• How do I Setup Multiple Sites in HostGator Shared Hosting?

  I recently decided to consolidate all of my random projects into a single hosting account as it was starting to get very expensive to run each on an individual hosting plan. I purchased the HostGator Baby plan which allows hosting of multiple domains. You have to set it up with a root domain name which is fine (I used my portfolio domain name). As far as file structure, I wanted a folder for each site in /public_html so the structure looks like this: - public_html/ - myportfolio.com/ - ... my files ... - anothersite.com/ - ... my files ... - thirdsite.com/ - ... my files ... I setup add-on domains and pointed them to their respective folders which works fine. My problem is the root domain ex. myportfolio.com expects it's files to be contained at the root of /public_html rather than within it's folder I created. I setup a redirect to point requests for myportfolio.com to myportfolio.com/myportfolio.com/ which works initially except (at least in my WordPress installation) it still references it's root folder as public_html. TL;DR; What is the best way to go about setting up multiple site hosting in a shared hosting environment (i.e. I can't setup vhosts). Does anybody know of any tutorials or videos that walk through this more clearly? Thanks.

• Change DPI setting in Windows 8.1 for the Logon Screen

  How can the DPI setting be changed for the Logon Screen in Windows 8.1? Microsoft has added per-user DPI settings. But this means that there is no adjustable DPI setting for the Lock/Logon screen. You can change the DPI setting to be the same across all displays and this does affect the icons and font on the lock/logon screen. However, it does not affect any app/program that can run on the lock/logon screen. Ex. I use a 44" flat screen TV for my monitor on my desktop. Big enough for me to sit in my recliner and use my computer. I use the on-screen keyboard most of the time. (I don't want to keep a keyboard next to me.) The problem is that with the new DPI setup the on-screen keyboard takes up nearly half the screen, which is too big. I tried looking through the registry to see if I could find a setting for it. In the key HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop there is a string value named LogicalDPIOverride with a value of -1. I have a feeling this is where I can fix the issue. I tried changing the value to 0 and to 1 with no change in the result. Instead I noticed that after logging out and back in the -1 value was back in the registry. How can I change this default DPI? Can I use the LogPixels string that worked for DPI in Windows 7? Here are two Screen shots, one of the Lock Screen and one of the Logon Screen:

• How to render remote assistance to a person using Live Messenger?

  There is a feature within Windows Live Messenger v9 that allows a person to ask for remote assistance. BBut as I understand it, this works only if the router is UPnP enabled on both ends. Today I tried this with a friend during an active chat session, and nothing happened. I suspect a router problem. as I am remote, I cannot configure the router for them. What's a good way to render remote assistance? Here's the scenario: it will be based on invitation only (it's not a remote desktop or "logmein" situation). It's a younger person, a computer novice, on the other end of the wire. I'll be assiting with their use of applications on the PC. I'd l ike to be able to SEE the screen, and also use the mouse and keyboard. I have used Ultra-Vnc on the target machine and vncviewer on my machine, on a LAN. It works well. But I don't think I can use that, because it's my kids' computer in my ex-wife's place, and I don't want her to accuse me of spying on her computer. That's why I need it to be invitation only. Advice please. Is there an easy way for me to set up Remote Assistance? IS there some other tool I can use?

• IDE/PATA high-speed hard drive dock

  I frequently need to access bare drives for backups and need a quick, high-speed way to deal with them. There are a multitude of SATA hard drive docks (for example), but I have a lot of IDE/PATA (hereafter "IDE") drives that I would like to be able to use similarly. There are IDE-to-SATA adapters so you can plug your IDE hard drive into a SATA port, so I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the same technology to have a native dock, yet none seems to exist. Now, I'm aware that 3.5" IDE drives do not have a specification for the layout of the connector, and therefore can't be slapped into a dock the same way a SATA drive could, but 2.5" PATA drives do. In fact, I'm not terribly interested in supporting 3.5" drives. It would be nice, but I deal with them far less frequently than 2.5" drives. Also, I'd very much like for the connection to the computer be faster than USB, preferably eSATA, I don't want to be spending time mounting a drive inside an enclosure, I don't want bare drives lying around with a cable hanging off of them, and I'd prefer a single dock rather than two. What seems like the ideal solution to me would be a regular SATA→eSATA dock and some sort of screwless adapter for IDE drives, but I'm open to any suggestions, regardless of my stated preferences, but which are, in some sort of order of preference: high-speed (faster than USB, at least) holder for drive (not just a cable) no complicated enclosure support for 3.5" IDE drives single dock Updates: Here's a 3.5" IDE to 3.5" SATA docking adapter that could be part of the solution. Weird. I figured that would be the impossible part. I was hoping to find something like this 2.5" to 3.5" SATA chassis that would take a 44-pin IDE drive internally. It looks like the Vantec EZ Swap EX comes awfully close. It has its own bay dock, but it looks like the SATA ports on the back are spaced properly, even if they're not aligned quite properly. Unfortunately, the proper position is at the very edge of the drive, which means that the docks' connectors are at the very edge of their recesses, which means there's no way to fit it in there.

No sólo por la coyuntura económica actual, sino también por cuestiones estructurales y normativas que obligan a las entidades bancarias -normalmente a la cabeza de la innovación tecnológica, por cierto- a seguir dando pasos hacia el futuro, manteniendo la tecnología en el corazón de su estrategia de negocio. Así se ha puesto de manifiesto en el encuentro que se ha celebrado hoy en Madrid: Oracle in Banking, donde expertos de Oracle, clientes de la compañía y analistas han puesto sobre la mesa algunos de los desafíos a los que se enfrenta el sector e ideas para aprovechar al máximo la tecnología en la resolución de estos desafíos. El evento ha sido todo un éxito, con asistencia masiva de clientes y partners. En la imagen que ilustra este artículo pueden verse, por este orden: una panorámica de la sala, Modesto Villajos, Regional Sales Manager de Oracle, quien ejerció de maestro de ceremonias. Leopoldo Boado, Country Manager de Oracle España, quien realizó la introducción, Alex Kwiatkowski, de IDC, quien expuso los prinicipales desafíos a los que se enfrenta la banca, y Máximo Díez, Senior Director Financial Services de Oracle, que planteó las diferentes estrategias de transformación que pueden emprender los bancos. A veces es difícil darnos cuenta, pero hoy en día nuestras interacciones con el banco han alcanzado una gran diversidad de canales (sucursal, ATM, Internet, banca telefónica, banca móvil...). Esto supone un permanente desafío tecnológico y de procesos para las entidades financieras. El tercer elemento crítico es el del incremento de la eficiencia de las operaciones, manteniendo los costes bajo control o incluso reduciéndolos aún más. Por último, las entidades bancarias tienen ante sí el reto de encontrar nuevas fuentes de ingresos, de forma que el foco deje de estar únicamente en la reducción de costes y la minimización de riesgos. Lo cierto es que en la actualidad, la atención principal se centra en estos dos puntos, pero como mencionó Alex Kwiatkowski "los CIO`s de los bancos se van a plantar en la mesa del CEO con la necesidad de realizar renovaciones completas de los sistemas de core banking y la necesidad de invertir en el desarrollo de nuevos canales". Máximo Díez también enfatizó esta necesidad en su presentación. Los bancos tienen la obligación de econtrar nuevas fórmulas para impulsar el crecimiento, pero la implementación de estrategias en este sentido presenta fuertes desafíos a causa de las limitaciones de los sistemas IT existentes. No hay duda de que se presenta un futuro muy interesante en el ámbito tecnológico para el sector financiero. • Linux/Unix MTA with the smartest queue?

  I am looking for an MTA that will allow me (a script, really) to proactively manage it's send queue in response to status codes returned by the remote servers I am delivering to. Basically, for each mail sent I would like to be able to react to the SMTP reply code returned by the remote server, ex. '250 OK', or to any error conditions like connection timeouts. Additionally, I would like to be able to manage the send queue moving forward based on this information, e.g. 'example.com has timed out the last 5 connection attempts, so no longer queue mail for recipients @example.com'. I am currently using postfix and perl to parse it's logs for this information, but I am playing a game of catchup that is prone to errors (out-of-order log entries etc.) and it's starting to get messy (some real ugly regexes ;). I really don't want to reinvent the wheel and use some language's smtp library; i would prefer to use a proven/fast/reliable MTA. I am however open to suggestions if what I need just isn't possible. • Permissions won't cascade more than 1 level

  Running Windows Small Business Server 2011 I have a file structure with a lot of sub folders (sometimes 5-6 levels deep). I have created access groups to grant access to my users, and also deny groups to deny access to others. X Access & X Deny. These allow or deny access to a mapped network drive X: On the server I put in the groups with Full Control Allow for X Access and Full Control Deny for X Deny, I also tick the box "Apple these permissions to objects and/or containers within this container only" and have ensured that "Apply to:" is "This folder, subfolders and files". But for some reason the permissions will only apply to the next level of folders & files. ex. structure: X: Folder 1 Folder 1a Folder 2 Folder 2a If I apply the permissions to X: it'll only go to Folder 1 & 2, not 1a and 2a, I then need to manually apply the permissions to these too. Is this working as intended or am I doing something wrong?

• btrfs: can i create a btrfs file system with data as jbod and metadata mirrored

  I am trying to build a home server that will be my NAS/Media server as well a the XBMC front end. I am planning on using Ubuntu with btrfs for the NAS part of it. The current setup consists of 1TB hdd for the OS etc and two 2TB hdd's for data. I plan to have the 2TB hdd's used as JBOD btrfs system in which i can add hdd's as needed later, basically growing the filesystem online. They way I had setup the file system for testing was while installing the OS just have one of the HDD's connected and have btrfs on it mounted as /data. Later on add another hdd to this file system. When the second disk was added btrfs made as RAID 0, with metadata being RAID 1. However, this presents a problem: even if one of the disk fails I loose all my data (mostly media). Also most of the time the server will be running without doing any disk access, i.e. the HDD's can be spun down, when a access request comes in this with the current RAID 0 setup both disks will spin up. in case I manage a JBOD only the disk that has the file needs to be spun up. This should hopefully reduce the MTBF for each disk. So, is there a way in which I can have btrfs setup such that metadata is mirrored but data stays in a JBOD formation? Another question I have is this, I understand that a full drive failure in JBOD will lose data on the drive, but having metadeta mirrored across all drives, will this help the filesytem correct errors that migh creep in (ex bit rot?) and is btrfs capable of doing this.

• Need troubleshooting advice for intermittent dns problems with requests on isp nameservers

  I've been having some intermittent dns problems with a web server, where certain isp's dns servers don't have my hostnames in cache and fail to look them up. At the same time, queries to opendns for those hostnames resolve correctly. It's intermittent, and it always works fine for me, so it's hard to identify the problem when someone reports connectivity problems to my site. My website is on a server running linux with Plesk. My dns records are configured with plesk (so my server is its own dns master). Domain name is registered with godaddy. I'm not real knowledgeable about dns, so I don't really know how to begin with troubleshooting. I've started learning to use dig, but while I can read the manpage to learn the syntax, I don't really know what questions to ask. Since the problem is intermittent I haven't been able to really catalog many symptoms. Symptoms I have observed: Certain people repeatedly reported intermittent problems connecting to my website. This was only from certain networks. (Ex: One guy could connect reliably from his office but not his home.) Sometimes I notice my browser taking a long time looking up the hostname for my site (Firefox shows a message in the status bar at the bottom). For me this is in the ten second range. ssh connections from anywhere to my server take a long time to connect but then seem to work fine once connected. So hopefully the folks on serverfault can point me to a good beginner tutorial for understanding dns, and suggest troubleshooting questions to ask next time one of my users reports connectivity problems.

• When running PowerShell script as a scheduled task some Exchange 2010 database properties are null

  Hello, I've written a script that intends to retrieve the DatabaseSize of a database from Exchange 2010. I created a new AD user for this script to run under as a scheduled task. I gave this user admin rights to the Exchange Organization (as a last resort during my testing) and local admin rights on the Exchange machine. When I run this script manually by starting powershell (with runas /noprofile /user:domain\user powershell) everything works fine. All the database properties are available. When I run the script as a scheduled task a lot of the properties are null including the one I want: DatabaseSize. I've also tried running the script as the domain admin account with the same results. There must be something different in the two contexts but I can't figure out what it is. • SPDIF passthrough not working in Windows 7

  Hi, I'm running Windows 7 on a computer with an Audigy Platinum eX sound card connected to a surround receiver via optical cabling. Sound works fine when listening to non-surround audio sources, such as windows sounds or MP3. However, when I view a DVD in Media Center and the SPDIF passthrough kicks in, I can only hear an awful noise instead of the movie soundtrack. Also, the receiver does not show the Dolby Digital or DTS symbol, but stays at Dolby Prologic, so it seems it doesn't identify the sound encoding properly. I could switch off SPDIF passthrough and use the sound card's decoder instead, but that's not an option for me since it would create more problems with regular MP3 playback via additional Stereo Receiver which is also connected to the same sound card. I've tried both the default Audigy drivers that come with Windows 7 and the latest drivers from the Soundblaster website, but the problem remains unchanged. • Built local glibc, broke system, how do I ssh without parsing the .bashrc?

  The cluster I am on had really old build tools and I needed to use CUDA5. I'm a pretty clever dude and I planned on building the necissary tools. So, I built a local copy of gcc, bintools, and glibc. Everything a CUDA5 could want. All builds finished without error. and I tested gcc and bintools. Everything was wonderful and I built and ran a few of the programs. I set up the LD_LIBRARY_PATHs in the .bashrc and logged back in, expecting a productive night ahead. To my horror I realized that everything is dynamically linked. Now I can't do simple commands like ls [ex@uid377 ~]$ ls ls: error while loading shared libraries: __vdso_time: invalid mode for dlopen(): Invalid argument and I can't do commands to fix the problem like rm or vim! Is there a way for me to ssh but also to ignore .bashrc file? Any suggestions are much appreciated. This machine is obviously under maintained and I don't know when I could have administrator support.

• Windows 7 Folder Redirection (GPO)

  I have been fighting this issue for a day or two now, so I am looking for some insight. I am taking over admin duties in a domain of 800 users, and the previous admins really did not employ much of any GPO settings for the clients of the Domain. In each site, there is a location on the file server where "Home" folders were manually created. EX: \server\home\enduser Whenever a user got a machine, the admin would manually right-click on the "My Documents" folder and manually enter the path to the home folder. We are planning to start putting Windows 7 machines on the Network, and I am wanting to automate as much as I can, everything that was not done in the past. Since everyone has exising "Home" folders I have been fighting and trying to get Folder Redirection to work with a new Windows 7 machine (In a Test OU). I am getting all kinds of errors and I can't get the Windows 7 "Documents" folder to redirect to the users EXISTING home folders. As I stated earlier, all of the Home folders were (and still are) manually created on the File Server and are set with the following Security permissions - Domain Admins - Full Control euser (end user) - Modify (Everything but Full) Can someone point me in the right direction on the proper setting to put in the Folder Redirection GPO to get this to work with the Existing Home folders.

• Lubuntu upgrade to 13.04 killed sound with ALSA. How to troubleshoot?

  After upgrading to 13.04 from 12.10 Lubuntu lost audio playback after unplugging usb soundcard (Polycom) and plugging it back in. Volume control was gray and leading to pulseaudio mixer (not installed) so I uninstalled the pulseaudio package. I also removed and reinstalled the alsa-base package. • Weird fluctuating time on a XEN linux guest

  I have a weird problem with some servers here at work. We have a few XEN guests who's current time fluctuates. # date;date;date;date;date;date;date Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:48 PHT 2010 Thu Feb 25 16:00:40 PHT 2010 As seen above, the time fluctuates between 16:00:48 and 16:00:40, which is problematic for us since computing for time differences in some of our scripts becomes inaccurate (ex. what should be a few ms differences becomes some few second differences, and even sometimes, negative differences). The problematic servers are linux guests on a XEN host. The time fluctuates on the guest systems, but it is okay in the host itself. I've ruled out ntpd since this happens irregardless of whether ntpd is running or not on the guest systems. Guest is on full virtualisation. The time on both the host and the guest does match except that the time in the guest fluctuates at about a few seconds from the host's time, and the host time does not fluctuate. /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock is 0 in the host and does not exist in the guest. Ntpd service was stopped and disabled. Setting independent_wallclock to 1 in the host has no effect (that is, time still fluctuates in the guest). Though I was not able to restart the guest as it is a production server. Might be able to do that over the weekend. Any ideas on what to check and how to resolve this problem?

• Excel Help: Data Input Help

  Everyday I download data from a site that will have rows each filled with individual data for clients. I'm able to input the data into excel as a whole but after that I'm having trouble figuring out how to put it into a chart. For example Web visits time. So say Client 1 stayed for 5 min increasing his total time on the site to 20 min and Client 2 stayed for 0 min keeping his time of 10 min and they were both registered on new years eve, and R1's last login was today and R2's was yesterday. (R for some reason repersents Client, no idea why...). Client 3 hasn't been on since he registered keeping his total at 4 min So my data would look something like this for Today (20110104) R1,20101231,20110104,20 R2,20101231,20110103,10 R3,20101231,20101231,4 And this for the day before (201101030), R1,20101231,20110102,15 R2,20101231,20110103,10 R3,20101231,20101231,4 I get about 200+ client rows each day where even the names of the Client list are changing. Is it possible to import the data each day and fill it in a excel sheet where the Client number is off on the left hand side in a table, and the amount of time (Whole Number ex. 4) each day it spends on the site extend to the right under it's specific date see Picture? I've manage to create a manual sheet but have been unsucessful at getting excel to do any of it for me. Here are two pictures:

• Adding third disk as a single disk in a server with an existing RAID1

  I've got a ProLiant DL360 G5 server (Fedora 13) with two SAS disks in a hardware RAID 1, working fine. Now I hot plugged another SAS disk. I'd like to configure this new hard disk out of my RAID, as a single non-RAID disk (ex. /dev/sdb). Even after rebooting the server, I can't see the new disk with "fdisk -l". It displays only my hardware RAID, but not the new disk. [root@myserver]# fdisk -l Disco /dev/cciss/c0d0: 300.0 GB, 299966445568 bytes Disposit. • Getting rsync to move file from source to destination ?

  Is rsync is a good choice for my project ? I have to : - copy files from source to destination folder via SSH, - be sure all files are copied, - delete source files after copy. - if I have conflict name, I have to rename files. It looks like I can use option : --remove-source-files (to delete source files) But how rsync manage conflict, can I had rules ? Use case on my project : I run scientific calculation on server A and results are inserted in folder "process", for each calculation I have a repository like this : /process/calc1. Now I would like to transfer repository "/calc1" to server B (I get /process/calc1), and delete "calc1" from server A. ...During another calculation I get "/process/calc2" on server A, the idea is also to move "calc2" in "/process/" directory on server B, then I have now on server B : - /process/calc1 - /process/calc2 (and /process/ on server A is empty). How rsync will manage conflict (on server B) if I have another folder like "/process/calc1" in server A after a new calculation (if "/process/calc1" already exist on server B) ? Is it possible to add rules with rsync, and rename "/process/calc1" by "process/calc1R2" in server B ? And so on (ex:calc1R3) ? Thanks.

• Convert old AVI files to a modern format

  Hi, we have a collection of old home videos that were saved in AVI format a long time ago. I want to convert these files to a more modern format because the Totem Movie Player that comes with Ubuntu 10.4 seems to be the only program capable of playing them. The files seem to be encoded with a MJPEG codec, and playing them in VLC or Windows Media Player plays only the sound but there is no video. Avidemux was able to open the files, but the quality of the video is severely degraded: The video skips frames and is interlaced (it's not interlaced when playing it in Totem). Neither ffmpeg nor mencoder seems to be able to read the video stream. mencoder reports that it is using ffmpeg's codec.
