    I have setup my VPS pretty much now, and want to upload some basic files to the server. How is this done in Ubuntu 9.10? I have PuTTY and use the terminal there... Is there any ftp program, like in regular managed hostings, to just upload files with? I was thinking about proftpd, but don't have a clue how to get it to work. I am using my home-laptop with windows xp to command the VPS. Thanks

    I am trying to kill Xcode by running killall Xcode.app, which works normally when I run it through terminal. However, if I put it into a bash script that I keep on my Desktop called re_xcode, the script will output the following error. Please can you tell me where I am going wrong?   • "Abort" message on linux shell

    hello i compile & run a C program in linux terminal (using gcc). the program recieves as an argument a text file, parses it and outputs to screen and/or another text file. for some reason. in some cases, when i run the program, i get "Abort" message on the shell, and i can't figure out why. does anyone have an idea why this happens? thanks

    RemoteApp sessions lock if idle for 10 minutes, user needs to input password to unlock. My users are running an application from Win2008 Terminal server using RemoteApp. If the application remains idle for 10 minutes it gets "locked" and the user is required to enter username and password to continue using it. This is VERY VERY annoying as the app usually sits idle for bout 20-30 minutes, used for 1 min... repeat.

    I'm looking for an easy method to run N selected processes at the same time with one command. It should put all the output on my terminal and shut down all of them when I exit with ctrl+c. Is there any existing app that does this? I'm thinking of some thing like exec_many 10 foo - it should keep 10 foos running and respawn any that dies.

    I installed Keepass 1.16 in my thumbdrive, which reportedly works with wine (as per Keepass homepage), but after entering the master password it just hangs and shows the "The program keepass has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" screen. I got this error msg among the stack trace on the terminal: wine: Call from 0x7b844633 to unimplemented function bcrypt.dll.BCryptOpenAlgorithmProvider, aborting On windows, everything runs fine. I'm using wine-1.1.27 on ubuntu 9.04 Any thoughts?

Running the script from the terminal works (although I had to change its permissions first), but clicking on a mailto: link does nothing. Note: I am using the Chromium Daily Builds for my browser. I would mailto: links in all applications to point to gmail, not just the ones that I click on in my browser.

    I was messing around with sendmail in Rails a year ago and have had this message popping up in the terminal after every command ever since: You have new mail in /var/mail/Lance How do I properly get rid of that so the message goes away? I ever use any of that functionality and don't have mail on my computer. There's one file in /var/mail called lance, and it's huge. Can I just remove it?

    I had migrated from a Xenon Mac Pro to a late 2012 Mac mini, using Migration Assistant. Now, the Mac mini won't recognize PHP. I can't even open my user folder, through terminal neither.     I use the SUN Presenter Openoffice Extension with a twinview Ubuntu laptop. it works well : I have the video-projector with my presentation and my laptop screen with the slides (and time...). My problem is when I want to present a mono-screen application, like Firefox, gnome-terminal. It is displayed only on one monitor, which is not really efficient if you want to be interactive. Is there a way to display these types of application on both display and to interact with both ? Thanks
