 has 70MB free space, partition 3 is MSFTRES, partition 4 is my C drive with around 35GB free and partition 5 is not included in system image. Partitions were create like this during installation of Windows 8 - clean install from scratch. I am using UEFI so the drive is GPT formatted. So I thought, OK I can resize my C drive a little, move the partitions and expand the 1st one. I tried using GParted but it is not able to move the MSFTRES partition. It does not recognize the file system on it. So the question is: Is it possible to "clean up" the 1st partition in anyway? If not, is there anything special about MSFTRES partition? Or can I just remove it and create it a little further and just flag it as msftres with GParted?

• When Typing on my mac the cursor moves/deletes/replaces text.

  Help! I don't know what is happening, with my computer (Macbook Black OSX 1ha0.6.6) but recently whenever I am typing my cursor suddenly moves in the middle of my frase or paragraph, deleting text, replacing words or just closing applications. I don't know what might be the cause but it's driving me crazy. I have disabled typinator (which had worked fine for a couple of months) and looked through the keybindings in SystemPreferencesKeyboardKeyboard Shortcuts. But for have not been able to find any answers. It happens in all apps that require typing. Textmate, Chrome, FIrefox, Texedit, Mail. Does anybody know if there is a way I can review all keyboard shortcuts, to see if the issue lies there or any suggestions? Thanking you dearly Dave

• Windows XP VM on VMWare ESXi 4.1 "pausing" / blocked occasionally

  We have an issue with Windows XP SP3 VMs on VMWare ESXi 4.1.0 (the free version): They sometimes seem to "pause" for several minutes. This happens rarely (maybe once a month per VM, at least noticed only that often), but still is an issue for us. It happens for three different but similar VMs on three pretty different hosts (different hardware). I have the feeling that the "pausing" is not actually the CPU blocking, but probably the harddisks, but not 100% sure. The servers have one IDE disk (C:) and one SCSI (D:) and it might be either of the two. I have seen scheduled tasks simply not starting for up to 9 minutes and then running normally again with normal speed. They were totally blocked. This is not a load issue, the VMWare hosts have average load and the VMs in question already have reserved CPU resources plus high priorities for CPU and disk. The Windows boxes run mainly MySQL, Tomcat, FileZilla server, Cygwin stuff, Java + R applications, VMWare client, Elusiva Terminal Server pro, Nagios client. Not sure if this might be related with any of that software (e.g. Elusiva). Trying to debug this, there was nothing visible in Windows Event log, other logs in C:\Windows, VMWare events etc. Unfortunately the vmware.log file ends with "Log throttled". We found that we ran into 2 VMWare bugs there: The VMWare client writes lots on bogus messages in the vmware.log, which we now disabled (log level error setting) plus the bug that VMWare does not unthrottle the log (at least so far despite VM reboots). I know there is not much guidance and that may also be the reason why I so far didn't find anything related on the web or on ServerFault, but maybe some of this rings a bell with someone? Or please direct me to what more info to post. I hope that the vmware.logs get unthrottled eventually (can't easily restart the hosts at the moment). Thanks for any input!

• Using Redirect for an SSL CDN to have a Custom Domain

  We're looking to move our website/app assets to a CDN. The problem is, our CDN doesn't offer custom domain names with SSL. In other words, for SSL they offer https://1234.cdn.hostingcompany.com but not https://assets.mysite.com. So this seems like a huge problem since I don't want to re-publish my app with their domain hard coded. So I read somewhere about a method where you send people to https://assets.mysite.com then redirect to https://1234.cdn.hostingcompany.com. Is there merit to that solution or would that completely defeat the purpose of the CDN.

• Very high CPU and low RAM usage - is it possible to place some of swap some of the CPU usage to the RAM (with CloudLinux LVE Manager installed)?

  I had to install CloudLinux so that I could somewhat controle the CPU ussage and more importantly the Concurrent-Connections the Websites use. But as you can see the Server load is way to high and thats why some sites take up to 10 sec. to load! Server load 22.46 (8 CPUs) (!) Memory Used 36.32% (2,959,188 of 8,146,632) (ok) Swap Used 0.01% (132 of 2,104,504) (ok) Server: 8 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E31230 @ 3.20GHz Memory: 8143680k/9437184k available (2621k kernel code, 234872k reserved, 1403k data, 244k init) Linux Yesterday: Total of 214,514 Page-views (Awstat) Now my question: Can I shift some of the CPU usage to the RAM? • VMWare Player 5.0 Upgrade - Bridged Networking No Longer Works

  I've been using VMWare Player 4 on my Windows 7 PC, running my VMs under a bridged networking configuration without any problem. I settled on bridged networking two reasons... I often use VMs to host web applications for test purposes. I never could get NAT to work for me anyway, but no love lost, considering reason #1. Now that I've upgraded to VMWare Player 5, the situation has completely reversed. In other words, bridged networking no longer works at all, and NAT does. Has anyone else come across this? Any ideas on getting bridged networking to work again? This happens with both Windows and Linux guest OSes. VMWare Tools has been fully updated. I've tried the usual vmnetcfg.exe utility fix, to no avail.
