• Consuming a USB HID device in Windows CE 6.0 using c#

  I am working on an Embedded Windows CE project and am interested in accessing a USB HID device through one of its USB Host ports. All I really need to read are the raw HID spec packets. On a windows computer, I have a working program using hid.dll, but as far as I have researched, there is no equivalent on CE. I know there is the usbhid.dll, but I'm not sure if it is applicable for this situation. I would prefer not to write a kernel level driver, as I would like to do my coding in c#. Has anyone had experience consuming an HID device on Windows CE?

  I'm setting up a registration form and use the jquery validation script. There are two email address input textboxes. Email 1 must match Email 2. • Is there a Java API for creating a XHTML document?

  I want to provide a simple XHTML representation of each of the resources in a REST web service. At the moment i'm using a StringBuilder to generate these which is both tedious and error prone. I don't see these changing after I publish the service but the process of coding each is a bit painful. Is there a XHTML document writer api? Should I just use an XML writer? Which one? Should I just roll my own basic HTML document class - doctype is the same each time, i just need to set the title, metatags and body content, most of which (but not all content) is already in HTML for the GETs. Or should I just use StringBuilder and stop whining? ;) Thanks.

• spamassassin setup how to make sure X-Spam-Status is allways written.

  Hi, I just found out that spamassassin skips checking for email bigger than 250KB by default. Due to a coding bug, I check for the X-Spam-Status header in incoming emails and did not take into account the fact that it might be null. I know that I can increase the size of the limit by configuration but it may cause a load issue on my server. Since I do not want to redeploy my application at this time I was wondering if there is a way to make sure this header exists automatically in every email, either by spamassassin configuration or by postfix or something else. • Javascript Getting a string into kb format

  I am new to javascript and I just wanted to convert a string into a format that a person like me can read. Here is an example of what I am trying to do... string2size(string){ //some awesome coding I have no clue how to make return awesomeAnswer } now the return should give me something like 56 bytes or 12kb or 1mb depending how much the string is. so if the string is... string = "there was an old woman who lived in a shoe"; then string2size(string) should return something like 3kb. Now I know there has been a utf8 talk and I wouldn't object to and addition of that to the function. I have tried google and Yahoo searches but they talk of using php but I really need it for javascript. I do thank anyone for their time. -Teske

• resolving localhost in php so can be views outside VM

  I'm running Windows 7. Within, I'm running Virtualbox and Ubuntu. Within Ubuntu, I'm running Apache and using PHP codeigniter. To reference our CSS and JS files, we use this syntax: <?php echo site_url('css/styles.css'); ?> When viewing the site locally (within Ubuntu VM) that resolves to: http://localhost/styles.css So works fine. The catch is when I access that site from within Windows 7 (for IE testing). To access the site in Windows 7, I refer to the IP address of the VM: http://xx.x.x.x/ That loads the site but, alas, all the site_url variables are still being rewritten as 'localhost'. Said files obviously don't exist on the localhost of my windows 7. Is there a way around this short of just hard-coding relative links in my PHP file?

  Today, I found myself coding something like this ... public class LocalEnums { public LocalEnums() { } public void foo() { enum LocalEnum { A,B,C }; // .... // class LocalClass { } } } and I was kind of surprised when the compiler reported an error on the local enum: The member enum LocalEnum cannot be local Why can't enums be declared local like classes? I found this very useful in certain situations. In the case I was working, the rest of the code didn't need to know anything about the enum. Is there any structural/design conflict that explains why this is not possible or could this be a future feature of Java?

  I recently came across a query that implements a join using just the "JOIN" keyword. On researching I saw that when using a join in SQL without specifying INNER or OUTER, the default is an INNER JOIN. I've never come across this syntax before; all the SQL I've written/read/worked with specifies INNER or some sort of OUTER (LEFT, RIGHT, FULL...). Is there any reason not to rely on the default? Is the plain JOIN widely used? What are the coding standards regarding JOIN vs. INNER JOIN?

  Whenever I tried to search about differences between classes and structs in C# or .net, I ended up with the conceptual overview of the two things like value type or the reference type, where the variables are allocated etc. But I need some practical differences. I have found some like different behavior of assignment operator, having constructors etc. Can anybody provide some more practical differences which will be directly useful while coding? Like the things works with one but not with other or same operation showing different behavior. And some common mistakes regarding these two. Also please suggest where to consider using a struct instead of a class. And where the structs should not be used.

C# 3.0 doesn't just stop there." Should we increasingly use them instead of loops? And should be having loops(instead of those three building blocks of data manipulation) be one of the metrics for coding horrors on code reviews? And why? [NOTE] I'm not advocating fully functional programming on those codes that could be simply translated to loops(e.g. tail recursions) Asking for politer term. • AS3 TextField - unwanted carriage return when setting value to ""

  I have an input TextField and have a KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN even listener on the stage to listen for the Keyboard.ENTER event. The event listener adds the entered text to an array or whatever, and then clears the TextField. The problem is that when the Enter key event fires and the TextField value is set to "", it leaves a carriage return in the TextField and the cursor positioned on the second line. WTF? I've been coding AS2 and AS3 for a LONG time and have never ran into this before. Am I losing my mind? • Any good books out there for advanced concepts like lambdas, delegates, events etc?

  I've read about these features but I don't think I've seen enough to consistently apply them in my coding, eg "This would be better done with a delegate than with my other, outdated approach". I know what they do, but I want more examples of use cases, or want some heuristic to help me think in terms of such features. All the books I've seen either focus only on the basics or just mention the features as part of the language. Is there any book out there that deals with this? Preferably C# or language agnostic.

I was wondering how I could check multiple groups to see if the user belongs to either, if they belong to either. I don't know if user_ingroup($username,$group,$recursive=NULL); can handle search two different groups for the user, need help coding it to search for the user in two different groups, and as soon as it finds it in one of those, break the operation and set a variable to true. Any help is appreciated.

  Do we have to explicitly manage database resources when using Spring Framework.. liking closing all open connections etc? I have read that Spring relieves developer from such boiler plate coding... This is to answer an error that I am getting in a Spring web app: org.springframework.jdbc.CannotGetJdbcConnectionException: Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00020: maximum number of processes (150) exceeded The jdbcTemplate is configured in the xml file and the DAO implementation has reference to this jdbcTemplate bean which is used to query the database.

• What next in the career map for a Lead QA Engineer

  I am a Lead QA Engineer in a Software company and at a stage in my career wherein i need to plan my next move. Option 1: The very obvious move would be to stay as a QA Lead and eventually become a QA Manager. But i don't see very good prospects/future after that. Or am i wrong? Option 2: I love programming/coding, though i haven't spent a whole lot of time on that. So a direct move to becoming a Software Developer is not possible. Will moving to Test Automation eventually lead me to development. Even so, am i looking at step-down in pay and career-level. Option 3: Moving to Product Management. • TypeInitilazationException When Getting an NHibernate Session

  I’ve run into what appears to be an NHibernate config problem. Basically, I ran up a simple proof of concept persistence integration test using NUnit, the test simply querys an Oracle database and successfully returns the last record received by the underlying table. However, when the assemblies are taken out of the NUnit test environment and deployed as they would be for an actual application build, my call for an NHibernate session results in a ‘TypeInitializationException’ whilst executing the code line: sessionFactory = New Configuration().Configure().BuildSessionFactory() The application is a vb.net console app running against an Oracle 9.2 database, using a ‘coding framework’ published on the web by Bill McCafferty entitled 'NHibernate Best Practices with ASP.NET' (pre S#harp Architecture).   How to use paint() such that when repaint() is called the previously drawn object should not get deleted when drawing the new object. That is the drawing area must get UPDATED only and not REDRAWN. • [Iphone] - Problem in saving file using NSCoding

  Hi everybody, I've a problem with Iphone programming... I've a NSMutableArray containing object of type "MyClass". MyClass has some parameters, like NSNumber and NSString. I've followed the Apple Tutorial about coding and decoding object using NSCoding, but when I try to decode the file I've stored, the NSMutableArray contain object of type "MyClass", but with wrong parameters. I think i've done all I've to do (including protocol, including methods like initwithencode etc), but it's still not working... Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! And sorry for my English XD

• SharePoint Permissions

  I have a custom workflow. This workflow removes permissions to items when an item is added (example an item is added by a service account and once added those permissions need to be removed from that item). This works as I have the service account 'hard coded' in the custom workflow. Now I would like to remove this hard coding and when a item is added to a list I would like to iterate through all users that have access to the list item. If a user matches some algorithm then remove that user from the item permissions which will be 0 to many. The piece I'm stuggling with is how to iterage all users with permission to a SPListItem. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this? Thanks in advance!
