• Best way to do syntax highlighting in GTK+?

  I was wondering if someone could point me to an example of (or just their thoughts on) the best way to code syntax highlighting in a C-based GTK+ application. I know that I can use the GtkTextTag to modify text in a GtkTextBuffer but beyond searching out keywords (iteratively or by regexing the string) is there a better way? My only concern is that if I wipe all of the tags and then re-search and apply the tags at every text change event it could really bog down my application. As always thanks for your help!

  Hi all, I´m trying to write a function what detect this relation between the variables I have got in the workspace: v1 - fft(v2) = 0 Where v1, v2 are variables of my workspace. Sometimes I need to know which variables have a certain numerical relation. If I have thirty, I don´t want to be looking for this relation in "manual way", just itroducing a sentence for each pair of different variables. I would like a function in which I introuce (or I modify this function every time I need it) the sentence (for instance what I wrote before) and the function show me the pair of variables a I am looking for. Does anyone know how to do it? Thank you so much!

• What's the best way to add tags to the head in Plone?

  I want to add the link tags to redirect my web-site to my OpenID provider. These tags should go in the head element. What's the best way to add them in Plone? I understand that filling the head_slot is a way to do it, but that can only happen when you are adding a template to the page and that template is being rendered. In my case I'm not adding any template. Which template should I modify (that is not main_template.pt, which is my current solution, with it's huge drawbacks).

• Prevent unauthorised write access to a part of filesystem or partition

  Hello all I have some very important system files which I want to protect from accidental deletion even by root user. I can create a new partition for that and mount it with readonly access but the problem is that I want my application which handles those system files to have write access to that part and be able to modify them. Is that possible using VFS? As VFS handles access to the files I could have a module inserted in the VFS layer which can see if there is a write access to that part then see the authorization and allow it or otherwise reject it. If not please provide me suggestions regarding how can such a system be implemented what would I need in that case. If there exists a system like this please suggest about them also. I am using linux and want to implement this in C, I think it would be possible in C only. Edit: There are such kind of programs implemented in windows which can restrict access to administrator even, to some important folders, would that be possible in linux?

• Using GET instead of POST to delete data behind authenticated pages

  I know you should use POST whenever data will be modified on a public website. There are several reasons including the fact that search engines will follow all the links and modify the data. My question is do you think it is OK to use GET behind authenticated pages in something like an admin interface? One example would be a list of products with a delete link on each row. Since the only way to get to the page is if you are logged in, is there any harm in just using a link with the product ID in the query string?

  I have a requirement to read JSON data in my application. Problem is that the JSON data that I am getting from the service includes "-" and when I am trying to read it, I am getting "Uncaught ReferenceError: person is not defined ". e.g. I have below JSON object- var JSONObject ={ "name-person":"John Johnson", "street":"Oslo West 16", "age":33, "phone":"555 1234567"}; when I am writing below console log statement I am getting "Uncaught ReferenceError: person is not defined " error console.log(JSONObject.name-person); Can someone please help me how to read such data which includes "-" in it?   In my app, I use Groovy as a scripting language. To make things easier for my customers, I have a global scope where I define helper classes and constants. Currently, I need to run the script (which builds the global scope) every time a user script is executed: context = setupGroovy(); runScript( context, "global.groovy" ); // Can I avoid doing this step every time? runScript( context, "user.groovy" ); Is there a way to setup this global scope once and just tell the embedded script interpreter: "Look here if you can't find a variable"? That way, I could run the global script once. Note: Security is not an issue here but if you know a way to make sure the user can't modify the global scope, that's an additional plus.

  When you guys are unit testing an application that relies on values from an app.config file? How do you test that those values are read in correctly and how your program reacts to incorrect values entered into a config file? It would be ridiculous to have to modify the config file for the NUnit app, but I can't read in the values from the app.config I want to test. Edit: I think I should clarify perhaps. I'm not worried about the ConfigurationManager failing to read the values, but I am concerned with testing how my program reacts to the values read in.

• Have parameters in Dao methods to get entities the most efficient way for read-only access

  Allot of my use of hibernate, at least for that data that is presented on many parts of the web application, is for read-only purposes. I want to add some parameters to my Dao methods so I can modify the way hibernate pulls the data and how it handles transactions etc. Example usage: Data on the front page of my website is displayed to the users, it is read-only, so I want to avoid any session/entity tracking that hibernate usually does. This is data that is read-only, will not be changed in this transaction, etc. What would be the most performant way to pull the data?   I want to do a search across 2 tables that have a many-to-one relationship, eg class User << ActiveRecord::Base has_many :pets end class Pet << ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :users end Now let's say I have some data like so users id name 1 Bob 2 Joe 3 Brian pets id user_id animal 1 1 cat 2 1 dog 3 2 cat 4 3 dog What I want to do is create an active record query that will return a user that has both a cat and a dog (i.e. user 1 - Bob). My attempt at this so far is User.joins(:pets).where('pets.animal = ? AND pets.animal = ?','dog','cat') Now I understand why this doesn't work - it's looking for a pet that is both a dog and a cat so returns nothing. I don't know how to modify this to give me the answer I want however. Does anyone have any suggestions? This seems like it should be easy - it doesn't seem like an especially unusual situation.

• php - track down premature headers leak

  I'm using set_cookie() on a site. After adding some functionality, I'm getting Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by... error. The line number it references as to where the headers initiated from is the very line where set_cookie() is! And I checked, it's not being called twice. How can I track down these premature headers? I looked at the source code and didn't see any stray characters or anything before the error message starts ( I'm using xdebug, so the first thing is a , which I thought was me, but is actually the beginning of the xdebug message ). I've grepped my code for extra echo and so forth -- nothing. Can PHP tell me when and where the headers are starting? Or are they really starting on the set_cookie line, and if so, how have I gotten myself into this situation, and how do I get out?

• Wordpress database query running slow - one of the columns doesn't exist!

  Hi there. I'm having some problems with the query that wordpress runs. That's the one: SELECT DISTINCT ID,post_title,post_date,post_content,MATCH(post_title,post_content) AGAINST ('S') AS score FROM wp_posts WHERE MATCH (post_title,post_content) AGAINST ('S') AND post_date <= 'S' AND post_status = 'S' AND id != N AND post_type = 'S' ORDER BY score DESC When I'm running this query in phpmyadmin it says that N column doesn't exist so clause "AND id != N" si not making any sense. I ran the query again without this clause and db behaved like fully optimized one. Please can someone give me a hint on that? My questions are: What this clause is used for? What wordpress is trying to find by running this and Can I modify core wordpress files to get rid of this clause? Any response or help greatly appreciated!!

• Adding tables to sql server result in Domain\user.name.tablename

  Our app uses migratordotnet to modify the backing SQL Server 2005 database. This works great 99% of the time but we are running into an issue. We have a client that is using and Active Directory group for sql server login and when new tables are added it creates them as Domain\login.table_name. What permissions are needed to be given to the AD group to add the tables as dbo.table_name? This does not happen in with all of our clients with similar configurations so I must be missing something.

  Hi I followed the commonly-linked tip for reducing an application to the system tray : http://www.developer.com/net/csharp/article.php/3336751 Now it works, but there is still a problem : my application is shown when it starts ; I want it to start directly in the systray. I tried to minimize and hide it in the Load event, but it does nothing. Edit : I could, as a poster suggested, modify the shortcut properties, but I'd rather use code : I don't have complete control over every computer the soft is installed on. I don't want to remove it completely from everywhere except the systray, I just want it to start minimized. Any ideas ? Thanks

  Let's say I have the following Java interface that I may not modify: public interface MyInterface { public void doSomething(); } And now the class implementing it is like this: class MyImplementation implements MyInterface { public void doSomething() { try { // read file } catch (IOException e) { // what to do? } } } I can't recover from not reading the file. A subclass of RuntimeException can clearly help me, but I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do: the problem is that that exception would then not be documented in the class and a user of the class would possibly get that exception an know nothing about solving this. What can I do?
