  • Which jsPerf-test should I consider as standard for checking the performance of javascript template-engines

    - by bhargav
    I am on a search for a javascript template engine that has good performance when used in large js applications and is also very suitable for mobile applications. So I have gone through the various jsPerf-tests for these. There seems to be a lot which show different results and it is confusing to find out which is the standard test. Can some one guide me a standard jsPerf that I can refer to and that should also include following templates dust, underscore, hogan, mustache, handlebars. From what I have observed dot.js is a constant performer with good rendering speed, but is it mature enough for larger applications ? What is this "with" and "no with" that is shown in the jspref tests? Can some one explain. In all the tests I have seen popular templates like mustache, handlebars, dust, hogan,etc seems to be behind performance than other templates, so why people are using them leaving out the top performers,is it because of maturity of these template engines? Thanks in advance

  • Decent JavaScript IDE

    - by thatismatt
    What is a decent IDE for developing JavaScript, I'll be writing both client side stuff and writing for Rhino. Ideally It needs to run on Mac OSX, although something that runs on Windows too would be nice. ADDITIONAL: Having had a play with both js2 and Aptana, I think I'll be continuing to use Aptana. Mainly because I find emacs a bit hard to get my head round, although I did think that the error hi-lighting in js2 was better than that in Aptana. I'm still looking for a way to visually debug my js code that is running atop Rhino...

  • Arrays in JavaScript

    - by caramel1991
    While reading a book about JavaScript I stumbled across an example: var names = new Array("Paul","Catherine","Steve"); var ages = new Array(31,29,34); var concatArray; concatArray = names.concat(ages); My question is, why doesn't the variable concatArray need to be define as a new Array() in order to store the concatenated data for both arrays name and ages , but when I try to treat the concatArray as an array by adding another line of code "document.write(concatArray[0])", it works just like an array and shows me the data stored in the first element. I just wonder why I'm not declaring the concatArray as a new array, yet it still works as one.

  • RegEx/Javascript validation: Don't allow comma as a valid character

    - by baldwingrand
    I'm doing Javascript validation on my number fields. I'm using RegEx to do this - first time RegEx user. I need the user to only enter numbers and decimals, but not commas. (i.e. 3600.00 is okay, but 3,600.00 is not). I can't figure out how to eliminate the commas as an accepted character. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! var filter = /^([0-9])/; if (!filter.test(txtItemAmount.value)) { msg += "Item amount must be a number.\n"; txtItemAmount.focus }

  • JavaScript Array Problem

    - by JasonS
    Hi, This wasn't the question I was going to ask but I have unexpectedly run aground with JavaScript arrays. I come from a PHP background and after looking at a few websites I am none the wiser. I am trying to create a multi-dimensional array. var photos = new Array; var a = 0; $("#photos img").each(function(i) { photos[a]["url"] = this.src; photos[a]["caption"] = this.alt; photos[a]["background"] = this.css('background-color'); a++; }); Error message: photos[a] is undefined. How do I do this. Thanks.

  • Using javascript on an HTML table?

    - by Michael McKay
    Hi, few questions, just wondering if anyone can help? I have a table with 1 long row (1000 pixels) and one single column, how do i go about creating a method whereby when the mouse cursor is on the leftmost side of the cell, a variable, lets say X is set to 0, the further right the mouse cursor moves in the cell, the value of X increases. I know that sounds like a strange question but im working on a project where this type of functionality is desired. Is there a javascript method to create this feature? Thanks for any help.

  • How to solve JavaScript origin problem with an application and static file server

    - by recipriversexclusion
    In a system that I'm building I want to serve Static files (static HTML pages and a lot of images), and Dynamic XML generated by my servlet. The dynamic XML is generated from my database (through Hibernate) and I use Restlets to serve it in response to API calls. I want to create a static file server (e.g. Apache) so that this does not interfere with the dynamic server traffic. Currently both servers need to run on the same machine. I've never done something like this before and this is where I'm stuck: The static HTML pages contain JavaScript that makes API calls to the dynamic server. However, since the two servers operate on different ports, I get stuck with the same origin problem. How can this be solved? As a bonus, if you can point me to any resources that explain how to create such a static/dynamic content serving system, I'll be happy. Thanks!

  • Mapping multiple keys to the same value in a Javascript hash

    - by Bears will eat you
    I use a Javascript hash object to store a set of numerical counters, set up like this [this is greatly simplified]: var myHash = { A: 0, B: 0, C: 0 }; Is there a way to make other keys, ones not explicitly in myHash, map to keys that are? For instance, I'd like [again, this is simplified]: myHash['A_prime']++; // or myHash.A_prime++; to be exactly equivalent to myHash['A']++; // or myHash.A++; e.g. incrementing the value found at the key A, not A_prime.

  • How to scale an image (in data URI format) in JavaScript (real scaling, not using styling)

    - by 103067513055141045393
    We are capturing a visible tab in a Chrome browser (by using the extensions API chrome.tabs.captureVisibleTab) and receiving a snapshot in the data URI scheme (Base64 encoded string). Is there a JavaScript library that can be used to scale down an image to a certain size? Currently we are styling it via CSS, but have to pay performance penalties as pictures are mostly 100 times bigger than required. Additional concern is also the load on the localStorage we use to save our snapshots. Does anyone know of a way to process this data URI scheme formatted pictures and reduce their size by scaling them down? - by Scott
    So I just created a textbox with JavaScript like this: EDIT: Added the len variable var len = tbl.rows.length; var rtb = tbl.insertRow(len); var cName = rtb.insertCell(0); var cDis = rtb.insertCell(1); var cDur = rtb.insertCell(2); cName.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbName1' + len + '" value="' + selected_text + '" >'; cDis.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbDis1' + len + '" id="tbDis1' + len + '" >'; cDur.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbDur1' + len + '" >'; var txtBox = document.getElementById('tbDist1' + len); txtBox.focus(); EDIT:Changed the second to last line.   • Using javascript to call controller methond in mvc

    - by Christian Thoresson Dahl
    Im trying to make a table row work as a link to another view in my mvc website. Instead of using the standard "Details" link provided by the auto generated table list, I would like to use the table row as a link to the "Details" view instead. So somehow I need to make the row work as a link. Each rom has a unique id that I need to pass on to the controller method. I have tried different solutions but noting happens when I press on the table row... So far this is what I have: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#customers tr').click(function () { var id = $(this).attr('id'); $.ajax({ url: "Customer/Details" + id, succes: function () { } }); }) }) </script> My controller method: public ActionResult Details(int id) { Customer model = new Customer(); model = this.dbEntities.Customers.Where(c => c.Customer_ID == id).Single(); return View(model); }

  • Checking online users with Facebook Javascript SDK

    - by Roman
    Hi, I'm trying to build some kind of a social game in facebook, where I need that every user that has approved my APP is able to receive notifications from me. When the user approves my App, I save his UID in the DB for future reference. At some later time, I want to make it possible for other users find partners for a game - so I need a way to pick randomly some user from my DB and check if he's online. Then, send him a message and propose to play with the current player. So 2 questions: How can I check if some user is online, using Javascript SDK? It seems that in the new Graph API I can't get the users' online status. How can I then send him a message and propose to play the game? When he approves to play - he is being forwarded to the game page. Many thanks in advance, Roman

  • Getting Google Chrome to Ignore IE Javascript

    - by swajak
    I'm creating a slideshow using javascript that fades images. Awhile back, I discovered that to change the opacity of an image, I have to use a different API, depending on whether the page is viewed in Firefox or IE. Firefox: img.style.opacity = [value 0 to 1]; IE: img.style.filter="progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Alpha(opacity= [value 0 to 100] )"; So, currently, I use <script LANGUAGE="JScript"> for code that is meant for IE. This was suggested in the Mozilla docs. The problem: Chrome thinks my <script LANGUAGE="JScript"> code is valid, when it is not. How to make Chrome ignore the code inside <script LANGUAGE="JScript"> ? Or how to make my opacity code cross-browser?

  • javascript fit image to box

    - by Manna
    I need to make my image fitting into my div, I want the picture to be only inside the div, the rest of the picture will be behind the other elements. Basically I want to achieve the same effect as here http://tommywebdesigner.com/Home%20Page.html but with the div id="background"and div id="content" i have created. As you can see first i gave margin-bottom="350px to the header in order to create a blank space, here i have the space for the img in my div id="background"which is located under (z-index: -1;) and the rest of the elements is placed over inside the the div id="content" (z-index:2;) I need now a Javascript which fit this image in the div id="background". Now the image is not located between the menu-bar and the rest of the elements Here you can look: http://fiddle.jshell.net/CGJmE/10/ Here the effect i want to achieve playing with these div : http://tommywebdesigner.com/Home%20Page.html The reason why i want to do like that is beacuse in the future maybe i will need to put a video there and i couldn do with background-image as i have done here

  • Strophe javascript prevent disconnection on some delay

    - by patrikas
    Hello, I am developing javascript XMPP application which uses Strophe library to connect to Jabber server. I need to engage the thread for about 5-10 seconds when Strophe connects to the server. Thread is engaged by running java applet and after it releases the thread it goes back to handle XMPP events, however at the moment I cannot manage to do that - trying to use a connection after delay gives me 404 HTTP error (this is sent by XMPP-BOSHS service straight after Strophe sends POST request with XMPP message to it). I was trying to 'pause' a connection with Strophe's connection.pause and then resume it - didn't work. Would sending some raw content to the server, maybe if it's possible telling it that client's gonna be unresponsive for a short time work ? Are there any other solutions ? Thanks

  • Mobile Safari Youtube opened via javascript

    - by Squeegy
    We have a youtube player embedded in a plage in Mobile Safari and it works great. But we need to be able to launch the youtube player by a means other than user tapping the video itself, for various reasons. So I am trying to figure out what event to trigger in javascript to make it happen with no luck. None of the following appear to work. var vid = document.getElementById('vid'); vid.click(); vid.onclick(); vid.ontouchend(); vid.ontouchstart(); vid.focus(); I tried to find an event handler added to the embedded object with this snippet, but didn't find anything. for (var key in vid) { if (typeof vid[key] == 'function') console.log(key +': '+ vid[key]); } Is this just so wrapped up in a custom plugin there is no way?

  • Does C# have an equivalent to JavaScript's encodeURIComponent()?

    - by travis
    In JavaScript: encodeURIComponent("©v") == "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A" Is there an equivalent for C# applications? For escaping HTML characters I used: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"&#" + ((int)m.Value[0]).ToString() + ";"); But I'm not sure how to convert the match to the correct hexadecimal format that JS uses. For example this code: txtOut.Text = Regex.Replace(txtIn.Text, @"[\u0080-\uFFFF]", m => @"%" + String.Format("{0:x}", ((int)m.Value[0]))); Returns "%a9%221a" for "©v" instead of "%C2%A9%E2%88%9A". It looks like I need to split the string up into bytes or something. Edit: This is for a windows app, the only items available in System.Web are: AspNetHostingPermission, AspNetHostingPermissionAttribute, and AspNetHostingPermissionLevel.
