• Ubuntu web server 11.10 ftp/server issue

  I was wondering if I could get some help with FTP, atleast I'm pretty sure it has to do with FTP. Although it could have to do with something else, I'm not 100% sure.. Now, for fare warning, I'm no ubuntu dominator, I'm pretty newb. Anyway, I've attempted to build a webserver to to test php and what not for a site I'm building. Now everything works, the php, the sql etc. By the way, I built this in VMware, so it's virtual, over a network, so I can access stuff from anywhere. I'm in a college right now so yeah. The one problem I have is this. I go into the terminal, and do ifconfig to find my IP. I get it and go to a browser on a different machine and type that IP in. I get the "index of/" page, where I can browse the website I'm making. I can click through folders and what not. I can click on things and they open up. Now lets say I'm working on my desktop and open up an FTP and drag and drop something into there, go to the IP in the browser again and try to open it. I either get "Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://my_server_ip/phpinfo.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later." or "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /html.html on this server." But, lets say I make it on the server itself, and try, bam, magic it works. I'm sure I set the permissions to let everyone open and view the files, but maybe I didn't? I'm not sure, and this is where I was hoping I could get some help. By the way, I followed a tutorial on changing the www folder (apache) from /var/www to home/"user"/www. I can't recall how I did that, but it's there and my ftp goes to the home/"user"/www folder. But yeah, any and all help is appreciated. Like I said, I'm really new to this, but I do enjoy attempting to make these servers and learning how they work, so it's not like making this webserver is a project for a class, It's just assisting me in testing stuff for another class and possibly other websites later on down the road. • ssh through a bastion machine works on someone else's desktop but not my own

  I have to ssh into a bastion (jump) server in order to get to the final server. On the jump server, my .ssh/config says: Host * ForwardAgent yes My co-worker uses PuTTy and Pageant. When I use a putty shell to connect from his desktop to the final server as root via the jump server, it works fine. At my desk I cannot connect to the final server, only the jump server. However, if I go to his desk, and successfully log into the final server via the jump server, I can then go back to my desk and also do so.... but after a certain amount of time, my shells revert to the original behavior of not connecting to final server via jump server. • How can I: Convert Physical to VM, the machine it's running on

  I have virtualized laptops before, when someone gets a new one and doesn't want to quite let go of their old laptop for fear of losing something. This was using VMWare Workstation 7.X. In 8.0 when I go to "Convert a Physical Machine to a Virtual Machine", it asks for an IP address and doesn't give the option to virtualize the machine it's running on. How to I get VMWare to virtualize it's current system? I tried typing in Localhost, and 127.0.0.1 but that didn't do it.

• Certificate Template Missing from "Certificate Template to Issue"

  I'm having a problem similar to that posted in this question: Missing Certificate template From certificate to issue The short version is that I've created a duplicate certificate template and I'm trying to add it to my domain CA so that I can issue certificates with it. However, when I go into the Certification Authority MMC and go to "Certificate Templates - New - Certificate Template To Issue", my template is missing (along with quite a number of other templates that are present in the domain). Unlike the previous question, however, my CA is running on Server 2008 R2 Enterprise. Our organization has a single DC and a single CA, so I'm not seeing where there could be propagation delay. Any ideas how to get my template to show so that I can issue certificates?

  Suppose I have the following configuration: Router A: WAN port connected to the Internet, LAN = 192.168.1.0/24 Computer A: Connected to router A as 192.168.1.101 Router B: WAN port connected to router A as 192.168.1.102, LAN = 192.168.2.0/24 Computer B: Connected to router B as 192.168.2.101 Now I want computer A to communicate with computer B seamlessly (e.g. can establish a TCP connection by running nc 192.168.2.101 <port>) by means of routing, rather than merging the two networks into one (which can be easily accomplished using router B as a switch). Most routers are shipped with NAT turned on, of which I definitely need to turn off in router B. But what other steps do I need to take so that packets from computer A to computer B would go through router B? I could manually add a routing table entry in computer A so that all packets targeted to 192.168.2.0/24 go through gateway 192.168.1.102, but I would prefer an automatic way if it exist.

• Exchange Transport Service Started but not working

  Good day, Here is the problem : We are hosting a Microsoft Exchange Server. Everything working fine until recently, where the mail transport seems to go wrong. We almost have to restart the service every morning. The thing is that the transport service is started, but the mail are not delivered to the users and senders to our server get a delayed delivery notification. When we restart the service, all the mail is then delivered to the users and we're good to go for a day or two. Things I've noticed : The store service is growing to around 6 Gb of used RAM, and the w3wp.exe service is hanging around 700mb RAM. Is there a way to schedule a restart of the transport role every 4 hours or something while I'm solving the issue so I don't have to worry when I leave for the week-end? And most of all...does anyone have any idea on how to solve this issue? Thanks, Philippe

• Windows Live Family Safety Service keeps closing Start Menu

  Got my kids a new Toshiba Laptop for Christmas. I was setting it all up for them so it would be ready to go. Tonight I installed Windows Live Family Safety Parental Controls. In the process of testing I discovered that on all the accounts the Start Menu closes automatically within 3 seconds (or less) of opening. It seems that it happens every 3 seconds, so sometimes it is immediate, and if I open it again then it will stay open for a full 3 seconds. This of course is rather annoying, and I need to wrap it up so it is ready to go under the tree. I disabled the Windows Live Family Safety Service, and that fixed it. Enable it again and the behavior returns. Is this a feature of the service? Can I disable that feature and keep the other features?

• Headset - No audio devices are installed

  I've been having problems with my headset and I just cannot seem to figure it how to fix it. When I plug the microphone and headphone jacks into the computer I can hear sound fine. However the microphone does not get recognized. If I go into Sound Recording, it showed the microphone and it said that it was working but nothing was getting picked up. I uninstalled the audio devices and let windows reinstall them but now when I go into Sound Recording, it states "No audio devices are installed" Before I uninstalled the audio driver I made sure to try every combination of audio devices I could - none worked... If you know what I should try next, please let me know. I am getting frustrated. Running windows 7 64 bit

• SQL CLR not properly enabling

  We have a SQL server running SQL 2005 Workgroup 64 bit (9.0.4273), on Windows 2003 server 64 bit. We have run sp_configure and reconfigured the server which indicates that the clr is now enabled. exec sp_configure 'clr enabled', '1' go reconfigure go However, when trying to call CREATE ASSEMBLY the server completely dies on us and we have to do a full reboot of the machine. A little more diagnostic information, even though clr enabled is set to 1 and we have rebooted the full server, running the following statement select * from sys.dm_clr_properties returns directory version state locked CLR version with mscoree which is what it says when the CLR is not enabled on another machine. On a correctly enabled machine (after reboot) this function reads directory C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\ version v2.0.50727 state CLR is initialized

• How to get rid of Google's language detection permanently?

  Using Chrome 15 on Windows (all tho' I've learned it doesn't matter what browser you use), when using a Google product it automatically either translates or redirects to my native language. If I go google.com, I excpect to get the English version of it - that does not happen, instead I have to click on the bottom of the page on the link "Go to Google MyLanguage" and it still does the same thing after closing and opening the browser. Hence my question, how to disable (get rid of, for good) Google's language detection? Maybe there's a work-around?

• pfSense command to delete stale SAD

  I'm experiencing an issue with pfSense where duplicate SAD's are getting created after rekeying, forcing me to manually go ahead and delete the old SAD's. It's not a huge issue but it does get to be a problem once I let it go for a few days. I just installed the cron package for pfSense so I could run a script to identify stale SAD's and delete them but I am not that familiar with BSD or pfSense. Is there a command that enumerates SAD's and their properties, and another that can delete by ID? I can form the conditional parts of the script but I do not know the commands to run. I would imagine it would be something like: Enumerate SAD's Identify Duplicate ones by matching Source and destination IP's Find the one with the larger bytes transferred Delete

• How to merge-copy multiple folders in Outlook?

  In MS Outlook, I need to be able to incrementally copy items in multiple folders in the Exchange account to a local PST file with a mirrored folder structure. I need the items in each folder to be combined into the destination. For example, let's say on the server account I have a folder tree like this: Inbox SortedEmails1 SortedEmails2 SortedEmails3 I also have these same four folders in the local PST file, which I want to keep growing as I incrementally pull more messages from the Exchange server. Messages from "Inbox" should go to the local "Inbox", messages from "SortedEmails1" should go into "SortedEmails1" in the local PST, etc. I'd like to avoid manually iterating into every single folder and copying items. How can I do this?

• CentOS running inside VMware as WebServer times out on outside connection

  I have a CentOS machine running inside VMware, and I have got PHP and Apache set up on it, so if I open a browser (on the VM) and go to either localhost, or 192.168.0.3, I get a phpinfo page I made in /var/www/html/index.php, but, if on the host (Windows 7), in my browser I go to 192.168.0.3, it times out. I can ping the IP address from Windows and get a response, I just can't through the browser. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this working? This is my first time using a VM and I'm getting lost in the network settings.

I can log into iSeries Navigator, navigate to schema functions permissions and change the permission for public from Exclude to All. bam it works. How do I grant permission to all, either in the CREATE FUNCTION or after?

• how to i lock a Harddrive to a certain drive letter

  i have an external hard drive that i have set to Drive F which on it contains some programs that i have shortcuts on the desktop how i have a second external hard drive which i store my music on which is auto assigned to Drive E, due to someone thinking that Australians love to have f** wings on power plugs for hard drives while power boards have each socket close together i can have both of these hard drives set at the same time my music hard drive i normally only plug up when i sync music to my ipod but on occasion when i unplug my music hard drive and plug my old one back in or at times when i turn on my computer with the music hard drive in, turn off my computer and turn it back on with my old hard drive it's drive letter gets switched to E i get annoyed having to always go into disk management and change the drive letter back to F when this happens so i am wondering if I can lock my hard drive to always be F, if anything else tries to be F it can fail for all i care If there is a batch file i can use that'll go though all the steps of Disk Management to change a drive's letter, that way i can set it up in the startup folder

• Can't connect to database in dreamweaver

  I used to have this error in Dreamweaver CS6 and I would simply place the _mmServerScripts folder into the root of my local website. Every time I go to select a database it get this error: I have been searching the net for at least 2 hours now trying to find a solution. It is becoming quite annoying. Everything is working perfectly fine. All the server settings are 100% correct. I have seen various videos on youtube where the user is using a mac and they simply go and grab the _mmServerScripts folder from their dreamweaver folder but I can't seem to locate this. I used to simply use _mmServerScripts folder from dreamweaver CS5.5 and it would end up working perfectly. I don't know how to fix the issue so does anybody have any idea?

• SQL Performance Problem IA64

  We’ve got a performance problem in production. QA and DEV environments are 2 instances on the same physical server: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2, 32 GB RAM, 1 Quad 3.5 GHz Intel Xeon X5270 (4 cores x64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives Prod: Windows 2003 Datacenter SP2, 64 GB RAM, 4 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Intel Family 80000002, Model 6 Itanium (8 cores IA64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives, Veritas Cluster I am seeing excessive Signal Wait Percentages ( 250%) and Page Reads /s (50) and Page Writes /s (25) are both high occasionally. I did test this query on both QA and PROD and it has the same execution plan and even the same stats: SELECT top 40000000 * INTO dbo.tmp_tbl FROM dbo.tbl GO Scan count 1, logical reads 429564, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. As you can see it’s just logical reads, however: QA: 0:48 Prod: 2:18 So It seems like a processor related issue, however I’m not sure where to go next, any ideas? Thanks, Aaron

• Snippets between desktop and laptop

  The Situation: At work, I have a nice beefy desktop running Windows Server 2008 R2 (SharePoint dev machine). My handy ThinkPad is right next to it. Every once in a while I'd like to cut and paste or share something (usually text) between the machines: for example, I might be headed out and I'd like to take send the URL I'm reading from the desktop to the laptop. Of course I can create a share or use the Admin shares and create files to get stuff back and forth, but that seems heavyweight for what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking more along the lines of sending myself an IM. How do you get little things from machine to machine? Keep a shared folder pinned to the taskbar? Send an email to yourself? Bookmark sync? While on it, I'm looking for a decent multiple clipboard handler: maybe these two functions are combined in some nice little utility? I suspect I'm missing something simple here... Thanks...   When I go to localhost/~admin/ or 127.0.0.1/~admin/ my browser says: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /~admin/ on this server." How do I change this?!??!?! It's driving me nuts! when I go to localhost or 127.0.0.1/ my browser says: "It Works!". I'm running mac osx 10.8. I created aliases in my .bash_profile file so that I can start, restart and stop Apache quickly: alias startApache="sudo apachectl start" alias stopApache="sudo apachectl stop" alias restartApache="sudo apachectl restart" In my /etc/apache2/httpd.conf file I turned on php5: LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so I also made sure to change the permissions for my admin.conf file with this command in terminal: sudo chmod 644 username.conf This is my /etc/apache2/users/admin.conf: <Directory "/Users/admin/Sites/"> Options Indexes MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory>

• Data transfer to my own computer from a website host by the same computer

  Hi all, I have a question about using a web site host in my computer, say Computer A, using any web server hosting application e.g : apache. I connect to my website in my very same computer A, and request to download a file of size 1Mb, in otherwords, I am connecting to my own computer and want to download a file in my computer. In addition, my internet access is bound by a proxy server in a way of gateway. The questions are - does the file transfer really exist? Or is it a local file copying between 2 location? Will my data packet go through the proxy, to the internet, and go back to the proxy and return to me? Thanks everyone who are watching this question.

• Exchange Disconnecting on EHLO with remote telnet

  When I go to the local terminal on my Exchange box (SBS 2008) I can do this: telnet 127.0.0.1 25 220 Exchange banner here EHLO example.com 250 Server name However when I go from another box, or from the actual IP of the server I get this: telnet 192.168.21.20 25 220 Exchange banner here EHLO example.com 421 4.4.1 Connection timed out Connection to host lost. The odd thing is, this server is currently in production and working fine (receiving mail for our entire domain). But my C# programs can't send mail to it (they get this same error). Any ideas?

• Windows Color Calibrator Does Not Retain Color Settings

  When I try to calibrate the monitor using Windows 7's color calibrator, the monitor rejects changes to the color settings. For example, one of my monitors has a blueish tinge. If I click my mouse to tone down the blue and then let go of my mouse the monitor will go back to being blueish. At the moment, I am getting around the problem by using the color controls in the monitor's on screen displays. How can I get the color calibrator to work? Update: I tried checking the color settings in the ATI Radeon Catalyst Control Center and noticed that I can't do anything. The "Reactivate ATI color controls" button keeps flashing and any changes I try to make are discarded instantly.

• Unable to connect to the Report Server

  Win/7 Professional SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Reporting Services Configuration Manager When I launch it, shows correct Server Name, but report server instance is blank. When I press FIND I get: "Unable to connect to the Report Server " This is my development workstation, so no IIS installed. Seems to work fine on XP. SSMS works fine - no issues. I tried uninstalling SQL Server completely, rebooting, reinstalling a fresh download. Same result. I've googled every article I can find - nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction in case you've come across this yourself? Thanks.
