• How do I install VirtualBox in 13.04?

- by user155708
I install the application using the .deb, but I can't get a virtual machine to boot. How to install it correctly from the beginning? Opening my newly-created XP machine yields this message: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows fucking sucks. VT-x features locked or unavailable in MSR. (VERR_VMX_MSR_LOCKED_OR_DISABLED). Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: Console Interface: IConsole {db7ab4ca-2a3f-4183-9243-c1208da92392}

• SQL Server 2012 Integration Services- Using Environments in Package Execution

SQL Server 2012 Integration Services offers several different options for deploying and storing SSIS packages along with their associated projects, two of which are directly related to two deployment models available in SQL Server Data Tools console. Marcin Policht presents one of these methods, which deals with packages deployed using Project Deployment Model and leverages newly introduced Environments.

• can't get past the login screen

- by Greg
Using a brand-new install to a usb stick of 12.04 lts installed by Universal USB Installer 1.8.9.8. I log in as "ubuntu" with a blank password, the console appears for a second or two with text scrolling past and then it returns to the login page. I've used the same usb stick on several computers with the same results, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware/driver issue. I have not tried installing to the hard drive, because I wanted to try it out first.

• Collision rectangle response

- by dotty
I'm having difficulties getting a moveable rectangle to collide with more than one rectangle. I'm using SFML and it has a handy function called Intersect() which takes 2 rectangles and returns the intersections. I have a vector full of rectangles which I want my moveable rectangle to collide with. I'm looping through this using the following code (p is the moveble rectangle). IsCollidingWith returns a bool but also uses SFML's Interesect to work out the intersections. while(unsigned i = 0; i!= testRects.size(); i++){ if(p.IsCollidingWith(testRects[i]){ p.Collide(testRects[i]); } } and the actual Collide() code void gameObj::collide( gameObj collidingObject ){ printf("%f %f\n", this->colliderResult.width, this->colliderResult.height); if (this->colliderResult.width < this->colliderResult.height) { // collided on X if (this->getCollider().left < collidingObject.getCollider().left ) { this->move( -this->colliderResult.width , 0); }else { this->move( this->colliderResult.width, 0 ); } } if(this->colliderResult.width > this->colliderResult.height){ if (this->getCollider().top < collidingObject.getCollider().top ) { this->move( 0, -this->colliderResult.height); }else { this->move( 0, this->colliderResult.height ); } } } and the IsCollidingWith() code is bool gameObj::isCollidingWith( gameObj testObject ){ if (this->getCollider().intersects( testObject.getCollider(), this->colliderResult )) { return true; }else { return false; } } This works fine when there's only 1 Rect in the scene. However, when there's move than one Rect it causes issue when working out 2 collisions at once. Any idea how to deal with this correctly? I have uploaded a video to youtube to show my problem. The console on the far-right shows the width and height of the intersections. You can see on the console that it's trying to calculate 2 collisions at once, I think this is where the problem is being caused. The youtube video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA2gflOMcAk also , this image also seems to illustrate the problem nicely. Can someone please help, I've been stuck on this all weekend!

• Running Assemblies in custom application domains

This sounds like a deep technical thing and internally it's right too. But in a developer prospective, if he needs to run an assembly under a fresh new ApplicationDomain, it's so easy like just use some of the classes defined in System NameSpace. Below I am explaining this with a small console application.

• Copying Properties between 2 Different Types…

- by Shawn Cicoria
I’m not sure where I had seen some of this base code, but this comes up time & time again on projects. Here’s a little method that copies all the R/W properties (public) between 2 distinct class definitions: It’s called as follows: private static void Test1() { MyClass obj1 = new MyClass() { Prop1 = "one", Prop2 = "two", Prop3 = 100 }; MyOtherClass obj2 = null; obj2 = CopyClass(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj1); Console.WriteLine(obj2); } namespace Space1 { public class MyClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } } namespace Space2 { public class MyOtherClass { public string Prop1 { get; set; } public string Prop2 { get; set; } public int Prop3 { get; set; } public override string ToString() { var rv = string.Format("MyOtherClass: {0} Prop2: {1} Prop3 {2}", Prop1, Prop2, Prop3); return rv; } } Source of the method: /// /// Provides a Copy of Public fields between 2 distinct classes /// /// Source class name /// Target class name /// Instance of type Source /// An instance of type Target copying all public properties matching name from the Source. public static T CopyClass(S source) where T : new() { T target = default(T); BindingFlags flags = BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Instance; if (source == null) { return (T)target; } if (target == null) target = new T(); PropertyInfo[] objProperties = target.GetType().GetProperties(flags); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in objProperties) { string name = pi.Name; PropertyInfo sourceProp = source.GetType().GetProperty(name, flags); if (sourceProp == null) { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - object type {0} & {1} mismatch in property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } if (pi.CanWrite && sourceProp.CanRead) { object sourceValue = sourceProp.GetValue(source, null); pi.SetValue(target, sourceValue, null); } else { throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("CopyClass - can't read/write a property object types {0} & {1} property:{2}", source.GetType(), target.GetType(), name)); } } return target; }

• BizTalk Orchestration & Port Tutorial Part 2

- by bosuch
In Part 1 I showed how to create and publish a simple Orchestration demo. Now we’ll finish configuring it in the admin console and test it. Open the BizTalk Server 2009 Administration Console, and expand BizTalk Server 2009 Administration, then Applications. You should have an entry for OrchestrationPortDemo – expand it as well. First, we’ll add the Receive Port – the place that we’ll drop the test file. Right-click on Receive Ports and select New One-way Receive Port. On the General tab, name it InputPort, then click over to Receive Locations. Click New to add a new location. Your receive location can be FTP, SQL, WCF, SharePoint, or many other choices, but for this demo we’ll add a File location. Click the Configure button and set a receive folder (something like “C:\PortDemo\”) and a file mask (stick with “*.xml” for now) and click OK three times to create your Receive Port. Next we’ll create the Send port – the location where BizTalk will drop the file. Right-click on Send Ports and choose New Static One-way Send Port. Give it an appropriate name, and configure the FILE Transport Properties as shown: Click OK twice and your Send Port will be created. Now we’ll configure the Orchestration Bindings. Click on Orchestrations, then right-click the orchestration itself and select Properties. Select the Bindings tab. Choose BizTalkServerApplication as the host, and select the Send and Receive ports you previously created, as shown: Now it’s time to fire everything up. Right-click on the send port you created and click Start. Once the Status column displays “Started”, click on Receive Locations and Enable the Receive Location previously created. Finally, start the Orchestration. Now, time to test! Create a simple xml file like: <root> <Node1>Test</Node1> <Node2>Test</Node2> </root> And drop it into the C:\PortDemo folder. After a couple of seconds the file should disappear – this indicates BizTalk has picked it up for processing. Look in the C:\PortDemo\Output folder and you should see an xml file with a GUID for a name, like {7C50104F-FC3E-4A49-B2FA-4F560A37636D}.xml. Open it to verify that it matches your input file. Practically, this demo doesn’t do a whole heck of a lot, but it shows you the basics for building, publishing and running an orchestration.

• Custom Ubuntu 12.04 distro not booting

- by user1427152
After following the instructions at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomizationFromScratch; I installed xorg, gdm, and gnome. For some reason when I try to run it on both of my computers and qemu, it freezes up. Sadly I cant access a console to view all my logs, but I do have a dump of the boot process. I can also add and remove packages by ch-rooting into the compressed file-system. DUMP: http://pastebin.com/qRZFAAeM

• Recommended learning path?

- by stairmast0r
First, my current standing: I know C++ at an.. advanced beginner level? I've gone through a book, I know the syntax well enough, I know a fair amount of standard library functions, and I've programmed some simple console stuff with it. I'd probably be able to program more with it if I knew how to structure a program, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around the whole concept of structuring something remotely complex. I've messed around with Java for a day or two, and the syntax was extremely easy to get the hang of, except that I didn't really know any functions. I'm plenty willing to learn, and to work hard to do so, but I don't really know where to go from here. Now, at the risk of sounding cliche, what I'd like to become is someone like the great three of id; Carmack, Romero, and Abrash. To be considered a genius. I believe anything can be learned, and nothing mentally limits anyone except lack of desire to learn. But I don't know how to learn this. They learned by doing, and making do with what resources they had. On the other hand, I have access to almost any books I want, access to the internet, and access to a more than capable computer and software. Should I learn more languages? Assembly? LISP? BASIC? Haskell? Should I dive straight into advanced topics like OpenGL? Or should I wait until I feel I've come closer to mastering the simpler things, like console programs, first? Should I follow tutorials? Should I follow books? Should I just dive into writing something and follow a reference manual as I go? What order should I do all this in? How should I do it? I want to completely master this; to be considered a genius. The most perfect career I can imagine is to start the next id. I have the drive to do it, I just don't know where to begin...

• How to draw an RGB pixel with bare hands ? (no extra document just a browser)

- by Rocket Surgeon
In the browser tools, say in debugging (any browser will do, but IE9 preferred) how can I access things like html5 canvas and modify individual pixels by typing commands from prompt ? I know, it is possible to accomplish in miriad normal ways with preparing the markup and loading the page, but what is the shortest path ? The browser is running with some content, then I hit F12-Console- what exactly should I type to cause a canvas to change ? Thank you

• Why does Ubuntu 12.04 dual boot fail?

- by Tranas
Fresh install of XP followed by a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 results in the following error: error: unknown filesystem. grub rescue and the machine will not boot. Prior to the 12.04 install, XP worked fine. During the 12.04 install, all partitions and free space was visible, and the install seemed to complete without issues until the error message. Although I can fix the MBR via recovery console in XP and allow the machine to boot to windows, why is GRUB/Ubuntu trashing the boot sequence?

• How to throw a SqlException(need for mocking)

- by chobo2
Hi I am trying to test some exceptions in my project and one of the Exceptions I catch is SQlException. Now It seems that you can't go new SqlException() so I am not sure how I can throw a exception especially without somehow calling the database(and since it is unit tests it is usually advised not to call the database since it is slow). So I am using nunit and moq so I am not sure how to fake this. Edit Based on the answers they seem to all be based on ado.net I am using linq to sql. So that stuff is like behind the scenes. Edit @ Matt Hamilton System.ArgumentException : Type to mock must be an interface or an abstract or non-sealed class. at Moq.Mock`1.CheckParameters() at Moq.Mock`1..ctor(MockBehavior behavior, Object[] args) at Moq.Mock`1..ctor(MockBehavior behavior) at Moq.Mock`1..ctor() Posts to the first line when it tries to mockup var ex = new Mock<System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException>(); ex.SetupGet(e => e.Message).Returns("Exception message");

• TeamCity - Build triggering on specific file, Mercurial

- by Garrett
Hi I'm trying to get my build to trigger only when i create a Tag in Mercurial. The way im trying to do this is by creating an additional Build Config (Tag Conf) for my project where I set the VCS build trigger to: +:/.hgtags --Trigger only when tags are updated -:. --Do not trigger on any other files Whenever i push a changeset (without a Tag) in the overview my build conf (Tag Conf) says "X Pending", i suspect this is the changesets. And when I create a Tag in Mercurial, a build i is triggered and the X Pending goes away. Then all there is left for me todo is to update build/rev numbers in AssemblyInfo (somehow) and deploy the Artifacts(somehow). Question: Is this the correct way to do this or are there another/better way to do this? (Im using sln2010 runner + NUnit + Mercurial) Kind Regards
