• PhpBB3: adding background to specific php generated text input without affecting the other text inputs

  I have created a custom PhpBB3 style and desperately since a few hours tried to add a background image to a specific comment text area. With firebug I checked if the comment text area had a class and it does, so I tried some css variations and finally tried: sn-inputComment { background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/pencil.png") repeat-x left top #FFFFFF;} { I also tried to find and manipulate the php generated text area but no success. Non of my methods worked. I will provide you all with a tinylink url to my forum with a test user and password access.   With regards to this thread, I've developed a partial solution: function strtosecs($time,$now=null){ static $LEAPDIFF=86400; $time=strtotime($time,$now); return $time-((date('Y',$time)-1968)/4*$LEAPDIFF); } The function is supposed to get the number of seconds given a string without checking leap-years. It does this calculating the number of leap-years 1970 [(year-1986)/4], multiplying it by the difference in seconds between a leap-year and a normal year (which in the end, it's just the number of seconds in a day). Finally, I simply remove all those excess leap-year seconds from the calculated time. Here's some examples of the inputs/outputs: // test code echo strtosecs('+20 years',0).'=>'.(strtosecs('+20 years',0)/31536000); echo strtosecs('+1 years',0).'=>'.(strtosecs('+1 years',0)/31536000); // test output 630676800 => 19.998630136986 31471200 => 0.99794520547945 You will probably ask why am I doing a division on the output? It's to test it out; 31536000 is the number of seconds in a year, so that 19.99... should be 20 and 0.99... should be a 1. Sure, I could round it all and get "correct" answer, but I'm worried about the inaccuracies.

  an ActiveX control generated by Visual Basic 6, very old stuff, it has a couple of methods and one event. now I have to use the control in C++, visual studio 2008, but I don't like to generate a form/dialog/window as constainer. I add some MFC class From ActiveX Control. Now the wrap class has all the methods defined in the ActiveX control. I definitely need add event handler to take care of the event fired by ActiveX control. With a form/dialgue/window, it could be done by below BEGIN_EVENTSINK_MAP ON_EVENT. My questions are 1. how to add the event handler without a form/dialgue/window. Is this impossible? 2. Could I manually add constructor in the ActiveX control wrap class, so I could use new operator to get an instance on the heap? Thanks Add the Event Sinks Map near the start of the definition (.cpp) file. The BEGIN_EVENTSINK_MAP macro takes the container's Class name, then the base class name as parameters. The container's class name is used again in the AFX_EVENTSINK_MAP macro and the ON_EVENT macro.

• Getting ellipses function parameters without an initial argument

  So I've been making a custom parser for a scripting language, and I wanted to be able to pass only ellipses arguments. I don't need or want an initial variable, however Microsoft and C seem to want something else. FYI, see bottom for info. I've looked at the va_* definitions #define _crt_va_start(ap,v) ( ap = (va_list)_ADDRESSOF(v) + _INTSIZEOF(v) ) #define _crt_va_arg(ap,t) ( *(t *)((ap += _INTSIZEOF(t)) - _INTSIZEOF(t)) ) #define _crt_va_end(ap) ( ap = (va_list)0 ) and the part I don't want is the v in va_start. As a little background I'm competent in goasm and I know how the stack works so I know what's happening here. I was wondering if there is a way to get the function stack base without having to use inline assembly. Ideas I've had: #define im_va_start(ap) (__asm { mov [ap], ebp }) and etc... but really I feel like that's messy and I'm doing it wrong. struct function_table { const char* fname; (void)(*fptr)(...); unsigned char maxArgs; }; function_table mytable[] = { { "MessageBox", &tMessageBoxA, 4 } }; ... some function that sorts through a const char* passed to it to find the matching function in mytable and calls tMessageBoxA with the params. • Removing dotted border without setting NoFocus in Windows PyQt

  There are a few questions on SO about this, all of which seem to say that the only way to remove the dotted border is to set the focusPolicy on widget/item in question to NoFocus. While this works as a temporary fix, this prevents further interaction with said widget/item in the realm of other necessary focusEvents. Said border in question: Here's an example of why this doesn't work. I have a Non-Modal widget popup, think a lightbox for an image. I want to detect a mousePressEvent outside of the widget and close the widget as a result. To do this, I should catch the focusOutEvent. However, if a vast majority of widgets in my program are set as NoFocus (to remove the border issue), then I cannot catch the focusOutEvent because, you guessed it, they have no focus policy. Here's another example: I have a QTreeWidget that is subclassed so I can catch keyPressEvents for various reasons. The QTreeWidget is also set as NoFocus to prevent the border. Because of this, however, the widget never has focus and therefore no keyPressEvents can be caught. A workaround for this (kludgy, imo) is to use the widget's grabKeyboard class, which is dangerous if I forget to releaseKeyboard later. This is not optimal. So then the question is, is there a way to remove this weird (mostly just ugly) dotted border without turning off focus for everything in my app? Thanks in advance!

• Refresh page in browser without resubmitting form

  I'm an ASP.NET developer, and I usually find myself leaving the webpage that I'm working on open in my browser (Chrome is my browser of choice, but this question is relevant for any browser). My workflow typically goes like this: I write code, I rebuild my project in Visual Studio, and then I flip back to my browser with Alt-Tab and hit F5 to refresh the page. This is fine and dandy if a form hasn't been submitted since the page was opened. But if I've been clicking around on ASP.NET form controls, the page has posted form data a number of times, so hitting F5 causes the browser to (sensibly) pop up a confirmation message, e.g., "Confirm Form Resubmission: The page that you're looking for used information that you entered...". Sometimes I do want to resubmit the form, but more often than not, I just want to start over with the page (rather than resubmit form data). The way I usually get around this is to simply add some query string data to the URL so that the browser sees it as a fresh page request, e.g.: page.aspx becomes page.aspx? (or vice-versa). My question is: Is there a better way to quickly request a fresh version of a webpage (and not submit form data) in any of the major browsers? It seems like a no-brainer to me for web development, but maybe I'm missing something. What I'd love to see is something like the last item in this list: F5: refresh page Ctrl-F5: refresh page (and force cache refresh) Alt-F5: request fresh copy of the page without resubmitting the form

• Redeploying an ASP.NET site in IIS7 without files in use interfering

  Hey, We've got a process currently which causes ASP.NET websites to be redeployed. The code is itself an ASP.NET application. The current method, which has worked for quite a while, is simply to loop over all the files in one folder and copy them over the top of the files in the webroot. The problem that's arisen is that occasionally files end up being in use and hence can't be copied over. This has in the past been intermittent to the point it didn't matter but on some of our higher traffic sites it happens the majority of the time now. I'm wondering if anyone has a workaround or alternative approach to this that I haven't thought of. Currently my ideas are: Simply retry each file until it works. That's going to cause errors for a short time though which isn't really that good. Deploy to a new folder and update IIS's webroot to the new folder. I'm not sure how to do this short of running the application as an administrator and running batch files, which is very untidy. Does anyone know what the best way to do this is, or if it's possible to do #2 without running the publishing application as a user who has admin access (Willing to grant it special privileges, but I'd prefer to stop short of administrator)?

  I feel like the answer to this question is really simple, but I really am having trouble finding it. So here goes: Suppose you have the following classes: class Base; class Child : public Base; class Displayer { public: Displayer(Base* element); Displayer(Child* element); } Additionally, I have a Base* object which might point to either an instance of the class Base or an instance of the class Child. Now I want to create a Displayer based on the element pointed to by object, however, I want to pick the right version of the constructor. As I currently have it, this would accomplish just that (I am being a bit fuzzy with my C++ here, but I think this the clearest way) object->createDisplayer(); virtual void Base::createDisplayer() { new Displayer(this); } virtual void Child::createDisplayer() { new Displayer(this); } This works, however, there is a problem with this: Base and Child are part of the application system, while Displayer is part of the GUI system. I want to build the GUI system independently of the Application system, so that it is easy to replace the GUI. This means that Base and Child should not know about Displayer. However, I do not know how I can achieve this without letting the Application classes know about the GUI. Am I missing something very obvious or am I trying something that is not possible?

  Hi, I would like to get text width of a string before an application starts. Everything works fine untill Application.MainForm canvas present. The problem is, when I try dynamicaly create TOrdinarium in the OnCreate event of the app. main form, "Canvas does not allow drawing" error occures. (Application.MainForm is nil....). I tried several ways to create Canvas dynamicaly (one of them is written below), but it can not measure text sizes without being attached to parented control. Is there way how to make it work somehow?   I'm trying to create something that looks like facebook's profile URL (http://facebook.com/username). So, at first I tried something like that: $router->addRoute( 'eventName', new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/:eventName', array( 'module' => 'default', 'controller' => 'event', 'action' => 'detail' ) ) ); I kept getting the following error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Controller_Router_Exception' with message 'eventName is not specified' in /var/desenvolvimento/padroes/zf/ZendFramework-1.12.0/library/Zend/Controller/Plugin/Broker.php on line 336 Not only I was unable to make that piece of code work, all my default routes were (obviously) overwritten. So I have, for example, stuff like "mydomain.com/admin", that was now returning the same error (as it fell in the same pattern as /:eventName). What I need to do is to create this custom route, without overwriting the default ones and actually working (dûh). I have already checked the online docs and a lot (A LOT) of stuff on google, but I didn't find anything related to the error I'm getting or how to not overwrite the default routes. I'd appreciate anything that could point me the right direction. Thanks.

• Sending Email to a specific address without requiring user to specify their mail server details

  Can anyone recommend a simple and reliable method of sending email notifications and possibly log files attachments from a C# program without requiring the installer or the user to configure the program by specifying server details and email addresses etc. (Mainly because they won't know the details, but also because they could change) The program will normally be run as a service of a Windows Server, but can be run on a client. I tried connecting to our own mail server and sending a email to myself, but some ISP's are blocking Port 25 on all servers but their own, so that method isn't working reliably. Tried sending email through gmail but that was less successful as the port they used was blocked by firewalls. Ditto webservices connecting on weird ports. Trying to use the local smptservice but did not work either. It would be nice, but not essential if it was not dependant on my own Internet connection/Servers. (Don't mind them being delayed, but prefer them not to get lost). Are there any webservices on http/https that allow you to do this sort of thing? TIA

• WCF - Return object without serializing?

  One of my WCF functions returns an object that has a member variable of a type from another library that is beyond my control. I cannot decorate that library's classes. In fact, I cannot even use DataContractSurrogate because the library's classes have private member variables that are essential to operation (i.e. if I return the object without those private member variables, the public properties throw exceptions). If I say that interoperability for this particular method is not needed (at least until the owners of this library can revise to make their objects serializable), is it possible for me to use WCF to return this object such that it can at least be consumed by a .NET client? How do I go about doing that? Update: I am adding pseudo code below... // My code, I have control [DataContract] public class MyObject { private TheirObject theirObject; [DataMember] public int SomeNumber { get { return theirObject.SomeNumber; } // public property exposed private set { } } } // Their code, I have no control public class TheirObject { private TheirOtherObject theirOtherObject; public int SomeNumber { get { return theirOtherObject.SomeOtherProperty; } set { // ... } } } I've tried adding DataMember to my instance of their object, making it public, using a DataContractSurrogate, and even manually streaming the object. In all cases, I get some error that eventually leads back to their object not being explicitly serializable.

• Looping through a method without for/foreach/while

  Is there a way of calling a method/lines of code multiple times not using a for/foreach/while loop? For example, if I were to use to for loop: int numberOfIterations = 6; for(int i = 0; i < numberOfIterations; i++) { DoSomething(); SomeProperty = true; } The lines of code I'm calling don't use 'i' and in my opinion the whole loop declaration hides what I'm trying to do. This is the same for a foreach. I was wondering if there's a looping statement I can use that looks something like: do(6) { DoSomething(); SomeProperty = true; } It's really clear that I just want to execute that code 6 times and there's no noise involving index instantiating and adding 1 to some arbitrary variable. As a learning exercise I have written a static class and method: Do.Multiple(int iterations, Action action) Which works but scores very highly on the pretentious scale and I'm sure my peers wouldn't approve. I'm probably just being picky and a for loop is certainly the most recognisable, but as a learning point I was just wondering if there (cleaner) alternatives. Thanks. • Instantiate a form, then find it later, without showing it initially

  I am having a problem that is strange to me but hopefully is not so strange to someone else. : ) Some background: I am working on a simple IM client that allows the user to broadcast messages to multiple recipients. The goal is to create a chat form for each of the recipients containing the text of the broadcast message, then show that form only if the recipient responds to the broadcast-er. However, when the application receives a response then attempts to locate the form for that particular chat session (using Application.OpenForms) it cannot find it UNLESS I .Show at the time it is created. I would like to avoid having to show this form when it is created because this means that the user will see a flash on the screen. The form doesn't seem to really be created until I show it, but it would seem there has to be a way to do this without showing first. Can anyone assist? I can provide code snippets if needed, I didn't in this post because this feels more like a conceptual misunderstanding on my part than a bug in the code. Thanks in advance!

  I am trying to create a type that refers to an array of a generic type, without specifying the generic type. That is, I would like to do the equivalent of Type.GetType("T[]"). I already know how to do this with a non-array type. E.g. Type.GetType("System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1") // or typeof(IEnumerable<>) Here's some sample code that reproduces the problem. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; public class Program { public static void SomeFunc<T>(IEnumerable<T> collection) { } public static void SomeArrayFunc<T>(T[] collection) { } static void Main(string[] args) { Action<Type> printType = t => Console.WriteLine(t != null ? t.ToString() : "(null)"); Action<string> printFirstParameterType = methodName => printType( typeof(Program).GetMethod(methodName).GetParameters()[0].ParameterType ); printFirstParameterType("SomeFunc"); printFirstParameterType("SomeArrayFunc"); var iEnumerableT = Type.GetType("System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1"); printType(iEnumerableT); var iEnumerableTFromTypeof = typeof(IEnumerable<>); printType(iEnumerableTFromTypeof); var arrayOfT = Type.GetType("T[]"); printType(arrayOfT); // Prints "(null)" // ... not even sure where to start for typeof(T[]) } } The output is: System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[T] T[] System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[T] System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[T] (null) I'd like to correct that last "(null)". This will be used to get an overload of a function via reflections by specifying the method signature: var someMethod = someType.GetMethod("MethodName", new[] { typeOfArrayOfT }); // ... call someMethod.MakeGenericMethod some time later I've already gotten my code mostly working by filtering the result of GetMethods(), so this is more of an exercise in knowledge and understanding.

• Display the value of a select list without a button

  How can I get the value to be displayed after the selection from the list is made, without the use of a button. I tried to implement an onChange event for the select list, and doing away with the button, but I can't get it to work. • How to get two TD cells side by side WITHOUT using css

  Hi, in the following HTML snippet, I would like the two cells be placed side by side with NO spaces between them; without using css if possible. • Using an iterator without its container

  I am mixing some C and C++ libraries and have only a single pointer available to do some work in a callback function. All I need to do is iterate through a vector. Here's a simplified, untested example: bool call_back(void* data){ done=... if (!done) cout << *data++ << endl; return done; } Note that this function is in an extern "C" block in C++. call_back will be called until true is returned. I want it to cout the next element each time it's called. data is a pointer to something that I can pass from elsewhere in the code (an iterator in the above example, but can be anything). Something from data will likely be used to calculate done. I see two obvious options to give to data: Have data point to my vector. Have data point to an iterator of my vector. I can't use an iterator without having the .end() method available, right? I can't use a vector alone (unless maybe I start removing its data). I could make a struct with both vector and iterator, but is there a better way? What would you do?
