  • Existing open source software for wireless mesh networking?

    Hello! My goal: Build a wireless mesh network with some ALIX 2D2 (500 MHz AMD Geode LX800 x86 CPU, 256MB RAM, Atheros wireless card) Aside from working like a normal wireless mesh network users should be able to read/write data from/to the ALIX Boxes and the ALIX boxes should be able to process data. Questions: Should I try to flash dd-wrt x86, voyage linux (linux.voyage.hk) or something else? What (open source) software should I look into before I start? Should I use a 'server' for data storage and processing instead of the ALIX boxes? Is it even possible to use the ALIX boxes for routing AND data storage and processing? Final notes: Data can be anything, for example, I want to setup a wireless mesh using the OLSRD protocol so my whole town gets wifi and can access songs on the network. It's not for that, but that's the idea. I'm not afraid of programing, compiling or working with *nix. This is mostly 'for fun' rather than for practicality. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

  • 0x0000007b WinXP in VirtualBox with no Admin access on source drive

    I have a physical drive with an installation of WinXP-32 which I have made a clone of using SysInternals disk2vhd. I have no admin rights on this installation. I have tried to boot this VHD in VirtualBox, however it blue screens on 0x0000007b. I have researched this and apparently the cause is that Windows doesn't like the IDE controller changing. I have tried all the available controllers in VirtualBox, but they all produce the same result. There is a Microsoft KB article which describes a method involving loading a .reg file and extracting some sys files from a CAB. This method apparently works well for many people with this problem, however it will not work for me as I don't have admin rights on the WinXP installation. Is there anything I can do in this case? Is there any way of loading the .reg file outside the OS? or perhaps doing a repair using the WinXP CD? Even though I have no admin rights on the source drive installation of Windows, I do obviously have full access to the file system directly on the drive and also in the VHD itself.

  • Change the default route without affecting existing TCP connections

    Let's say I have two public network addresses on my server: one NAT through an ISP (192.168.99.0/24), and a VPN through a different ISP (192.168.1.0/24), already configured with a per-host route to the VPN server through my ISP. Here is my initial routing table. I am currently routing through my ISP on subnet 192.168.99.0/24. $ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.99.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth1 55.66.77.88 192.168.99.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 eth1 192.168.99.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth1 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tap0 Now, I want new TCP connections to switch to my 192.168.1.0/24 so I type the following: $ route add -net 0.0.0.0 gw 192.168.1.1 dev tap0 When I do this, it causes some long-standing TCP connections to hang. Is there a way to I safely change the default interface for new connections, while allowing existing TCP connections to use the old route (i.e. do I need enable some sort of stateful routing table)? I am okay with a solution that only works with established TCP connections, and I don't care how hacky it is. For example, if there is a way to add temporary iptables rules for existing connections to force them over the old route. But there has to be some way to do this. EDIT: Just a note about a simple "route add -host ... " for existing connections: this solution would work if I am fine with leaving a subset of IPs on the old interface. However, in my application, this actually doesn't solve my problem because I want to allow new connections to come on the new interface even if they have the same source IP. I'm now looking at using the "ip route" command to set source-based routing rules.

  • Open Source Chef Server can't upload cookbook

    I just setup the open source chef server on an Ubuntu 12.04 EC2 instance, I've setup my webui and am able to get responses from my knife commands ie: knife node list, knife client list, knife user list, etc... I'm able to update roles, databags, environments, etc... but I cannot upload any cookbooks. I'm running my workstation on Mac OSX. I keep getting this output at the end of my command knife cookbook upload -VV curl.   • Compiled git from source, cannot access subversion repositories using git-svn

    I'm setting up a CentOS dev box, and need git. At first I tried to install git using yum, but I could not connect to a yum repository that had git. Next I downloaded the git source (version 1.7.1) and compiled it. When I run the following command git svn clone svn+ssh://... I get the following error.   • Exchange migration: ExchangeTransport warnings after uninstalling source server

    After disabling/uninstalling Exchange from our source SBS2003 server, I'm getting these warnings: Event 5020 "The topology doesn't contain a route to Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003 sourceserver.domain.local in Routing Group [...]" Event 5006 "Cannot find route to Mailbox Server CN=SOURCESERVER [...] for store CN=[...]", for Public folder, First storage group and Recovery storage group. I followed the technet article here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288905.aspx (linked from the SBS 2003 - 2011 migration guide). When uninstalling Exchange, I got a warning about NNTP not being found in the registry, but that didn't seem relevant, and the uninstall continued. The server was subsequently removed from the domain and shut down, as per the instructions. If I open the Public Folder Management console on the Exchange 2010 server, the public folders \NON_IPM_SUBTREE\EFORMS_REGISTRY and \Archived mails gives an error on "Update content". I haven't found anything else which indicates something is wrong. We never really used the public folders on the old server, so there isn't really anything lost. Can I just remove these folders and let them be created anew?

  • Adding a prefix or postfix to a Word 2013 quotation source

    I am using the German version of Word 2013, so I am not absolutely sure, if "quotation source" is the term being used in the English version. I am talking about the automatic text field, one can get via "References" (German: "Verweise"), "Insert quotation" (German: "Zitat einfügen"). Then one gets a drop down menu with all the entries from the biobliography, one can pick one and then an automatic text field is inserted into the text. After it is hopefully clear what I am talking about, here is the question: I choosed the citation style "ISO 690" that generates labels of the pattern "(author+year)" in round parentheses. Sometimes I have to append a prefix or postfix to the label, but this prefix/postfix must go into the parantheses. Is there any way how I can do this? For example, I can add page numbers to the end of a quotation label via a special dialog box that appears after a right click onto the text field and choosing "Edit quote" (German: "Zitat bearbeiten"). But there are a lot more cases of optional pre-/postfixes than page numbers. I am looking for a way to add general pre-/postfixes.

  • Apache downloads php files instead of running their source

    I have just recently upgraded PHP 5.3 to 5.4 on my Debian Squeeze server. Now, instead of executing PHP files, Apache just downloads them, which is really bad. When I try to follow these steps, I get "broken packages" upon installing the libapache2-mod-php5 package. Also the answer tells me to add something to my httpd.conf, but it's empty. Browsing the UIWebView header and documentation, there seems to be no way of accessing the current loaded NSData of the source. Am I missing something ?

    In my application, I want to stream videos shot on an iPhone, *.movie files, from a server running on a Mac desktop to an iPhone or iPad client. What are some possible open source servers that do this that are small enough to be shipped or embedded with a downloadable Mac app? There is a product StreamToMe by Matt Gallagher that does this. I noticed a lot of open source alternatives like ffmpeg, VideoLan, and the like but I not sure which one would be good for the Mac.

  • Tomcat JNDI Connection Pool docs - Random Connection Closed Exceptions

    I found this in the Tomcat documentation here What I don't understand is why they close all the JDBC objects twice - once in the try{} block and once in the finally{} block. Why not just close them once in the finally{} clause? This is the relevant docs: Random Connection Closed Exceptions These can occur when one request gets a db connection from the connection pool and closes it twice. When using a connection pool, closing the connection just returns it to the pool for reuse by another request, it doesn't close the connection. And Tomcat uses multiple threads to handle concurrent requests. Here is an example of the sequence of events which could cause this error in Tomcat: Request 1 running in Thread 1 gets a db connection. Request 1 closes the db connection. The JVM switches the running thread to Thread 2 Request 2 running in Thread 2 gets a db connection (the same db connection just closed by Request 1). The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 1 Request 1 closes the db connection a second time in a finally block. The JVM switches the running thread back to Thread 2 Request 2 Thread 2 tries to use the db connection but fails because Request 1 closed it.   • Multiple views and source list in a Core Data app

    I'm working on my first major Cocoa app for an undergraduate research project. The application is document-based and uses Core Data. One of the entities is an abstract entity, Page. Page is parent of several types of pages: ie PageWithHeaderAndFooter, PageWithTwoColumns, BasicPage etc. Page has attributes, such as title and author, that all pages have in common. Each specific type of page has a certain number of layout blocks (PageWithHeaderAndFooter has three: header, footer, body. BasicPage has one: body. etc.) Additionally, all Page subclasses define layout-specific implementations of certain methods. The other relevant entity is Style, which defines the visual look of a Page. (Think of Pages as HTML and Style as CSS.) I would like my app to have an iTunes/Mail-like source list with sections. (One section would be Pages, the other would be Styles.) I have a pretty good idea how to do the sectioned source list (this was a great help). However, after hours of headbanging and fruitless googling, here's what I can't figure out: Pages and Styles listed in the source list, and when you select one of them, all of the relevant fields for that object appear at the right (mostly NSTextViews, pop up menus, etc). I laid that out and did all of the bindings in Interface Builder. The problem is, if my source list contains different types of pages, how do I get a different view to display at the right depending on the type of page selected? For example, if a BasicPage is selected, I want just what you see above: the general page stuff and one NSTextView that corresponds to the one field body of BasicPage. But if I select a PageWithHeaderAndFooter, I want to display the general page stuff plus three NSTextViews (one for header, body, and footer.) If I have a Style selected, I want to display various pop up menus, color wells, etc. For the pages at least, we're only talking about one or more NSTextViews, each of which corresponds to a String attribute of the respective entity. How would you do this? Thank you for your help!
