• Looking for an easy way to get started with tesseract (wrapper, sample project or tutorial)

  I come from a web development background, and I am new to the world of OCR. After comparing a few OCR libraries, the one that yielded the best results was Tesseract. I would like to make an application that takes screenshots and perform OCR on those using Tesseract. Ideally, it would be in Java or C#, but I can also do it in C++ or Python if needed. What is the easiest way to get started with this library ? I am looking for a detailed tutorial or a sample project that uses tesseract.

• Log4j - Logging to multiple log files based on the project modules

  Consider this scenario: I have a project with two modules and one common module as below (the package structure): com.mysite.moduleone com.mysite.moduletwo com.mysite.commonmodule In the above, the commonmodule classes can be used by other two modules. The question: I need to configureLog4J such a way that the log messages from moduleone and moduletwo goes to different log file. I can always do this using using category. But the real problem is when I want to log the messages from the commonmodule also. So, when the commonmodule classes are called from moduleone the commonmodule log messages should go to the moduleone log file. If the commonmodule is accesse from moduletwo the commonmodule log messages should go to moduletwo log file. Is it possible to configure Log4J in this fashion? Any comments? PS: I think I made my question clear. If any confusion, leave a comment, wil try to clear it. :)

  Hi All I new to java so bare with me if this is a ridiculously simple question but I am curious about this method call which has {code} being taken in - see code below for an example in the method addSelectionListener. What is the purpose of this? • Project organization in perforce

  Hello. I created several web applications that use the same static files (css, js, images). When I use svn for version control, I use an external repository (svn: externals) to add files to the current project. For example: - Project_1 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) - Project_2 ---- Webapp -------- Static (external to static's repo) I could easily use it in their web pages by adding a link like /static/ ... But now our company has moved to perforce. How can I support the current structure? We also use maven, I think to pack these files as a jar and use as a dependency, but then my editor (idea) does not see that this dependence are js-scripts and styles. And i need to repackage and deploy jar file when create minor changes. How to use maven correctly?

  Hi all, I saw some questions raised about the folder structure of source codes, but I never see the question about folder structure of project documentation. I googled it and still do not see many articles talk about. For example, you might have directories for Feasibility, Business Analysis, Design etc. or whatever your phases are called. Organize by function so that the top directory level are functions. For example, Risks, Requirements, Scope, Change Control, Development. Most times a mix of both are used..." So any thought about it? I believe this is also an important issue!

  Test.java and SetWord.java belong to the package tools. Test.java needs to access SetWord but an odd error 'cannot find' SetWord appear. The package limits the visibility, it works without 'package tools;' lines. How can I acess the SetWords with Test in the same pkg? In general, how can classes access one another in the same pkg?   Hi everybody! I've been working with swing for the last 2 years, but i'm still not satisfy with my own work. The apps are "fast" enough, but the development isn't enough "clean". Can you recommend me any real world project, book, or something similar that shows me how a real world swing app work. May be a framework, something structured, etc. For example, i'm thinking i may code a "window manager" that has all the window of the app in an unified resource, may be cached, etc. I think all those good ideas must be implemented already. Do I simply need to burn the following installer files onto the CD and give it to someone? • simple modification results in error

  When I tried to do a simple modification of the "hello android" program that eclipse adt plugin generates I get error and can't get the program to run again even if I restore the file to its original contents. The modification was that I changed a string in strings.xml. the line was: <string name="app_name">Todo List</string> and the app was runnable, then I changed it to <string name="app_name">Todo List1</string> and it was an error: [2010-04-21 23:18:03 - Todo_list] Error in an XML file: aborting build. And a new empty file also showed up called: strings.out.xml And then I can't get the prrogram back into runnable state even if I delete the empyt file and restore the original line, I'm a confused beginner of java, android and eclipse.

• Structure of open source project's repository

When cloning the main repository one gets a complete build environment with all the libraries and all the tools needed to make an official installer file, with correct version numbers. I like the fact that anyone who wants to contribute can clone the repository and get started with anything they want. But I'm thinking this makes it to easy for Evil People to create malicious installers and release into the wild. How should it be structured? What do you recommend including in the repository, versus keeping on the build server only?

• Laying out JPanels to make a simple GUI

  Hello, first of all, this is more or less my first GUI and ive learned Java for not more then a week, so it might contain some serious programming errors. What i have right now is: Buttons and labels are part of OptionPanel and are on the left, DrawingPanel is about 5x5 px in size and is on the right. What I am trying to do is a simple test, to get me more familiar with the GUI. • Fast way to pass a simple java object from one thread to another

  I have a callback which receives an object. I make a copy of this object, and I must pass it on to another thread for further processing. It's very important for the callback to return as fast as possible. Ideally, the callback will write the copy to some sort of lock-free container. I only have the callback called from a single thread and one processing thread. I only need to pass a bunch of doubles to the other thread, and I know the maximum number of doubles (around 40). Any ideas? I'm not very familiar with Java, so I don't know the usual ways to pass stuff between threads.

  I have java.util.LinkedHashMap with Integer as Key and Character as Value. I know the key of the element i want to access. In addition to the element value for the key, i also want to retrieve the next 3 element values so that i can append all the 4 element values and form a string with 4 chars. I am asking for something like how we will do in a java.util.List. Is this feasible by any means in a Map/ordered map? Please suggest any other data structure that can help me achieve this. Those projects are about some scientific stuff, most (probably all) the code will be released under GPL after the publication of some results and we don't want to spend money for this. My first question is: should i keep my local SVN server or you know some good service for this? Getting answers to questions has become something of a problem and I'm curious to know what people recommend. • Need help on how to setup package structure and project

  I am new to Java and am making a license generator. This is my current setup. com.example.licensegenerator.client (used by the client application) :LicenseLoader (no Main method) :LicenseDownloader (no Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.keys (used by the server) :ProductKeyGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.license (used on the server also) :LicenseGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.lib (Shared classes between client and server) :Contants (no main) Now I have a few questions. Is it OK to have multiple Main() methods in a single project? Will I be able to compile them to different .jar files? (In this case I need two different jars for the server) Is there a better way to setup the packages? And a totally unrelated question, with exceptions, is it better to handle them right then and there or throw them and let the main method catch them all (the program cannot recover if an error occurs)

  I have 2 projects linked and these 2 projects each have a package under them. XProject - XPackage - XClass - X1Method(); X2Method(); YProject - YPackage - YClass - Y1Method(); I'm trying to call X1 and X2 methods from Y1 Method. I can call X1 Method but when I call X2 method I get a runtime error (java.lang.NoSuchMethodError:) All methods are public and there is nothing wrong with method names. It is just nonsense to have one of them working while other is giving runtime errors. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I need to generate following reports Schedule Variance Effort Variance Rework Percentage Wasted Efforts For rework percentage, I am using condition like the task.Start date should be greater than or equal to the start date and task.Finish date should be less than or equal to finish date. but I am concerned about the tasks those are starting before the start date and ending before the end date. In such situation I only need the rework % for the number of hrs spent during start and end and not for the hrs spent before start date. Same thing applies to the task which are starting before end date but ending after end date. Any pointer would be great help. Thanks
