• Ubuntu 11.10 UI changed suddenly?

  10 64 bit on a Dell laptop that has 6GB RAM and 1GB graphic card. All of a sudden there were some sudden changes in UI which I am unable to understand why. The unity panel was initially glassy and transparent, now it looks all black in its background. Likewise the alt+tab graphics was working well until it got changed suddenly and now shows icons on pure white background. I've not tried to install any themes and I've not tried to tweak anything. Why did this UI changes occur? Could it be that it is unable to detect the graphic card or something? How can I fix this and how can I get back the original desktop back? Please help..

• jQuery Ajax Methods Not Returning XHR Object

  UPDATE: I haven't figured out what's going on, but this definitely seems to be a problem with my project. After creating a simple test page, I was able to verify that getJSON does in fact return an XHR object like it's supposed to. Per the stackoverflow question/answer here: Kill ajax requests using javascript using jquery. and a number of other question/answers on this site and others, the jQuery Ajax methods should return the XHR object. However, when I run the following code, request is "undefined". var request = $.getJSON(url, function(data) { console.log(data); }); console.log(request); Did I miss a change in jQuery? I'm using 1.4.4.

Where certain Javascript operations could be accomplished easier, without bringing jQuery into the mix. Or is this a rare case? (of a jQuery "shortcut" actually requiring more code) EDIT : While I appreciate the answers regarding jQuery vs. plain javascript performance, I am actually looking for much more quantitative answers. While using jQuery, instances where one would actually be better off (readability/compactness) to use plain javascript instead of using $().   Hi To resolve a jQuery slideDown/Up problem, I had to change one line in the jQuery file. I changed line 5738 from this.elem.style.display = "block"; to this.elem.style.display = "inline-block"; The block attribute messed up my lists when using slideDown/Up/Toggle. slideDown changes my list from display:inline to display:block during execution, and then back to display: inline again. It would be much better if it was inline (or inline-block) all the way. Is there a way to override the value stated above from my html page, or do I have to stick with my modified jQuery file?   I am building an ASP.NET MVC application that is AJAX-driven. For some reason I need to add some DOM elements on the fly when clicking a submit button. This is accomplished with jQuery.append(). One element inserted is a textarea, whose the data must be parse before submitting to ensure that no cross-site scripting can be done. We know that the Html.Encode() works great but must be declared outside a script tag. All I have done with jQuery is embedded within a script tag. 1) Is there a way to take advantage of the Html.Encode() within a script tag? 2) How can I accomplish this with jQuery? At worst I can use HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(), which is called on the server-side. Thanks for your help. Roland

  In my rails app I have a search bar where users can search other users. Currently when a User submits the search from, they're redirected to a "results" page. I want to load those results in a div on the same page..   Basically I create a page with a jQuery scroller on it. However in IE7 specifically, on refresh all the li's on the page are shown full out then they hide and the scroller begins. Anyone know how I can fire the jquery first, or prevent this from happening.   I'm running into a strange problem - I tried running a basic function in JS and jQuery, and while the former worked, the latter didn't. JS - okay alert('Works'); jQuery - not okay $(document).ready({ alert('Works'); }); Here's some facts: My references to the jQuery library are correct (And pretty sure my Internet connection is steady :) I'm using a CDN - CloudFlare to be exact, but I've switched development mode on and Rocket Loader off - so all the code I've uploaded to the server is WYSIWYG (CloudFlare adds some stuff in the tags if you leave Rocket Loader on. I tried running the alert code in the head section, and elsewhere in the body tags, to no avail. What could have possibly gone wrong?   I have some jQuery code something like this: $(document).ready(function() { $("img.off").click(function() { alert('on'); $(this).attr('class', 'on'); }); $("img.on").click(function() { alert('off'); $(this).attr('class', 'off'); }); }); The selector works fine for images that have the class name defined in the original HTML document, however after manipulating the class name with jQuery, the img item will not respond to selectors using it's new class. In other words, running the above code, if you click an 'off' img, it will trigger the first function, and change the class to 'on'. However, clicking this image again does not trigger the second function (as I would have expected), but rather triggers the first again. It's as if the selector is reading the old DOM rather than the updated version. What am I doing wrong here? Firefox 3.6.3 - jQuery 1.4.2

  Hi, so I want to do something like when you press on LogOut, you get a waiting message like "please wait.." while its running ucp.php?mode=logout in the background, and after it has loaded that it should refresh the site. How should this be done?? The front end function is being used on pages and that's working fine to. the problem is the admin function, it's not working at all. is there a speial way i have to write a .click()-function to get it to work on my settings-page for the wordpress plugin?

  I am simply attempting to get jquery to identify the first letter of a paragraph. How would I do this? For example, I have a page with a number of paragrahs on a page. I would like only the paragraphs starting with a specified letter to be given the class "current" and all others to be hidden. I pretty much know how to add the class and hide the others but, I cant get jquery to recognize the first letter. Secondly, is it possible to pull this 'first letter' variable from the url string? For example, Page 1 - There is a list of letters. The user clicks 'B' and the url is http://domain.com/page2.html?letter=b And page2 picks up that variable (b) and applies it to the Jquery, showing only those paragraphs

• How to repopulate DataTables when having lots of data?

  Hi I am using datatables jquery plugin. I now have to clear the entire datatable and populate it with new data on the fly(all done through ajax). So what I was thinking to do is when I need to do this. Destroy the datatable remove the data html call up the partial view that renders the table Rebind the datatable with jquery. However it seems that datatable has no destroy method. So I know you can set the datatable to do something with ajax but I am not sure how. My datatable just uses the dom way when the page is loaded. I don't want to use the "fnAddData" as I am not sure how to format this 2d array they want and I don't think this is the best option. I think the best option is some how render the partial view back and use there ajax plugin. But I am not sure where that is or how to use it(I know it exists but that's about it). Thanks

Using jQuery is not always an option (or even a want) which can make understanding the examples of javascript solutions written in jQuery hard. I need jquery to check if an element exists, and if so, add a class to a different element. For example, if class "minimal-price-link" exists, then add a class to "regular-price" or what I really am wanting to do is make the regular-price strikethrough.
